What Is A Lesson Learned From Esperanza Rising

Examples Of Rhetorical Devices In A Modest Proposal
USE OF SATIRICAL STRATEGIES IN A MODEST PROPOSAL BY JONOTHAN SWIFT
In his modest proposal, Jonathan Swift uses logical fallacies, repetition, metaphors, humor,
parallelism, sarcasm and satire. The devices are effectively used to examine the attitude of the
rich people towards the poor in the society. Jonathan starts by mocking the mothers for strolling
in the streets begging for alms instead of looking for jobs and putting something on the tables
for children to eat. Jonathan predicts that when the kids grow, they might turn out to be thieves
as nobody taught these kids to earn an honest living. He uses logical fallacies to try and make
the proposal modest though his line of thinking is not correct. He points out that a year old child
is nourishing and wholesome food. That a healthy child is delicious food to be prepared using
any method of food preparation is outrageous. He proposes that 20,000 children preserved for
bleeding purposes. This is dehumanizing children and comparing them to animals. He outlines
how slaughterhouses should be build and butchers be employed to do the slaughtering of children.
In his exaggeration, he goes to the point of saying that the kids will be roasted like pigs. ( ) Swift
also uses irony when he says that there are about 200,000 couples whose wives are just breeders.
( ) He proposes that an arrangement is made to the rear and provide for these children. Here he
compares women to animals because human beings are not bred for commercial purposes. Here he
dehumanizes human beings by use of satire. He gives reasons as to why this is a good idea. First,
he says that the method will decrease the number of useless Catholics in Ireland. Secondly, he
claims that the government will earn from exports of the meat from Ireland. The mothers will
also earn something from this breeding and a burden will be lifted off their shoulders. He also
foresees that the new delicacy will be welcomed in the taverns. The marriage institution will also
be enhanced because mothers will put in more effort in raising the best kids because they would
fetch good prices in the markets. To support his argument, Swift is sarcastic that some parts of
children s body are good for eating. He further notes that these

Shakespeare s Measure For Measure
A commonly shared, almost universal moral is that one should learn to forgive any transgressors
and forget the transgressions which they have committed. In this example, forgiveness can be
awarded by any given body, whether it be an individual or an institution, to any guilty party.
According to philosopher Jacques Derrida, however, this definition is much too far reaching and
allows for a misuse of the word forgivenessand of the concept of forgiveness itself. Derrida argues
that forgiveness is paradoxical and unconditional, and that the unconditionality of forgiveness
should not be confused with the sovereigntyof governmental law, or it will cause the governmental
structure to lose not only its credibility, but offend those who... Show more content on

It is the punishment for something deemed unforgivable. However, Derrida says that it is
precisely this unforgivable thing which is the only thing that can truly be forgiven (Derrida 32).
Forgiveness must be an exchange between a singular victim and a singular guilty person
(Derrida 42), forgiving a mortal sin or unforgivable transgression (Derrida 32), and must remain
outside of any third party (including language, political structure, or any judicial law) (Derrida
42). This unforgivable transgression is often committed by a party which shows no remorse
(Derrida 38). If it sounds contradictory, it is because it is so, and Derrida acknowledges this fact.
He says that in order to achieve true forgiveness, one needs to believe in the impossible, and it
should be extraordinary, interrupting the ordinary course of historical temporality (Derrida 32).
Derrida also claims that modern government has never really been able to achieve this aim.
However, Derrida also states that government has never stopped trying to incorporate forgiveness
into their structures, and that to do so is impossible. The very nature of forgiveness, he says, must
eliminate any third party. He argues that when a government as a structure aims to forgive a guilty
person for doing something to an individual, they do a disservice to the individual by speaking for
them, acting as that third party. This can be seen in cases of murder, for example, when the victim

Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production
Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and
economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water
deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the
thirties depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the
wells may have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes.
The best way to combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps
such as a low dose hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by
hydrate. Corrosion inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may
have occurred due to water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes.
Asphaltenes can be treated by using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving
industry, flow assurance for deep water production is becoming increasingly more important. Flow
assurance is made successful by flowing the strategy, PI3, Proficiency, Integration, Implementation,
and Improvement. Without flow assurance, deep water wells would not be able to produce oil.

Suicide In Me Before You, By Jojo Moyes
People all have their own opinions about suicide and reasons to commit it, but could an author
create a story to convince readers that suicide is okay? In the book Me Before You, Jojo Moyes
has two main characters who have different opinions about this topic. Will Traynor wants to
commit suicide and Louisa Clark is trying to prevent him from doing so. This created a lot of
controversy in the book itself from both sides of the argument. People should have the right to
commit suicidewhen disabled disadvantaged mentally or physically. In the book Me Before You,
Jojo Moyes emphasizes the importance of having euthanasia as an option for ending your life when
disabled.
Moyes argues that disabled people cannot live life happily after having great experiences while
active. She has Will, the quadriplegic man, living a depressing life ever since his accident. He
spends his days waiting for his last day to arrive, and sadly, he wants it to occur soon. He has
nothing to look forward for in his life. Lou s attempts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the only way he would be happy. QUOTE As hard as Lou tried to convince Will to stay alive, she

incoming actions, changed her mind after realizing why he wanted to die. Persuasion could not

Origin Of Runes Research Paper
Myth attributes the origins of runes to the Norse god Odin. Legend describes how Odin hung
himself from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, speared himself, and for nine days and nights, Odin
travelled to and from the edge of death; a painful, mystical journey of self sacrifice and self
awareness on which he discovered the runes. Odinthen taught the goddess Freya, the wisdom of the
runes, who later passed on the knowledge of rune symbolism to Heimdall, god of the Rainbow
Bridge, attributed with teaching runic characters and mystical lore to humanity.
Runic inscriptions have been found on weaponry, boulders, manuscripts, jewellery, and other
personal objects. Runes were in common use up until the Middle Ages, with runic carvings found
as far north as Iceland, and as far south as England, where runes were used by wise counsellors and
Anglo Saxon high chieftains. Although runes were used by the Vikings, earliest runic inscriptions
predate the Viking tribes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some believe runes originated from either Latin, Turkish, or Etruscan languages. Other rune
enthusiasts have theorized that runes were developed from Old Italic, or Greek, however, this
seems highly unlikely for two main reasons. Firstly, Old Italic evolved from Etruscan, an ancient
Greek alphabet which evolved from the Semitic alphabet, disseminated by the Phoenicians. The
Semitic alphabet, Old Italic, and Greek alphabets, commence with the characters, Alpha and Beta.
These two letters are distinctly absent from all early runic inscriptions. Secondly, the oldest rune
engravings display runes that were written, and read, sometimes left to right, other times right to
left, and in some instances, both right to left and left to right in the same inscription. It was not
until the runic alphabet converged with Roman imperialism, that runes were predominantly written
and read, left to

The chamber plans to set up a new program next year to provide technical assistance to help the
growth of their members.
The capacity building program will create a hands on training for the first three quarters to one
year and then the members will receive follow up assistance later on. The program will only be
limited to five members to make the training more efficient, manageable, and cost effective.
Some of the other problems African American businesses face is the lack of investment from the
community who do not patronize their products and services. Another challenge for the business
community in Milwaukee is that the people are too conservative. The city needs to evolve as the
country s next go to city while the city is developing its infrastructure.
The chamber is also thinking of ways on how to elevate and promote the black businesses in
Milwaukee and expand it to neighboring cities. This will help grow the business and clientele of
African American companies.

