Isis In A Containable Prison Case Study
Kaitlyn,
Comment: I think that you did a nice job and have a solid argument, in a perfect world I believe that
this is what we should do. But because individual countries are stubborn an International Court may
not have authority. This raises some questions that I have for you, although I do agree with what you
said I also think that the likelihood of an International Court being corporative is not realistic.
Question: How do you plan on containing all of ISIS in a containable prison after the shut down of
Alcatraz? There is no prison on US soil that can hold the amount of high profile criminals. Also how
are you planning on arresting all of the criminals incorporated in ISIS and transporting them to the
United States? Going off of what

Stroop Effect Essay
An Examination of the Stroop Effect among College Students

An Examination of the Stroop Effect among College Students The Stroop experiment by J. Ridley
Stroop in 1935 was performed in order to analyze the reaction time of participant s stimuli and desired
results while also obtaining a collective result of color interference and word reading(Stroop, 1935;
Lee Chan, 2000). In the experiment three forms of the test were given, the first consisting of color
patches, the second had the color words printed in black and the other was an incongruent test
beaming the color did not match the color word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However in regards to general results between both genders it was shown that no definite statistical
mean yielded notable results (Alansari Baroun, 2004). Stroop (1935) also showed that women college
students also showed a difference when compared to the men and tended to have higher word reading
results, but in regards to the genders showed no significant differentiation between both at the
cognitive level. Alansari and Baroun (2004) had participants state whether they were color blind,
dyslexic, or if they had previously ever taken the Stroop test before, it was important that these
interferences were factored out in order to obtain a conclusive observation in regards to all the
participants involved in the experiment. MacLeod (1991) had suggested that those with disabilities
tended to show high Stroop interference, also along with those with an attention deficit disorder since
maintaining concentration throughout the experiment and test is an important factor in obtaining more
accurate results without a significant outlier. Also different levels of interference where shown in
children and adults, it was also observed that interference began at an early age, declined in the adult
years since most have a peak of cognitive development and understanding in adult years, but once
again increased interference around the age of 60 (MacLeod,

The Theories of Freud and Jung
1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which
Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or
less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in
unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for
homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general
are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as
kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual
fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly
compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud
goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with
an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps
even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of
the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all
directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most
obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in

Insulin Resistance In Horses
Each year about 340 horses die due to effects of insulin resistance. That is almost half the deaths
caused by horse racing. If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar
feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious life
threatening conditions. In horses that don t suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s it wouldn t be
as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life threatening and fatal
for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s. Insulin Resistance, Cushings,
and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many experts are still gaining an
understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisol are major factors not only in Insulin Resistance (IR)
and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to link the two diseases to
Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and ... Show more content on

The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the
insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the
pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the
equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in the
skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy derived
data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson). Some experts
also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased cortisol
secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and ponies
affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in cortisol

Jonathan Haidt s Hard Times
In the book Hard Times (1856/1995), by Charles Dickens, the citizens of Coketown are faced with
moral situations. The characters have caused emotional harm to others or themselves due to their
decisions. Most of the replies to these moral dilemmas are based on how selfish or selfless these
characters. They can only choose between the choices that value the other people or value themselves.
Two characters that make these decisions are Stephen, a worker at the Hand in Coketown, and Louisa,
the daughter of a teacher in the town. Some of their choices may seem questionable to others. But
most of them can be explained in Jonathan Haidt s book The Righteous Mind. In his book, Haidt
explains about the six moral foundations, two of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Us humans are selectively fair to those that have a positive relationship with us and those who have a
negative relationship towards us are known as cheaters.
Cheating
The association between Stephen and his wife is a solid example of the cheating rudiment. He is
making dishonest choices because he does not have a healthy relationship with his wife anymore.
After meeting an old woman, Stephen started thinking about Racheal: He thought of the number of
girls and women she had seen marry...how she had contentedly pursued her own lone quite path for
him. (p.82) When we love someone, we tend to think often about the person we have feelings for. He
is cheating on his wife because he is fantasizing about Racheal instead of his current wife. Later, his
wife was about to drink poison until Racheal came to save her from it. Before drinking the poison,
Stephen s wife passes Stephen, who appears to be asleep. But it turned out that All this time, as if a
spell were on him, he was motionless and powerless, except to watch her. Stephen wasn t asleep.
Rather than saving her from accidentally poisoning, Stephen decided to do nothing but watch her fall
into her death. This is cheating because he would rather have her dead than preventing him from
having a marriage with Racheal. He would sacrifice her only for his satisfaction. Before this event,
Stephen tells Mr. Bounderby that his relationship goes From bad to worse, from worse to worsen. She

Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov and the Cherenkov Effect
The 1958 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, Ilya Frank and Igor
Tamm for the discovery and the interpretation of the Cherenkov Effect. Cherenkov radiation is the
electromagnetic radiation emitted by particles moving through a medium faster than the speed of light
in the same medium. It was fist a detected by Soviet scientist Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, of who
the effect is named after and a theory was later developed by Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm. Cherenkov s
contributions still live on as an invaluable tool in today s nuclear and subatomic particle physics with
examples that include a way to detect and quantify the characteristics of subatomic particles to
analyzing high energy cosmic signals from the deepest regions of space. More down to earth uses
consist of safety procedures for nuclear reactors and the detection of low concentration biomolecules
in the sick and elderly.
Despite the underprivileged life as the child of Russian peasants, Pavel Cherenkov was able to
graduate from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Voronezh State University in 1928 and went
onto a post graduate course at the Academy of Science in St. Petersburg. His work in physics soon
promoted him to a senior scientific officer at the P.N. Lebedev Institute, more commonly known as the
physics branch of the Academy of Science in Moscow. It was here at the Academy in 1932, that an

The Strengths Of Sita In Ramayana
Traditionally, a woman has been called abala . In Sanskrit and many other Indian languages bala
means strength and abala means one without strength. If by strength we do not mean brutish strength,
but strength of character, steadfastness, endurance, she should be called sabala , strong. When a
woman, whom we call abala , becomes sabala , all those who are helpless will become powerful. Such
empowering may not be bestowed upon them by legislation or assistance only offered by men. The
women who think of themselves as weak must gather strength to survive with self esteem. In all
branches of folk literature and Bengali literature, we see that the Bengali women are abala , helpless,
deprived of their basic rights and tortured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the voice against all forms of discriminatory issues regarding men and women. It may be stated here
that though Rokeya s dream is unflinching and time winning, many instances in South
Asia especially in Bangladesh augment depression. We may refer to the harrowing story of Arzina
who became the victim of the claws of her husband. The story was published in The Daily Star on 6
August 2008:
Her husband, Kamruzzaman Kamu, who teaches at a college, set fire to Arzina chasing in the kitchen
and locked the room to ensure death. Before being freed with the help of neighbors, she had already
57% burns of her body. Suffering serious burns in her face, breast, abdomen, both arms, back and part
of thighs and struggling for life at DMCH, Arzina, a master in Geography from Rajshahi College who
passed the 27 th BCS exams in 2007, turned a victim of a beast incarnate. (Ashraf and Mollah 16)
As Arzina raised her voice against her husband s adultery, she had to face a holocaust like this. Arzina

