Volunteering At Memorial Hermann
Many people don t realize the true value of volunteering, but I ve come to understand the incredible
impact of volunteering through my experience at Memorial Hermann. Mahatma Gandhi once said,
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. For me, his words could not
be truer. Volunteering at Memorial Hermann transformed my life by teaching me lessons through
small moments. One such instant occurred when I went to wheel an old lady visiting her husband. The
lady and I conversed for many minutes about college, my future plans, and life in general. When we
reached the lobby, the lady wished me luck in all my future endeavors. Coincidentally, I wheeled the
lady several times after that and each time she would remember

Case Study Of Forensic Entomology By Benecke And Lessig
Case study related to Forensic Entomology
A study on child neglect and forensic entomology was done by Benecke and Lessig. On 10th July
2000, in a city in Central Germany, a child was found dead in the apartment of a 20 year old woman
during an enforced eviction due to a lack of payments of rent. There are signs of greenish
discoloration, and skin slippage on the corpse. The child s mother was a heroin user, and worked as a
street prostitute. The father had been arrested for theft 5 months before. According to the testimony,
the mother lived at her uncle s house in the past 2 weeks and she forgot when she had last seen her
child. She told him that her child was living together with the grandmother. She even asked him how
long can a human survive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a few minutes, these larvae were fixed in 70% ethanol and shipped to the forensic entomologist.
From the genital area, third instar larvae of Muscina stabulans (false stable fly) and Fannia canicularis
(little house fly) were identified. From the face, maggots of Caliphora vomitoria (bluebottle) were
identified. No Lucilia or Phaenicia (greenbottle) individuals were found.
Both M. stabulans and F. canicularis adults can frequently be found in local apartments in which they
are attracted to rotten organic matter. From second instar onwards, M. stabulans larvae prey on other
larvae. F. canicularis showed a delay of initial colonization of 3 10 days post mortem and it is strongly
attracted to both urine and feces. M. stabulans is strongly attracted to human faeces but lesser to
corpses. The conditions were compared with those reported by Nuorteva as only few observations on
the development of M. stabulans were available. Conditions were found to be quite similar for an
estimation of a post mortem interval of between 7 21 days, most likely around 14 days that is on 27th
June 2000. This quite conservative estimate was because of the fact that it was uncertain whether a fly
population may already found inside of the flat a few months before. Therefore, it is important that the
forensic entomologist is at the crime scene to determine such

Judith Deapitating Holofernes Essay
Judith Decapitating Holofernes by Trophime Bigot is an oil on panel painting. There are numerous
different elements of art incorporated into this painting. There are no visible brush strokes as a result
of the painter s attention to detail. The three main figures and the drapes of the tent form a triangle.
Judith s face is the most illuminated and defined making her the central focus of the painting. The
other woman in profile in the painting is facing her adds to this effect. Judith s arms draw the viewers
focus down the gruesome beheading and horrified look of Holofernes. Since his face is partially
obscured by shadow, the painting s main focus is Judith. Bigot had extreme attention to detail. There is
little to no grain or brush ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 3 d effect is created by the layering of the 3 figures and overlapping their different body parts.
This is also emphasized by the use of shadows. The illusion of space adds to the composition by
invoking the viewer s imagination and leading them to believe that the painting takes place
somewhere dark and secretive.
There were multiple principles of design incorporated into the piece. Such as the rule of thirds and
triangular composition.
In order to create a sense of variety in the painting, Bigot utilizes his astounding dexterity in his use of
value, depth, and focal points.
There is a clear visual path for the viewer to follow when observing Bigot s painting of Judith
Decapitating Holofernes. Bigot utilizes triangular composition in order to draw the viewers eye to
scan all the different elements of the painting. The eye is drawn to the candle not only because it is in
the center of the painting, but also because it is the most illuminated compared to the outer edges of
the painting that have a deep valued contrast. The viewer then focuses in Judith because she is the next
element with the most illumination. Her arms lead the viewer down to witness Holofernes gruesome

The World s Largest Religion
Introduction
Christianity is the world s largest religion in number of adherents, accounting to more than 2.1 billion
(around 31.4% as of 2015) and geographical spread in almost every country in the world, there is at
least one Christian community (Green ,2015).
The former religion of the Romans was polytheism based and could not give comfort to the destitute.
The many Gods and Goddesses did not lend themselves to the idea of equality and salvation.
Christianity proclaimed the equality of all people. People were considered equal in Christianity and
the Christian God was the unquestioned authority. This God did not share a pantheon with others, he
was the one and only. The new religion rejected the existing social system of slavery, and thus gave
rise to hope of liberation from oppression of the most desperate people. The religion called for the
reconstruction of the world. It gave hope to slaves, hope for freedom to common people through a
simple and accessible way through the adoption of the doctrine of Christ (Adair, 2008, pp.18 19).
Initially, Christianity spread among the Jews of Palestine and the Mediterranean diaspora of the Jews.
But starting from the first decades, especially through the work of the Apostle Paul, it has acquired a
large number of followers among other nations (Adair, 2008, p.19).