Inadequate Support From The Government During The 1920 s
After the end of World War 1, the US economy entered into a new period in which progressive
refunds of the 1910 s ended. Until Warren G Harding s appointment in 1920 as president, the
economy experienced an economic boom. Inadequate attention to the unions and social problems
led to regulated business. The year of 1910 was a period of trust busting and 1920 concluded it
which went back to the time of non government intervention. Immigrants were disturbed with
certain issues like persecution and other economic problems. Inadequate support from the
government after World War 1 made minorities to suffer. Mellon was appointed by Warren G

from 6.4 million in 1920 to 3.3 billion in 1922.America s debt in 1920 was 24billion; it later
dropped to 18 billion in 1929. Mellon succeeded when he dealt with the post war depression. At the
time of the war, he declined taxes, more money for investment in business that created jobs. The
income increased and many citizens into the business line. Knowing the consequences of revenue

Environmental Consequences Of The Green Economy
Environmental assets are subject to over consumption and exploitation, resulting in environmental
damage because of the absence of an economic value associated with them (Wood, 2011). Since
these environmental assets or ecosystem services are not owned, or lack price tags, there is no
economic incentive to protect them. This brings forth an important dichotomy between the
environment and the economy. The economic and environmental challenges we face today are of
great concern for subsequent generations and unless urgent action is initiated, the consequences
could unfold with the daunting prospect of a long and deep recession with increasing
unemployment rates and decreasing output and an even greater ecological catastrophe (Wilson,
2013; Wood, 2011). The green economy poses a solution that tackles both these challenges together
by safeguarding environmental protection through the creation of markets for ecosystem services
which, in turn, can benefit the economy. This paper will discuss some of the benefits and
problems arising from the idea of a green economy and look at the example of the carbon market to
assess whether it achieves meaningful environmental protection or is just another ploy that fails to
achieve real solutions that protect the environment or reduce the effects of climate change. 2.What
is the Green Economy ? Canada s future economy will be a green economy. But getting there will

Human And Human Violence
Violence has been prevalent throughout our history as a species. But what is violence exactly?
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines violence as the use of physical force as to injure, abuse,
damage, or destroy. Some well known examples of violence include World War 2, the Holocaust,
and slavery. This begs the question are humans inherently violent? Naturally, such a controversial
topic would have distinctive perspectives. For instance, there are individuals who believe that
humanbeings are a product of their environment as opposed to people with the notion that Homo
sapiens are genetically more violencethan other mammals. Personally, I support the latter theory
about humans being characteristically more brutal than any other animal species since there has
been research to defend these claims made by these researchers in recent years. Additionally,
there is evidence to support the reality that our violent nature can be attributed to specific genes
found within our genetic code. Another argument to be made about violence is the
environmental atmosphere you have been raised in. For instance, a person raised in a war torn
nation like Syria will have a different viewpoint on violence than someone who has been
fortunate enough to be brought up in a more privileged country like Canada which is considered
one of the best countries to live in. Moreover, our high percentage of violence as a species is
directly correlated to our evolutionary path that allowed us to develop into

Comparison Of Misogyny In The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow By...
In three stories written by, Washington Irving, they all portray him into a man of misogyny. In
the story, The Devil and Tom Walker , disappearing never to return a man s wife takes all their

wanders off into the woods, vanishing for twenty years. In the story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,
a man that goes by the name Broom Bones, brainwashed by womanly charm receives a rude
awakening when the womans he cherishes picks a different man. Repeatedly, Washington Irving
conceived as a woman hater; this may or may not be true. In the story, The Devil and Tom Walker ,
a man s wife takes all their belongings of worthiness, disappearing never to return. More into the
story, the man, Tom Walker, meet the devil, and the evil spirit wanted him to sell his soul. Without
a doubt, Tom would have made lots of money. Consequently, this offer went through his head as he
went back to his house. Once home, he told his wife about the encounter, she wanted him to take

Impacting Global Health
Global health has always been an issue. There are always disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and
countries who do not have access to the resources they need. For years, people have been working
to get urgent medical care to people who need it most, and also to educate them about basic health
and hygiene. There have been many organizations and partnerships who have contributed to the
advancement of global health, but the one that stands out the most is the World Health Organization.
The World Health Organization has impacted global health by who they are and what they do,
what emergencies they have dealt with, and the research they have done. The World Health
Organization was founded on April 7, 1948 in Geneva, Switzerland ( World Health Organization,
World Health Organization). They are part of the United Nations and about 193 nations are
members ( World Health Organization, Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). They employ more
than seven thousand people with one hundred fifty offices across one hundred fifty countries (
World Health Organization, World Health Organization). These people are anything from doctors,
to economists, to administrators. The WHO s primary goal is to promote the achievement of the
highest possible level of health (Rogers). The WHO defines health as the state of complete

Compare And Contrast West Side Story And West Side Story
West Side Story is the iconic American musical that is a 1957 Broadway production
choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Arthur Laurents is the author of the original book with the
setting taking place in the upper west side New York city in a blue collar neighborhood during
the mid 1950s. (The Broadway) Because West Side Story is a movie musical, it will be a lot of
narrative conveyed through the song. The movie West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet have
many similarities and differences consider their plot, their character and their setting. The major
plot of the musical is about a rivalry between two different ethnic group gangs, the Sharks and Jets.
The Sharks are Puerto Rican and the Jets are white. Leonard Bernstein composed the dynamic and
influential music. In the mix of the conflict between the two gangs, a former member of the Jets,
Tony, falls in love with the leader of the Sharks sister, Maria. Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
clearly influenced this movie, and there are parallel characteristics. For instance, Romeo and Tony,
Juliet and Maria, Mercutio and Riff, Tybalt and Bernardo all have similar characteristics. As for the
specific film, I decided to watch the 1961 version.
2. Film Response
In the opening scene with the jets, the orchestral background music painted the picture of the jets
being spontaneous and unpredictable. The music especially designed their personalities well with
the random loud burst of accented notes from the brass. The mood definitely changes

The Importance Of Social Class In America
Social class largely affects the ways of life of all Americans These divisions of social class are
characterized by viewpoints, for example, lifestyle and income but education is a huge part of
deciding one s social class. That does not imply that it will decide a person s achievements but
with many individuals with higher education normally have better jobs with benefits and higher
wages too. Those of the privileged have higher education rather than those of middle and lower
class. Around 14% of mortgage holders are either behind on their home payments or are putting
up for foreclosure. The economic crash and foreclosure crisis that occurred in 2008 was not made
by one issue but rather a blend of issues. People obtained more than they could bear the cost of
however they were permitted, and now and again empowered, to do this by bankers which
institutions that should be helping the people to finance. The conviction that material belonging
enhances people s lives and social prosperity pervades in America. As opposed to this belief
different studies demonstrate that materialists contrasted with non materialists have individual and
social prosperity. Compulsive and impulsive shopping, debt, diminished savings overall decrease
the well being of people and other undesirable results have all been connected with materialistic
behavior. American materialism has found its ways to millions in America. Success is measured in
the materials and the social classa person is in. This does

was between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights.
Before Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government
structure based on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa
period there was a separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the
samurai, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the
samurai and the peasants. The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example
and the peasants came in second into the social class since they produced food which was
essential to survival of the people. The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the
merchants were last in the social class some were very wealthy and even owned their own
monopolies, but since they were in the bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher
into power. Although Japan was a feudal government and was more traditional the Japanese still
developed some modernized urban influences like expanding their trading of commodities, and
their advancement in their science studies. Though the Japanese had some of these modernized
views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to the lack of government control by the
shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. The differences between

Similarities Between Spanish And English Colonial Societies
While there were a few similarities between the Spanish and English colonial societies due to alike
geography and and political structure, there were many differences that played into the different
development of the two societies, including differences in religion, economy, relations with the
natives, and governing styles.
The English colonies were established by royal charter and started in Virginia and Massachusetts,
but then later continued to spread along the coast. The English were accustomed to a Parliament
and a limited monarchy, and used this to provide the basis for their government in the colonies. The
Spanish, however, sent royal conquests to the Americas in order to settle colonies and expand the
Spanish empire. These colonies

Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen Essay
Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen High school history textbooks are seen, by students,
as presenting the last word on American History. Rarely, if ever, do they question what their text
tells them about our collective past. According to James W. Loewen s Lies My Teacher Told Me,
they should be. Loewen has spent considerable time and effort reviewing history texts that were
written for high school students. In Lies, he has reviewed twenty texts and has compared them to
the actual history. Sadly, not one text measures up to the author s expectation of teaching students
to think. What is worse, though, is that students come away from their classes without having
developed the ability to think coherently about social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Loewen they got his name right, and not much else. Lies points out that there were
many groups of explorers that had discovered America before Columbus. He probably used
some of their information as a basis for his plans to sail west. A full eight pages are devoted to
other possible explorers. These groups include ancient groups from Indonesia, Japan, China, and
Phoenicia. More recent groups include the Vikings, British Islanders, West Africans, and
Portuguese fishermen. There are varying levels of evidence connecting these groups to pre
Columbian America, but still enough to throw doubt into the mix. Columbus got the credit
because of the way in which Europe responded to his discovery. Other false ideas taught about
Columbus deal with what is left out. His original motivation may have been to find another trade
route to the Orient, but his real motivation, in subsequent expeditions to America, was money. By
1493 Columbus had planned to plunder Haiti, according to Michele de Cuneo, who had been on
Columbus s first voyage. Columbus, himself, said to Ferdinand and Isabella that his motivation
was gold, and gold constitutes treasure; and he who has it does all he wants in the world, and can
even lift souls up to Paradise (Lies p34). Another side of Columbus

The Male And Female Gender Through Life Experiences
Matthew Drozd
How Do We Know What Gender We Are? Virginia Woolf s novel, Orlando, and Thomas Page
McBee s memoir, Man Alive, aim to define the male and female gender through life experiences.
Virginia Woolf uses the eponymous protagonist, Orlando, to define the freedom that men have
within society while women face many societal restrictions. Within Man Alive, Thomas, a
transgendered man, experiences similar freedoms and restrictions that Orlando experiences through
his experiences within society. Man Alive is the journey of Thomas Page McBee s transition from
woman to man; it focuses not on his physical change but on his mental change. Orlando was
placed in a predicament that allowed him to experience life both as man and woman. The first
thirty years of Orlando s life was spent as a man then he was permanently transformed into a
woman. Almost parallel to Orlando s transition experience, Thomas was also in a predicament
that allowed him to experience life as a man and woman. Thomas, born Page, goes through a
transition to become male. Orlando and Thomas both aimed at trying to figure out who they were
in society; Thomas was trying to find what kind of man he wanted to become and Orlando was
trying to find what kind of woman she was becoming. For example, if female Orlando was
promiscuous, she would be heavily criticized by her community while male Orlando received no
censure. Man Alive focused, not on the criticism that Thomas received but, on the characteristics of

Polycystic Kidney Disease
Introduction: Polycystic kidney disease is a genetic disorder, which means that it is inherited from
the parent and passed on to further generations. It causes uncontrollable cyst growth within the
kidneys, that eventually can lead to kidney failure and the need of a kidney transplant. Five percent
of kidneyfailure is due to this disease alone, (PKD Foundation). Not only can it affect the kidney,
but many other organs, and cause a lot of painful symptoms, which will be discussed later in the
paper. There are two types of polycystic kidney disease(PKD), one is called Autosomal Dominant
Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD), and the other is called Autosomal Recessive Polycystic

Make and Receive Telephone Calls
Make and Receive Telephone Calls
This unit is about making and receiving telephone calls and transferring calls, when necessary, in a
business environment.
1 Understand how to make telephone calls.
1.1Describe the different features of telephone systems and how to use them.
Telephone systems have many different features this allows us to handle and manage calls in a
professional manner.
Call holding places a caller on hold so you can perform another task. This could be to locate
paperwork, find client/customer details, retrieve information from another member of staff or
contact another colleague to divert the call along to.
Call waiting lets you know when there is a caller waiting on another line and wishes to speak to you.

Whenever you make a call you are your companies representative so it is always important to be
as polite and as helpful as possible as this may in turn create more custom for your business.
1.6Explain the purpose of summarising the outcomes of a telephone conversation before ending the
call.
Summarising is important so both parties involved are sure of the information that has been
exchanged, it also ensures all questions are answered fully. For example during a long conversation
about several different products your company produces you say ВЈ5 per unit but the caller thinks
you said 5 units per ВЈ so summarising will prevent misunderstanding and incorrect information
being relayed in a different company. Also if the conversation was long some finer details may
have been missed simply due to the large amount of information discussed. Some companies have a
policy were a courtesy email is sent to the caller in which all the information from the call has been
summarised and additional information can be added.
1.7Describe how to identify problems and who to refer them to.
When a call comes into the office always take a name (full if possible and preferably) and the
company they are calling from, try and obtain from the caller either what the problem is exactly or
from which department the problem arisen from and if they know who within the department they
spoke to. Pass message along to department or relevant staff and see what information can be found

Arguments Against Humanitarian Intervention
Humanitarian intervention is a doctrine that advocates the opportunity to send humanitarian relief
and international armed forces to help the victims of natural disasters or violations of human rights
without the consent of the State concerned. The objective is to rescue, assist, assist and protect
people in danger. This idea has appeared on the occasion of the Biafran War (1967 1970) which
resulted in a terrible famine, but had been ignored by other States in the name of neutrality and non
interference. The term humanitarian intervention was invented in the late 1980s by Bernard
Kouchner, founder of Doctors Without Borders and politician, and Mario Bettati, Professor of
Public International Law. According to them, some emergencies can morally justify a duty to
intervene in the affairs of a state, thus calling into question the principle of sovereignty.... Show

rights and that if it is framed by a supranational organization, essentially the United Nations

right of intervention in humanitarian terms when there is already a binding law (Geneva
Conventions, the Convention against Genocide) and the UN Charter, in Chapter VII, allows
intervention in the internal affairs of a State in the case of threat against peace. Among the other
issues raised, there those actors interference (NGOs, international and intergovernmental

Dog Park Analysis
I diasgree with the first passage because off leash dogs could possibly attack other dogs or people.
I also disagree because if the dog park was built in a residential area it would make living in that
area unpleasent. Finally i disagree because building a dog park in an area where it is not needed it a
waste of time, money and resources
I disagree with the person from the first passage because if a dog is off its leash it could attack other
animals and people. For example, in the second passage it states that if a dog is off its leash and
attacks another dog or person the victim can rightfully sue bothe the dog s owner and the city.
So if a person or animal were to be attacked by a dog at a dog park it could end in a very big lawsuit
that could possibly lead to the park being shut down which would ve made all the effort and money
they put into it goto waste.
Another reason i disagree with the person in the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the second passage it is stated the just the fencing for a dog park alone cost $70,000
that s a lot of money just for a place for dogs to run around. It would also be a waste of time,
instead of building a dog park they could be building something useful like a library but instead
they have to waste time building a place for dogs to exercise. Finally, it s a massive waste of
resources. For example, people can just take their dogs on walks or runs but now the city has to
waste valuable resources just because a couple of dog owners don t think their dog is getting
enough exercise.
In conclusion, I disagree with the person from the first passage because building a dog park could
allow off leash dogs to attack other animals or people. I also think that building a dog park would
be a burden for who evers live nect to it. Finally I think that building a dog park would be a massive

The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate the importance of the customer and anticipating their
needs in this complex corporate world. This essay tries to demonstrate the author s understanding

The Junction
Introduction
The area I have chosen for this report is the center section of The Junction . The Junction is
located on Dundas St. W between Runnymede Road and Keele Street, but for this report, I will be
focusing on the section between St. John s Place and Pacific Avenue. The Junction dates back to
the 19th century and is known for its railway tracks. It has been its own independent village until it
joined the City of Torontoin 1909 [1]. Today, the Junction still has a charming historical aura with
many of its original historic buildings while it continues to develop as a thriving modern
community.

transportation and communication technologies, it has enabled the Junction to connect with the
rest of the world [6]. For example, the grocery stores have fruits from all over American, and many
of stores use and sell products that are manufactured from oversea. Furthermore, the easiness to

