Conflict Theory And Labeling Theory
Conflict theory and labeling theory are two similar theories in the world of crime. It has been debated
whether or not there is a clear line separating the two theories. By evaluating the two theories, the
differences between them can become more obvious and it becomes easier to separate the two. In
addition to conflict theory and labeling theory, there is another type of theories that are used to explain
crime. These theories focus more on a criminal s lifetime and how their criminal records have evolved
over time. Two of the leading theories in this realm of criminology are Moffit s theory of life course
persistent offenders and Sampson and Laub s age graded theory of informal social control. These
theories both explain why people commit or don t commit crime. There are similarities between the
theories and also differences. By analyzing all four of these theories, a better understanding can be
gained related to crime.
The traditional view of crime has sometimes been that if a government is tougher on crime, the crime
rates will go down. There are theories that suggest the state interventions can reduce the crime rates
and are key to solving areas of high crime. However, labeling theory challenges all of this. This theory
suggests that state intervention can actually increase crime rates. By assigning labels to criminals and
felons , the state is deepening the problems that are getting people to turn to crime in the first place.
Labeling theory states that the state

The Pros And Cons Of Personal Privacy
In this paper I will analyze the interpretations of privacy and personal liberty employed by the rulings
of United States Supreme Court cases such as Griswold v. Connecticut, Roe v. Wade, and Planned
Parenthood v. Casey, and propose a notion of privacy and personal liberty that strikes an ideal balance
between individual autonomy and the interest of the state. In Griswold v. Connecticut, the leadership
of Planned Parenthood were convicted of violating a Connecticut statute which prohibited the use of
any drug or article to prevent conception because they provided information on contraception and
prescribed a contraceptive device for use by the wife of a married couple. The United States Supreme
Court ruled that the Connecticut statute was unconstitutional.1 The court reasoned that the relatively
vague nature of several constitutional amendments left room for the implicit establishment of a
broader range of rights and protections than those which are more explicitly mentioned in the text of
each amendment. Several justices drew from a number of different amendments to support their final
ruling including the self incrimination clause of the fifth amendment, the ninth amendment, and the
due process clause of the fourteenth amendment. The key effect of this ruling was that the Supreme
Court established an explicit reference to an individual s constitutional right to privacy and it
functionally pitted that right against the interest of the state. In this case, the Supreme Court

Examples Of Mistakes In American History
Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical
failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to
the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from
history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something
from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or
in the future.
In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove
George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past
have not appeared until today.
Firstly, Vietnam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my
lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes
campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican
conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4,
1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax
increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we
see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break
down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9)
Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for
lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than
$250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund
to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word.
As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says
something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become
unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a
mistake from the 41st president or we can say, from the

Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis
11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the Pleistocene
epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has been described
as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is thought to coincide
with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene technology became
more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early anthropogenic hypothesis
was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part hypothesis in which
Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within the atmosphere by
deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by irrigating rice, they
also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last several thousand years and
during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a lot of attention with many
people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will be exploring the many
arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating whether or not human kind
could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. One of the parts of Ruddimans three
part early anthropogenic hypothesis focusses on the anomalous rise in methane after 5,000 years. By
looking at the past three interglaciations methane levels should have fallen from ~700 ppb to a level

The Importance Of Public Outreach
Public Outreach
Public outreach is a role that I ve become increasing involved in since our team redeveloped our
outreach tabling approach for public events and markets this past year. At events like the Wednesday
Night Market and West End Farmers Market, I ve engaged with the public to spread Storm Water and
Creeks information as it pertains to the NPDES permit. I ve also continued to develop and supply
outreach materials for public access City office buildings and community centers, including items like
the new Creek Trails of Santa Rosa Map and Guide and the brochure Only Rain down the Drain and

River Watershed Residents.

