The Vietnam War. In The Vietnam War, Mark Atwood Lawrence
The Vietnam War
In The Vietnam War, Mark Atwood Lawrence goes in depth with research from many different sides
of the Vietnam war and accounts for the different events that took place during this time and the many
elements that led to the war. He talks about the significance of the war and how it wasn t just another
war. Lawrence also discusses the effect it had on not just our history but world history.
Lawrence gives a visual of the war from all sides, from the earliest days of French colonization to the
last helicopter fleeing the American embassy, but mainly focuses on the American involvement from
1965 to 1975. He clearly and precisely goes over and researches to accurately examine the motives of

economic aid to the Diem regime, it was doomed due to its internal corruption. The same argument is
used to evaluate U.S. military tactics: Successes on the battlefield petered out due to a fundamental
flaw in strategic assumptions. Revisionists such as Mark Moyar will surely disagree, but Lawrence
does represent the majority opinion among U.S. historians at the moment.
His narrative begins well before American forces set foot in Vietnam, delving into French colonialism
s contribution to the 1945 Vietnamese revolution, and revealing how the Cold War concerns of the
1950s led the United States to back the French. The heart of the book covers the American war,
ranging from the overthrow of Ngo Dinh Diem and the impact of the Tet Offensive to Nixon s
expansion of the war into Cambodia and Laos, and the final peace agreement of 1973. Finally,
Lawrence examines the aftermath of the war, from the momentous liberalization Doi Moi in Vietnam
to the enduring legacy of this infamous war in American books, films, and political debate.

How Technology Has Changed The Business Environment
CHAPTER 1: Key Issues: o The Impact of Technology: Technology as a whole has changed the
business environment, and how it functions drastically over the past 25 years. The Internet was on
CNN s top 25 innovations in the past 20 years ad being named the most influential innovations in the
last quarter century. This innovation in technology has lead to an increase in globalization and changes
how we communicate, transport and do business with each other in a more efficient way. o Invasion of
Privacy: Technology advances in modern day society have made operating a business much easier, but
these steps forward have also provided employers with the ability of sophisticated employee
monitoring. This advance system is put in place to enhance worker productivity, however it has
become a source of concern over a worker s privacy. This has also lead to other questions such as how
far can a employer go in controlling employee behavior. o Workforce Diversity: In the past,
companies took a melting pot approach to diversity assuming that people would somehow
automatically assimilate into the existing culture. But today s managers have found out that employees
di not set aside their cultural values and lifestyle preferences when they come to work. The challenge,
therefore, is to make organizations more accommodating to diverse groups of people by addressing
multiple different variables. o Work Process Engineering: Also referred to as work process
reengineering, goes above and

Gymnastics Is A Competitive Sport
According to Oxford Dictionaries, the formal definition of gymnastics is
Exercises developing or displaying physical agility and coordination. The modern sport of gymnastics
typically involves exercises on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, and vaulting horse for women, and
horizontal and parallel bars, rings, floor, and pommel horse for men.
Gymnastics is a competitive sport in which gymnasts perform acrobatic feats such as leaps, flips,
turns, handstands and choreographed routines. These acrobatics are performed on a piece of apparatus
such as a balance beam, horizontal bars, parallel bars, floor, uneven bars, vault horse and horse with
pommels.

It is also the oldest form of gymnastics, dating back to the very early Olympic Games in Greece. Men
compete both individually and as a team in six apparatuses: Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault,
Parallel Bars and High Bar. Some of the highest flying stunts and amazing displays of strength are
performed by Male gymnasts.
Rhythmic gymnastics:
Rhythmic gymnastics is currently exclusive to women in the Olympic Games. Women compete both
individually and as a team using five different approaches including: Rope, Hoop, ball, Clubs and
Ribbon. These gymnasts often display incredible flexibility, coordination and grace.
Trampoline
Trampoline is only a very recent division of gymnastics to be added in the Olympic Games in 2000.
Both men and women are allowed to participate in the division. The routines and stunts performed on
the Trampoline use a double mini trampoline and in a synchronised event where 2 athletes perform at
the same time on 2 different trampolines. The trampoline is significantly more light and bouncy than a
standard gymnasts floor used in artistic gymnastics so the gymnasts may perform gravity defying
flips.
Power tumbling
Power tumbling is performed on a spring runway that is far more bouncier than a standard artistic
gymnastics floor which allows the gymnasts to perform complicated and difficult tricks with success.
Power tumbling has not yet been recognised as an Olympic event. Although, it is competed by
gymnasts in the

The Vast Culture Of Scotland
Scotland has always been seen as one the main European countries and a major part of the United
Kingdom. Scotland was an independent country up until the year 1701 when the Act of the Union was
signed forming the United Kingdom. The original countries in the United Kingdom include England,
Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. Scotland is also well known as the home of golf. Golf can be
traced back to Scotland all the way back in 1457. In this report we will talk about the vast culture of
Scotland and how they compare to us, the economy of Scotland and how they make a living as a
country and as citizens, and also about their government and how they are similar to us and differ
from us.

Computer literacy The impact of mobile computing
INF 103
Bonita Spight Williams
September 8, 2014
Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go. You
are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops, tablets,
cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of mobile
computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel like they
are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking typing class in
high school and now almost every school in America issues tablets to their students.
In order to fully discuss mobile computing we first have to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and documents
to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have not tried documents
to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone and let me do almost
everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager for the Air Force at the
time so I always need to be able to view and edit Excel documents on the fly. It was great to just be
able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it or try to make a mental note
to do it later. I can say it saved my backside several times.
The iPhone was first release in 2007 and it was the first handheld device that really advanced the web

According to Newton this also was the signal that web marketing was entering a new day and age. Say
hello to the mobile web. You no longer needed to be tethered to your computer to browse the Internet.
The same thing applied as with almost every other tech breakthrough and other companies followed

Technological Advancements In The Advertising Industry...
During the 20th century, there were countless major technological advancements that changed society.
Not only did it make people s lives easier, but it also changed the entertainment, communication, and
leisure industries. With these new outlets to use in order to expand, the advertisement industry
changed their strategies to adapt to new forms of communication. With all these new technologies,
every moment of the day became an opportunity for ads on the radio, on TV, and while driving.
Wherever technology went, a new form of advertisement followed. The first major technological
advancement is the rise in popularity of the radio. During World War I, many people had radios
because they wanted to listen to war news. However, after the war, people realized that it is a new
vehicle of communication. At this time there was still a popular way of advertising the mail order
catalog. The Sears catalog was the most popular, but people could order anything, even a full home,
through these catalogs(SS15). These catalogs were great for ads for all different types of products, as
well as helped the consumer by making the process quick and easy. Although the Great Depression
was a time where there was a lack in luxuries, radios still prevailed. They were good a good source of
entertainment for the whole family, because things like movies were now too expensive. By 1936
there was almost 1 radio per household even though it was an expense, it still was a staple technology.