According to the doctrine of Christianity, God is an original entity and a predecessor of the whole

Decision Making Process At Southwest Airlines
Part E: Cost, Profit, and Investment Center
Decision making
The decision making process at Southwest Airlines is decentralized whereby the decision making
authority is delegated to lower level managers and employees. This is based on the idea that managers
at the lower level have a better understanding of local factors and conditions hence are better
positioned to make decisions than the senior management. The airline understands the need for
empowering employees and the impact this empowerment has on the company. For instance, when the
airline wanted to refurbish its employee s uniform, instead of hiring someone outside the company, the
airline invited all employees who had suggestions about the new uniform to apply. The employees
who were selected for this process met every two weeks to discuss the design of the new uniforms
(Thomas, 2016).
For Southwest Airlines, incorporating employee input in the decision making process creates a more
authentic brand. For instance, the involvement of employees in the uniform design made the
employees take pride in being part of the airline. The decentralized decision making approach makes it
possible for Southwest Airlines to bring employees from different departments and various cities to
interact with each other and build a cohesive workplace. In addition, employee involvement in the
decision making process at the company makes employees to feel more motivated and loyal to the
company.

Do Supplemental Software And Technology Help English As A...
The research question the group asks is, Do supplemental software and technologies help English as a
Second Language (ESL) and English Language Learner (ELL) students in both short and long term
ways? Our target population for this study is college students that are ELLs. Finding participants is
one part of the study, but since we are researching students on a college campus they will have to be at
least 18 to 30 years old to participate in the study. UMKC has a very large and diverse campus; we
will reach out to the Applied Language Institute (ALI) students through a class survey. We decided
that college would be a better population to start out with because it provides many social
opportunities. We are looking for a population that will provide us with direct feedback from the trial.
Students in college will know how they learn and be able to explain how technology either helped
them or hurt them while learning. Having students participate on campus also ensures that they have
access to internet and WiFi. We are aware that there are many limitations that face college students,
but there are also benefits to choosing students in college.
Sample
The participants in the study range from 18 to 30 years old. We did not specify what year we are
looking for in college. We just wanted to have adults participate. If there are students that do not fit
into the age range, they should be noted as younger and provide parental consent in order to ensure
that we will be able to

Beauty And Similes In Annie Dillard s Journey In Tinker Creek
When needing to retreat, Annie Dillard goes to Tinker Creek and immerses herself in nature. During
one of these trips, she has a snippet of a revelation, which makes her see beauty and ugliness in
harmony and see the world as meaningful; even though there is sorrow. In this passage, Dillard uses
the symbolism of a maple key and similes to explain its descend as something beautiful, seeing the
positive in the negative. When she is at Tinker Creek, she uses words like lost, sunk which shows the
lack of understanding as she looks towards Tinker Mountain. All of a sudden, she sees what looks like
a Martian spaceship . She uses a simile to describe what she sees as otherworldly or magical because a
Martian spaceship is not from this world. She describes that it flashed borrowed light like a propeller .
As the object is coming down, it brings with it light or a revelation. She goes on to portray it as
pirouetting and twirling , words which are often associated with ballet and are viewed by most people
as beautiful. Her experience with this beautiful, otherworldly object is a door that allows her to see
this as part of the beauty in the world.
When the object falls, she finds it in the grass and she later identifies it as a simple maple key. Dillard
identifies the key after describing her experience because she was unsure of what it was as it was
falling but knew after had fallen. The maple key, which usually is in pairs falls single. She greets the
maple with a simple

Slavery Dbq Essay
Between 1775 and 1830, in many places African Americans gained their freedom from slavery and in
others, the institution of slavery expanded. Eventually, slavery became abundant in places where it
was most necessary and died out in the places where it was of little use. In response, most free African
Americans and enslaved African Americans took action against their maltreatment by petitions and
willingness to fight. The first trend of declining slavery was visible from the first declared
emancipation of slaves by Lord Dunmore in November of 1775. By granting freedom to all slaves
who would raise arms against the American rebels, Lord Dunmore hoped to bring more troops into his
ranks in Virginia. This movement continued following the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, however, slave labor was needed to do the backbreaking work in the hot Southern sun and
thus became more valuable than ever before. The map shows that in 1790, slaves consist of less than
10 percent of the population in most areas of the country, and as much as 50 percent in small sections
on the Southern coast. However, by 1830 most of the Northern states were areas either without any
slaves or less than 10 percent. In contrast, the majority of Southern states had a slave population
between 10 and 50 percent. This slave populous area extended along the Southern coasts as well as
deep into Kentucky and Tennessee. The changes in slave density between 1790 and 1830 directly
relate to areas were slave labor was an economic necessity. African Americans in separate situations
often shared similar opinions concerning slavery and freedom. Although many blacks, both freed and
enslaved, were willing to speak out against slavery and petition their rights, they did so in varying
degrees. In one instance, a slave politely requested that his owner grant him the right to purchase his
freedom. Another slave, Gabriel Prosser, took a more extreme approach to gaining his freedom. In
fact, he led a rebellion against the white slaveholders in 1800. Even freed African Americans were
maltreated. Both Prince Hall and Hosea Easton, Boston residents, protested the daily insults and abuse