The City s most active creek restoration site is Lower Colgan Creek Phase 1, which Sean McNeil had
taught me to care for by leading public events, monitoring vegetation succession, and preforming on
site watering and maintenance. During the summer of 2017, I served as the lead for operating a water
trailer and distributing water to juvenile restoration plants at the Colgan Creek restoration reach. Since
learning about the native, ecological, and historic context of the Colgan Creek restoration reach, I ve
been able to share this knowledge with SAC, SCYEC, other interns and co workers, and volunteers at
every opportunity while cultivating the Colgan Creek restoration area on a minimum of a weekly
basis.
In addition to lightly monitoring several small scale completed restoration projects across the City
including Lornadell Creek at Galvin Park and Paulin Creek at Chanate Rd., I ve initiated several small
restoration projects of my own. In response to a fire just downstream of the Prince Memorial
Greenway, I reseeded a multi acre open space with native grass seed to reduce environmental
degradation and erosion runoff. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, I coordinated a
volunteer native planting activity near Flat Rock Park on Santa Rosa Creek, which now has a

Social And Economic Causes And Disadvantages Of Homelessness
As of 2015, about 567,708 people experienced homelessness on a single night (National Alliance to
End Homelessness, n.d.). My interest to research the information needs of this user group arose
because this is a group in society that is sometimes overlooked and underrepresented. Additionally, I
felt like the social and economic factors of this group is unique and the accessibility or barriers to
information can heavily impact the economic mobility of people in this user group. In the article, Are
the economically poor information poor? Does the digital divide affect the homeless and access to
information? Author Julie Hersberger analyzes the information needs of those who are homeless, their
information seeking behavior, their sources of information, and how useful the Internet is as a means
to gain useful information. However, before examining these key points it s important to understand
the causes of homelessness because it can give an insight on the types of information this user group
would need. Hersberger states that there are several, if not many causes of homelessness. Some of
these causes include lack of affordable housing, poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, mental
illness, high costing health care, and addiction (Hersberger, 2003). To gather data that would give
insight into the information needs, information seeking behavior, information sources, and the
usefulness of the Internet as a tool to gain information, the author conducted a qualitative

Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter
Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from
laughing. In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential
feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson,
there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of
ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes
laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are
feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient,
either. We have feelings of superiority toward people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour,
incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of
contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and
landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external
polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire.
This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer,
and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy
and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity
are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are
characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin
means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one
fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with
absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity:
something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so
forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works
with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns.
The future turns out like the past. But sometimes we perceive or imagine a thing whose parts or
features violate our mental

The Earthquake Of India, China, Bangladesh, And Bhutan
On April 25, 2015 the country of Nepal and the surrounding countries of India, China, Bangladesh,
and Bhutan experienced an earthquake with the magnitude of 7.8 (Kumar). The earthquake triggered
an avalanche on Mount Everest killing nineteen people. Another avalanche was triggered in Langtang
Valley a reported two hundred and fifty people are missing. Aftershocks continued well there after one
reaching as high as 6.7. The death toll has not reached well over 7,250 (Kumar). The number of
injured is 14,122. The UN estimates well over three million people need food and other assistance.
Thousands of people have fled the areas especially around Kathmandu fearing aftershocks or trying to
get to family member s homes in remote areas. At one point Nepal was one of the least urbanized
countries in the world (NORMAN). They are now accelerating in the world of urbanization.

buildings are usually pagoda style and shikhara style (NORMAN). Many of the new buildings are
well maintained, the older residential buildings and smaller temples have fallen into despair

In Nature By Ralph Waldo
The essays Nature and self reliance almost support each other in the way they depict self respect as
not just an aspect of life, but as life Itself and anything less is more dead than any end one could meet
under most any circumstances. They simply approach the subject with different idea s. This kind of
thing of course is to be expected due to the fact the author published both books. Oddly enough the
books, both reference nature and self reliance only each one is more dedicated to one subject over the
other. Really, they re the same book simply written in different stages of his life and thus seen From
different point of view. Ralph Waldo almost makes an attempt at a prophetic call on what will happen,