White Furniture Company
White Furniture Company was the oldest maker of fine furniture. This phrase was reiterated over and
over again by longtime Mebane, North Carolina residents. This company employed 1 out of 20
Mebane residents and was a driving economic force in the town. White s regulated many of the
rhythms of the town opening and closing time, lunchtime, weekend and holidays.
For this reason, when White Furniture Company closed the whole town was effected. Many
individuals, some who had been with the factory for most of their lives were out of a job. Closing: The

He worked at White s for 41 years and although he agrees with most of what Margaret said, he sheds
light on the poor wages given by the company. He states he only stayed with the company because he
liked his job and the people he worked with, but the wages were next to nothing. James stated at $1.10
an hour and in 6 years, his pay had only been enhanced to $1.23 an hour.
James recalls a story of when he asked his supervisor for a raise stating that he was tired of being paid
such low wages for his hard work. His supervisor, Phonse Bean responded with, Really, by you doing
so many jobs, it cuts you high level pay down to lower pay, to medium grade. Actually, the way I got
it figured, you re fifteen cents overpaid now an hour. But I m going to give you a nickel raise because
I think you re worth it.
After years and years with White s, James retired at 65 in 1992 and traveled to Europe with his wife.
Most of the employees assumed he would come back, but he assured them he was indefinitely retired.
When the employees insisted the company wouldn t run without him their eerie prediction came true
when White s closed just a year later in 1993.
Don McCall, supervisor of the standing department was hired in 1990 by his friend, Robin Hart who
also happened to be president of Hickory White. Initially, many employees regarded Don as a villan
who pushed for quantity over quality. But later some of them described Don as a sensitive man

The Effect Of The On The Snap Program On Children And...
The changes in the SNAP Program that would restrict certain purchases of foods and become more
like the WIC Program would affect 45,766,672 individuals. As of now, SNAP participants are able to
purchase multiple food items even if they do not have any nutritional benefit. The goal is to increase
protein, fruit, vegetables and grain consumption among SNAP participants. When people are low
income they tend to buy goods that are cheaper in nutrients. SNAP participants were least likely to
consume any fruits or vegetables compared to those not participating in the program, regardless of
cooking frequency. (Bleich and Wolfson 2015). Increasing protein, fruits, vegetables and grains will
have a positive effect on the health of our SNAP participants.
From what I have learned in class this semester and the research I have found many SNAP
participants consume more processed foods due to price being in their budget, which is a direct
relation to obesity in both children and adults. After multivariate adjustment, compared with
nonparticipants, SNAP participants consumed 43% more sugar sweetened beverages, 47% more high
fat dairy, and 44% more processed meats. (Leung et al 2013). To change the trend in this we need to
limit the amount of sugary drinks and candy intake among SNAP participants. Not only are sugary
drinks bad for your health but they are also a waste of money and that is exactly what SNAP program
is doing wasting their money. Nationwide, SNAP was estimated to pay

Teaching Methods For An Educator
The ability to read is the utmost significant factor behind a child s educational outcome, thus for an
educator to impart the skills of literacy on to a student is the most important aspect of primary school
education. The art of reading is a multifaceted process that expands on spoken language, it requires the
mastering of a progressive set of skills which nurture a phonemic and Phonological awareness, builds
a proficiency in decoding competencies and requires the capability to implement comprehension
strategies. An insight into these skills are outlined within a framework comprised of six dynamics
commonly referred to as the big six . These foundation elements are essential in the reading process,
and the means in which these skill sets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing this helps a teacher plan learning experiences that best harmonises with the needs of the child
(Winch, Johnston, March, Ljungdahl, Holliday, 2014). It is good practise to retain these assessment
results as the commencement of a running record on each child. Utilising running records enables
teachers to secure a comprehensive and accurate assessment of a student s reading ability (Department
of Education and Child Development, 2012). As this assessment information follows the progression
of a student s reading development throughout their primary years it helps identify children that are
struggling early in their journey (Department of Education and Child Development, 2012).
Determining a student s level of phonological awareness, does the student hear, analyse and
manipulate the sounds and syllables of spoken words? Do they understand speech is a combination of
separate words? Does the child distinguish the individual sounds or phenomes that form syllables?
Can they identify rhyming words? Do they blend or exchange sounds to make new word
combinations? These are the questions educators need to firstly find answers too and secondly teach in
order to tutor children in reading (Reid Lyon, 2008). It is crucial to build upon a child s phonemic
awareness, if children struggle to isolate the sounds of spoken word, it will be difficult for them to
relate these sounds to their represented letters (Fellows

Hamlet And Laertes Similarities
The historic play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the longest play with 4,042 lines and is the
second most filmed story in the world. To develop a deeper understanding of the play, it is important
to observe the similarities of the two characters; Prince Hamlet and Laertes. In the play, they are both
young men whose fathers are murdered due to political conflict. These men have different father and
son relationships but they mourn their father s deaths similarly. Even though they both study abroad
and their beloved Ophelia is home in Denmark, these two scholars still manage to love and protect her.
Hamlet and Laertes, fathers deaths in the play were certainly different. King Hamlet was assassinated
by his brother, Claudius. Claudius s motive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In spite of the distance, Laertes and Hamlet return and leave Denmark many times throughout the
play. They both love a woman named Ophelia in different ways. Laertes loves Ophelia since it is his
sister, and Hamlet loves her in a lustily way. Both Laertes and Hamlet react similarly when at Ophelia
s funeral. Both jump into her grave, declaring their love for Ophelia. As Laertes vows revenge, Hamlet
states he has in him something dangerous, telling Laertes: I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers.
Could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?. Different in
approach, Hamlet and Laertes yet share similarities in matters of the heart. Both Laertes and Hamlet
want to keep Ophelia safe from the people and customs of where she lives. Laertes takes on the big
brother role and advises Ophelia to keep her virtue safe and stay away from Hamlet because all he is
doing is using her. In Laertes s eyes, Hamlet must marry in order to suit the kingdom, so marrying the
daughter of the king s right hand man would not benefit the kingdom in any way. Therefore he
believes that Hamlet is just trying to take advantage of her. Later, Hamlet purposely acts cruelly
towards Ophelia in order to protect her. He wants her to have no involvement in his plan to kill the
king. Even though she betrayed him, he cannot possibly hate her, the proof is at her funeral. He was
devastated because of her death and even proceeded to throw himself in her grave along with Laertes.
Although they fight, it was just because they were both jealous of how much the other loved

Snow Falling On Cedars And Snow Falling On Cedars
Becoming the Bridge Between Two Worlds Second generation immigrants are often forced to become
the bridge between two worlds, as their foreign parents hold on to cultural ties and traditions, while
the children grow up in a Western society with contrasting ways of life. The works the End of East by
Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle
for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities between two cultures. As seen in both
works, the writers demonstrate how second generation immigrants are faced with the challenge of
finding their identities, as they feel torn between their cultural practices and the influences of their
Western upbringings; However, only after setting aside the differences that clash the two cultures are
they truly able to find a balance between the two and discover who they are. Firstly, both the End of
East and Snow Falling on Cedars involve second generation immigrant protagonists in North America
that struggle to keep their parents happy and preserve their culture, while continuing to live their lives
as individuals of the West. Hatsue, a Japanese American girl in Snow Falling on Cedars, grows up in
the West. Despite being brought up in North America, she is well aware that her mother strongly
believes in preserving the Japanese culture. Hatsue s mother wishes for Hatsue to honour their
traditional Japanese ways, and encourages her to marry one of [her] own kind and stay