Comparing John Maynard Keynes And F. A. Hayek
In the face of a complex world, it is often difficult for both individuals and governing bodies to find
the best way to live and rule. Many great thinkers have attempted to make sense of the world with
organized systems that raise the question of what role humans hold within that structure. Friedrich
Nietzsche creates an overarching view of existence in which individuals are responsible for their own
lives, subsequently creating their own realities. For Nietzsche, human agency is the only system. On
the other hand, John Maynard Keynes and F. A. Hayek create financial systems that take opposing
stances on whether free will helps or hurts the economy. In this essay, I will show how both economic
authors temper Nietzsche s radical and existential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He acknowledges that his system isn t going to be ideal, saying, Of course, these adjustments are
probably never perfect in the sense in which the economist conceives of them in his equilibrium
analysis (Hayek 527). This is important because, while the structure may have its flaws, Hayek doesn t
rely on natural balance like classical theory or the government as an ever present safeguard like
Keynes. Instead, Hayek is realistic about the ups and downs of the economy, saying that people must
swallow the bitter pill of tough times in order to keep their free will (Wise). A strong government
infrastructure helps the economy persevere through its struggles and thus his economic structure finds
a realistic approach to stabilize individual power and

Profitability Ratios: Return on Sales Ratio, Return on Assets, and Return on Net Worth.
Solvency Ratios Analysis
The quick ratio for Exxon in 2010 and 2011 are 0.64 times, which falls between the median and lower
range of the industry averages on the D B chart for both years. This shows that ExxonMobil

current ratio in 2010 and 2011 is 0.94 times, in which 2010 falls in the lower range and 2011 falls

Budweiser Ad Analysis Essay
One day of the year Americans tend to appreciate the advertisements interrupting their television
program a little more than others. This day is known as Super Bowl Sunday. These advertisements are
some of the most watched ads each year. One ad that a lot of people look forward to seeing is the
Budweiser ad. They are most famous for their beautiful Clydesdale horses. They are usually the main
stars in their ads. Last year Budweiser decided to use a sentimental approach with the ad Lost dog .

approach this year. The ad this year Never back down had a more fierce message, that the company

Unlike Lost dog this ad was not created to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. It is much more
intense and rugged. The feelings intended for the costumer to get while watching this are pumped up
or excited to try their product. The target for this ad would be for more for younger adults. The ad
maximized all of their strengths by pointing out what their company is not. It promotes their product
and company instead of providing a short story. The clips used are only shown for a few seconds each
and feature a Budweiser product or costumer using the product. The activities the customers are
engaging in are all in an intense atmospheres. For example a rock concert, teammates after winning a
big game, or friends out having fun. All the clips chosen portray how wild and fun Budweiser can be.
The words describing what they are not are plain white, all caps, and in the middle of the screen. By
describing what they are not Budweiser was saying what they actually are. This would be a big
successful company that knows what they are doing. The ad also made it clear that Budweiser is made
by hard working Americans. This is something that may appeal to consumers that prefer buying
American made products. The ad portrays Budweiser as a very confident dominating company. It also
portrays that drinking Budweiser means having more

Brooke Davis Case
Case Study of Character: The character I have chosen for the focus of my case study is Brooke Davis,
from the television show, One Tree Hill. Over the nine seasons of this show, we see Brooke go from a
wild teen not caring about her future regarding careers to an admirable, hardworking, and focus
individual. Throughout her high school teen years, Brooke lacked parental guidance in her household.
In her childhood years, she witnessed a lot of fighting and arguments of her parents. In her high school
teen years, she mostly lived by herself and was given money by her parents to compensate for their
absence. Without any rules or restrictions, Brooke resorted to a partying type life style for a while. She