Creating Up The Equation Of The American Dream
Homeownership is one of the many aspects that make up the equation of the American dream.
Buying a home for the first time brings pride of success and independency from the person who
has this opportunity. This American dream is something that parents dream for their children from
the time that the child is conceived. Being able to buy a home for the first time is an
accomplishment and a dream of a lifetime. However, this dream isn t cheap and cannot happen in a
short amount of time. When a person buys a house there is a lot that goes into it such as knowing
about your credit, your budget, and the type of home that you would like to purchase.
Even though buying a home has a lot of steps, it can be a smooth sailing ride because everything
is lined up and ready to process being able to buy the home. There s other cases where in order to
get the home, there are obstacles ahead that the person has to deal with. Sometimes there are even
times when everything has gone great and then the person gets hit with situations that leave them
with a decision to downsize ending up putting their house up for foreclosure. Foreclosure is when a
homeowner s rights to a property are forfeited because of failure to pay the mortgage. When the
owner can t pay off the debt then the house becomes the property of the lending institution.

steps give the owner time to try and get the money that they still

Private Memoirs And Confession Of A Justified Sinner
A tragedy story portrays a noble hero and heroine downfall through use of fate, the will of gods
and hubris. The book Private Memoirs and Confession of a Justified Sinner is a tragedy because
the book narrates a story about Wringham who had involved himself in crimes. At first, evil
triumphs over good as Wringham had been filled with self righteousness and hatred and these
attitudes made him to believe that any crime was right according to his religion including murder.
The story is full of crimes like murder, horror, religious fanaticism, fantasy and folklore (Hogg
Carrey 50). The publisher of the story was popular due to his magazine articles and poetry and
he was also self educated thus he published the book with the idea that the information in the
book is strange. This idea was as a result of horrific theme matter and experimental style which he
used in the book and he knew the general public would not appreciate his book. A French writer
Gide in 1940s argued that the book was a masterpiece. The story has three categories to enable
readers to understand different ways in which the book exist like folklore and local tradition. The
first category summarizes all events which Wringham did to make readers understand why
Wringham opted for confession. The second category narrates of the shocking confession process
of Wringham who was obsessed with crime for a long period. The third section talks of finding of

Analysis Of Angela Davis s The Black Liberation Movement
Malia Villani World Issues November 30, 2015 Angela Davis: An Autobiography Angela Davis

autobiography. Using personal stories, she sheds light on the obstacles that she had to face

the struggle of having to portray herself through numerous identities so that the police could not

Readers can gain a deeper understanding of the The Chosen by Chaim Potok when they analyze
the text through the literary lense of the Feminist Literary Theory. There are only three women in
The Chosen, none of which have any significant lines whatsoever. Although in this instance, the
lack of a prominent female character may say more about the meaning of the book that it would
with one. The main character, Reuven, grows up with no mother and instead is raised by his
father and a housekeeper named Manya. The other two women are Reuven s best friend Danny s
mother and sister who do little other than blend in with Hasidic community as best they can.

The Federal Trade Commission Act
In 1890, the United States Congress passed the first Anti Trust Law, called the Sherman Act, in an
attempt to combat anti trusts and as a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at
preserving free and unfettered competition as the rule of trade. (The Antitrust Laws). Twenty four
years later in 1914, Congress passed two more Anti TrustLaws: the Federal Trade Commission Act,
which created the Federal Trade Commission whose aim is to protect American consumers, and the
Clayton act, which fills in any loopholes in the Sherman Act. Ultimately, these three Anti Trust Acts
regulate three core problems within the market: restricting the creation of cartels, restricting the
mergers and acquisitions of organizations which could substantially lessen competition , and
prohibit the creation of monopolies in the market ( The Antitrust Laws ).
The history of the antitrust laws date back to the late nineteenth century, following the end of the
Civil War. This time, known as the Gilded Era, began when entrepreneurs began searching for big
profits from their business ideas. Over time, the small business ideas turned into massive
corporations. The creation of new ideas and a radical shift towards industrialism led to the Industrial
Revolution. Amongst the most powerful corporations during this time were the four that still exist

Norms And Its Effect On Society
Norms are unwritten socially accepted principles or rules in society that define what is normal
and what isn t. Some norms carry greater significance in our lives than others. The terminology
mores was inclined to norms that are extensively observed and hold extensive moral
significance. Mores also means taboos of society, things that are not accepted, such as chewing
with one s mouth closed is expected or eating in a sloppy way and at a fast pace is not an
acceptable behavior. Mores classify what is merited and what isn t. When a norm is violated it
is defined as deviance and even though the word deviance has a negative connotation to it, it s
not. Deviance means and individual is behaving differently from what society feels is normal
behavior. If a person is deviant from norms it doesn t necessary means that they are doing
something bad or immoral. For example, most Canadians eat meat on a regular basis and they
feel by doing so is normal behavior, someone who doesn t eat meat (vegetarian) they would be
considered deviant. Their behavior is different to what the majority considers acceptable or
normal. And just like norms are relative deviance is relative as well. It depends on the context,
individual groups or location in the world and the standard of deviance change based on these
factors. (Macionis, John J. Sociology) For this assignment, I choose to eat in a provocative manner

since they are on different parts of the guitar neck and can make for easier playing, it is a good
idea to learn them. The first one on the list should be based on C chords. 1. What are based on C
chords? As we have seen, chord shapes can be moved up and down the neck by barring them.
This allows you to play many different chords without changing your finger positions (or at least
not much, as the case may be). We have seen that an open A chord shape can be used with based

and some Shakespeare because I have not read a lot of his work before. I had a great summer
full of family, fun, and travel. My summer was not as interesting as your summer Mrs. Cole, but
I sure did have fun. The first trip I went on this summer was to New Orleans, which was pretty
Amazing because I got to walk down the historic streets of the world famous French Quarter. I
have not been to New Orleans since I was 4 years old with my whole family, but this time my
parents and I were the only ones who went. On the first day we went to CafГ© Du Monde, which
is an original French market stand that has been around since 1862. The best part of the... Show

Overall Las Vegas was probably the best part of my summer and I am lucky to have an amazing
family to enjoy it with. Other than the two trips I went on this summer, I did not do a lot
because my parents were busy with work and my sister was busy with summer classes. I was
busy every morning for football though because we had to be at Braden River every morning at
7:30. The only good part about waking up early was that when I was done I still had most of the
day to go fishing or do anything. Workouts really help out at the beginning of the season though
because it makes us ready and strong for the whole season. Besides having football every
morning, I went fishing a lot over the summer in lakes around my neighborhood. I at least
caught around 30 bass this summer because I was mostly fishing this summer when I had
nothing else to do. The only boring thing I had to do this summer was taking drivers ed online,
so I am prepared to take my permit test when I turn 15. The whole summer was filled with fun,
but it seemed like it went by very fast. The only reason it probably went by fast was because time
flys when your having fun. With all the fun happening this year my dog probably had the least
amount of fun because while we were on vacation he was at the vet. I have a miniature
Dachshund and he is my sisters little angel because he will follow her where ever she goes. The
worst part about the end of summer is that my sister Kiana has to go back to

Example Of Communicative Language Teaching
Have you chosen one of the best ways to teach your students today? Which one did you prepare? It
will be better to choose Communicative Language Teaching as one of the approaches in teaching
English. Communicative Language Teaching or CLT derived from communicative competence
(Hymes, 1971). It is a teaching approach which has goals, teachers and learners roles, process of
learninglanguage, and also can facilitate learning activities (Richards, 2006). CLT underlines
interaction between students. In the Communicative Language Teachingclassroom, the teacher has
a role as a facilitator who will only facilitate the learning process, not become a model. Moreover,
the students are going to be more active in learning the language (Richards, 2006). Thus, CLT is a...

When they talk and the teacher find some mistakes in their pronunciation, it will be fixed by the
teacher. Like, when the students will do an activity in the class then the teacher apply a dialogue or
role play. When they are talking, they must pay attention for the pronunciation. But, if the students
pronunciation is unclear, the teacher can fix it directly. Briefly, by increasing speaking ability,
students vocabulary, non verbal expertise and fluency in pronunciation will be better. To conclude,
Communicative Language Teaching is a teaching method that highlights interaction of students. It
is a good way to be applied for students because it can build cooperation among students by
working together in group or pair which can make them share their ideas to each other and show
their critical thinking. CLT also can facilitate activities in class which are interesting and fun such
as the role play activities, interviews, and games which need teacher s creativity in the process of
learning. Indeed, it can help the students to develop their speaking aptitude, so their fluency in
pronunciation, vocabulary, and non verbal skill are going to be

1. How does Gene describe the school when he visits it as an adult?
He described it as, looking oddly newer than it had fifteen years before . Saying it seemed more
sedate then he remembered, more perpendicular and strait laced, the windows seemingly more
narrow and shinier woodwork, seeming as though a coat of varnish had covered everything for
preservation. (Chapter 1, page 1)
What is this an example of? This is an example of imagery.
Why? Gene is describing the school in depth and immense detail, almost taking you to the school as
you read.