Essay about Leonard Peltier Should be Released from Prison
Leonard Peltier is currently serving time in the Leavenworth federal penitentiary for the shooting
deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents. According to FBI documents, at around
11:50 A.M. on June 26th, 1975, agents Jack Color and Ron Williams were supposedly searching for
Jimmy Eagle, a thief wanted for stealing a pair of cowboy boots. The agents encroached on the
Jumping Bull Compound in Oglala, South Dakota of the Pine Ridge reservation, in two separate
vehicles that no one could recognize (Incident). In this area, there were several members of the
American Indian Movement (AIM). After the intrusion of the agents, someone and it is unsure who

In fact, the evidence is so inconclusive, contradictory, and vague that reasonable doubt abounds when
one tries to objectively look at the evidence at hand.
The evidence linking Peltier to the shooting of the either of the agents is non existent. First, there are
major problems with linking Peltier to any gun that may have caused a fatal injury. According to FBI
documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist,
Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975
(Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell
casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars.
However, according to a documented FBI ballistics test carried out on October 12, 1975, the AR 15
rifle found in Robideau s car didn t match bullet found on the scene; even if it is assumed to be Peltier
s gun, the gun cannot be linked to any bullets found in the crime scene (Incident). The FBI also did
another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the
damaged gun. (Incident) However, since the second method of testing was more prone to fault, error,
and interpretation of the agents, it should not be used in light of the first. The best the FBI could prove
from the test was that the bullet came from

Ankle Sprains Research Paper
Ankle Sprains
A sprained ankle, also known as a twisted ankle or rolled ankle, is a common injury where sprain
occur on one or more ligaments of the ankle. Knowing the symptoms that can be experienced with a
sprain is important in determining that the injury is not really a break in the bone.
Symptoms
When a sprain occurs, blood vessels will leak fluid into the tissue that surrounds the joint. White blood
cells responsible for inflammation migrate to the area, and blood flow increases as well. Along with
this inflammation, swelling from the fluid and pain is experienced. The nerves in the area become
more sensitive when the injury is suffered, so pain is felt as throbbing and will worsen if there is
pressure placed on the area. Warmth and

Computer programming is currently one of the fastest growing careers. I enjoy spending time sitting
alone and looking at a computer. I would like a career that uses my greatest strengths to my advantage.
As a computer programmer, I can do what I enjoy for the money. This paper will explore the job
description, requirements and salary expectation for a computer programmer. To begin with, the job
description for a computer programmer includes many components. Occupational Handbook, states
that computer programmers write programs in many different computer languages. They also update
or expand existing programs. As well they have to test programs for errors and fix the program if they
find any (Occupational Handbook). Campus explored, claims ... Show more content on

Occupational Handbook notes that the lowest that a computer programmer could get paid is 44
thousand dollars. While the most that a computer programmer can get paid is around 127 thousand
dollars (Occupational Handbook). Pay Scale state that the more work experience in computer
programming the more you will get paid. They also say that the location you work at will also
determine how much you will get paid (Pay Scale). I think that not much goes into how much you get
paid as a computer programmer. I feel that I could make a living as a computer programmer. I know
that computer programmers can make a lot of money depending on where you work and how much
experience you have. In summary, you should consider the salary when you are looking for a career.
In conclusion, you should consider the job description, job requirements, and salary expectations if
you want to become a computer programmer. Firstly I believe this would be a good career for me is
because I like to do my work alone. My second reason is that I can concentrate for long periods of
time. My final reason would be because I can catch little mistakes in code. With how fast computer
programming is growing it would be easy to get a

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion
Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by
the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s
opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of
ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973.
People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay
legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with
her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade
on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s
decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain
when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetus s brain starts to structure between the 7th
and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive pain. This is far past the time
when an abortion is carried out. So technically, the baby can t feel anything at the time of the ... Show

These children who aren t properly cared for often end up committing crimes or getting involved with

How Did Walt Disney Impact Society
Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about the impact Walt Disney has left on society and how
his legacy continues on.
Thesis/Central Idea: To understand the impact Walt Disney has left on society, it is important to learn
that his empire all started with a mouse, how his newfound success contributed to his ability to create
accomplished film works, and eventually bring his imagination to life through the construction of
Disney parks.
Organizational Pattern: Topical
I. Introduction
A. Attention Getter: Walt Disney once said all of our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to
pursue them. Walt persevered in order to become the icon he is today. He was a self starter and had the
dream of using his artistic talent to create wholesome entertainment the whole family can enjoy, and to
bring happiness and imagination into peoples lives. He is living proof that if you don t give up on your
dreams you have the ability to make something happen.
B. Relevance: There is no escaping Disney. Whether or not you have realized it, Disney has influenced
you in some way whether it be by the movies, or the imagination and make believe. I m sure some of
you dressed up as princesses, pretended to duel each other as pirates, or played make believe. Even
after Walt s death, his company is still producing animated and live action films and overseeing the
still growing empire. Today s children are evidence of a lasting legacy through his parks, movies, and

Eliot s Poetry Of A Divided Mind
Lips that would kiss | Form prayers to broken stone. To what extent and in what ways is Eliot s poetry
testament to a divided mind?
W.B. Yeats famously said that poetry was born from a quarrel with ourselves, and Faulkner later added
in his Nobel Prize Speech that good writing comes only from the problems of the human heart in
conflict with itself. These insights are no more apt than when applied to the poetry of T.S. Eliot.
Exploding onto the poetic scene in 1915, Eliot and his friend Ezra Pound were at the forefront of the
modernist movement. They reacted strongly against the traditional techniques of the Georgians and
others who came before them, who seemed to the modernists to be attempting to represent the modern
world in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his essay Tradition and the Individual Talent (1919) Eliot controversially argues that The emotion
of art is impersonal, and claims: Impressions and experiences which are important for the man may
take no place in the poetry. And yet, ironically, his poetry is littered with impressions and experiences
that were important to him: the similarities between Emily Hale and the lady in Portrait of a Lady; the
references to his friend Jean Verdenal in The Waste Land; and the later reference to Margate Sands,
where Russell and Eliot s wife went on holiday, all demonstrate the personal nature of Eliot s verse.
Furthermore, Eliot later admitted that he was somewhat obnoxious in his earlier essays. He writes
about Dante s work that we cannot afford to ignore Dante s philosophical and theological beliefs.
Thus, we can infer that the beliefs and the quarrels within Eliot s poems are beliefs and quarrels that
he felt within himself.
In Eliot s first poems, his mind seems to be focused largely on the conflict between a romantic and a
realist view of life, if by romanticism we mean the hope of something better. Influenced by the anti
romantic teachings of Irving Babbitt, a Professor at Harvard, Eliot s secular poems explore the
possibility of a romantic or idealist worldview, which is then denied. The Love Song of J. Alfred
Prufrock is a perfect example, and indeed the you and I of the first line can be interpreted as the two
dimensions of Prufrock s character, the