The identity status she best fits in at this stage is identity diffusion. I feel like she fits better in this
stage because as a result of Brooke not having experiencing any sort of rules around her household
during her teenage years, her world revolved around shopping, partying, and boys. She never really
gave much thought to what she wanted to become in the future because she lacked that motivation
from her parents. Later on, Brooke develops a strong interest in designing her own clothes and begins
her own clothing line, Clothes Over Bros, while still being a senior in high school. After she graduates
from high school, four years pass and we see Brooke become a major and well known fashion
designer in New York and her clothing company had already made millions. This is where Brooke
Davis experienced the status of identity achievement. Her clothing line started as a small idea in high
school and through exploration of the fashion designer world, her dream became a reality. I would not
say that she ever experienced the status of identity moratorium because she never really was torn
between to career areas. Once she knew that she had that desire to design clothes, she went for it
without second guessing herself. The status that Brooke proved wrong is identity foreclosure. She
proved this wrong because just because fashion designing was her passion, she did not let the industry
change who she was. She managed to be highly successful while still remaining humble and not
changing her beliefs or morals to conform to everyone else. A lot of time, the money changes people
but because money was always a constant in her life she was able to remain that presidential worthy

The Concept Of Time In Roberto Bolano s Amulet
Time is a wonderful part of the world and our lives. Time allows us to learn, grow, make memories,
feel emotions, teach, and meet new people, just to name a few. Sometimes, we may not think we have
enough time for our various goals because of numerous distractions. The concept of time can be hard
to understand because it is a cycle but something we cannot return or get back. In Amulet, time plays a
large factor in the way that Auxilio tells her story.
The character Auxilio in the book Amulet, is a unique character who is engulfed in the writing and
poetry of Mexico. She calls herself the mother of poetry because of all the ties she has with the
various artists in Mexico including Arturo Belano (Roberto Bolano s alter ego in the book). Amulet
describes her experiences with these artists over the course of the book as she tries to find herself ,
find her meaning in life. Time plays a very large role in how she depicts this story and how she
describes her relationships with these writers. The unit of time is a part of the setting in the story. It
helps describe the era and provides context for the reader. Setting is very important to a good story,
therefore so is time. Roberto Bolano understood this, which is why he uses the word time , in multiple
variations, 175 times over the course of Amulet. Here are some examples of how Bolano uses the term
in the book with Auxilio. At one point Auxilio says, Let me stretch time out like a plastic surgeon

The Easiest Path In The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson
Two stories from different genres and different points of view, somehow deals the same theme.
Standing up for what is right may not always be the easiest path, there is was some consequence that
people have to pay for trying to make things right. Everyday there is something going on that people
want to change, but they cannot always stand up. In the story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson,
villagers gather in the town square, to the annual lottery, where only one person is lucky. However,
winning is actually losing in this story, the winner gets stoned to death by their peers. Mrs. Hutchinson

always be the easiest path , because Mrs. Hutchinson was trying to tell everyone that it was not fair,
that Mr. Hutchinson was pressured, but no one listened to her. Because it is hard to stand up for what
is right. Another example, in The Lottery is [ It isn t fair, she said. A stone hit her on the side of the
head ]. This example illustrates that it may not always be the easiest path in the theme, because
Tessie/Mrs. Hutchinson tries to stand up for what is right and at the end she just got stoned to death.
The Lottery states [ Some places have already quit lotteries, Mrs. Adams said Nothing but trouble in

doing the lottery, because they are standing for what is right, however Old Man Warner reacts that

As stated above the University of California San Diego is not in the most desirable location, however I
believe it is the right choice after Mesa. UCSD is located in La Jolla at 9500 Gillman Drive (Make

In comparison SDSU would be a 17 minute drive. Brenda Antonio, a manager in the accounting

Bipolar Disorder And Major Depression
Mood disorders are characterized by unstable emotions, which are not always completely within the
individual s control. Mood disorders are one of the most common categories of psychological
disorders, and the two most common disorders within this category are bipolar disorder and major
depression (also known as clinical depression). These disorders often require a patient to take
medications to regulate their mood, which is often paired with psychotherapy or talk therapy. While
they are common, they are no less serious than any other psychological disorder and should be treated
as such. Major depression, also called clinical depression, is mostly identified by its significant
symptoms. Some symptoms of major depression include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mania is characterized by extreme excitement, euphoria, and hyperactivity. A person suffering from
bipolar disorder may do dangerous or extreme things during an episode of mania. The signifier for
bipolar disorder that causes many to mistake it for depression is the sudden shift, in which people
experiencing an episode of mania will have a drastic drop in mood. This drop will cause an episode of
depression, characterized by a depressed mood, low levels of activity, fatigue, and suicidal thoughts or
actions. Sometimes people experiencing bipolar disorder only have a subtle shift in their mood, or a
less alarming one. This leads people to believe that instead of experiencing bipolar disorder, they are
actually experiencing depression, as their period of mania is not in fact as hyperactive and excited as
others may experience. Treatments for clinical depression vary depending on the specific patient being
treated. Some may experience an array of antidepressants, or drugs that regulate the neurotransmitters
(noradrenaline and serotonin) discussed earlier. Most antidepressants are taken for several months, or
years, and have to be strictly regulated to promote the healthiest and most reliable treatment option.
Although antidepressants must be taken for long periods of times, unlike other drugs the dosage does
not need to be raised in order for it to keep the same

existence. This white supremacy group has shown that the 1st amendment will not be bent or broken
for evil. This secret society has done many illegal acts since it s forming, has very hateful symbols, but
has proved that the 1st Amendment is strong and protected.
The KKK started on Christmas Eve in the year of 1866 in Pulaski, Tennessee when a group of
Confederate soldiers formed the first branch. The KKK quickly spread across the East Coast and then