One example of Waldo s extreme fervor for Self gratification in Nature is I become a transparent eye
ball; I am nothing; I see all believing himself some kind of all seeing disembodied eye god simply
because he did what he wanted and abandoned his civilized nature. Just as soon an example of zealous
in self reliance Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal
palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at
last sacred, but the integrity of our own mind. Absolve you to yourself, and you shall have the suffrage
of the world. basically saying that if one is to claim they are mature enough and they claim to be an
adult then they will not conform simply because everyone else is doing it. That nothing is as holy as
what makes your mind your, mind and not someone else s. Again, similarities and differences are
present everywhere, Nature makes another claim to some form of dogmatic connection to nature. Self
reliance on the other hand makes the claim that if one is not strong enough will use to make such an
claim or some other they are dead by every sense but name. He has such a outlandish look on the way
humans work and think that it is very obvious why he and civilization had a falling out, no group of

I do not define myself by my physical abilities, above all else I see myself as a scholar, one always

can be defined as, exposure to danger, harm, or loss. Given that definition, it can be understood why I
wouldn t risk much, let alone run cross country. Long distance running is seen as dangerous because
of how tolling it can be on the body. Despite that I had no prior training, I participated anyway, even
though the odds weren t in my favor. After my first two years of highschool, I learned that I lacked
motivation. This was because academics have always come easily to me, so I saw no need to put forth

Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing
The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave
Michaela Daly
ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of adulthood and
house formation . Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29, young
individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both social and
economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This research
project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such independence engage
in share housing.
Background
Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid twentieth century (Goldsheider
DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students,
share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage was
the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home
(Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to
adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of spousal status with the
formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon Heath 2001b). The wealth of literature on the transition to
adulthood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overarching enquiries of this research seek to determine: What age do young adults move into
share houses? Was the move into a share house voluntary or involuntary? Are economic
considerations apparent in the choice to join a share house? To what degree do social considerations
influence their choice? How is independence impacted by living in a share house? Researching these
questions will provide insight into the changing attitudes towards the traditional forms of household
and transition to adulthood, as well as how young adults perceive expectations of

1.1. Authentication
Describe how and why authentication credentials are used to identify and control access to files,
screens, and systems. Include a discussion of the principles of authentication such as passwords,
multifactor authentication, biometrics, and single sign on.
Authentication credentials are used to control access to sensitive data or systems by making it hard for
people to get into the system who shouldn t have access. Passwords and usernames are a good start

Whoever has the responsibility to keep the data safe is probably the one responsible for dictating
access.
1.2.2. Mandatory access control
Describe how and why mandatory access control will be used.
Mandatory access is used to authenticate actions between a subject and an object. In order for a
subject to access an object it must pass a set of authentication rules.
1.2.3. Role based access control
Describe how and why role based access control will be used.
RBAC is a very efficient way to control access to resources. This is because access is granted to select
roles based on what the needs each role has to complete its job. Then, the person or program is
assigned to the role and thus will only be granted the access granted to the role they are assigned.
1.3. Remote access
Describe the policies for remote user access and authentication via dial in user services and Virtual
Private Networks (VPN)
The policies for remote access, authentication via dial in user services, and VPN s has to be more strict
than with general authentication and access within the work place. While there are ways for a hacker
to get into the system while following the usual work place policies, it would probably be much easier
to get in by one of these methods. When accessing resources remotely it is important to have added
authentication methods such as security questions or possibly some kind of portable biometric device
which can scan a part of the user and then send

Essay about Cults and Their Leaders
Cults and Their Leaders
For many years, cult leaders always had a psychological hold on their followers minds. Whether it
was to kill other people or to kill themselves, they did it without question. Some cult leaders used fear,
violence and guilt as a means of a weapon to control the minds of their followers. Other cult leaders
used persuasive and spiritual speeches that made their followers believe they were doing good and
fulfilling God s plan. Because cult leaders are powerful through psychological offenses, the people
that belong to their cults are brainwashed into doing things they wouldn t normally do in their right
state of mind.