Gene began to feel lesser because he was not man enough to admit the same.
3. Was jouncing the limb a planned, conscious decision on Gene s part or an impulsive act? I
believe that Gene jouncing the limb was an impulsive act. As he stepped forward, his knees bent,
causing him to jounce the limb accidentally.
Examine the dialogue and events that occurred just before the fall: Finny climbed up the old tree,
Gene right behind. Just before the fall, Finny asked Gene to jump with him, side by side. He
said, Come out a little way, and then we ll jump side by side. As Gene stepped forward, the branch
jounced, and Finny fell. (Chapter 4, pages 51 52.)
4. What does Gene say to Finny about sports? That he is trying to be an assistant crew manager.
(Chapter 6, page 76.)
What does Finny have to say about it? He asks him, What do you want to manage a crew for?
What do you want to manage for? What s that got to do with sports? He then goes on to say,
Listen, pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play them for me. (Chapter 6, pages 76 77.)

Humanities Reflection
Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I
enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me
thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a
much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having
a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I
agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing
informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the
humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world
definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at
times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too
much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was
fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way
to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself
and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary
Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because
art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the

The Strange Case Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
During the story of The Strange Case Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde , the author presents his
knowledge of the duality of man, Stevenson uses this clear contrast to make his point, every
human being contains opposite forces within him or her, an alter ego that hides behind one s
polite fascia . Where Dr. Jekyll and Hyde contain a dark, scary side inside them, where evil is
detained in waiting to surface, but they hide it away, they pretend it does not exist, and they
keep it undercontrol. He presents this idea by using two characters, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,
who are actually the same person. One of these characters signifies the normal side of a person
characterized by Dr. Jekyll, who is a classic higher class individual, and the other, Mr. Hyde, a
deformed man, shows the purest of evil, but the truth cannot be denied that as Dr. Jekyll said
man is not truly one, but truly two. We come across the fact that basically the whole novel is
basically about the duality of human nature until the climax of the novel itself. We learn that the
idea that Dr. Jekyll had created another version of himself, but not the good one is where he
realizes he made a mistake because the other side of him has committed murders and he had a
really bad temper and he is known as Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll is the good man the one who does
charity work for his own community. Mr. Hyde in the other hand is the man who gives a sense of
his evil by just looking at his face and deformation. Hyde emerges and wins

Separation Of Church And State
Separation of Church and State
The United States of America has its history written in religion. Religion and government are
important topics in almost every citizen s daily life. The act of extrication religion and politics has
been a complicated topic for many years. Because the United States of America has so many roots
in religion, many political figures prey on the religious beliefs in their civil duties as a public
servant. According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, Throughout the nation s history,
political and social movements from abortion to women s suffrage to civil rights have drawn upon
religious institutions for moral authority, inspirational leadership and organizational muscle. The
United States has a long standing tradition of separating church and state but almost all
politicians run on a campaign that encompasses many religious ideals. According to Pew recent
elections more than ever have had religion deeply woven into the fabrics of politics. Religion has
found its way into almost all of the fabrics of our lives and has been leaking its way into one
thing that was originally supposed to be kept separate. This controversy even dates back to twenty
three B.C and can be found deep in the roots of the Roman Empire, can be found in the constitution,
but for America to be a Land of the Free , the practice of church and state intermingling must stop.
The idea of Church and State has roots dating thousands of years ago. The first

Cochlea Research Paper
The most known part of the auditory system is the cochlea, which is a spiral fluid filled tube
inside our ear. This organ has three different divisions or most commonly called the scalae,
which makes it circulate together around the central core and it creates something similar
looking to a snail with a shell. This is where many of the blood vessels as well as the auditory
nerve are confined. The organ of Corti, which is the site for all of the receptor cell sis found one
membrane between the scalae and basilar membrane. The cochlea is one of the most important
organs of the auditory systembecause it has many functions that are vital to our hearing and
processing of soundwaves. The cochlea accomplishes an analysis of frequency with a great degree
of resolution but it filters out the ringing noise, which would usually be present in such high degree
frequency resolution. After the soundwaves enter the cochlea, where they are translated into the
vibrations which produce waves that travel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not all of these parts of the brain could be considered to be in the auditory system since they often
overlap with the visual system and others. Some evidence suggests that inside the brain the
auditory cortex doesn t just receive the inputs from auditory senses but is impacted from more than
one sensory stimuli since the auditory cortex is spread out extensively inside the brain to sensory
areas. Because of so many different complications in the auditory cortex and how it is connected to
parts of the brain that are not involved in hearing the scientist have decided to only define the
auditory cortex to be correlated with hearing if the inputs come from the medial geniculate body in
the thalamus of the brain. The rest of the inputs that are correlated with the auditory cortex but are
not received from the medial geniculate body of the thalamus are mentioned as auditory

The Latin Word La Raza
The Latin word La Raza, spoken by many Latin Americans united by culture and spiritual beliefs,
is translated into the race. This idea of La Raza brings the cultures separated around the world
together based on the similar ideas of a great destiny and culture values. There are many concepts
that are different from the Anglos, which translates to white, English speaking American, but there
are many attributes that are similarly seen within each culture. Among many Anglos, there is a
racist assumption that those who are Mexican are lazy when there are cultural reasons for the
way Latin Americans choose to live. Those among the Mexican culture has a strong belief in a
splendid destiny planned by God that hasn t occurred based on the culture or groups of Mexican
people s sins; such as, the thieves and drunks (William, 1964, p. 15). This belief in God already
having a plan for each individual among the earth has created a calm atmosphere toward planning
for the future. Many Mexican Americans consider the act to plan frivolous because God has already
planned their future, and they permit fate to control their decisions. Instead of planning for the
future, the most important role is familyresponsibilities among the male and female presently. As
stated in William s article, Gregorio said, I owe everything to my family. Were it not for my
parents love for each other, I would never have been born. They raised me and taught me all I

Lower Body Adaptations For Power Lifting ( Squats )
Lower Body Adaptations to Power Lifting (Squats) Power is arguably the most important attribute
for an athlete. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity,
anaerobic sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic
processes that function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to
generate more power means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump
higher. Training for power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training
for strength. Power training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must
be done at a fast pace to reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work,
thus the product of force and velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the
maximum force the muscles are able to produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat
the same weight, they both have the same amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able
to perform that lift faster than the other, that athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still
important to also train for strength because gains in power are only possible if you are making
gains in strength through resistance training as well. It is important to focus your training on the
musclegroups and movements that are most alike the type of sport you are playing. In most cases,
the core and lower body

One of the biggest computer crimes is Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS) defined as
techniques or actions involving the use of one or more damaged computers to damage another

the Arkansas code. These DDoS attacks are one way attack someone by affecting their computer
network. DDoS attacks send a message to the people running the network that they can be
affected, many people use DDoS attacks to make a political statement. One recent DDoS attack
against the Luxembourg government was made in late February of this year According to
reports from the Luxemburger Wort, the attack started at 9.30 am, forcing the web servers of
many state authorities offline or difficult to reach. Just over an hour later, the state owned IT
operator Centre des Techniques de l information de l Etat (CTIE) sent a message via Twitter, to
confirm that the network was the victim of a DDoS attack (Millman, 2017) there cannot be a sure
reason for the attack but these types of attacks are used in a political context to protest the actions
of that nation. Computer crime can be more than just for money it can be a political statement, a