Comparing Aging In King Lear And Birdman
William Shakespeare, through his play King Lear, and Alejandro G. Iñárritu, through his 2014 film
Birdman, both portray characters who reflect on their lives and become obsessed with leaving a
lasting legacy, resulting in eventual self destruction. In his madness, Lear reflects on how he believes
he was not a good king during his reign, hence affecting his legacy after his inevitable death, while
Riggan Thomson s (Michael Keaton) play is his attempt at remaining relevant. Shakespeare s use of
soliloquies and Iñárritu s use of Riggan s inner voice also both give the audience insight into the mind
of the two characters. At the pinnacle of his madness, as Lear realises that he has become a weak and
despised old man and regrets his reign for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Lear and Riggan are arrogant, egotistical and ultimately ignorant to the surrounding world.
Iñárritu and Shakespeare utilise the dialogue of other characters towards the protagonists, in albeit
different ways, to show this. Shakespeare utilises the Fool to provide commentary for the audience. In
the court of the king, the Fool s role was to provide entertainment through comedy, but Shakespeare
portrays him as the only character telling Lear the truth and thus this is an example of dramatic irony.
Through his anecdotes and commentary, the Fool reveals to Lear the truth, but in his ignorance the
king does not acknowledge this. Iñárritu demonstrates this through the audial and visual manifestation
of Riggan s younger self. While Shakespeare uses the Fool to tell Lear and the audience the truth,
Riggan s subconscious furthers his disconnection from reality and self absorption. Additionally,
Shakespeare uses eyes as a motif to emphasise this fatal blindness, attributed to age. The plucking out
of Gloucester s eyes is also a direct link to this. Lear s crown is also used as a symbol of Lear s poor
judgement; by splitting the kingdom between his daughters, Lear clovest his crown i th middle , which
ultimately lead to the tragic consequences at the end of the play. Iñárritu explores a similar idea of a
limited view of the world through

Justifying Evil for Good is Cruel
There are many forms of cruelty. One form that many can relate to is bullying. Whether having been
bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one s heart.
In White Lies, Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for
good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos,
perhapsing with logos, and vivid images with diction.
Murphy expresses how justifying bad deeds for good is cruel by first stirring the reader s emotions on
the topic of bullying with pathos. In White Lies, Murphy shares a childhood memory that takes the

in the back of the room. As far as I know, she never intervened (Murphy 382). A disheartening picture
because kids may be kids, but a grown adult should be able to distinguish between right and wrong.
Allowing the bullying to take place meant she condoned their behavior to be acceptable. Also, as a
teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of cruelty is wrong.
Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds for
good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is showing that
Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when Connie s father
got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day... this makes the reader
consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382). Also, Murphy makes one
question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help Connie, condoning a lie teaches
Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard
box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one wonder if there is a middle ground for right and
wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong for good is cruel.
Murphy explains how justifying bad deeds for good is wrong by painting vivid images of her
characters and brings them to life with choice words. Murphy describes Arpi s accent and uses
metaphoric words

because he mixed colors very well. He wore navy blazer that was embellished with silver flower
patterned jacquards. It was notch lapels and a single breasted with one button. He didn t mention the

THE MERGER OF AIRTRAN BY SOUTHWEST AIRLINES:WILL THE ORGANIZATIONAL

Southwest s merger with AirTran, valued at over US$3 billion, makes Southwest the fourth largest
American carrier. The merger increases Southwest s presence in a number of major cities, most
notably New York (LaGuardia) and Washington D.C. (Ronald Reagan National Airport). Thanks to
AirTran, it now flies into the coveted Atlanta s Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International, the world s

. . This is a very different approach, taking thousands of AirTran employees, dumping them into the
system and hoping it works. It s a pretty risky move, says Peter Capelli, a Wharton management
professor in 2010. Cappelli adds that airline mergers are always difficult because integration has to
take place while a carrier continues to carry out complex operations. Thousands of employees can t
easily be put through an orientation program in the merger s short time frame and the information
systems supporting the complex operations of two airlines can t be easily changed.23 In November
2011, Southwest Airlines more than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways 1,700 pilots overwhelmingly
approved a plan to combine the seniority lists of the two carriers, with five out of six pilots voting in
favor.24 The personnel systems have to be modified to reflect the new seniority and pay systems. The
disparate cultures of Southwest and AirTran are also posing problems for the merger of their online
reservation systems. Southwest currently is planning to switch from Sabre or Amadeus to better
accommodate merchandising and international flights. AirTran s reservations system vendor is

travel agencies. Southwest usually sells its tickets via telephone or through its Web site whereas

The Role Of Cousins In Professional Sports
With the NFL off season fast approaching, there are a lot of storylines to keep an eye on that could
make this off season really interesting. One story to keep an eye on is the drama between the
Washington Redskins and their franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Ever since the last off season, Cousins has been asking to get a new contract the problem with that is
the team and Cousins can not agree on a deal. Over the past few weeks, people have been speculating
if the team would trade him. The question now is should the team trade Cousins?
Drafted in the 4th round of the 2012 draft, Cousins was drafted to be the long term backup for Robert
Griffin III who they drafted in the same draft as him getting selected with the second pick of the 2012

The only thing that is standing in his way of getting a new deal is how much does he want? It all
depends on his asking price, he is heading to his 30 s soon so he should want to get the most money he
can get right now and not wait.
On the Redskins side of things, the team is playing the waiting game with Cousins when it comes to a
new contract which could at the end of the day be a really bad thing. Multiple reports that are out there
are saying that the team does not think he is worth the money he is asking for.
The Redskins should do the smart thing and just lock him up right now as long as he does not want
over 100 million dollars a fair asking price is between 50 million dollars and 70 million dollars. There
are not a lot of franchise quarterbacks out there right now, and the team can not afford to lose him
right now.
At the end of the day, the Redskins should not trade Cousins he is too valuable to the franchise right
now and he means a lot to the locker room. If the team does trade him, there are not going to be a lot
of options to replace him with the quarterbacks in the draft do not have the potential that Cousins has

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s Go Back To Where You Came...
The process of discovery is often, a rigid and gruelling journey which leads an individual or group to

Baseball Is America s National Pastime
The argument over which sport is originally Americas national past time is as enduring and intense as
American sports themselves. Each and every week millions of people tune in to watch their favorite
sports being played. Over the years baseball has traditionally been known as the national pastime
among all sports, but the rich tradition and history behind baseball is still around and noticed, with that
being said, baseball is still referred to as America s national pastime. This can be attributed to many
factors including a superior television product, more controlled violence, and legalized gambling with
fantasy football and baseball.
Each and every week millions of Americans tune in to watch their favorite sports. Basketball,
baseball, football, golf, soccer, and racing all have a place and a market with the sports fans in
America. Over the past two decades, baseball has been left behind while football has become America