An Analysis Of Lies In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman

Everyone can relate to the desire to embellish their own life. Whether it be from the hopes of a better

would love to pretend to have the success they ve hoped for. In Arthur Miller s a play, The Death of a

to construct dynamic characters. Willy Lohman, the protagonist in Miller s play, is struggling with

German Schools Vs American Schools
American schools and German schools have many differences.
In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels.
They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what language
they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions about what
interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they do not care for
it.
German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of their
own interests in the classroom. German students learn many of the same basics as American students,
but their education paths diverge earlier than students in the US. Starting in

Kurt Voyer Defined The Psychology Of Teamwork
Benjamin Voyer defined the psychology of teamwork in the article. The study of teamwork was
originated with the development of social psychology and interest on how groups behave,
predominantly as against another group. There were two groups that were discussed in the article that
contributed to the study of teamwork. The first group is in group as described as being a member of a
group who share a particular interest or activity and defines who you are. The second group was
described as a group outside one s own with which one feels no sense of identity. This second group is
termed as out group . Hellen Keller s cliché enunciates that we can do so little if we are alone and we
can do so much if we will work as a team.
According to the writer, things can go wrong because power plays a big role in a team. In health care
for example, quality and safety are the two big priorities. However, flaws still arise. Typically, the
complications arise because of the problems in the team, not with the people s ability. There was a
situation wherein a misunderstanding between the surgeon and the assistant was narrated in the article.
There was a misunderstanding due to the fact that the surgeon had just transferred from the other team.
It simply tells us that teamwork was not applied in this situation. The author gave emphasis on the
importance of developing a team mind. The three C s were stated in the article pertaining to
teamwork. One of which is collaboration that

Within Educating Rita it could be argued that Russell is trying to depict an aspect of conflict within
class and culture in the UK the play itself being in the context of the country during the 1980 s where
the rise of Thatcherism grasped many industrialised areas of Britain, thus Russell attempts to depict
the importance of education with in this era to those who wanted to escape from the lower end of the
social scale. This directly affects one of the two characters in the play, Rita. Who due to a working
class background feels held back in life; bringing us to the rising action within the play. Willy Russell

Furthermore Russell begins to explore the development of Rita s education in the play this can be seen
in Act 1 scene 6, here Frank has invited Rita to a dinner party however she did not attend said
arrangement due to Rita s lack of confidence in herself as a modern, upper class woman and this
causes Frank to doubt her will power especially in her studies and education. This uncertainty within
her self exhibits the still existing class divide between the two characters and can be seen where Rita
begins to briefly explain her reasons for not coming along to Franks dinner however when she
elaborates it becomes clear there is still a clash of cultures in their lifestyles and Russell depicts this
through means of a pun; It was Spanish This brings across the idea that Rita feels, despite her best
efforts at becoming an educated woman, she is ultimately reverting back to her looming social status
which Frank doesn t believe is holding her back but is an image of her underlying character which he
finds so individual and makes her an interesting woman. Russell used the dinner party almost
symbolically to resemble the threshold at which Rita currently stands at despite all of this newly found
intelligence she still cannot dwell with those who have possessed this knowledge for a significantly

Analysis Of F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Roaring Twenties
F. Scott Fitzgerald one of the most celebrated writers of all times . (Mini Bio)Through his novels or
short stories, he was able to reveal the secrets of himself that carried out his destiny. The Roaring
Twenties were surrounded by luxurious lifestyles that a small town boy could only dream of.
Fitzgerald recognized this and craved that lifestyle and when he came upon it, he realized it was not
all that he had dreamed it would be, for wealth was not the problem solver.
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born in a family of a failed business man which caused many moves

Britain took this as an insult. The British had felt as though this was a destruction of private property
and that it created a large loss of revenue for them. But it must be taken into consideration the fact that
Lin had demanded the halt of the product as he claimed that it was a harmful, addictive drug and
Britain was unwilling to comply. As well the British government new this was an illegal substance in
China and the selling of it would be involved with piracy and smuggling, but went along with it
anyhow. [10] Of course Lin had been a man of morale s and didn t take suspect that an entire
government would have been supporting an illegal activity. However it was obvious that war was the
inevitable outcome following this incident, thus the begging of the Opium Wars. The British then sent
a small fleet of ships from India, which would occupy Shanghai, and penetrated deeper into China

The Importance Of A Management Information System
A management information system is a computerized method of improving the efficiency of the daily
activities of businesses as well as improving the decision making process. A management information
system can show the status of a business conditions and whether or not these conditions are improving
or not. The decision making process can only be effective if the information is updated regularly by
those with authority to access this information.
There are very few management information systems that actually work effectively, most not even
meeting expectations. Many management information systems are designed under the basis that
managers have a lack of relevant information, while actually they are receiving too much irrelevant ...

However, even when given perfect information there are too many variables for even an experienced
individual to give an optimal solution for the problem or objective at hand. Therefore, to be
successful, you must determine how well managers are able to use the information that they are given.
There are a couple more reasons why MIS tend to fail and meet the expectations of the managers that
are using them. One of these reasons is interdepartmental communication. The author of this specific
article believes that when MIS provide up to date information on what each department in a business
is doing, it negatively affects the performance of the business, contrary to what most believe. This was
implemented into MIS because designers thought that with interdepartmental communication,
decisions can be made more effectively and efficiently, which does sound right at first. However the
author, gives an example of how this system is ineffective and should be abandoned. He mentions a
real life example involving a merchandising department and a purchasing department in a store. The
merchandising department gives the purchasing department an exact figure on how many items they
should buy to be re sold to consumers, based off of a price demand curve. The purchasing department
being slightly pessimistic and not wanting to pay as much for the merchandise orders a fewer number
of items than what the

The For The American Education System
Traci is a student in the fall semester in Tyler Junior college. She is from India and still very new to
the American Education System. English is not her first language, but she is extremely grateful going
to college in America and having her childhood dream come true. After all, her green card is still in
process and she is unable to get a job or get any kind of funds to help her with her education. She has
to pay for all her expenses out of her pocket, which is very difficult, given her current financial
situation. Fortunately, Tyler Junior college offers an installment tuition fees, which helps students like
Traci to go to college. She depends on the library for the reserve textbooks without having to buy her
own.
During the first week of the school, two professors had given her assignments to read a chapter before
she came to the next class. That day, she had a couple of hours before she headed out to volunteer
work that she signed up for at church, so she decided to go to the library after class and finish the
assignments. She went to the front desk at the library, and asked for the two reserved textbooks. The
person behind the desk, informed Traci, that students are allowed to check out one book at a time. Fair
enough she thought, and she checked out a text book, found an empty table, sat down, and opened up
the chapter that she wanted to read. Guess what? Her jaw dropped, because that chapter had 32 pages.
It may not be a lot for many students, but knowing that