The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines cult as: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious;
also: its body of adherents. Indeed, any religion involving unconditional worship and unquestioning
obedience to God could be labeled as a cult (using the derogatory suggestion of the word), since such
a religion would have that high level of dependency, obedience, and unwavering compliance ascribed
to cults by definition. Many mainstream religions still require their members to believe in God
unquestioningly, to have faith that he is good and that what he does is good, to consider one s own
wants and needs as unimportant while accepting the will of God as paramount. All of these are
certainly characteristics commonly attributed to cults, but while it would not be unreasonable to apply
this definition of a cult to any dogmatic religion that requires strict compliance with God s word and
will as a condition of membership, the notion of applying the word cult to Christianity, Islam,
Judaism, or any other major world religion today is considered absurd. There are those who make this
very claim: that those who worship God fit the classic depiction of cult members in their dogmatism,

In the play The play of Kes by Barry Hines, the main character, Billy, is persistently bullied. He is
belittled, discouraged and threatened. This has hurt him mentally and physically to the point of

Jud, who is Billy s older half brother, taunts and terrorizes him daily. Jud enjoys sending threats
towards Billy such as I ll murder you when I get home. which implies that Billy will get hurt later on
(physical abuse). Also, this will traumatize Billy and make him live for the rest of the day in fear,

On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler
ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life,
others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper
presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and
Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the
analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of
value judgment. In conclusion, I point to some important theoretical assumptions which underlie the
positions of both thinkers despite all the other differences between them. In at least ... Show more

Hume on Passion and Value
The relation between passion and value in Hume s philosophy has been repeatedly discussed. (3) In
contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion
before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4)
However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion.
One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the
other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions;
and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the
theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly
in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the
theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which,
as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the
descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do
not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is
an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be
discussed here.

What is the true definition of education? Is it the process of learning or does that term just address the
schools setting? Is education what a person learns throughout his or her lifetime or is it just what they
learn in the twelve to sixteen years they attend school? These are all questions being asked by not only
myself but the entire nation. We have seen much change to the educational atmosphere throughout its
long existence, but we who are living thorough it now, must decide whether these changes are having
a positive or negative effect. Throughout the educational history change is one word that has stayed

2000 US Presidental Election Essay

The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in
history as one of the most closest elections¡¦ in US history. It also goes down as one of the most
controversial. The final decision was based on just a few hundred votes in Florida. The controversy
began when the media prematurely declared the winner twice based solely on exit polls. They finally
conceded that the Florida count was just too close to predict. It would take a month before the election
was ultimately certified after numerous court challenges and vote recounts. Republican candidate

George W. Bush was no stranger to politics. His father is George H. Bush, the 41st President of the

state of Texas as Governor. Early in his second term as Governor, plans were being constructed for his

he was the best man for the position given his history in elected and appointed offices. Cheney¡¦s

Hypnosis Research Paper
The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of hypnosis is usually a magician convincing a
person to act like a chicken, however, hypnosis is actually an approach that doctors can use to treat
pain, depression, anxiety, phobias, and more. Hypnosis is a state in which a person appears to be under
a trance and is extremely concentrated (Brandt). It is not a new concept. In fact, hypnosis has been
used by the ancient Egyptians over 2,000 years ago (healing power). In the 1770s, the Austrian
physician Franz Anton Mesmer began to study hypnosis scientifically. More recently, it was used
during World War I and World War II to treat soldiers who experienced post traumatic stress disorder
and other mental disorders (World Book). There are some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be used to make patients less nervous before a surgery and can comfort them during recovery. It
can also be used to combat the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, or a chronic illness (World
Book). Hypnosis can also help the 25% of Americans who avoid and fear the dentist. After a five
minute hypnosis session, patients can be relaxed enough to receive novocaine and the treatment they
need inexpensively and without medication (healing power). Finally, hypnosis can help burn victims.
These people must have their dead skin removed every day for up to a few months. The process is so
painful that most patients must be given powerful painkillers that can be addictive and can cause
confusion, gastrointestinal problems, and breathing trouble. Hypnosis can relax the patient and can
allow them to go through the treatment without experiencing pain. The hypnosis session is
inexpensive and does not require addictive medication (healing power). Despite the evidence that
supports the fact that hypnosis is a legitimate approach to treating conditions, many graduate schools
have little hypnosis training in their psychology programs (Smith). This needs to change so that more
people can become trained hypnotists so the approach can become more widespread. As previously
stated, it would benefit hospitals financially and patients physically. It is free, can treat a variety of
conditions, has no side effects, and is not addictive. Dr. Spiegel believes that it could even be used in
place of addictive opiates. More time and money must be put into research on hypnosis and its
practice as it could save hospitals and patients money in the long run and could help a variety of
patients heal