The Iron Lady
The Iron Lady. One of the most stand out monuments in the world, and one of the most beautiful. It
shares its nickname with Margaret Thatcher, a prime minister of England. Built by Gustave Eiffel in
1889 as an entrance to the World Fair, La Tour Eiffel would stand for twenty years before being torn
down. However, the tower would later be repurposed as a radio antenna in 1909 for World War I, and
still stands as a radio antenna to this day, where more than one hundred antennae beam radio and
television broadcasts around the world. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most recognized, and most paid
for visited monument in the world. However, when it was built, there were multiple protests against it.
Most Parisians fear that La Tour Eiffel was structurally unsound or that it was an eyesore that would
out shadow other famous buildings in Paris, like Notre Dame and the Louvre. Novelist Guy de
Maupassant allegedly hated the Eiffel Tower so much he ate lunch in the restaurant at the base of the
tower every day because it was the only vantage point from which (I) could completely avoid
glimpsing its looming silhouette. Eiffel later stated that the tour was on the Champs de Mars and far
enough away from all those other monuments and it would not risk overwhelming them. Edouard
Lockroy wrote a letter of support about the tower, and explained how all the protesting was irrelevant
because the project had been decided upon months before and construction for it was already
underway. When

The Social And Cultural Environment Of Baltimore
The chart shows how Baltimore economy compares to the United States, needless to say Baltimore is
struggling. Unemployment rate is higher than the rest of the United States, and job growth isn t
helping to improve Baltimore s employment rate. To dig deeper into Baltimore s economy, the
unemployment rate for black men in Baltimore is really low. It is shown that between the ages of 20
and 24 it was 37 percent in 2013, as to being 10 percent for white men in the same category. It also
doesn t help that as the age groups increase that just 59 percent of black men between the ages of 25
and 54 are working, compared with 79 percent of white men (Casselman).
The social and cultural environment in Baltimore is unique. Baltimore has a very distinctive history
and each neighborhood has its own character and vibe. From East to West Baltimore, From
Downtown to County lines, each neighborhood has its own diners or restaurants, shops and social
centers.

Title III of the E Government Act, entitled the Federal Information Security Management Act
(FISMA) requires each federal agency to develop, document, and implement an agency wide program
to provide information security for the information and systems that support the operations and assets
of the agency, including those provided or managed by another agency, contractor, or other sources
(Staff, 2016). FISMA was amended by The Federal Information Security Modernization Act of 2014.
The amendment was established to modernize the Federal security practices to focus on security

The Pros And Cons Of African American Vernacular English
African American vernacular English has been frowned upon since its very beginning due to the
oppressors thinking of it as improper. June Jordan thought the very same thing when she spoke up
about it in Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and stated ...white standards of English persis,
supreme and unquestioned, in these United States. Despite our multilingual population, and despite
the deepening Black white cleavage within that conglomerate, white standards control our official and
popular judgements of verbal proficiency and correct, or incorrect, language skills, including speech.
That being said, standard English is found to be more appropriate to write a formal letter or article of
great importance, than vernacular English because it will reach out to a greater audience and will be
interpreted much better. There are pros and cons when it comes to whether or not one should speak in
either vernacular or standard English with one of those being the location and environment are two
major considerations. Sadly, that is what it has all come down to and it is noted by June Jordan ...as an
endangered species... meaning it is rather difficult to find people that speak vernacular English,
nowadays, without conforming themselves to the oppressor s ways. Her statement is agreeable in the
sense that slaves were brought to the United States not knowing the language and were forced to learn,
what they called, the oppressor s language. They might have been stripped of their

The Music Industry Became Aware Of Napster After John...
In June of 1999 Shawn Fanning, John Fanning, and Sean Parker created an independent peer to peer
file sharing website called Napster, Named after John Fanning s high school nickname. A peer to peer
(P2P) service allows access to media files like movies, music, books and games by using a certain
program that connects to other computers on the same network, meaning that when someone
downloaded a file it was coming directly from another person s computer. The website was
specifically designed to transfer MP3 files with a search engine dedicated to retrieving MP3 files only,
and a chat service which allowed users to communicate with each other while using this system
(Tyson). At its prime, Napster was home to about 80 million users (Gowan). The issue with Napster
was that it wasn t properly licensed to distribute the files and it allowed its users unlimited free access
to other individual s intellectual property without their consent. The music industry became aware of
Napster when the heavy metal band, Metallica discovered that an unreleased version of one of their
songs was circling the internet. Metallica sued Napster, providing evidence that over 300 thousand
people had exchanged their work without the approval of the band or the record label, and that
Napster contributed to their infringements (Vaver). Napster s main defense against the lawsuit was the

Health Care Delivery Systems: Staffing and Delegation
Watching a medical show like, Gray s Anatomy, the population get a dramatic and believable glimpse
of life in an operating room (OR), but is it real? Today s OR is a busy, bustling place for care of
nervous, scared, and acutely ill members of society. The OR requires dedicated staffing and scope of
service practices for care of these fragile patients trusting the staff to care for them during the
operation. The author of this paper will explore the scope of service for all OR s and determine
staffing models necessary for safety of patients and employees alike. Many individuals see the OR as
highly expensive area within the hospital due to equipment needs, instruments, supplies, suture,
dressings, and everything in between; but, what does a typical day cost the hospital to staff and
maintain the OR? How do long hours affect workplace and patient safety? The author will provide
knowledge of staffing costs for an OR. Nursing in the OR takes a village of healthcare professionals

Environmental Impacts Of Environmental Disasters
Introduction Environmental damage that is caused by just one individual is exclusively minor which
causes it to be unnoticed, whereas a major group of people, such as a large corporation harming the
environment at once causes major harm to society. More than a century of industrial development has
caused negative environmental impacts such as global warming, ozone depletion, and air and water
pollution. These are recognized as global environmental problems that need immediate solutions.
Climate change, as an international environmental issue, is getting a great deal of attention as it has
become a global issue. In the last few decades, there has been a heightened awareness of
environmental issues by governments, policy makers, advocacy groups, business firms, and the public
all over the world. The corporate role in this, the potentially most severe and all encompassing of
environmental disasters, is quite clear as business activities are effecting climate change negatively.
This paper will argue that in order to minimize the negative effect of environmental harm and climate
change, the undertakings of corporations should be structured and encouraged to perform in a socially
responsible manner. This will be examined through the discussion on the legal structure of
corporations and the desire of regulators and victims looking to hold them accountable for their
environmental harm. It will be followed with a description of the importance of corporate social
responsibility. This

The Severe Style In The Hellenistic Period
(P1) Grecian sculptures developed immensely from the Severe style in the period of transition to the
Classical period, eventually into the Hellenistic period. With experimentation of drapery and body
poses, the sculptures of the men and women, barbarians and gods became overwhelmingly lifelike and
exaggerated with emotion and musculature. Examples explored in this essay include the Transition/
Severe styled Kritios Boy and the Riace Warriors, the High Classical Caryatids from Erechtheion and
Doryphoros, the Fourth Century sculptures of Hermes and Dionysos and Apoxyomenos, and the
Hellenistic sculpture Laocoon.
(P2) The transition period between the Archaic period and the High Classical period had artists
starting the evolution with the sculpture. The Athenian Empire was at its height with a new