A Research Study On Human Breast Milk
Human breast milk has being known to play a vital role in providing nutrition to babies. Human breast
milk is a natural source of supply for the baby while producing enzymatic, immunologic, and
hormonal elements to the baby (Kennaugh Lockhart Borman, 2011). During the early 20th century
nearly all babies where fed either with maternal breast milk or donated breast milk. (THE HISTORY
OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1) As time progressed on supplement feeding through the use of
artificial milk became more popular then breast milk. Through history mothers have taken a huge
interest in utilizing supplements of donor breast milk to feed their babies nutritious breast milk. When
maternal milk is inadequate or lacking particularly for high risk or premature infants pasteurized
donor milk is the next best option. Donor milk banking plays an important role in meeting these
recommendations . (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
Some history of how breast milk came about goes all the way back to a practice called wet nursing. It
is a practice when children were either breastfed by their mothers or breast fed by friends, relatives or
strangers. (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
In the 13th century, European women made more money working as wet nurses than any other
occupation open to women. By early in the twentieth century, awareness of the possibility of disease
transmission, difficulty finding wet nurse s particularly in North America and an increasing number

The Female Pilots Of The United States During World War II
During World War II, the United States had a shortage of pilots, and the leaders decided to train
women to fly military aircraft so male pilots could be released for combat duty overseas. The group of
female pilots was called the Women Airforce Service Pilots, WASP for short. Young women between
the ages of twenty one to thirty five, all civilian volunteers, flew almost every type of military aircraft
but were not considered to be formally militarized. The program began in 1942, and was closed by
1944. But within this time frame, the female pilots flew sixty million miles in every military aircraft
and thirty eight died while serving their country as Army Air Corps arsenal. It wasn t until many years
later that the WASPS were finally given acknowledgement of their services and recognized as veterans
of war. One member, Anne Chisholm Dessert Oliver, from Brandon Manitoba, Canada tells her story
of her experience as a member of the WASP s. Oliver, a French Canadian with dual citizenship knew
at an early age she wanted to fly. During a trip to Colorado with her father, Oliver experienced her first
flight at the county fair. It was at this moment she decided she wanted to become a pilot. Oliver s
father worked in the seed business and eventually moved to El Centro, California, where Oliver would
eventually begin her journey as an iconic female pilot. Oliver and a friend bought shares in a small
plane and began to take private lessons. During this time, she had heard of the

Racial Diversity On College Campuses
Racial Diversity on College Campuses College universities should actively strive to make their
campuses racially diverse for the benefit of their students and society. Emphasized in 10 Reasons Why
We Need Diversity on College Campuses is the expansion and growth of ethnic groups in America
and the failure of universities to represent the population on their campus; America s future workforce
will be soon comprised of people of minority groups (Kerby). The county s workforce will be inferior
to other advanced countries if colleges don t work to provide higher education for minority groups. By
strengthening individual people, the society is collectively stronger. In order for this to happen,
universities need to be focused on diversity in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

stated that employers seek employers that can work with customers from diverse backgrounds (Wells).
Living on a campus that includes people from different racial backgrounds prepares one for the

succeed and be comfortable in any field that they choose. Students will have an easier time adapting to

Why Did Italy Become A Member Of The Triple Entente
In 1915 Italy and Austria engaged in a gruesome war in one of the most unique and challenging
battlefields the tops of the Dolomite mountain range. The two countries were fighting to gain control
of the Trentino and South Tyrol areas. Austria was allied with Germany, in an alliance called the Dual
Alliance. Previously, Italy was also allied with these two countries, but when the Triple Alliance
agreement ended just before WW1, Italy decided to remain neutral. Then, in 1915 Italy joined the
Triple Entente which included England, France, and Russia, to fight against the Dual Alliance. One of
the reasons why Italy became a member of the Triple Entente was because the Treaty of London, a
secret pact between the Triple Entente and Italy, promised ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1915, Italy was fully unified except for the region of Trento, which was occupied by the Austrians.
Returning Trentino to Italy became a common goal for citizens and also helped to give rise to the age
of nationalism. Norberto Bobbio, an italian philosopher of political science and a historian, said the
objectives of the great war were for the liberty of all, in fact the participation of Italy with the Triple
Entente against the Duple Alliance wasn t seen as a new beginning of the Italian Empire but as the last
war of the Risorgimento. . Every single different political group wanted Italy completely unified.
Nationalism was fairly new in Italy because of it s just recent unification, but even though it was new,
in the beginning of the 20th century the shipowners, farmers, and the blacksmiths all favoured the
nationalists. In the 23rd of May, the day that Italy declared war against Austria, all the italians
celebrated. In fact in Civitavecchia the whole town accompanied and celebrated the soldiers who were