Population has Outgrown the Food Growth
In this paper, I brainstorm and develop certain topics that I find interesting and novel to pursue in
future research. I write about two separate topics, one being theoretical, and the other empirical. In the
first section, I propose an extension of the classical Malthusian model of economic growth by
introducing different specification for birth and death rate income elasticities. I solve for the steady
state parameter values and offer directions for future model development where land is not a fixed
factor of production. In the second section, I conduct an empirical time series analysis of the impact
democracy levels have on the total factor productivity (TFP) for the case of Thailand. As the next step,
I propose that this study be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From VoigtlÀnder and Voth (2009), again I borrow the population growth rate function: where is
subsistence level of food production, and and are income elasticities of birth and death rates,
respectively. Observe that, unlike in VoigtlÀnder and Voth (2009), here I model population growth rate
as a function of consumption. Although I take income elasticities as exogenous constants in this paper
(for reasons that will become obvious later on), in its next iteration I propose that these elasticities be
functions of food consumption. It is reasonable to assume that birth rates are increasing in
consumption; however, the proportional rise in birth rates with respect to levels of consumption
cannot realistically be constant over the long run, as is in VoigtlÀnder and Voth (2009). Similarly,
while it is prudent to assume that death rates drop as food consumption increases, it is expected that
eventually the proportional drop in death rates will decrease in consumption. That is, when food is
scarce and famine is present, even small increases in food consumption can lower death rates
significantly (especially true for infants and small children). As per capita consumption reaches more
satisfactory levels, food becomes less significant in determining mortality, and some other factors,
such as diseases and genetics, take over. Therefore, it could be justifiable to model both and as

Horticulture Personal Statement
My interest in participating as a horticulture intern at The Polly Hill Arboretum is interwoven in my
desire to acquire hands on experience with plant material and expand my knowledge on what it takes
to manage and maintain an Arboretum. Polly Hill s devotion to education, plant conservation, and
research resonates with my personal and educational experiences as a native New Yorker and
Landscape Architecture major at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The practice
of horticulture is fundamental in sustaining beautiful landscapes and I wish to develop that notion
through landscape maintenance and greenhouse/nursery management.

1. What is CSX s motive for buying Conrail? Synergy effect with lower cost
The merged company could consolidate overlapping operations and reduce cost.
CSX estimated that cost reduction would yield an additional $370 million in annual operating income
by the year 2000, net of merger costs.
Expansion of market share by extending railroad network
Railroad industry is a mature market. The only option to grow is through acquisitions. In 1995,
Conrail owned 29.4% of the Eastern rail freight market, and near monopoly control over Northeast.
After merge, it would create the 2nd largest rail system in the U.S., as well as the largest rail system

CSX offers to buy the first 40% of Conrail s acquisition shares at $92.50 per share, and exchange
shares in the ratio of 1.85619:1.0 for the remaining 60%. Before the announcement day, Conrail s
stock price was $71. CSX is paying a much higher premium, so as to take a controlling interest from
Contrail shareholders, who are expected to sell CSX their shares at $92.50, and also be willing to opt
out of the Pennsylvania statue before CSX could purchase more than 19.9% of the shares.
b. Choose any one of the various provisions in the merger agreement and explain the economic
rationale for it and its implications for takeovers.
One provision of the merger agreement is the no talk clause, which forbids Conrail from pursuing
merger discussions with any other party for a period of six months. This essentially forbids Conrail
from soliciting other bids. yet if another offer did emerge, the Conrail board could consider the bid
and possibly terminate its merger agreement with CSX under a number of conditions.
From economics perspective, once the target signs an agreement, if the target could still discuss with
other party or provide confidential information to them, the other party who might be interested could
raise a competing bid, and particularly aiming to beat current s buyer s bid. This provision reduces the
buyer s risk of having a competitor who gets the agreement details or confidential information

Depression In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Stages of Depression: A Psychoanalytic Critique on Life of Okonkwo
When you have depression, nothing is enjoyable. Nothing can make you smile. These words are
described by a person who is currently battling depression. While reading the novel Things Fall Apart,
a psychoanalytic critic would most likely focus on the mental state of characters vital to the story, such
as Okonkwo (the protagonist of the novel) and his assumed depression. Depression affects 350 million
people globally today, and while not much was known about mental illness in 1880 s society, it clearly
manifested itself in the novel s African setting due to many factors, as illustrated by Okonkwo s life.

While many would expect a stereotypical story where the main character is well loved and overcomes
a challenge to become successful with a sort of revelation, Achebe breaks this stereotype and points
out the flaws in real world society. Depression is a hot topic to discuss to this day, attracting audiences
of all sorts. Okonkwo s suicide was that of a tragic hero s journey come to an end, thus proving the
consequences of fighting back and eventually failing. In popular culture, many well known celebrities
have various mental illnesses partly because of the expectations placed upon them and fear of losing
their perfect image. Okonkwo was a sort of celebrity in his Nigerian village, and with all of his power
and glory he gained throughout his life and in the novel, the stress and responsibility of being a true
man took its toll on him. Depression doesn t just manifest itself in the mind because of unfortunate
situations; even though Achebe did focus mainly on tragic events leading to mental illness.
Environment, culture, and relationships can all contribute to the mental illness we know as depression,
an illness that has affected people all over the world since the beginning of

RFID chips are found in lots of things we use every day, credit cards, pet trackers, to everyday phones,
also connecting with phone apps. Even creepier, the microchip is also found in the technology that is
currently at Disney World s MagicBand, which tracks a wearer s location within the park and connects
to that person s accounts for the parks amusement rides. One fact about the RFID microchip is that it
was not the first microchip to be approved. A company called VeriChip actually got approved by the
FDA to market an implant back in 2004. The implant was designed to carry a unique ID number that
hospitals could use to pull up a patient s medical records if he or she were unconscious; however, the
chip was discontinued in 2010 over privacy concerns with HIPPA. Even if the microchip is roughly
the shape and size of a grain of rice and works like a tiny computer, even the tiny computer can catch
a virus just as a regular computer today can. The chances of identity theft becoming more and more
common will increase dramatically. Also with a microchip being so small and fragile it would make it
easier for damaged, even more so for those who have jobs that require hands on. Our number rule in
the medical field is the patient s privacy; with the microchip approved it will only make it our number

The Role Of Economic Development As Measured Through Levels
Gender inequality has been and is still a problem being faced worldwide. It has inhibited the social,
economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world
countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education, culture,
religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly, economic
development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic development as
measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender empowerment in a
country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding gender empowerment it
is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased economic development
will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three literature reviews will
demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality, Income, and Growth: Are
Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a cumulated work that was
published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group. Dollar and Roberti addressed
three specific questions that they felt were strong factors in the implications economic development
brought upon gender empowerment. The questions were constructed in efforts to respond to the
macroeconomic data revealed through its answers. The questions are: 1. Is lower investment in girls
education simply an efficient economic