Throughout the process of reading this book I was shocked many times by the everyday acts of evil
against innocent people. It is sad to know that they are so common in our world today. Acts such as
robbery, rape and murder happen every day, and they don t always just take one thing from the
victims. As Alex often shows us, during the process of evil acts the victims are dehumanized and
beaten. The laws and regulations put in place today are supposed to protect people from ever
experiencing these horrid acts, yet even in Alex s story, little justice is done for those who suffer.
Society brings out the best and worst in people and often puts people in desperate situations, allowing
the darkness to come forth. People have become selfish, cold and heart less without a care for the
people around them. Our society and government today have created monsters and have done so

What Are Your Recommendations For Using Fossil Fuels And...
1. What are your recommendations for using fossil fuels and renewable energy sources?
The United States currently uses approximately one quarter of the world s total energy consumption
(Toossi). With around 322 million people inhabiting the United States, our population accounts for
just fewer than 5% of the total world population. That means that our 5% of the world s population is
using 25% of the world s energy! Something has to be done. To begin to understand why, we need to
break down our energy demands: 37% petroleum (used mostly for transportation), 25% natural gas
(spread out evenly between industrial, residential, commercial, and electricity generation), 21% coal
(mostly going towards electricity generation), 8% renewable energies (the majority of which is used
for electricity generation) and 9% nuclear electric power (100% of which is used to produce
electricity) (Toossi). Our main problem is our incredible need for fast cars and big trucks. If we as a
nation could come together to incentivize the use of public transportation over personal transportation
our petroleum use would decrease greatly. The burning of coal is also a huge problem in the United
States. It is a fossil fuel which is incredibly unclean and is a big culprit in the global warming issue we
see today. My energy policy would incentivize the use of nuclear energy which is a much cleaner
technology and has become increasingly safe in recent years. Only 9% of our energy is generated from

Both Political Cartoons portray Hillary as being dishonest and trying to escape to blame for her
criminal like actions. Yet, even though both may be similar, there are certain aspects that divide the
two and give them an individuality apart from their original message. To elaborate further on this, the
second image uses ethos to the degree in which Hillary is making unethical decisions in office, in
order to keep herself in office. It s similar to the first political cartoon, running on a theme of criminal
like behavior, but differs from the first one because in the second cartoon, she has a certain amount of
power in order to carry through with it. The political cartoons are also similar in the way that the
conversations that take place over the phone, are held in some sort of a secret matter. However the
second one differs from the first when it comes down to the subject criteria that is being discussed.
The conversation in the first one is a series of questions, while the second one is on a more demanding
basis. The tones in both images take a similar stance, setting up a very mysterious scene in both
political cartoons. Hillary s face in the cartoons has a very distinctive appearance about it, giving the
viewer the perception that she is up to no good. The only noticeable differences are the style she is
wearing, as well as the style of cartooning, however the overall message is that she has the look that
she knows what she did was wrong and it applies a very mysterious tone to what is taking place within
the cartoons scene. Finally, the last given similarity touches along the lines of both pathos and logos.
Each cartoon applies different small items to the scene, in order to breach the reader s emotional
appeal through the use of a message. For example, in the first image, Hillary has a computer server

Assessment Is The Process For The Student Progress And...
1.1 Assessment
Assessment is the process by which individual learning is assessed. Testing monitors the student
progress and can also be used as a measure of terminal or summative effectiveness of the
teaching/learning process.
The purpose of assessment can vary giving rise to the various type of assessment namely:
1.1.1 Initial assessment: Given prior to learner attending a class, helps to establish an agreed starting
point for the learner. Derrick and Gawn (2010) assert that effective initial assessment amongst other
things should establish any social, economic factors as well as learning difficulties or disabilities
which may have an impact on the learning of literacy and language. It provides an opportunity to

The purpose of which is to identify learner s strength and specific areas weakness. The result of a
diagnostic test is used to plan a learning program for the learner, setting relevant realistic goals with
the learner.
Within my organization, the diagnostic assessment designed by the Department for Education and
Skills is used with all learners. However, a major setback is that there is no assessment of speaking
and listening. I have found it useful as there are direct links to curriculum areas for development. This
helps to establish Individual learning Plans. Although as a group, there may be established learning
goals, the diagnostic assessment facilitates the tutor s ability to produce differentiating schemes of
work and lesson plans which will take into account Size or number of things the student is expected to
learn; Time allocated: It is expected that students who learn faster will need a shorter time to complete
classroom activities; Level of support :the amount of personal assistance required; Output: all learners
are not expected to give equal responses to instructions and Participation: All learners are not expected
to be equally involved in a learning task. The objective is meet the Individual needs, aims and
experiences of learners (LLUK,2007;Forlin and Lian ,2008)

The Importance Of Drama In Educational Drama
Research on dramatization activity may not always positively reported. In a non classroom setting,
Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic
presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news.
They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants
ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term of
drama or dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization is
used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or
rating benefits. Unlike Milburn and McGrail s study, this study will take the stance of drama or
dramatization activity as an intervention strategy in education that aims to foster students learning.
In 1934, John Dewey called for the urgency of involving creative expression and exploration in U. S
educational curriculum. Gallagher, et.al. (2017) noted that in and after that period of time, literature in
the United States started to emphasize the insertion of dramatic play or play based improvisation as a
key technique to situate students to express themselves creatively and develop language and thinking
skills, as well as for teachers to see the child s real self Gallagher, et.al., ( 2017) .
Moving forward to 1982, Brian Way (in Dillon and Way , 1981) , stated that

While instrumentalists audition with a jazz piece. During the auditions, members of Latin Ensemble
sit in and the section leader helps determine the new members.Unlike other ensembles, members of
Latin Ensemble do not have to audition again.
Latin Ensemble is a democracy not a dictatorship, Olinsky said, Not dictatorship in a bad way, like in
most ensembles it s good to have a musical director who runs everything. It s not uncommon and it s
not bad.
The members of the Tito Puente Orchestra that Baxter previously taught in New York City performed
for her 6th grade ensemble, The Four Aces. Baxter was then able to bring the music from this
orchestra to the Latin Ensemble here at Crane.
Latin Ensemble has access to all the tunes and charts that Tito Puente wrote, which usually cost
around $1,500. Latin music is now popular on campus due to Baxter s influence and desire to
introduce students to this fun, energetic, dancing music.
It fills a unique niche in Crane. according to Michael Sitton, Dean of Crane School of Music,
Alongside our classical orientated ensembles the latin ensemble is one of the ways we try to reflect a