Everyday Use Heritage
In Everyday Use by Alice Walker, there is a clear depiction of heritage and what it is; equally, there is
also the image of how it may be construed. In the story, the reader is introduced into the life of an
African American family who live in a small house and struggle financially. It is a life that has been
lived by many throughout in history. Through the use of symbolism, Walker interprets the American
Dream as unique to each individual and the possibility to lose it in the chaos of life. Immediately, the
reader is introduced to a family who doesn t live at the top of the socioeconomic pyramid. A family
who, although live comfortably compared to many, still maintain the ideals of which they came from.

Collectively, these will lead to more opportunities for prosperity and success. These ideals are rooted
from the Declaration of Independence, which states that, All men are created equal with the right to
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. It is clear to see that in Everyday Use, siblings of the same
family have completely opposite outcomes in life. As Dee chooses to live a different life of that which
she was brought into, and Maggie s choosing the path of inheritance, culture, and tradition. In the eyes
of the world, it would seem that Dee is living the American Dream ; however, in the eyes of her
family, Maggie is the one living the dream. She is true to their culture and traditions, which they hope
she will keep alive. This is perhaps the most important thing that the family has to pass on. She may
not be intelligent in the sense of learning, but Maggie has the ability to pass down the family traditions

The Symbolism Of Another Brick In The Wall
Sean Leahy, an Australian cartoonist released a political cartoon Lazarus quits PUP to satirically
represent the departure of several members of the Palmer United Party, which was created and run by
Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer. The cartoon itself is a re creation of the nursery rhyme
Humpty Dumpty, in which he falls of a brick wall. Leahy s cartoon displays Humpty Dumpty as
Palmer, who is falling besides a deteriorating brick wall. Four specific bricks are of interest as three
have been displayed with the surnames Douglas, Judge and Lambie. The brick adjacent to Clive is
displayed with a face, singing, We don t need no thought control which is a lyric from Another Brick
in the Wall , a song created by Pink Floyd. The amalgamation ... Show more content on

A notable aspect of irony presented in the cartoon has been shown with the placement of the brick
wall. The characteristics of brick walls are strong, firm and robust which is ironic, as the wall in the
cartoon is shown curved and deteriorating. Another element of irony in the cartoon is the
representation of Palmer as Humpty as Humpty Dumpty is interpreted as a kind figure worthy of
assistance as the most known iteration of the rhyme states that all the king s horses and all the king s
men couldn t put humpty together again (Wikipedia, 2015). This is ironic as multiple reports state that
members of the PUP abandoned the party due to the mistreatment by Palmer. (theage, businessinsider,
2015) Within the cartoon, Leahy has provoked the thought of irony, while simultaneously displaying
parody. Parody, the final satirical device, has been deployed by Leahy to further ridicule the PUP. The
artwork is a parody of Humpty Dumpty. Having Palmer as Humpty falling off the brick wall has
represented the nursery rhyme. However in this iteration of Humpty Dumpty the brick wall is
crumbling with him, ridiculing the fact that most of his political party have separated to become
independent politicians, due to Palmers actions. Leahy in his cartoon has used parody to ridicule the

Frida Kahlo s Oil Painting
The featured work is an oil painting on canvas titled Self Portrait with Thorn Necklace created by
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in 1940. The work features a representation of the artist herself wearing a
white garment, necklace made from thorns, ribbons in her hair, and butterfly hair pins. The artist s
facial expression is blank and emotionless. The artist is also portrayed with a monkey behind her right
shoulder and a black cat behind her left shoulder as well as dragonfly like insects whose bodies are
budding flowers. The monkey in the painting is looking down at its hands which are holding a thorn
connected to the thorn knot around her throat. The cat is in a predatory position in which it appears to
be about to pounce on its prey. The thorns wrapped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attached to the center of the thorn necklace is a dead hummingbird which hangs down toward her
breast. In the background, there is large plant leaves showing a sliver of the sky at the top of the
painting. Kahlo designs a strong, unified, and symmetrical composition using the elements of art and
principles of design. The painting is representational in subject matter, and the aesthetic style is clearly
surreal. The composition style is a traditional bust portrait, it is a closed composition confining the
main subject of the painting within the frame. The artist creates balance within the composition by
using the light values of the sky at the top and bright white garment in the bottom portion of the scene.
There is a contrast between the neutral tones of the foreground to the cool color scheme of the
background. The composition also reveals a symmetrical element. If the viewer was to draw an
imaginary line down the middle of the frame the two sides would be evenly balanced. The pattern
created by the lines in the large leaves create a rhythmic background that enhances the images in the
foreground. The element of space is used to create a frame within a frame in the painting.