The Progressive Republican Views Of The State After World...
Born in Los Angeles, California on March 19,1891, raised in Bakersfield, California and attended UC

California in his three terms as Governor. Being modest and a realist, were key components in Earl
Warren s success. Although many may have disagreed with Earl Warren s leadership, he made
profound impacts on California by shaping the state after World War II, taking on controversial issues
and bringing lasting changes to California.
The profound impacts he made on shaping California after World War II begun during his time as
California s Attorney General and continued with him into his Governorship. With World War II
ending California would continue to experience an unpredictable expansion socially, economically,
and also set a proactive state government which was led by the Governor during this time of change.
Since California was experiencing a time of expansion, re shaping its post war economy and
continuing thriving programs were crucial. California Progressivism was key behind all of these
movements which ultimately shifted California s role in the nation and gave the sense that the war was
a defining moment in the state s history. A new economy allowed for many of the state s original
industries helped in the post war growth. These industries established themselves during the war
unlike other industries throughout the country, and by doing so helped the state more post war.

International Students Impact
The impact of international students in USA In modern times U.S. colleges and universities have more
international students than ever before. The number of international students in the classrooms has
increased dramatically the past couple of years. When I started classes here in US, I feel as if we, the
foreign students were just more students. I saw it as people coming from different places but not
different thoughts. After I started classes I realized that international students think in another way. We
see things with different perspectives because we come from other cultures. We have a perspective
based on our experience out of the country. Which means, we get to different conclusions. We have
been raised different than people here in U.S.A. They were thought in another way, so we think
different. I realized that, students from other countries can contribute a lot to a country. Not only
economically, international students contribute culturally, as well with making improvements in
institutions and education. They help by making the international relations of the country better.
Outside the classroom, international students have an impact on more than just the education sector.
They help supporting the economic activity, food, transportation, communication and more.
International students have a potential to change methods and content of the education due to their
different perspective. This challenges teachers to improve the process of teaching in class to

Juicer Review
Getting the benefit of fruits produce all at once without the stress of worrying about how well your
body will digest is one of the prime features of Juicing. The art of juicing involves crushing the pulp
of food produce to extract juice and essential phytonutrients. Furthermore, the process of extracting
juice is dependent on the juicer being used; the centrifugal juicers use high spinning blades to crush
pulp and extract juice in seconds while the masticating juicer mimics the chewing and grinding motion
of the mouth to get maximum yield from fruits and vegetables in minutes.

George S. Patton Rhetorical Leadership
Respected by most, yet feared by many, General George S. Patton was one of the most profound
leaders the United States Army has ever had. He took part throughout the Mexican Revolution, World
War One, and dominating the stage throughout World War Two. His career as an officer took stage
shortly after his graduation from The United States Army Military Academy, where he branched as a
cavalry officer (Patton, Wikipedia, 2017). Inpatient and young, he eventually went on his first
deployment as a lieutenant to take part in the battle of San Miguelito. It was in Mexico that Patton met
General John Joseph Pershing, where it is believed that he based a lot of his military leadership styles
on the way Pershing led his troops (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). Through imitating Pershing, George
had some of the most courageous leadership styles known widely throughout, where many praised his
bravery, yet several found him foolish. Following the battle of San Miguelito, Patton was promoted to
Captain and appointed by General Pershing to the head of the new AEF Tank Corps. (Pershing,
Wikipedia, 2017). It was throughout the process of developing the AEF Tank Corps. that I feel Patton
demonstrated his most profound adaptive leadership trait, drive. George Patton was driven in anything
and everything he did for the AEF Tank Corps. He implemented his own ideas, tactics, design,
uniform, and procedures in a way that revolutionized war (PATTON 360, 2015). The United States

The Leadership of Jesus
The Leadership of Jesus
The question of whether leaders are born or can be taught is one that is common in leadership
discussions. My personal opinion is that leaders can be taught, and should be taught by studying the
principles and practices by which our history s most effective leaders led. Furthermore; it is important
to realize that leadership through hierarchies is quickly becoming inferior to leadership through
service and having a joint vision shared by all those affected by this leader. Jesus was such a leader; a
servant leader. Jesus said, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and
whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but

Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man s life does not consist in the abundance of his
possessions (Luke 12:15). Jesus was a strategic and convincing teacher because he offered hope to
those who had none, but made His followers aware of the dangers of putting ourselves and our
possessions ahead of God. Jesus was a great strategist and this can clearly be seen by the vastness of
the movement that he started. From the very beginning, Jesus was committed to training the leaders
who would continue to spread his message long after his death. Jesus realized the importance in
focusing on his disciples and teaching them the very details of his personal values and lifestyle. Jesus
could surely reach more people by sending out his disciples to spread his message, but he also
appointed seventy two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where
he was about to go (Luke 10:1) this was an excellent strategy in order to make people aware of his
arrival. However, it was also a strategy to teach his followers to have confidence in him; he tells them:
he who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him
who sent me and when the seventy two returned and told him, Lord, even the demons submit to us in
your name , Jesus replied, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are

Vanishing Point Paper
Vanishing point was the main focus for this paper, the VP is where the orthogonal lines all meet.
Knowing how to find the VP made me want to choose what I believed to be challenging pictures out
of what was given to us. This being said, I chose Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, Corridor in the Asylum,
Vincent Van Gogh 1889, and L`Europe Geneva Bridge, Gustave Caillebotte 1876. In these three
paintings I not only saw a challenge, but also a neat story that can be conveyed in finding the VP. Gas,
Edward Hopper 1940, is a picture of a man working the gas pump during the day while no one else is

gas pumps. I took the line and pulled it along the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A man and woman are walking over the bridge while a dog is walking toward them, and another man
is gazing out in the water. In this painting I have three orthogonal lines starting with the first one on
the top corner of the building on the left side. This line then follows across the roofline, down through
the man walking s neck, through the woman s skirt. This line then finishes on the cement and ending
on the shadow of the dog. Orthogonal line two starts at the end of the bridge railing on the bottom
right side. The line then continues down the railing, crossing through the old man in green and through
the woman and man walking near each other. This line will end on the building in the left corner and
right above the buggy by finishing on the building. The third and final line starts along the sidewalk
on the bottom left side, leading up the sidewalk and going through the man s coat, head and hat, while
ending on building in the middle of the painting. The vanishing point leads us to the man that s
walking s head while he is looking away at the water. This vanishing point pulls the focus of the
painting on the man and also the women next to him on the bridge. These three pictures all have very
different stories in them, which creates for different vanishing points. In some paintings or drawings it
can be hard to find a vanishing point due to the different time eras of the artists. Overall, the vanishing

