Process – The Jungle game
To start off with this project the first thing I did was open up
adobe Photoshop. Putting it on pixels and setting it up as
transparent background. So that it was easier to draw within the
squares. Then setting it on 320 width and 80 height. Then put it
onto 72 resolution and opened it up. I used the pencil tool to
draw the man, changing the colors such as red, blue and white for
the colors that were needed. I then chose a new layer and
opened up a image that I was going to have as location. Then
traced around the image using the pixel tool that was on a
different layer. Changing up some of the colors so that it was my
own. Then I picked a new layer to draw out the rock that I was
having using the pencil tool. The next thing I did was go into
window at the top and click timeline so that it had a tick next to
it. Once the timeline was open up at the bottom, I selected a
second frame and set them all on 0.2 seconds. The next thing I
did was a continuous process of moving the character forward by
each frame so that It looks like he’s moving. Then moving the rock
down as well by each frame in the timeline. This was done by
duplicating the layer and hiding the the layers that weren't
needed in that frame. Then when it got to the last few frames
where there was the explosion. I opened the image and
duplicated it as each frame when by as I did with the other
images. This time I enlarged the photo that was not the hidden
frame each time by each different frame. So that it looked like it
was getting larger. The last thing I did was export the game. By
going into file, export and then scrolled down to render video. So
that I could save it to some place that I wanted.
Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• I want to have free run game as my final product for this project. Free run
games often include the endlessly running while collecting points and
avoiding obstacles. Games such as temple run as an example of something
similar that I want to do. However the version I have created here there
isn't any points to collect, only obstacles that you have to avoid like the
rock.
• I also want to include the explosion that was in this game. I think this was
a cool effect adding the drama that you've just escape. I also think with
the sound effects this will look a lot more better.
• Another thing I want to include is the jungle location as I thinks it’s an
interesting location area and can be expanded to look very nice.
Process - The Space game
The first thing I did was open up a photoshop file setting it on 80 width,
320 height and 72 resolution. I put it on a transparent background and
then opened up the file. I opened up a new layer, opened up a new
image that I got from the internet of black wallpaper image. Then using
the pencil tool. I selected it to 1px. I drew in the various white dots that
would make it look like space. I then used a pencil tool and selected it
to 10px. On the same layer I drew out the ‘go’ and ‘end’ sign. Then I
selected a new layer and using the pencil tool. I selected a red colour to
start drawing out spaceship. I also selected the green, yellow and
orange and then finally minimized the image so that it fits to where I
wanted it. Then I selected the orange colour with the pencil tool on a
new layer. I needed to create the explosion. So I started drawing it out
and used the colours red and white to draw out the rest of the
explosion. I also used different layers and using the red pencil tool. I
drew out the lasers that would come out of the ship. I also used
different layers to draw out the aliens using the pencil tool. Using white
and black colours. Resizing the drawing and then duplicating the layer.
Putting them in the right place so it looked like there was more than
one.
The next thing I did was start my animation. Setting each frames to 0.2
seconds. Moved the ship further and further so it looked like it was
travelling. When it came to the explosion, I moved the lasers to start
with, so they too looked like they were traveling. Then I made the
explosion layer visible. Duplicating that layer and resizing it by each
frame in the timeline. So it looked like the explosion was getting larger.
Once I had finished the animation of the game. The last thing to do was
export the game. By going into file, export and then scrolled down to
render video. So that I could save it to some place that I wanted.
Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• One of the main elements I want to include in my final product that I've
took from this one is the explosion effect. I used this in my previous game.
The effect of the explosion getting bigger and bigger. I think it will work
really well with what I'm going for because it builds tension for the player
making the game more interesting
• Another element I want to include is the ‘start’ and ‘end’ signs. This is a
good way to start the player off so that they know hen to and finish them
off so they know the game finishes.
• The last element that I want to include in my final product is space. Even
though I have the idea of the main location being set in a jungle. It would
be a good idea to expand the world in the different levels. To the point
where one of the levels is set in space.