Narcissistic Parents Essay
Walking into a beauty pageant you may hear moms say something like, Fix your hair and makeup,
stand up straight, smile pretty, and copy everything I do . Pageant moms are prime examples of
narcissistic parent s living vicariously through their children. Unfortunately, many activities, such as
beauty pageants, are the parent s decision rather than the child s. Although the child may not enjoy
what they re doing, expressing their feelings often causes little to no change with a narcissistic parent.
This often causes the child to become codependent, making them feel it s necessary to put others
needs before their own and feeling the need please their parent in exchange for validation. Control
over someone else is the ultimate jackpot every narcissist works so hard to win (Meyers). Narcissistic
people thrive off of relationships where everything is adjusted to fit their needs. They tend to be
entitled, brag about about their achievements, fish for compliments, and always feel a need to be the
center of attention (Rosenberg). Egotistical people often show jealously towards their child s growing
independence and believe that their child is there to fulfill their wishes instead of his or her own wants
and needs (Meyers). It s estimated that up to 6% of the US population has narcissistic personality
disorder (Johnson). While about, 96 Percent of Americans Suffer from Codependency (Kaminer).
While narcissistic parenting is shown to be a main cause codependency, they go hand to

Tally In Uglies By Scott Westerfeld
Would you like to live in a world where you are born ugly and forced to transform pretty by age 16
and you have no say? Well the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld is about a girl named Tally who meets
Shay, a teenager just like her, that decides not to turn pretty and escape to a city called The Smoke.
This gets Tally in trouble as she is threatened by a doctor in Special Circumstances, named Dr. Cable,
that she will stay ugly for life if she doesn t find and return her friend, along with other people that
escape too. I enjoyed this book very much because I felt that it kept me interested while reading
instead of boring me. Throughout the book the main characters showed a variety of different character
traits. Also some scenes demonstrate when the character is applying values either positive or negative.

The story is based on her life, how she meets new friends, and about her journey to The Smoke. In the
book she shows three main traits. She s very caring, she demonstrates this when she tells Shay to be
careful on her trip to The Smoke. Tally also helps David look for his parents. Another value she shows
is a bad example, she exhibits a non trustworthy person because she tells Dr. Cable all about The
Smoke. She is also not fair due to her giving up The Smoke, that wasn t fair because other people
lived there and they deserved to be happy, even though she did it by accident. Those are the main traits

Living a Distracted Life with Attention Deficit Disorder
It is true that people with Attention Deficit Disorder struggle in school or in everyday situations, but
they can adapt and learn ways to use this disability to their advantage. There are many people that are
and can become very successful despite having Attention Deficit Disorder. Explaining attention deficit
disorder is not easy, there is a lot of myths and controversy about this disorder. I know first hand the
struggles and the controversy surrounded by Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.) because it was hard
for me being diagnosed at an adult age. Some people might not believe that it is a true disorder or that
it only affects children, it is real and does actually exist. It is not only just a childhood disorder; it does

A symptom often overlooked called hyperfocus is where one becomes absorbed in tasks that are
stimulating and rewarding. It s more of a coping mechanism used to tune out other chaos. It makes
one lose track of time and neglect what a person is supposed to be doing. Other symptoms along with
inattentiveness are poor organizational skills, very messy, tendency to procrastinate, trouble starting
and finishing projects, chronic lateness forgetting appointments and important deadlines, often loses
or misplaces items, and overestimates or underestimates the time it takes to complete a task. The
second subtype hyperactive includes being restless, feeling agitated, unable to sit still, always
fidgeting, easily bored, having racing thoughts, craves excitement and attention, often acts out for
attention, talking excessively, and doing a million different things at once. The second subtype in
conjunction with hyperactivity also contains impulsivity. These symptoms include trouble inhibiting
behaviors and responses acting before thinking, frequently interrupt conversations or talk over
someone unable to wait ones turn, blurt out answers, thoughts, or rude comments, have addictive
traits, are reckless and spontaneous, are careless about consequences, misbehave in socially

Similarities Between A Doll s House And Oedipus
Tragedies of life is not death but what we let die inside of us while we live. In A Doll House by Henrik
Ibsen and Oedipus The King by Sophocles, the protagonists illustrate flaws in society, self discovery
and fall out. Oedipus lives his entire life in a dark shadow of ignorance, similarly like Nora from A
Doll House. In both plays consist of a downfall with the two main characters due to their action.
Although they are similar these two characters have a difference, which is that Oedipus killed
unknowingly and Nora forged her father s signature to get money. Also it is noticeable that the
mistakes both Nora and Oedipus condemn are virtuous. Each play begins with a huge unintentional
mistake, known as Hamartia.