Aquinas Five Proof Essay
Disproving Aquinas Fifth Proof Saint Thomas Aquinas is famous for his five intellectual proofs
describing the existence of God. Aquinas five proofs are famous amongst Catholics and are widely
viewed as evidence of Gods existence. The basis of Aquinas fifth proof is that all things work towards
a final cause, and act in a manner that is generally harmonious. An entity must direct this universal
harmony, and that entity is God. Aquinas fifth proof from Intellectual design , specifically fails to
definitively prove the existence of God based on lack of scientific proof, as well as overall logic.

and love, neither of which is valid. From Aquinas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Darwinism is a theory of biological evolution; put simply, it means that all living things originated
from one common ancestor and the strongest survive while the weak eventually die off. For years this
theory has been scientifically proven. There is solid evidence that humans today have similar features
to Neanderthals, who have similar features to monkeys and gorillas. Thus proving, that humans
descended from a different organism. As for plants and animals, there is evidence that many animals
and plants evolve from animals and plants that are already extinct. For example, reptiles, such as
lizards, birds, and crocodiles are all descendants of dinosaurs. Also, this proves Darwin s idea that the
weak eventually die off. Animals and plants today still show traits of animals and plants that existed
millions of years ago because that species died off in order for the new species that exists now to be
created. It is a scientific cycle where we, as organisms, slowly become stronger species as time goes
on. This being said, it does not make any logical sense that there is some greater being who makes
everything happen, when it is clear that everything is scientific and has a logical

Edward Scissorhands Character Analysis
Individuality can be an admired gift, but it is often buried under society s illogically perfect
expectations. The famous film director, Tim Burton, known for directing movies such as Edward
Scissorhands and Alice in Wonderland, proves in several thrilling adventures. He shows that
uniqueness is a strength, not a weakness, even if it means being an outcast or misfit. Through two of
his films, Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children and Edward Scissorhands, showcases the
message of identity is preferable to conformity.

Edward s actions speak very loudly, louder than his odd hands, dark clothing, or strange/awkward
behaviors. The show of loyalty proves Burton s message of identity. This message is also showcased
in the movie Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children. Basically, all of the Peculiars are the
outcasts of the film. When Jake first enters the loop and meets Miss Peregrine, she says a quote that
beautifully supports the message. As Miss Peregrine explains to Jake what Peculiars are, she says, We
are what s known in common towns as peculiar. Because our abilities don t fit in the outside world, we
live in places like this where no one can find us. Miss Peregrine. This quote helps to show the
audience that the misfits couldn t fit in, but as the movie continues, the peculiars prove themselves as
brave, merciful people with strong characters. In contrast, the times we do get to see the townspeople,
they seem to be reckless, moody, unstable people. The words both sets of characters say shows just
how different they are and just how much of a good thing being an outcast can be.
The contrasting settings between the two main different places also helps to accent the difference
between individuality and conformity. Typically, in each of Burton s films, there is a dark, eerie
setting, and a bright, vivid setting. The example of vivid versus eerie settings