Process – The SAW game
The first thing I did was open up a photoshop file setting it on 120
width, 80 height and 72 resolution. I put it on a transparent
background and then opened up the file. I opened up a new layer,
set the pencil tool to 1px and then selected the colour. Doing black
for the hair and the body of the man. I selected a colour that was
right enough for the skin and drew that as a well. I also selected the
blue colour for the tie and the white for the shirt. I then selected a
new layer then for the left wall. I opened a new layer and used a
brown colour to draw out the main part of the wall. Then drew out
the black line which is on the side of the left wall. I opened up a new
layer and drew out the same wall but on the right side. Then
drawing the black line on the left side this time. For this next bit I
then went onto my timeline which was under my window on the
top. I opened my first slide on my timeline and for the next few
slides I moved the wall close to the person who was directly in the
centre of the screen. I also moved the character in various spots so
it looks like he was trying to escape. Then up to my fourth slide in
my I hid the layer that had the person in it. Then drew out the blood
on the walls using a red pencil colour. For the next slide in the
timeline I drew out the hand, hanging from the wall and drew a trail
of blood coming out of it, with each slide the walls are opening back
up again. Once I had finished with my animation, I went into export
and render video. Where I saved the video into my documents. So
that I would be able to access it from there.
Reflection
What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
• One technique that I want to include in my final product that was in this
experiment is the jumping action that the character pulls when he trying
to escape the closing walls.
• I want these actions because they convey the sheer terror of the character
and how his aim to escape wherever it is he has been trapped in. Even
though it is pixelated and you can’t convey any emotions unless its sound.
• Another element that I wanted to include in my final product is to include
a few traps in the levels of the game. Like the walls closing. I want include
a trap where there could be giant rock falling and the character your
playing has to avoid it.
Sounds effects and music processI started off by going on a website called
Beepbox. This website I could play the various
notes and set it on different types so that it
would fit the theme of the game. I exported
these videos and put them into my documents. I
then used an MP3 downloader and put the
various sound effects that I found on the
internet, putting them into downloads.
Then for the editing process I opened Adobe
Premiere Pro. Here I imported all the clips I
needed including the videos of my games that I
had exported on Photoshop. I dragged each clip
from my timeline to my editing selection and
then ordered them into where they should be.
Putting the sound effects and the music to
where they fit. There may have been some
sound effects and music clips that I had to cut
because they were too long for the video of the
animation that I had made. Once I had finished
editing my games. I went into file, export and
media. Here I could export the video that I had
made. Selecting a particular place, placing it into
my desktop. Here I would be able to access the
clip in my desktop

01.) Production experiments

  • 2. Process – The Jungle game To start off with this project the first thing I did was open up adobe Photoshop. Putting it on pixels and setting it up as transparent background. So that it was easier to draw within the squares. Then setting it on 320 width and 80 height. Then put it onto 72 resolution and opened it up. I used the pencil tool to draw the man, changing the colors such as red, blue and white for the colors that were needed. I then chose a new layer and opened up a image that I was going to have as location. Then traced around the image using the pixel tool that was on a different layer. Changing up some of the colors so that it was my own. Then I picked a new layer to draw out the rock that I was having using the pencil tool. The next thing I did was go into window at the top and click timeline so that it had a tick next to it. Once the timeline was open up at the bottom, I selected a second frame and set them all on 0.2 seconds. The next thing I did was a continuous process of moving the character forward by each frame so that It looks like he’s moving. Then moving the rock down as well by each frame in the timeline. This was done by duplicating the layer and hiding the the layers that weren't needed in that frame. Then when it got to the last few frames where there was the explosion. I opened the image and duplicated it as each frame when by as I did with the other images. This time I enlarged the photo that was not the hidden frame each time by each different frame. So that it looked like it was getting larger. The last thing I did was export the game. By going into file, export and then scrolled down to render video. So that I could save it to some place that I wanted.
  • 3. Reflection What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product? • I want to have free run game as my final product for this project. Free run games often include the endlessly running while collecting points and avoiding obstacles. Games such as temple run as an example of something similar that I want to do. However the version I have created here there isn't any points to collect, only obstacles that you have to avoid like the rock. • I also want to include the explosion that was in this game. I think this was a cool effect adding the drama that you've just escape. I also think with the sound effects this will look a lot more better. • Another thing I want to include is the jungle location as I thinks it’s an interesting location area and can be expanded to look very nice.