Reflection On Organizational Behavior
Organizational behavior is a very important topic that only a few students take advantage of.
There is nothing more powerful to have in the workforce than an understanding of the way the
people around you think and act. Having the ability to engage in the work that is being done with
coworkers and supervisors makes the work easier and more enjoyable. Workers can be most
productive when they have strong relationships to the people around them. This is why
management and organizational behavior is one of the most rewarding classes for an
undergraduate. Taking the StrengthsFinder test opened my eyes about my strengths as a leader. I
was shocked I got futuristic, however, I was not surprised to see strategic, empathy, relator, or
includer. I tend to like to live my life in the present; I try and savor and really live through the
moments happening in front of me. However, I do tend to dote on the futureand how terrified I am
of it. The assessment says futuristic leaders are inspired by the future, but it truly terrifies me. I
hope to look into this strength further in this course and discover how I can use the future to
propel me, and those around me, forward. The other strengths I received are very encouraging,
as all will likely give me an edge on any professional team. I have always had a very analytical
and strategic mind, and this strength will be an asset to any company when it comes to problem
solving or strengthening the company. In regards to forming professional relationships, I have
never really had an issue. I have always welcomed in new people and invited those I felt might
have been left out to be my friend too. Being a relator and an includer in a professional setting
will give me the opportunity to develop powerful and meaningful bonds with coworkers and
supervisors. Keeping these relationships will be easy for me as I am a keen observer of the
human condition and I know when others are feeling sad or down. I am always empathetic, and I
do my best to help whoever it may be back to their feet. In a professional setting, empathy can
help me see myself in a coworkers shoes and this could resolve disputes or even help them when
they are in times of need. All of my strengths deal with the central

Tonight I Can Write... Tonight I can write... is one of the best poems written by the great Pablo
Neruda. He was known as a poet when he was 10 years old. He wrote in many different styles,
including passionate love poems such this chosen poem. This is one of the greatest poem I ve
ever came across. Pablo really expressed his love and feelings towards his no longer loved one.
Reading this poem showed me how loyal and strong he is as well as remembering all the
memories whether they were a happy memories or sad ones. This poem also shows the reader from
the beginning, how their relationship was kind of great and then how things got escalated quickly

Next, when the writer said The night is shattered and the blue stars shiver in the distance , he
used imagery which is when words are used to create visual images. In this line, the writer creates