The Nacirema Culture
Anthropologists are familiar of many cultures that spread across the world. They are usually not
surprised when it comes to bizarre cultures such as the Nacirema. The Nacirema is a North American
group, although it suggests that they came from the East little is known about their origins.
What makes the Nacirema so interesting are their beliefs and rituals, within their culture it is believed
their body is ugly, and has a tendency to be weak and attract diseases. This belief has led them to have
a shrine within each household dedicated to reverse these beliefs they have about their body; inside a
shrine is a charm box, potions, and holy water. Each charm serves a purpose to an illness they are
trying to cure, and is not disposed of until it fulfills it s duty. The charm box is usually filled; if not
overflowing, and they will usually forget what the charm was there to begin with. Ingredients for the
potions are decided by the medicine men, who receive gifts from their clients as payment. Holy water
is placed inside the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here patients who are very sick can seek treatment, but the medicine men will not accept a patient no
matter how ill if the gift is not generous enough. The ceremonies that take place are very harsh, but yet
fair proportions of patients survive and recover from the treatment. The neophyte entering the temple
must strip their clothes and expose their body to their natural functions. They are then bathed and
excrement is removed from their body. On the other hand, female patients are examined closely, then
manipulated, and prodded by the medicine man.
The Nacirema endure many hardships they have imposed on themselves. As anthropology is the study
of human kind nothing is alien to them, as it is among them without its power and guidance early man
could not have mastered his practical difficulties as he has done, nor could man have advanced to the
higher stages of

Mobile Phones And Cell Phones
1) Sleeping disorder :Most of the teens keep their smart phones nearby while sleeping to respond to
calls and texts . They feel pressurized to remain reachable around the clock. It leads to sleep
interruption and disruption. Teens also become irritable when they are sleep deprived. 2) Accidents:
Teens are more likely to respond to calls, text while driving, and riding than adults. They talk and text
on the phone without realizing that it can cost their lives. Even the U.S. Government Website for
Distracted Driving has proven that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in teens. 3) Increases
Anxiety: Relying on texting as a primary mode of communication can increase anxiety in teens.
Texting is instantly gratifying, but it also produces anxiety. The instant reply by the friend can bring
joy and elation. But in case of delayed response or no response, this same pleasure turns into
disappointment. 4) Cancer: Research shows that electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones
get absorbed in the tissues when we hold the phone for longer times. The nervous systems of teens are
still developing and have a greater risk of developing brain cancer from cell phones than adults. Cell
Phone Safety For Teens: Cell phones are not going anywhere, at least no anytime soon. So you need to
teach your teens about mobile phone safety and to use it responsibly. They also need to have agreed
boundaries for mobile phone usage. Here are some ways to avoid negative effects of cell

Merry Pranksters And The LSD
When hear the name Merry Pranksters what comes to your mind? Let me guess a group of young
individuals dressed in a joker costume running around throwing water balloons from roof tops or
shaking hands with strangers to taze them. Merry Pranksters were not exactly known for doing that,
but they were group of young adults who did pranks with LSD. For instance, they mixed LSD in a
bowl of Kool Aid in their parties to get their guests high and this was known as Electric Kool Aid Test.
In the 1960s, heroes of the counterculture Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey s Merry Pranksters, the Beatles
and the Grateful Dead embraced the practice of dropping acid, viewing it as a great way to party and
as the path to a higher consciousness (Ross). At the same time, in the sixties violence was prevalent
from Vietnam War, to protesters rebelling against the government and U.S. was at a brink of starting
World War 3 with the Soviet Union. As a result, this made the American people pessimistic about their
future, so they began to take LSD and drugs. We can see things in today s culture that were partially
inspired by the Merry Pranksters, such as using LSD in order to be connect with the self, two distinct
groups of LSD users and the revival of psychedelic movement. Merry Pranksters were famous for
using LSD and they used higher doses of LSD because they felt that they were in touch with the
nature spiritually and it also gave them sensations that they never felt before. In reality, LSD is a

Love makes giving up unthinkable and for many autistic children s parents, love is the only thing that

by Mark Haddon is a novel with complex characters who help build Christopher Boone, the
protagonist, into an independent individual. Throughout his life, Christopher has required specialized
assistance in his daily activities due to Aspergers Syndrome, and his father, Ed, is the only individual
who has been with him from the beginning. Ed Boone is a good father whose mistakes are completely

Ed is a very patient and gentle man who does not lose his temper very often, especially not in matters
relating his son. He is constantly under a lot of pressure and sometimes, being a human, he loses his
temper and cannot contain his anger. This is an understandable reaction considering the circumstances
Ed is under, his wife leaving him for another man, him lying to his son, working all day long, and,
most importantly, taking care of Christopher. His son describes him as a [...] level headed person,[...]
he didn t get angry as quickly and he didn t shout as often and this proves that Ed rarely loses his
temper and he does not harm his son, unless he is pushed to his limit (Haddon 82). Even if Ed does
lose his temper, he always apologises after, [...] I know I lose my rag occasionally. I know I get angry.
I know I shout. And I know I shouldn t. But I only do it because I worry about you, because I don t
want to see you getting into trouble, because I don t want you to get hurt , and being the loving parent
that he is, Ed makes sure Christopher knows how much he loves him (Haddon

In The Vietnam War, Mark Atwood Lawrence The Vietnam War In The Vietnam War, Mark Atwood Lawrence goes in depth with research from many different sides of the Vietnam war and accounts for the different events that took place during this time and the many elements that led to the war. He talks about the significance of the war and how it wasn t just another war. Lawrence also discusses the effect it had on not just our history but world history. Lawrence gives a visual of the war from all sides, from the earliest days of French colonization to the last helicopter fleeing the American embassy, but mainly focuses on the American involvement from 1965 to 1975. The same argument is used to evaluate U.S. military tactics: Successes on the battlefield petered out due to a fundamental flaw in strategic assumptions. Revisionists such as Mark Moyar will surely disagree, but Lawrence does represent the majority opinion among U.S. historians at the moment. His narrative begins well before American forces set foot in Vietnam, delving into French colonialism s contribution to the 1945 Vietnamese revolution, and revealing how the Cold War concerns of the 1950s led the United States to back the French. The heart of the book covers the American war, ranging from the overthrow of Ngo Dinh Diem and the impact of the Tet Offensive to Nixon s expansion of the war into Cambodia and Laos, and the final peace agreement of 1973. Finally, Lawrence examines the aftermath of the war, from the momentous liberalization Doi Moi in Vietnam to the enduring legacy of this infamous war in American books, films, and political debate. • 3. How Technology Has Changed The Business Environment CHAPTER 1: Key Issues: o The Impact of Technology: Technology as a whole has changed the business environment, and how it functions drastically over the past 25 years. The Internet was on CNN s top 25 innovations in the past 20 years ad being named the most influential innovations in the last quarter century. This innovation in technology has lead to an increase in globalization and changes how we communicate, transport and do business with each other in a more efficient way. o Invasion of Privacy: Technology advances in modern day society have made operating a business much easier, but these steps forward have also provided employers with the ability of sophisticated employee monitoring. This advance system is put in place to enhance worker productivity, however it has become a source of concern over a worker s privacy. This has also lead to other questions such as how far can a employer go in controlling employee behavior. o Workforce Diversity: In the past, companies took a melting pot approach to diversity assuming that people would somehow automatically assimilate into the existing culture. But today s managers have found out that employees di not set aside their cultural values and lifestyle preferences when they come to work. The challenge, therefore, is to make organizations more accommodating to diverse groups of people by addressing multiple different variables. o Work Process Engineering: Also referred to as work process reengineering, goes above and ... • 7. Technological Advancements In The Advertising Industry... During the 20th century, there were countless major technological advancements that changed society. Not only did it make people s lives easier, but it also changed the entertainment, communication, and leisure industries. With these new outlets to use in order to expand, the advertisement industry changed their strategies to adapt to new forms of communication. With all these new technologies, every moment of the day became an opportunity for ads on the radio, on TV, and while driving. Wherever technology went, a new form of advertisement followed. The first major technological advancement is the rise in popularity of the radio. During World War I, many people had radios because they wanted to listen to war news. However, after the war, people realized that it is a new vehicle of communication. At this time there was still a popular way of advertising the mail order catalog. The Sears catalog was the most popular, but people could order anything, even a full home, through these catalogs(SS15). These catalogs were great for ads for all different types of products, as well as helped the consumer by making the process quick and easy. Although the Great Depression was a time where there was a lack in luxuries, radios still prevailed. They were good a good source of entertainment for the whole family, because things like movies were now too expensive. By 1936 there was almost 1 radio per household even though it was an expense, it still was a staple technology. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