Their marriage is quite distinct and unequal gender roles. Torvald is the classic male holding the
power in the relationship while Nora is a housewife. Torvald treats Nora as an innocent child/doll. The
reality of the relationship is discovered through the play quite different. Nora in fact actually puts the
money with taking risks which in this case, she put the money to treat Torvald s illness. Torvald is in
love with an illusion of Nora while Nora herself has never really seen how Torvald is than a romantic
man rather than a practical, self centered and unromantic businessman. In Oedipus the King. Jocasta
and Oedipus have a happy marriage but unknowingly unpleasant since both are mother and son. They
have four children together. Jocasta supports Oedipus to believe that he did not kill Laois the king and
married his mother. However, Jocasta in the beginning of the play she supports Laios her first husband
to get rid off Oedipus. Through the play Jocasta is selfish and ends up killing herself. In both plays
both marriages end up separating. Nora and Jocasta had the idea in killing themselves to run away
from their problems. Only Jocasta archives to die not

What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window
I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1954.
Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub genre
suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock s highly inspired
audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated.
Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the
film.
The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel
chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his
neighbor s room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what s
happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs
watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance
with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of
dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long
shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and
sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front
of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock
Editing shouldn t be in terms of cutting but rather in terms of assembly or Mosaic (Hitchcok, 1963,
p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections
of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot
another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock s way of thinking. The voyeurism
practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

Living Conditions During Ww2
Several conditions in the Nazi concentration camps and work camps made it very hard for children to
survive. The camps were tremendously ruthless. The epidemics that broke out in the camps, including
the awful living conditions were very diverse mainly during the years that the camps operated. They
were also uniquely contrasting in each different camp. Whereas many other conditions such as,
executions, hard labor, etc. had a great effect of death of the children, some conditions were worse
than others causing the children to pass away real quick. Medical experiments and living conditions
had the greatest effect of death of children in the Nazi work camps during WWII. Not only were the
children involuntarily used for medical experiments they were also forced to live in brutal living
conditions.
Children died very easily because of how they were being treated. They became very weak. They were
not fed the right amount of calories and were not treated properly. Feeding the prisoners in the
concentration camps was a big issue during the holocaust. The Jewish prisoners were fed three times
thought the day which was spread out evenly between the morning, noon and evening. It wasn t
always the amount of food given to the prisoners daily that was the issue, sometimes is was just the
way they fed them. When the Nazis would feed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Body Image And Self-Esteem
The media puts a copious amount of pressure on young girls (ages 14 18) today to have the ideal body,
like a model or a celebrity. The media has some damaging impact when it comes to body image and
self esteem as it glorifies unattainable ideals. Young girls can suffer from eating disorders, mental
depression, and physical depression (Von. 2012). Sexualization is the act, result, or process of
attributing sex to something, turning it into a sexual object (2012). Examples of sexualization is young
girls in beauty pageants wearing heavy make up, bikinis and high heels. Another example of
sexualization is dolls that young girls play with have a feature sexualized set of clothing (Dewar,
2012). Even though there are many advertising and celebrities ... Show more content on