  • 4. Process - The Space game The first thing I did was open up a photoshop file setting it on 80 width, 320 height and 72 resolution. I put it on a transparent background and then opened up the file. I opened up a new layer, opened up a new image that I got from the internet of black wallpaper image. Then using the pencil tool. I selected it to 1px. I drew in the various white dots that would make it look like space. I then used a pencil tool and selected it to 10px. On the same layer I drew out the ‘go’ and ‘end’ sign. Then I selected a new layer and using the pencil tool. I selected a red colour to start drawing out spaceship. I also selected the green, yellow and orange and then finally minimized the image so that it fits to where I wanted it. Then I selected the orange colour with the pencil tool on a new layer. I needed to create the explosion. So I started drawing it out and used the colours red and white to draw out the rest of the explosion. I also used different layers and using the red pencil tool. I drew out the lasers that would come out of the ship. I also used different layers to draw out the aliens using the pencil tool. Using white and black colours. Resizing the drawing and then duplicating the layer. Putting them in the right place so it looked like there was more than one. The next thing I did was start my animation. Setting each frames to 0.2 seconds. Moved the ship further and further so it looked like it was travelling. When it came to the explosion, I moved the lasers to start with, so they too looked like they were traveling. Then I made the explosion layer visible. Duplicating that layer and resizing it by each frame in the timeline. So it looked like the explosion was getting larger. Once I had finished the animation of the game. The last thing to do was export the game. By going into file, export and then scrolled down to render video. So that I could save it to some place that I wanted.
  • 5. Reflection What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product? • One of the main elements I want to include in my final product that I've took from this one is the explosion effect. I used this in my previous game. The effect of the explosion getting bigger and bigger. I think it will work really well with what I'm going for because it builds tension for the player making the game more interesting • Another element I want to include is the ‘start’ and ‘end’ signs. This is a good way to start the player off so that they know hen to and finish them off so they know the game finishes. • The last element that I want to include in my final product is space. Even though I have the idea of the main location being set in a jungle. It would be a good idea to expand the world in the different levels. To the point where one of the levels is set in space.
  • 6. Process – The SAW game The first thing I did was open up a photoshop file setting it on 120 width, 80 height and 72 resolution. I put it on a transparent background and then opened up the file. I opened up a new layer, set the pencil tool to 1px and then selected the colour. Doing black for the hair and the body of the man. I selected a colour that was right enough for the skin and drew that as a well. I also selected the blue colour for the tie and the white for the shirt. I then selected a new layer then for the left wall. I opened a new layer and used a brown colour to draw out the main part of the wall. Then drew out the black line which is on the side of the left wall. I opened up a new layer and drew out the same wall but on the right side. Then drawing the black line on the left side this time. For this next bit I then went onto my timeline which was under my window on the top. I opened my first slide on my timeline and for the next few slides I moved the wall close to the person who was directly in the centre of the screen. I also moved the character in various spots so it looks like he was trying to escape. Then up to my fourth slide in my I hid the layer that had the person in it. Then drew out the blood on the walls using a red pencil colour. For the next slide in the timeline I drew out the hand, hanging from the wall and drew a trail of blood coming out of it, with each slide the walls are opening back up again. Once I had finished with my animation, I went into export and render video. Where I saved the video into my documents. So that I would be able to access it from there.
  • 7. Reflection What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product? • One technique that I want to include in my final product that was in this experiment is the jumping action that the character pulls when he trying to escape the closing walls. • I want these actions because they convey the sheer terror of the character and how his aim to escape wherever it is he has been trapped in. Even though it is pixelated and you can’t convey any emotions unless its sound. • Another element that I wanted to include in my final product is to include a few traps in the levels of the game. Like the walls closing. I want include a trap where there could be giant rock falling and the character your playing has to avoid it.
  • 8. Sounds effects and music processI started off by going on a website called Beepbox. This website I could play the various notes and set it on different types so that it would fit the theme of the game. I exported these videos and put them into my documents. I then used an MP3 downloader and put the various sound effects that I found on the internet, putting them into downloads. Then for the editing process I opened Adobe Premiere Pro. Here I imported all the clips I needed including the videos of my games that I had exported on Photoshop. I dragged each clip from my timeline to my editing selection and then ordered them into where they should be. Putting the sound effects and the music to where they fit. There may have been some sound effects and music clips that I had to cut because they were too long for the video of the animation that I had made. Once I had finished editing my games. I went into file, export and media. Here I could export the video that I had made. Selecting a particular place, placing it into my desktop. Here I would be able to access the clip in my desktop