  • 3. Examples Of Rhetorical Devices In A Modest Proposal USE OF SATIRICAL STRATEGIES IN A MODEST PROPOSAL BY JONOTHAN SWIFT In his modest proposal, Jonathan Swift uses logical fallacies, repetition, metaphors, humor, parallelism, sarcasm and satire. The devices are effectively used to examine the attitude of the rich people towards the poor in the society. Jonathan starts by mocking the mothers for strolling in the streets begging for alms instead of looking for jobs and putting something on the tables for children to eat. Jonathan predicts that when the kids grow, they might turn out to be thieves as nobody taught these kids to earn an honest living. He uses logical fallacies to try and make the proposal modest though his line of thinking is not correct. He points out that a year old child is nourishing and wholesome food. That a healthy child is delicious food to be prepared using any method of food preparation is outrageous. He proposes that 20,000 children preserved for bleeding purposes. This is dehumanizing children and comparing them to animals. He outlines how slaughterhouses should be build and butchers be employed to do the slaughtering of children. In his exaggeration, he goes to the point of saying that the kids will be roasted like pigs. ( ) Swift also uses irony when he says that there are about 200,000 couples whose wives are just breeders. ( ) He proposes that an arrangement is made to the rear and provide for these children. Here he compares women to animals because human beings are not bred for commercial purposes. Here he dehumanizes human beings by use of satire. He gives reasons as to why this is a good idea. First, he says that the method will decrease the number of useless Catholics in Ireland. Secondly, he claims that the government will earn from exports of the meat from Ireland. The mothers will also earn something from this breeding and a burden will be lifted off their shoulders. He also foresees that the new delicacy will be welcomed in the taverns. The marriage institution will also be enhanced because mothers will put in more effort in raising the best kids because they would fetch good prices in the markets. To support his argument, Swift is sarcastic that some parts of children s body are good for eating. He further notes that these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Shakespeare s Measure For Measure A commonly shared, almost universal moral is that one should learn to forgive any transgressors and forget the transgressions which they have committed. In this example, forgiveness can be awarded by any given body, whether it be an individual or an institution, to any guilty party. According to philosopher Jacques Derrida, however, this definition is much too far reaching and allows for a misuse of the word forgivenessand of the concept of forgiveness itself. Derrida argues that forgiveness is paradoxical and unconditional, and that the unconditionality of forgiveness should not be confused with the sovereigntyof governmental law, or it will cause the governmental structure to lose not only its credibility, but offend those who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the punishment for something deemed unforgivable. However, Derrida says that it is precisely this unforgivable thing which is the only thing that can truly be forgiven (Derrida 32). Forgiveness must be an exchange between a singular victim and a singular guilty person (Derrida 42), forgiving a mortal sin or unforgivable transgression (Derrida 32), and must remain outside of any third party (including language, political structure, or any judicial law) (Derrida 42). This unforgivable transgression is often committed by a party which shows no remorse (Derrida 38). If it sounds contradictory, it is because it is so, and Derrida acknowledges this fact. He says that in order to achieve true forgiveness, one needs to believe in the impossible, and it should be extraordinary, interrupting the ordinary course of historical temporality (Derrida 32). Derrida also claims that modern government has never really been able to achieve this aim. However, Derrida also states that government has never stopped trying to incorporate forgiveness into their structures, and that to do so is impossible. The very nature of forgiveness, he says, must eliminate any third party. He argues that when a government as a structure aims to forgive a guilty person for doing something to an individual, they do a disservice to the individual by speaking for them, acting as that third party. This can be seen in cases of murder, for example, when the victim cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the thirties depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the wells may have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes. The best way to combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps such as a low dose hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by hydrate. Corrosion inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may have occurred due to water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes. Asphaltenes can be treated by using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving industry, flow assurance for deep water production is becoming increasingly more important. Flow assurance is made successful by flowing the strategy, PI3, Proficiency, Integration, Implementation, and Improvement. Without flow assurance, deep water wells would not be able to produce oil. • 9. Suicide In Me Before You, By Jojo Moyes People all have their own opinions about suicide and reasons to commit it, but could an author create a story to convince readers that suicide is okay? In the book Me Before You, Jojo Moyes has two main characters who have different opinions about this topic. Will Traynor wants to commit suicide and Louisa Clark is trying to prevent him from doing so. This created a lot of controversy in the book itself from both sides of the argument. People should have the right to commit suicidewhen disabled disadvantaged mentally or physically. In the book Me Before You, Jojo Moyes emphasizes the importance of having euthanasia as an option for ending your life when disabled. Moyes argues that disabled people cannot live life happily after having great experiences while active. She has Will, the quadriplegic man, living a depressing life ever since his accident. He spends his days waiting for his last day to arrive, and sadly, he wants it to occur soon. He has nothing to look forward for in his life. Lou s attempts ... • 10. Origin Of Runes Research Paper Myth attributes the origins of runes to the Norse god Odin. Legend describes how Odin hung himself from the World Tree, Yggdrasil, speared himself, and for nine days and nights, Odin travelled to and from the edge of death; a painful, mystical journey of self sacrifice and self awareness on which he discovered the runes. Odinthen taught the goddess Freya, the wisdom of the runes, who later passed on the knowledge of rune symbolism to Heimdall, god of the Rainbow Bridge, attributed with teaching runic characters and mystical lore to humanity. Runic inscriptions have been found on weaponry, boulders, manuscripts, jewellery, and other personal objects. Runes were in common use up until the Middle Ages, with runic carvings found as far north as Iceland, and as far south as England, where runes were used by wise counsellors and Anglo Saxon high chieftains. Although runes were used by the Vikings, earliest runic inscriptions predate the Viking tribes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some believe runes originated from either Latin, Turkish, or Etruscan languages. Other rune enthusiasts have theorized that runes were developed from Old Italic, or Greek, however, this seems highly unlikely for two main reasons. Firstly, Old Italic evolved from Etruscan, an ancient Greek alphabet which evolved from the Semitic alphabet, disseminated by the Phoenicians. The Semitic alphabet, Old Italic, and Greek alphabets, commence with the characters, Alpha and Beta. These two letters are distinctly absent from all early runic inscriptions. Secondly, the oldest rune engravings display runes that were written, and read, sometimes left to right, other times right to left, and in some instances, both right to left and left to right in the same inscription. It was not until the runic alphabet converged with Roman imperialism, that runes were predominantly written and read, left to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Environmental Consequences Of The Green Economy Environmental assets are subject to over consumption and exploitation, resulting in environmental damage because of the absence of an economic value associated with them (Wood, 2011). Since these environmental assets or ecosystem services are not owned, or lack price tags, there is no economic incentive to protect them. This brings forth an important dichotomy between the environment and the economy. The economic and environmental challenges we face today are of great concern for subsequent generations and unless urgent action is initiated, the consequences could unfold with the daunting prospect of a long and deep recession with increasing unemployment rates and decreasing output and an even greater ecological catastrophe (Wilson, 2013; Wood, 2011). The green economy poses a solution that tackles both these challenges together by safeguarding environmental protection through the creation of markets for ecosystem services which, in turn, can benefit the economy. This paper will discuss some of the benefits and problems arising from the idea of a green economy and look at the example of the carbon market to assess whether it achieves meaningful environmental protection or is just another ploy that fails to achieve real solutions that protect the environment or reduce the effects of climate change. 2.What is the Green Economy ? • 17. Human And Human Violence Violence has been prevalent throughout our history as a species. But what is violence exactly? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines violence as the use of physical force as to injure, abuse, damage, or destroy. Some well known examples of violence include World War 2, the Holocaust, and slavery. This begs the question are humans inherently violent? Naturally, such a controversial topic would have distinctive perspectives. For instance, there are individuals who believe that humanbeings are a product of their environment as opposed to people with the notion that Homo sapiens are genetically more violencethan other mammals. Personally, I support the latter theory about humans being characteristically more brutal than any other animal species since there has been research to defend these claims made by these researchers in recent years. Additionally, there is evidence to support the reality that our violent nature can be attributed to specific genes found within our genetic code. Another argument to be made about violence is the environmental atmosphere you have been raised in. For instance, a person raised in a war torn nation like Syria will have a different viewpoint on violence than someone who has been fortunate enough to be brought up in a more privileged country like Canada which is considered one of the best countries to live in. Moreover, our high percentage of violence as a species is directly correlated to our evolutionary path that allowed us to develop into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arthur Laurents is the author of the original book with the setting taking place in the upper west side New York city in a blue collar neighborhood during the mid 1950s. (The Broadway) Because West Side Story is a movie musical, it will be a lot of narrative conveyed through the song. The movie West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet have many similarities and differences consider their plot, their character and their setting. The major plot of the musical is about a rivalry between two different ethnic group gangs, the Sharks and Jets. The Sharks are Puerto Rican and the Jets are white. Leonard Bernstein composed the dynamic and influential music. In the mix of the conflict between the two gangs, a former member of the Jets, Tony, falls in love with the leader of the Sharks sister, Maria. Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet clearly influenced this movie, and there are parallel characteristics. For instance, Romeo and Tony, Juliet and Maria, Mercutio and Riff, Tybalt and Bernardo all have similar characteristics. As for the specific film, I decided to watch the 1961 version. 2. • 22. Japan s Change Of Modernity And Democracy There are many things that contributed to Japan s change to modernity and democracy whether it was between the political parties or if it was between their cultural system and the people s rights. Before Japan changed to a more modern and democratic society it was a feudal government structure based on Confucius views which was during the Tokugawa period. During the Tokugawa period there was a separation between the social classes which was categorized in four groups the samurai, peasants, artisans, and merchants. The two classes that had the most power were the samurai and the peasants. The samurai had the most power because they created a moral example and the peasants came in second into the social class since they produced food which was essential to survival of the people. The last two classes the artisans and the merchants. Although the merchants were last in the social class some were very wealthy and even owned their own monopolies, but since they were in the bottom of the class the laws prevented them to come higher into power. Although Japan was a feudal government and was more traditional the Japanese still developed some modernized urban influences like expanding their trading of commodities, and their advancement in their science studies. Though the Japanese had some of these modernized views the Tokugawa period soon came to an end due to the lack of government control by the shogun which created the four classes to fall apart. • 26. The Male And Female Gender Through Life Experiences Matthew Drozd How Do We Know What Gender We Are? Virginia Woolf s novel, Orlando, and Thomas Page McBee s memoir, Man Alive, aim to define the male and female gender through life experiences. Virginia Woolf uses the eponymous protagonist, Orlando, to define the freedom that men have within society while women face many societal restrictions. Within Man Alive, Thomas, a transgendered man, experiences similar freedoms and restrictions that Orlando experiences through his experiences within society. Man Alive is the journey of Thomas Page McBee s transition from woman to man; it focuses not on his physical change but on his mental change. Orlando was placed in a predicament that allowed him to experience life both as man and woman. The first thirty years of Orlando s life was spent as a man then he was permanently transformed into a woman. Almost parallel to Orlando s transition experience, Thomas was also in a predicament that allowed