On 10th July 2000, in a city in Central Germany, a child was found dead in the apartment of a 20 year old woman during an enforced eviction due to a lack of payments of rent. F. canicularis showed a delay of initial colonization of 3 10 days post mortem and it is strongly attracted to both urine and feces. M. stabulans is strongly attracted to human faeces but lesser to corpses. Conditions were found to be quite similar for an estimation of a post mortem interval of between 7 21 days, most likely around 14 days that is on 27th June 2000. There are no visible brush strokes as a result of the painter s attention to detail. The three main figures and the drapes of the tent form a triangle. Judith s face is the most illuminated and defined making her the central focus of the painting. The other woman in profile in the painting is facing her adds to this effect. The former religion of the Romans was polytheism based and could not give comfort to the destitute. The many Gods and Goddesses did not lend themselves to the idea of equality and salvation. Christianity proclaimed the equality of all people. People were considered equal in Christianity and the Christian God was the unquestioned authority. This God did not share a pantheon with others, he was the one and only. The new religion rejected the existing social system of slavery, and thus gave rise to hope of liberation from oppression of the most desperate people. The religion called for the reconstruction of the world. It gave hope to slaves, hope for freedom to common people through a simple and accessible way through the adoption of the doctrine of Christ (Adair, 2008, pp.18 19). Initially, Christianity spread among the Jews of Palestine and the Mediterranean diaspora of the Jews. But starting from the first decades, especially through the work of the Apostle Paul, it has acquired a large number of followers among other nations (Adair, 2008, p.19). • 6. Decision Making Process At Southwest Airlines Part E: Cost, Profit, and Investment Center Decision making The decision making process at Southwest Airlines is decentralized whereby the decision making authority is delegated to lower level managers and employees. This is based on the idea that managers at the lower level have a better understanding of local factors and conditions hence are better positioned to make decisions than the senior management. The airline understands the need for empowering employees and the impact this empowerment has on the company. For instance, when the airline wanted to refurbish its employee s uniform, instead of hiring someone outside the company, the airline invited all employees who had suggestions about the new uniform to apply. The employees who were selected for this process met every two weeks to discuss the design of the new uniforms (Thomas, 2016). For Southwest Airlines, incorporating employee input in the decision making process creates a more authentic brand. For instance, the involvement of employees in the uniform design made the employees take pride in being part of the airline. The decentralized decision making approach makes it possible for Southwest Airlines to bring employees from different departments and various cities to interact with each other and build a cohesive workplace. In addition, employee involvement in the decision making process at the company makes employees to feel more motivated and loyal to the company. Performance evaluation Southwest Airlines uses ... The research question the group asks is, Do supplemental software and technologies help English as a Second Language (ESL) and English Language Learner (ELL) students in both short and long term ways? Our target population for this study is college students that are ELLs. Finding participants is one part of the study, but since we are researching students on a college campus they will have to be at least 18 to 30 years old to participate in the study. UMKC has a very large and diverse campus; we will reach out to the Applied Language Institute (ALI) students through a class survey. We decided that college would be a better population to start out with because it provides many social opportunities. We are looking for a population that will provide us with direct feedback from the trial. Students in college will know how they learn and be able to explain how technology either helped them or hurt them while learning. Having students participate on campus also ensures that they have access to internet and WiFi. We are aware that there are many limitations that face college students, but there are also benefits to choosing students in college. Sample The participants in the study range from 18 to 30 years old. We did not specify what year we are looking for in college. We just wanted to have adults participate. Her experience with this beautiful, otherworldly object is a door that allows her to see this as part of the beauty in the world. Eventually, slavery became abundant in places where it was most necessary and died out in the places where it was of little use. In response, most free African Americans and enslaved African Americans took action against their maltreatment by petitions and willingness to fight. The first trend of declining slavery was visible from the first declared emancipation of slaves by Lord Dunmore in November of 1775. By granting freedom to all slaves who would raise arms against the American rebels, Lord Dunmore hoped to bring more troops into his ranks in Virginia. This movement continued following the ... However, by 1830 most of the Northern states were areas either without any slaves or less than 10 percent. In contrast, the majority of Southern states had a slave population between 10 and 50 percent. This slave populous area extended along the Southern coasts as well as deep into Kentucky and Tennessee. The changes in slave density between 1790 and 1830 directly relate to areas were slave labor was an economic necessity. African Americans in separate situations often shared similar opinions concerning slavery and freedom. Although many blacks, both freed and enslaved, were willing to speak out against slavery and petition their rights, they did so in varying degrees. In one instance, a slave politely requested that his owner grant him the right to purchase his freedom. Another slave, Gabriel Prosser, took a more extreme approach to gaining his freedom. Friedrich Nietzsche creates an overarching view of existence in which individuals are responsible for their own lives, subsequently creating their own realities. • 14. The Concept Of Time In Roberto Bolano s Amulet Time is a wonderful part of the world and our lives. Time allows us to learn, grow, make memories, feel emotions, teach, and meet new people, just to name a few. Sometimes, we may not think we have enough time for our various goals because of numerous distractions. The concept of time can be hard to understand because it is a cycle but something we cannot return or get back. In Amulet, time plays a large factor in the way that Auxilio tells her story. The character Auxilio in the book Amulet, is a unique character who is engulfed in the writing and poetry of Mexico. She calls herself the mother of poetry because of all the ties she has with the various artists in Mexico including Arturo Belano (Roberto Bolano s alter ego in the book). Amulet describes her experiences with these artists over the course of the book as she tries to find herself , find her meaning in life. Time plays a very large role in how she depicts this story and how she describes her relationships with these writers. The unit of time is a part of the setting in the story. It helps describe the era and provides context for the reader. Setting is very important to a good story, therefore so is time. Roberto Bolano understood this, which is why he uses the word time , in multiple variations, 175 times over the course of Amulet.