The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay
The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP
(National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where thirteen
parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their children to
schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them for the upcoming
school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one of the four schools in
the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved traveling some distance
from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of Education on behalf of their
twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first parent to suit against the problem, so
the case came to be named after his last name. Three local lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott
and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense
and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that Topeka s racial segregation violated the
Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s black and white schools were not equal to
each other and never could be due to the way things were. The federal district court dismissed his
claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were substantially equal enough to be constitutional
under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to the Supreme Court, which made it more effective

Little Ships During The Operation Dynamo
The role played by the Little Ships during the Operation Dynamo has been heavily mythicized by
contemporary accounts of Dunkirk. For instance, a heading in The Times from June 4, 1940 referred
to the civilian vessels at Dunkirk as a Magnificent Spirit . Furthermore, the column noted how
Fishermen, yachtsmen, yacht builders, yacht clubs, river boatmen responded in Britain s time of need
and how the civilian sailors manned their craft with volunteer crews and rushed them to the assembly
point . Similarly, another piece from The Times helped illustrate a sense of mass, spontaneous civilian
participation by making reference to how the only complaints people had about volunteering their
vessels Dunkirk came from boat owners who could not get themselves onboard in time to go to their
boats . Newspapers publishing articles such as the two noted above helped form the public conception
of the Little Ships as a mass armada of selfless volunteers who helped rescue countless Allied troops
and delivered them to British coastal ports. The pinnacle of this fantasifull narrative was Paul Gallico
s short story, The Snow Goose, published in The Saturday Evening Post. Within said novella, the
protagonist narrates a romanticized rendition of the Little Ship story where every tug and fishing boat
or power launch that could propel itself was heading across the Channel ... to rescue as many as
possible from the German fire . The main driving force behind the British Admiralty s decision to

The Last Winter Film Analysis
ABSTRACT
Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards
ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton,
2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that
people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull
subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of
movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or benefits
of environmental change more creatively.
This study will seek to describe one such movie and discuss the different factors, assumptions,
impacts, and scientific accuracies to the same regard. It will also put into consideration the truths,
consequences, and facts that have been portrayed in the movie. The Last Winter, whose release was in
2007, is a movie that explains environmental changes based on global warming. Its effects and shall
discuss it and try to understand the angle that the producer took in conveying the ecological change
message as well as point out whether it provides a solution for the problem so discovered.
FILM PLOT
The Last Winter is a disaster movie, which bases its storyline on global warming as an event that
brings strange events that could not be explained entirely easily. Oil exploration is one of the
significant activities happening in the area as a team of engineers