him to experience life as a man and woman. Thomas, born Page, goes through a transition to become male. Orlando and Thomas both aimed at trying to figure out who they were in society; Thomas was trying to find what kind of man he wanted to become and Orlando was trying to find what kind of woman she was becoming. Arguments Against Humanitarian Intervention Humanitarian intervention is a doctrine that advocates the opportunity to send humanitarian relief and international armed forces to help the victims of natural disasters or violations of human rights without the consent of the State concerned. The objective is to rescue, assist, assist and protect people in danger. This idea has appeared on the occasion of the Biafran War (1967 1970) which resulted in a terrible famine, but had been ignored by other States in the name of neutrality and non interference. The term humanitarian intervention was invented in the late 1980s by Bernard Kouchner, founder of Doctors Without Borders and politician, and Mario Bettati, Professor of Public International Law. The Junction is located on Dundas St. W between Runnymede Road and Keele Street, but for this report, I will be focusing on the section between St. John s Place and Pacific Avenue. The Junction dates back to the 19th century and is known for its railway tracks. It has been its own independent village until it joined the City of Torontoin 1909 [1]. Today, the Junction still has a charming historical aura with many of its original historic buildings while it continues to develop as a thriving modern community. Buying a home for the first time brings pride of success and independency from the person who has this opportunity. This American dream is something that parents dream for their children from the time that the child is conceived. Being able to buy a home for the first time is an accomplishment and a dream of a lifetime. However, this dream isn t cheap and cannot happen in a short amount of time. When a person buys a house there is a lot that goes into it such as knowing about your credit, your budget, and the type of home that you would like to purchase. Even though buying a home has a lot of steps, it can be a smooth sailing ride because everything is lined up and ready to process being able to buy the home. There s other cases where in order to get the home, there are obstacles ahead that the person has to deal with. The book Private Memoirs and Confession of a Justified Sinner is a tragedy because the book narrates a story about Wringham who had involved himself in crimes. At first, evil triumphs over good as Wringham had been filled with self righteousness and hatred and these attitudes made him to believe that any crime was right according to his religion including murder. The story is full of crimes like murder, horror, religious fanaticism, fantasy and folklore (Hogg Carrey 50). The publisher of the story was popular due to his magazine articles and poetry and he was also self educated thus he published the book with the idea that the information in the book is strange. This idea was as a result of horrific theme matter and experimental style which he used in the book and he knew the general public would not appreciate his book. A French writer Gide in 1940s argued that the book was a masterpiece. The story has three categories to enable readers to understand different ways in which the book exist like folklore and local tradition. The first category summarizes all events which Wringham did to make readers understand why Wringham opted for confession. The second category narrates of the shocking confession process of Wringham who was obsessed with crime for a long period. Using personal stories, she sheds light on the obstacles that she had to face whilst growing up in a predominantly white community while simultaneously trying to balance school, being active in creating a change, constant hiding, jail time, and wondering when the view against colored people would change. Davis starts off her autobiography by setting up the scene prior to her capture in the chapter titled Nets . It includes the struggle of having to portray herself through numerous identities so that the police could not track her down; to further explain, Davis is one of the FBI s most wanted for murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy in connection with the Marin County Courthouse shootout (p. 11). She was handed off to many of her close friends and others who agreed to keep her hidden and safe, until one day, she was caught. Police bombarded her with questions before she could answer and then detained her at the House of Detention in New York where she was separated from her accomplice and friend, David Poindexter. The Federal Trade Commission Act In 1890, the United States Congress passed the first Anti Trust Law, called the Sherman Act, in an attempt to combat anti trusts and as a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at preserving free and unfettered competition as the rule of trade. (The Antitrust Laws). Twenty four years later in 1914, Congress passed two more Anti TrustLaws: the Federal Trade Commission Act, which created the Federal Trade Commission whose aim is to protect American consumers, and the Clayton act, which fills in any loopholes in the Sherman Act. Ultimately, these three Anti Trust Acts regulate three core problems within the market: restricting the creation of cartels, restricting the mergers and acquisitions of organizations which could substantially lessen competition , and prohibit the creation of monopolies in the market ( The Antitrust Laws ). The history of the antitrust laws date back to the late nineteenth century, following the end of the Civil War. This time, known as the Gilded Era, began when entrepreneurs began searching for big profits from their business ideas. Over time, the small business ideas turned into massive corporations. The creation of new ideas and a radical shift towards industrialism led to the Industrial Revolution. • 42. Norms And Its Effect On Society Norms are unwritten socially accepted principles or rules in society that define what is normal and what isn t. Some norms carry greater significance in our lives than others. The terminology mores was inclined to norms that are extensively observed and hold extensive moral significance. Mores also means taboos of society, things that are not accepted, such as chewing with one s mouth closed is expected or eating in a sloppy way and at a fast pace is not an acceptable behavior. Mores classify what is merited and what isn t. When a norm is violated it is defined as deviance and even though the word deviance has a negative connotation to it, it s not. Deviance means and individual is behaving differently from what society feels is normal behavior. If a person is deviant from norms it doesn t necessary means that they are doing something bad or immoral. For example, most Canadians eat meat on a regular basis and they feel by doing so is normal behavior, someone who doesn t eat meat (vegetarian) they would be considered deviant. Their behavior is different to what the majority considers acceptable or normal. And just like norms are relative deviance is relative as well. It depends on the context, individual groups or location in the world and the standard of deviance change based on these factors. (Macionis, John J. However, there are also a few more shapes of chords that can be played on the guitar neck. As each of these shapes makes a different sound (not as far as which chord, but in a tonal sense) and since they are on different parts of the guitar neck and can make for easier playing, it is a good idea to learn them. The first one on the list should be based on C chords. 1. What are based on C chords? As we have seen, chord shapes can be moved up and down the neck by barring them. This allows you to play many different chords without changing your finger positions (or at least not much, as the case may be). We have seen that an open A chord shape can be used with based on A barre chords and and open E shape can be used for based on E barre chords, but there are also based on C chord. These chords are a little different, and are not technically barre chords at all, which makes them easy to learn if you have trouble with the barring. The general idea is to take the C chord and move it up the neck. But how to do this? 2. What s the idea behind them? The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. The Strange Case Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde During the story of The Strange Case Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde , the author presents his knowledge of the duality of man, Stevenson uses this clear contrast to make his point, every human being contains opposite forces within him or her, an alter ego that hides behind one s polite fascia . Where Dr. Jekyll and Hyde contain a dark, scary side inside them, where evil is detained in waiting to surface, but they hide it away, they pretend it does not exist, and they keep it undercontrol. He presents this idea by using two characters, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, who are actually the same person. One of these characters signifies the normal side of a person characterized by Dr. Jekyll, who is a classic higher class individual, and the other, Mr. Hyde, a deformed man, shows the purest of evil, but the truth cannot be denied that as Dr. Jekyll said man is not truly one, but truly two. We come across the fact that basically the whole novel is basically about the duality of human nature until the climax of the novel itself. We learn that the idea that Dr. Jekyll had created another version of himself, but not the good one is where he realizes he made a mistake because the other side of him has committed murders and he had a really bad temper and he is known as Mr. Hyde. The rest of the inputs that are correlated with the auditory cortex but are not received from the medial geniculate body of the thalamus are mentioned as auditory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This idea of La Raza brings the cultures separated around the world together based on the similar ideas of a great destiny and culture values. There are many concepts that are different from the Anglos, which translates to white, English speaking American, but there are many attributes that are similarly seen within each culture. Among many Anglos, there is a racist assumption that those who are Mexican are lazy when there are cultural reasons for the way Latin Americans choose to live. Those among the Mexican culture has a strong belief in a splendid destiny planned by God that hasn t occurred based on the culture or groups of Mexican people s sins; such as, the thieves and drunks (William, 1964, p. 15). This belief in God already having a plan for each individual among the earth has created a calm atmosphere toward planning for the future. Many Mexican Americans consider the act to plan frivolous because God has already planned their future, and they permit fate to control their decisions. Instead of planning for the future, the most important role is familyresponsibilities among the male and female presently. As stated in William s article, Gregorio said, I owe everything to my family. Were it not for my parents love for each other, I would never have been born. They raised me and taught me all I know...When one has a family, one is never alone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. Lower Body Adaptations For Power Lifting ( Squats ) Lower Body Adaptations to Power Lifting (Squats) Power is arguably the most important attribute for an athlete. Specifically, it is most important for an athlete participating in a high intensity, anaerobic sport. Anaerobic power is defined as the rate of energy release by cellular metabolic processes that function without the involvement of oxygen. (Kenney 212) Having the ability to generate more power means you will be able to like run faster, change direction quicker, and jump higher. Training for power will have a much bigger impact on the athletes ability than just training for strength. Power training will more than likely involve more complicated movements that must be done at a fast pace to reach maximum results. Power is defined as the rate of performing work, thus the product of force and velocity. (Kenney 211) Strength on the other hand, is just the maximum force the muscles are able to produce. For example, if you have two athletes that squat the same weight, they both have the same amount of strength, however if one of the athletes is able to perform that lift faster than the other, that athlete has more power. With that being said, it is still important to also train for strength because gains in power are only possible if you are making gains in strength through resistance training as well. It is important to focus your training on the musclegroups and movements that are most alike the type of sport you are playing. In most cases, the core and lower body ... There is nothing more powerful to have in the workforce than an understanding of the way the people around you think and act. Having the ability to engage in the work that is being done with coworkers and supervisors makes the work easier and more enjoyable. Workers can be most productive when they have strong relationships to the people around them. This is why management and organizational behavior is one of the most rewarding classes for an undergraduate. Taking the StrengthsFinder test opened my eyes about my strengths as a leader. I was shocked I got futuristic, however, I was not surprised to see strategic, empathy, relator, or includer. I tend to like to live my life in the present; I try and savor and really live through the moments happening in front of me. However, I do tend to dote on the futureand how terrified I am of it. The assessment says futuristic leaders are inspired by the future, but it truly terrifies me. I hope to look into this strength further in this course and discover how I can use the future to propel me, and those around me, forward. The other strengths I received are very encouraging, as all will likely give me an edge on any professional team. I have always had a very analytical and strategic mind, and this strength will be an asset to any company when it comes to problem solving or strengthening the company. In regards to forming professional relationships, I have never really had an issue. I have always welcomed in new people and invited those I felt might have been left out to be my friend too. Being a relator and an includer in a professional setting will give me the opportunity to develop powerful and meaningful bonds with coworkers and supervisors. Keeping these relationships will be easy for me as I am a keen observer of the human condition and I know when others are feeling sad or down. I am always empathetic, and I do my best to help whoever it may be back to their feet. In a professional setting, empathy can help me see myself in a coworkers shoes and this could resolve disputes or even help them when they are in times of need.