James stated at $1.10 an hour and in 6 years, his pay had only been enhanced to $1.23 an hour. James recalls a story of when he asked his supervisor for a raise stating that he was tired of being paid such low wages for his hard work. His supervisor, Phonse Bean responded with, Really, by you doing so many jobs, it cuts you high level pay down to lower pay, to medium grade. Actually, the way I got it figured, you re fifteen cents overpaid now an hour. But I m going to give you a nickel raise because I think you re worth it. Most of the employees assumed he would come back, but he assured them he was indefinitely retired. When the employees insisted the company wouldn t run without him their eerie prediction came true when White s closed just a year later in 1993. • 11. The Effect Of The On The Snap Program On Children And... The changes in the SNAP Program that would restrict certain purchases of foods and become more like the WIC Program would affect 45,766,672 individuals. As of now, SNAP participants are able to purchase multiple food items even if they do not have any nutritional benefit. The goal is to increase protein, fruit, vegetables and grain consumption among SNAP participants. When people are low income they tend to buy goods that are cheaper in nutrients. SNAP participants were least likely to consume any fruits or vegetables compared to those not participating in the program, regardless of cooking frequency. (Bleich and Wolfson 2015). Increasing protein, fruits, vegetables and grains will have a positive effect on the health of our SNAP participants. From what I have learned in class this semester and the research I have found many SNAP participants consume more processed foods due to price being in their budget, which is a direct relation to obesity in both children and adults. After multivariate adjustment, compared with nonparticipants, SNAP participants consumed 43% more sugar sweetened beverages, 47% more high fat dairy, and 44% more processed meats. (Leung et al 2013). To change the trend in this we need to limit the amount of sugary drinks and candy intake among SNAP participants. Not only are sugary drinks bad for your health but they are also a waste of money and that is exactly what SNAP program is doing wasting their money. Nationwide, SNAP was estimated to pay ... • 12. Teaching Methods For An Educator The ability to read is the utmost significant factor behind a child s educational outcome, thus for an educator to impart the skills of literacy on to a student is the most important aspect of primary school education. The art of reading is a multifaceted process that expands on spoken language, it requires the mastering of a progressive set of skills which nurture a phonemic and Phonological awareness, builds a proficiency in decoding competencies and requires the capability to implement comprehension strategies. An insight into these skills are outlined within a framework comprised of six dynamics commonly referred to as the big six . Doing this helps a teacher plan learning experiences that best harmonises with the needs of the child (Winch, Johnston, March, Ljungdahl, Holliday, 2014). It is good practise to retain these assessment results as the commencement of a running record on each child. Utilising running records enables teachers to secure a comprehensive and accurate assessment of a student s reading ability (Department of Education and Child Development, 2012). As this assessment information follows the progression of a student s reading development throughout their primary years it helps identify children that are struggling early in their journey (Department of Education and Child Development, 2012). Determining a student s level of phonological awareness, does the student hear, analyse and manipulate the sounds and syllables of spoken words? Do they understand speech is a combination of separate words? Does the child distinguish the individual sounds or phenomes that form syllables? Can they identify rhyming words? Do they blend or exchange sounds to make new word combinations? These are the questions educators need to firstly find answers too and secondly teach in order to tutor children in reading (Reid Lyon, 2008). It is crucial to build upon a child s phonemic awareness, if children struggle to isolate the sounds of spoken word, it will be difficult for them to relate these sounds to their represented letters (Fellows ... • 13. Hamlet And Laertes Similarities The historic play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the longest play with 4,042 lines and is the second most filmed story in the world. To develop a deeper understanding of the play, it is important to observe the similarities of the two characters; Prince Hamlet and Laertes. In the play, they are both young men whose fathers are murdered due to political conflict. These men have different father and son relationships but they mourn their father s deaths similarly. Even though they both study abroad and their beloved Ophelia is home in Denmark, these two scholars still manage to love and protect her. In spite of the distance, Laertes and Hamlet return and leave Denmark many times throughout the play. They both love a woman named Ophelia in different ways. Laertes loves Ophelia since it is his sister, and Hamlet loves her in a lustily way. Both Laertes and Hamlet react similarly when at Ophelia s funeral. Both jump into her grave, declaring their love for Ophelia. As Laertes vows revenge, Hamlet states he has in him something dangerous, telling Laertes: I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers. Could not, with all their quantity of love, make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her?. Different in approach, Hamlet and Laertes yet share similarities in matters of the heart. Both Laertes and Hamlet want to keep Ophelia safe from the people and customs of where she lives. Laertes takes on the big brother role and advises Ophelia to keep her virtue safe and stay away from Hamlet because all he is doing is using her. In Laertes s eyes, Hamlet must marry in order to suit the kingdom, so marrying the daughter of the king s right hand man would not benefit the kingdom in any way. Therefore he believes that Hamlet is just trying to take advantage of her. Later, Hamlet purposely acts cruelly towards Ophelia in order to protect her. He wants her to have no involvement in his plan to kill the king. Even though she betrayed him, he cannot possibly hate her, the proof is at her funeral. • 14. Snow Falling On Cedars And Snow Falling On Cedars Becoming the Bridge Between Two Worlds Second generation immigrants are often forced to become the bridge between two worlds, as their foreign parents hold on to cultural ties and traditions, while the children grow up in a Western society with contrasting ways of life. The works the End of East by Jen Sookfong Lee and the film Snow Falling on Cedars, directed by Scott Hicks, prove that a struggle for identity can be overcome if one overlooks the dissimilarities between two cultures. As seen in both works, the writers demonstrate how second generation immigrants are faced with the challenge of finding their identities, as they feel torn between their cultural practices and the influences of their Western upbringings; However, only after setting aside the differences that clash the two cultures are they truly able to find a balance between the two and discover who they are. Firstly, both the End of East and Snow Falling on Cedars involve second generation immigrant protagonists in North America that struggle to keep their parents happy and preserve their culture, while continuing to live their lives as individuals of the West. Hatsue, a Japanese American girl in Snow Falling on Cedars, grows up in the West. Iñárritu, through his 2014 film Birdman, both portray characters who reflect on their lives and become obsessed with leaving a lasting legacy, resulting in eventual self destruction. In his madness, Lear reflects on how he believes he was not a good king during his reign, hence affecting his legacy after his inevitable death, while Riggan Thomson s (Michael Keaton) play is his attempt at remaining relevant. Shakespeare s use of soliloquies and Iñárritu s use of Riggan s inner voice also both give the audience insight into the mind of the two characters. Both Lear and Riggan are arrogant, egotistical and ultimately ignorant to the surrounding world. Iñárritu and Shakespeare utilise the dialogue of other characters towards the protagonists, in albeit different ways, to show this. Shakespeare utilises the Fool to provide commentary for the audience. In the court of the king, the Fool s role was to provide entertainment through comedy, but Shakespeare portrays him as the only character telling Lear the truth and thus this is an example of dramatic irony. Through his anecdotes and commentary, the Fool reveals to Lear the truth, but in his ignorance the king does not acknowledge this. Iñárritu demonstrates this through the audial and visual manifestation of Riggan s younger self. While Shakespeare uses the Fool to tell Lear and the audience the truth, Riggan s subconscious furthers his disconnection from reality and self absorption. Additionally, Shakespeare uses eyes as a motif to emphasise this fatal blindness, attributed to age. The plucking out of Gloucester s eyes is also a direct link to this. Lear s crown is also used as a symbol of Lear s poor judgement; by splitting the kingdom between his daughters, Lear clovest his crown i th middle , which ultimately lead to the tragic consequences at the end of the play. Whether having been bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one s heart. In White Lies, Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos, perhapsing with logos, and vivid images with diction. A disheartening picture because kids may be kids, but a grown adult should be able to distinguish between right and wrong. Also, as a teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of cruelty is wrong. Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds for good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is showing that Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when Connie s father got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day... this makes the reader consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382). Also, Murphy makes one question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help Connie, condoning a lie teaches Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one wonder if there is a middle ground for right and wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong for good is cruel. The United States currently uses approximately one quarter of the world s total energy consumption (Toossi). With around 322 million people inhabiting the United States, our population accounts for just fewer than 5% of the total world population. That means that our 5% of the world s population is using 25% of the world s energy! Something has to be done. To begin to understand why, we need to break down our energy demands: 37% petroleum (used mostly for transportation), 25% natural gas (spread out evenly between industrial, residential, commercial, and electricity generation), 21% coal (mostly going towards electricity generation), 8% renewable energies (the majority of which is used for electricity generation) and 9% nuclear electric power (100% of which is used to produce electricity) (Toossi). Our main problem is our incredible need for fast cars and big trucks. If we as a nation could come together to incentivize the use of public transportation over personal transportation our petroleum use would decrease greatly. The burning of coal is also a huge problem in the United States. It is a fossil fuel which is incredibly unclean and is a big culprit in the global warming issue we see today. My energy policy would incentivize the use of nuclear energy which is a much cleaner technology and has become increasingly safe in recent years. Only 9% of our energy is generated from ... • 39. First Political Cartoon Of Hillary Clinton The next political cartoon that I observed has many similarities to the first one. It portrays Hillary Clinton lying down in a bed, covered by a blanket that states, Seal of The President of The United States. Above her is a description that states, 3 AM Phone Call, 2017. She is talking on the phone with someone and is telling them, You know the drill; stand down, blame a video, and send the details to my personal server. Similar to that of the first political cartoon, Hillary is still concealing her criminal behavior from the public s eye, and making excuses in order to avoid public scrutiny. Beyond the main details, there are a few small ones, such as the note from Bill Clinton that reads, Be back later tonight. Bill. It provides for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Political Cartoons portray Hillary as being dishonest and trying to escape to blame for her criminal like actions. Yet, even though both may be similar, there are certain aspects that divide the two and give them an individuality apart from their original message. To elaborate further on this, the second image uses ethos to the degree in which Hillary is making unethical decisions in office, in order to keep herself in office. It s similar to the first political cartoon, running on a theme of criminal like behavior, but differs from the first one because in the second cartoon, she has a certain amount of power in order to carry through with it. The political cartoons are also similar in the way that the conversations that take place over the phone, are held in some sort of a secret matter. However the second one differs from the first when it comes down to the subject criteria that is being discussed. The conversation in the first one is a series of questions, while the second one is on a more demanding basis. The tones in both images take a similar stance, setting up a very mysterious scene in both political cartoons. Hillary s face in the cartoons has a very distinctive appearance about it, giving the viewer the perception that she is up to no good. The only noticeable differences are the style she is wearing, as well as the style of cartooning, however the overall message is that she has the look that she knows what she did was wrong and it applies a very mysterious tone to what is taking place within the cartoons scene. Finally, the last given similarity touches along the lines of both pathos and logos. Each cartoon applies different small items to the scene, in order to breach the reader s emotional appeal through the use of a message. For example, in the first image, Hillary has a computer server next to her with all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a non classroom setting, Milburn and McGrail (1992) , conducted an experimental study to find whether a dramatic presentations of news stories on TV influence the audiences ability and accuracy in receiving news. They found that the exposure to the dramatized news stories significantly decreased participants ability to recall the information from the stories and reduced the complexity of the news. The term of drama or dramatization in this context of study is used in negative sense . That is, dramatization is used in reference to the ways TV stations exaggerate the presentation of the news for political or rating benefits. The Nacirema is a North American group, although it suggests that they came from the East little is known about their origins. What makes the Nacirema so interesting are their beliefs and rituals, within their culture it is believed their body is ugly, and has a tendency to be weak and attract diseases. This belief has led them to have a shrine within each household dedicated to reverse these beliefs they have about their body; inside a shrine is a charm box, potions, and holy water. Each charm serves a purpose to an illness they are trying to cure, and is not disposed of until it fulfills it s duty. • 46. Merry Pranksters And The LSD When hear the name Merry Pranksters what comes to your mind? Let me guess a group of young individuals dressed in a joker costume running around throwing water balloons from roof tops or shaking hands with strangers to taze them. Merry Pranksters were not exactly known for doing that, but they were group of young adults who did pranks with LSD. For instance, they mixed LSD in a bowl of Kool Aid in their parties to get their guests high and this was known as Electric Kool Aid Test. In the 1960s, heroes of the counterculture Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey s Merry Pranksters, the Beatles and the Grateful Dead embraced the practice of dropping acid, viewing it as a great way to party and as the path to a higher consciousness (Ross). At the same time, in the sixties violence was prevalent from Vietnam War, to protesters rebelling against the government and U.S. was at a brink of starting World War 3 with the Soviet Union. As a result, this made the American people pessimistic about their future, so they began to take LSD and drugs. We can see things in today s culture that were partially inspired by the Merry Pranksters, such as using LSD in order to be connect with the self, two distinct groups of LSD users and the revival of psychedelic movement. Merry Pranksters were famous for using LSD and they used higher doses of LSD because they felt that they were in touch with the nature spiritually and it also gave them sensations that they never felt before.