  • 2. Isis In A Containable Prison Case Study Kaitlyn, Comment: I think that you did a nice job and have a solid argument, in a perfect world I believe that this is what we should do. But because individual countries are stubborn an International Court may not have authority. This raises some questions that I have for you, although I do agree with what you said I also think that the likelihood of an International Court being corporative is not realistic. Question: How do you plan on containing all of ISIS in a containable prison after the shut down of Alcatraz? There is no prison on US soil that can hold the amount of high profile criminals. Also how are you planning on arresting all of the criminals incorporated in ISIS and transporting them to the United States? Going off of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stroop Effect Essay An Examination of the Stroop Effect among College Students Esmeralda Fierro Dixie State University Abstract 250 word summary of the paper One paragraph only Do not indent the paragraph An Examination of the Stroop Effect among College Students The Stroop experiment by J. Ridley Stroop in 1935 was performed in order to analyze the reaction time of participant s stimuli and desired results while also obtaining a collective result of color interference and word reading(Stroop, 1935; Lee Chan, 2000). In the experiment three forms of the test were given, the first consisting of color patches, the second had the color words printed in black and the other was an incongruent test beaming the color did not match the color word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However in regards to general results between both genders it was shown that no definite statistical mean yielded notable results (Alansari Baroun, 2004). Stroop (1935) also showed that women college students also showed a difference when compared to the men and tended to have higher word reading results, but in regards to the genders showed no significant differentiation between both at the cognitive level. Alansari and Baroun (2004) had participants state whether they were color blind, dyslexic, or if they had previously ever taken the Stroop test before, it was important that these interferences were factored out in order to obtain a conclusive observation in regards to all the participants involved in the experiment. MacLeod (1991) had suggested that those with disabilities tended to show high Stroop interference, also along with those with an attention deficit disorder since maintaining concentration throughout the experiment and test is an important factor in obtaining more accurate results without a significant outlier. Also different levels of interference where shown in children and adults, it was also observed that interference began at an early age, declined in the adult years since most have a peak of cognitive development and understanding in adult years, but once again increased interference around the age of 60 (MacLeod, ... • 4. The Theories of Freud and Jung 1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If a horse or pony suffering from Insulin Resistance and they eat high sugar feed, and eat normal, unsoaked hay the large increase in sugar may cause death or lead to serious life threatening conditions. In horses that don t suffer from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s it wouldn t be as great a concern if they got out and ate feed and hay, but thus act becomes life threatening and fatal for horses and ponies suffering from Insulin Resistance and Cushing s. Insulin Resistance, Cushings, and Endocrinopathic Laminitis are all very complex diseases that many experts are still gaining an understanding for. Glucose, insulin, and cortisol are major factors not only in Insulin Resistance (IR) and Cushings (PPID) as individual diseases, but they also serve to link the two diseases to Endocrinopathic Laminitis in addition to each other. Insulin Resistance and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in the skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy derived data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson). Some experts also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased cortisol secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and ponies affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in cortisol levels ... • 6. Jonathan Haidt s Hard Times In the book Hard Times (1856/1995), by Charles Dickens, the citizens of Coketown are faced with moral situations. The characters have caused emotional harm to others or themselves due to their decisions. Most of the replies to these moral dilemmas are based on how selfish or selfless these characters. They can only choose between the choices that value the other people or value themselves. Two characters that make these decisions are Stephen, a worker at the Hand in Coketown, and Louisa, the daughter of a teacher in the town. Some of their choices may seem questionable to others. But most of them can be explained in Jonathan Haidt s book The Righteous Mind. In his book, Haidt explains about the six moral foundations, two of them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Us humans are selectively fair to those that have a positive relationship with us and those who have a negative relationship towards us are known as cheaters. Cheating The association between Stephen and his wife is a solid example of the cheating rudiment. He is making dishonest choices because he does not have a healthy relationship with his wife anymore. After meeting an old woman, Stephen started thinking about Racheal: He thought of the number of girls and women she had seen marry...how she had contentedly pursued her own lone quite path for him. • 7. Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov and the Cherenkov Effect The 1958 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm for the discovery and the interpretation of the Cherenkov Effect. Cherenkov radiation is the electromagnetic radiation emitted by particles moving through a medium faster than the speed of light in the same medium. It was fist a detected by Soviet scientist Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, of who the effect is named after and a theory was later developed by Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm. Cherenkov s contributions still live on as an invaluable tool in today s nuclear and subatomic particle physics with examples that include a way to detect and quantify the characteristics of subatomic particles to analyzing high energy cosmic signals from the deepest regions of space. More down to earth uses consist of safety procedures for nuclear reactors and the detection of low concentration biomolecules in the sick and elderly. Despite the underprivileged life as the child of Russian peasants, Pavel Cherenkov was able to graduate from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Voronezh State University in 1928 and went onto a post graduate course at the Academy of Science in St. Petersburg. His work in physics soon promoted him to a senior scientific officer at the P.N. Lebedev Institute, more commonly known as the physics branch of the Academy of Science in Moscow. According to FBI documentation, the FBI found a damaged AR 15 rifle in the burned out car of another AIM activist, Robert Robideau, who was also at the Jumping Bull Compound on the day of June 26, 1975 (Incident). The FBI later would assert that the gun was Peltier s, and that it was matched to a shell casing found in the trunk of one the agents cars. The FBI also did another, less effective form of test on the bullet that showed that the bullet might have come from the damaged gun. Yeats famously said that poetry was born from a quarrel with ourselves, and Faulkner later added in his Nobel Prize Speech that good writing comes only from the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself. These insights are no more apt than when applied to the poetry of T.S. Eliot. Exploding onto the poetic scene in 1915, Eliot and his friend Ezra Pound were at the forefront of the modernist movement. They reacted strongly against the traditional techniques of the Georgians and others who came before them, who seemed to the modernists to be attempting to represent the modern world in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his essay Tradition and the Individual Talent (1919) Eliot controversially argues that The emotion of art is impersonal, and claims: Impressions and experiences which are important for the man may take no place in the poetry. And yet, ironically, his poetry is littered with impressions and experiences that were important to him: the similarities between Emily Hale and the lady in Portrait of a Lady; the references to his friend Jean Verdenal in The Waste Land; and the later reference to Margate Sands, where Russell and Eliot s wife went on holiday, all demonstrate the personal nature of Eliot s verse. Furthermore, Eliot later admitted that he was somewhat obnoxious in his earlier essays. He writes about Dante s work that we cannot afford to ignore Dante s philosophical and theological beliefs. Thus, we can infer that the beliefs and the quarrels within Eliot s poems are beliefs and quarrels that he felt within himself. In Eliot s first poems, his mind seems to be focused largely on the conflict between a romantic and a realist view of life, if by romanticism we mean the hope of something better. Influenced by the anti romantic teachings of Irving Babbitt, a Professor at Harvard, Eliot s secular poems explore the possibility of a romantic or idealist worldview, which is then denied. The study of teamwork was originated with the development of social psychology and interest on how groups behave, predominantly as against another group. There were two groups that were discussed in the article that contributed to the study of teamwork. The first group is in group as described as being a member of a group who share a particular interest or activity and defines who you are. The second group was described as a group outside one s own with which one feels no sense of identity. This second group is termed as out group . Hellen Keller s clichĂ© enunciates that we can do so little if we are alone and we can do so much if we will work as a team. According to the writer, things can go wrong because power plays a big role in a team. In health care for example, quality and safety are the two big priorities. However, flaws still arise. Typically, the complications arise because of the problems in the team, not with the people s ability. There was a situation wherein a misunderstanding between the surgeon and the assistant was narrated in the article. There was a misunderstanding due to the fact that the surgeon had just transferred from the other team. It simply tells us that teamwork was not applied in this situation. From VoigtlĂ€nder and Voth (2009), again I borrow the population growth rate function: where is subsistence level of food production, and and are income elasticities of birth and death rates, respectively. Observe that, unlike in VoigtlĂ€nder and Voth (2009), here I model population growth rate as a function of consumption. Although I take income elasticities as exogenous constants in this paper (for reasons that will become obvious later on), in its next iteration I propose that these elasticities be functions of food consumption. It is reasonable to assume that birth rates are increasing in consumption; however, the proportional rise in birth rates with respect to levels of consumption cannot realistically be constant over the long run, as is in VoigtlĂ€nder and Voth (2009). Similarly, while it is prudent to assume that death rates drop as food consumption increases, it is expected that eventually the proportional drop in death rates will decrease in consumption. That is, when food is scarce and famine is present, even small increases in food consumption can lower death rates significantly (especially true for infants and small children). As per capita consumption reaches more satisfactory levels, food becomes less significant in determining mortality, and some other factors, such as diseases and genetics, take over. In Things Fall Apart, author Chinua Achebe demonstrates depression throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While many would expect a stereotypical story where the main character is well loved and overcomes a challenge to become successful with a sort of revelation, Achebe breaks this stereotype and points out the flaws in real world society. Depression is a hot topic to discuss to this day, attracting audiences of all sorts. Okonkwo s suicide was that of a tragic hero s journey come to an end, thus proving the consequences of fighting back and eventually failing. In popular culture, many well known celebrities have various mental illnesses partly because of the expectations placed upon them and fear of losing their perfect image. Okonkwo was a sort of celebrity in his Nigerian village, and with all of his power and glory he gained throughout his life and in the novel, the stress and responsibility of being a true man took its toll on him. Depression doesn t just manifest itself in the mind because of unfortunate situations; even though Achebe did focus mainly on tragic events leading to mental illness. • 29. Pros And Cons Of Microchip Implant In recent discovery by the NBC News humans of the US are predicted to be tagged with microchips. This medical chip is said to track medical health for every American. According to the reports, the technology is forced to ask serious questions towards the statement I am who I say I am. A human microchip implant is an identifying device or an RFID transponder encased in a small glass and implanted in a human being. RFID stands for radio frequency identification. The chip is not battery powered, powered instead by a reader that pulls information out of the chip. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... RFID chips are found in lots of things we use every day, credit cards, pet trackers, to everyday phones, also connecting with phone apps. Even creepier, the microchip is also found in the technology that is currently at Disney World s MagicBand, which tracks a wearer s location within the park and connects to that person s accounts for the parks amusement rides. One fact about the RFID microchip is that it was not the first microchip to be approved. A company called VeriChip actually got approved by the FDA to market an implant back in 2004. The implant was designed to carry a unique ID number that hospitals could use to pull up a patient s medical records if he or she were unconscious; however, the chip was discontinued in 2010 over privacy concerns with HIPPA. Even if the microchip is roughly the shape and size of a grain of rice and works like a tiny computer, even the tiny computer can catch a virus just as a regular computer today can. The chances of identity theft becoming more and more common will increase dramatically. Also with a microchip being so small and fragile it would make it easier for damaged, even more so for those who have jobs that require hands on. Our number rule in the medical field is the patient s privacy; with the microchip approved it will only make it our number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Role Of Economic Development As Measured Through Levels Gender inequality has been and is still a problem being faced worldwide. It has inhibited the social, economical, and political growth of women in all different nations, especially third world countries. There are various implications that change the level of inequality such as education, culture, religion, democratization of countries, years of independence, and most importantly, economic development. (Dollar Gatti, 1999). This paper is examining the role economic development as measured through levels GDP (low, medium, high) plays in the level of gender empowerment in a country. After reading various studies, I have concluded that when regarding gender empowerment it is specific to the empowerment of women It is hypothesized that increased economic development will display higher levels of gender empowerment. The following three literature reviews will demonstrate and support the hypothesis. The first article, Gender Inequality, Income, and Growth: Are Good Times Good for Women? by David Dollar and Roberta Gotti, is a cumulated work that was published by The World Bank under the Development Research Group. Dollar and Roberti addressed three specific questions that they felt were strong factors in the implications economic development brought upon gender empowerment. The questions were constructed in efforts to respond to the macroeconomic data revealed through its answers. The questions are: 1. • 33. International Students Impact The impact of international students in USA In modern times U.S. colleges and universities have more international students than ever before. The number of international students in the classrooms has increased dramatically the past couple of years. When I started classes here in US, I feel as if we, the foreign students were just more students. I saw it as people coming from different places but not different thoughts. After I started classes I realized that international students think in another way. We see things with different perspectives because we come from other cultures. We have a perspective based on our experience out of the country. Which means, we get to different conclusions. We have been raised different than people here in U.S.A. They were thought in another way, so we think different. I realized that, students from other countries can contribute a lot to a country. Not only economically, international students contribute culturally, as well with making improvements in institutions and education. They help by making the international relations of the country better. Outside the classroom, international students have an impact on more than just the education sector. They help supporting the economic activity, food, transportation, communication and more. International students have a potential to change methods and content of the education due to their different perspective. This challenges teachers to improve the process of teaching in class to ... • 35. George S. Patton Rhetorical Leadership Respected by most, yet feared by many, General George S. Patton was one of the most profound leaders the United States Army has ever had. He took part throughout the Mexican Revolution, World War One, and dominating the stage throughout World War Two. His career as an officer took stage shortly after his graduation from The United States Army Military Academy, where he branched as a cavalry officer (Patton, Wikipedia, 2017). Inpatient and young, he eventually went on his first deployment as a lieutenant to take part in the battle of San Miguelito. It was in Mexico that Patton met General John Joseph Pershing, where it is believed that he based a lot of his military leadership styles on the way Pershing led his troops (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). Through imitating Pershing, George had some of the most courageous leadership styles known widely throughout, where many praised his bravery, yet several found him foolish. Following the battle of San Miguelito, Patton was promoted to Captain and appointed by General Pershing to the head of the new AEF Tank Corps. (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). It was throughout the process of developing the AEF Tank Corps. that I feel Patton demonstrated his most profound adaptive leadership trait, drive. George Patton was driven in anything and everything he did for the AEF Tank Corps. He implemented his own ideas, tactics, design, uniform, and procedures in a way that revolutionized war (PATTON 360, 2015). The United States had never had an armor ... • 36. The Leadership of Jesus The Leadership of Jesus The question of whether leaders are born or can be taught is one that is common in leadership discussions. My personal opinion is that leaders can be taught, and should be taught by studying the principles and practices by which our history s most effective leaders led. Furthermore; it is important to realize that leadership through hierarchies is quickly becoming inferior to leadership through service and having a joint vision shared by all those affected by this leader. Jesus was such a leader; a servant leader. Jesus said, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give ... Jesus was a strategic and convincing teacher because he offered hope to those who had none, but made His followers aware of the dangers of putting ourselves and our possessions ahead of God. Jesus was a great strategist and this can clearly be seen by the vastness of the movement that he started. From the very beginning, Jesus was committed to training the leaders who would continue to spread his message long after his death. Jesus realized the importance in focusing on his disciples and teaching them the very details of his personal values and lifestyle. Jesus could surely reach more people by sending out his disciples to spread his message, but he also appointed seventy two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go (Luke 10:1) this was an excellent strategy in order to make people aware of his arrival. However, it was also a strategy to teach his followers to have confidence in him; he tells them: he who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me and when the seventy two returned and told him, Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name , Jesus replied, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven (Luke 10:16 20). Knowing how to find the VP made me want to choose what I believed to be challenging pictures out of what was given to us. This being said, I chose Gas, Edward Hopper 1940, Corridor in the Asylum, Vincent Van Gogh 1889, and L`Europe Geneva Bridge, Gustave Caillebotte 1876. In these three paintings I not only saw a challenge, but also a neat story that can be conveyed in finding the VP. This line then follows across the roofline, down through the man walking s neck, through the woman s skirt. This line then finishes on the cement and ending on the shadow of the dog. Orthogonal line two starts at the end of the bridge railing on the bottom right side. The line then continues down the railing, crossing through the old man in green and through the woman and man walking near each other. This line will end on the building in the left corner and right above the buggy by finishing on the building. The third and final line starts along the sidewalk on the bottom left side, leading up the sidewalk and going through the man s coat, head and hat, while ending on building in the middle of the painting. • 39. The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP (National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where thirteen parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their children to schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them for the upcoming school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one of the four schools in the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved traveling some distance from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of Education on behalf of their twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first parent to suit against the problem, so the case came to be named after his last name. Three local lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that Topeka s racial segregation violated the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s black and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be due to the way things were. The federal district court dismissed his claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were substantially equal enough to be constitutional under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to the Supreme Court, which made it more effective and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Little Ships During The Operation Dynamo The role played by the Little Ships during the Operation Dynamo has been heavily mythicized by contemporary accounts of Dunkirk. For instance, a heading in The Times from June 4, 1940 referred to the civilian vessels at Dunkirk as a Magnificent Spirit . Furthermore, the column noted how Fishermen, yachtsmen, yacht builders, yacht clubs, river boatmen responded in Britain s time of need and how the civilian sailors manned their craft with volunteer crews and rushed them to the assembly point . Similarly, another piece from The Times helped illustrate a sense of mass, spontaneous civilian participation by making reference to how the only complaints people had about volunteering their vessels Dunkirk came from boat owners who could not get themselves onboard in time to go to their boats . Newspapers publishing articles such as the two noted above helped form the public conception of the Little Ships as a mass armada of selfless volunteers who helped rescue countless Allied troops and delivered them to British coastal ports. The pinnacle of this fantasifull narrative was Paul Gallico s short story, The Snow Goose, published in The Saturday Evening Post. Within said novella, the protagonist narrates a romanticized rendition of the Little Ship story where every tug and fishing boat or power launch that could propel itself was heading across the Channel ... to rescue as many as possible from the German fire . The Last Winter Film Analysis ABSTRACT Environmental change is a severe issue in the world as many parts of the world strive towards ensuring that the environment remains habitable and with minimal detrimental changes (Hamilton, 2011). Furthermore, environmental evolution is taught in most educational centers to ensure that people understand how to conserve the environment. However, many people perceive it as a dull subject and do not give it the attention it deserves; but this situation is changed by the number of movies, documentaries, movies and TV series that have been made to explain the dangers or benefits of environmental change more creatively.