How Did The Ionic Order Influence Greek Architecture
Let s delve back into the past and see the magnificent architecture that screamed power from every
curve.... ever pillar. Greek architecture used 3 main styles that were incorporated all over Greece and
is still practiced this day and age.
The first style is the Doric Order which emerged around the late seventh century and was predominant
in Greek temple constructions and major building; the most notable being the Parthenon in Athens.
The Doric order is characterized by a plain column that rests on a stylobate that did not have a base.
The columns are fluted and the square spaces in the vertical plaques and metopes are either painted or
sculpted to provide decoration to the plain columns.
The next style is the Ionic order. The Ionic order was developed during the mid sixth century and the
columns on Naxos. The Ionic order is known mainly from the graceful proportions where it is more of
a slender and elegant style compared to the Doric order who is stockier and supportive. Ionic order
uses base supports at the bottom of the columns and volutes (scroll like ornaments).
The final order is the Corinthian Order; the last classical order of Greek architecture. This order uses

Investors’ On-Off Relationship With Emerging Market Debt
Investors on off relationship with emerging market debt (EMD) was again on display during much of
2016: annual performance reached double digit heights by September, before falling back in the three
days following the US elections. Despite this seesaw pattern of returns, EMD finished the year as one
of the best performing fixed income markets, underscoring the merit of having a strategic allocation to
the asset class. Less obvious is what, if anything, investors can do to reap consistently more of the
gains, and less of the volatility. The reasons for investing in EMD are becoming increasingly relevant

All of them can impact significantly the performance and risk profile of EMD assets. Second, the
diversity of the asset class should mean more attendant alpha opportunities for investors, but the

Finally, the asset class is particularly vulnerable to short term surprises, as evidenced last year by
November s US elections. We believe EMD differs from traditional developed market fixed income in
several ways (see the chart below), and accommodating for these differences is an important step

Canada s National Health System
Canada
Historical factors play a fundamental role in the evolution of a nation s health system. (Starr P., 1982)
The healthcare in Canada on 18th century was based in independent physicians who provided services
at the patient s homes. Hospitals were associated with the poor and were avoided due to the lack of
care provided. Although the government s role in healthcare through the 19th century was limited, the
first hospital established in Quebec in the year 1639. Furthermore, the first medical schools were
opened in the 1820s (Warren P., 2008). The nation s growth created a simultaneous growth in the
hospital setting. After the opening of the Montreal General Hospital on 1819, the education of the
physicians and the patient care began to shift to the hospitals. (Bernier J, 2003). After the First World
War and the occurrence of the infectious pandemics, the federal government created the national
hygiene grants program to fund the efforts for coordinated public health. The first school of public
health was opened in 1920. (Bernier J, 2003). It is worth mentioned that Frederick Banting and J.J.R.
Macleod of the University of Toronto won the Nobel Prize in 1923 for discovering insulin. (The Nobel
Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1923) The economic downturn around 1930 created the need of
change and embraced the ideas of a public health system and an active role of government.
After the World War II, Hospital Services Plan was implemented. The program provided

Working Environment, Performance Management Essay
We define performance management as the process through which managers ensure that employees
activities and outputs are congruent with the organization s goals (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright,
2016 ). In today s working environment, performance management allows dialogue around
performance improvement, which happens to be a system that many company s have adapted. With
there being high competition to build up an exemplary employee and be able to maintain them
different companies are rewarding and recognizing employees in different ways. There are companies
that believe that in order to motivate and retain an employee there has to be an incentive. However,
there are other companies that think the complete opposite, and believe that an employee will work
harder and be more motivated when the job is a non commission base role or an incentive is expected.
Argumentation/Discussion There are two different perspectives when it comes it incentives. The
argument for companies that believe incentives are a great way to drive the growth and profit of the
company is as follow. Incentives motivate an employee, and there are experts that state that bonuses,
rewards and incentives attract an employee to improve their work performance, and meet deadlines. It
is believed that incentives creates loyalty and trust between the employee and its employer improving
its relationship. There was a research with MIT students, and they were given a set of challenges and

The Effect Of Fast Reactants On The Rate Of A Chemical...
Introduction:
The measure of how fast reactants are converted into products is the rate of a chemical reaction. Some
reactions occur more quickly than others, but the reaction rate can be made faster or slower depending
on certain factors. Concentration, surface area, temperature, and the presence of a catalyst are all
factors that can affect the rate of a reaction. A reaction is considered complete when the entirety of at
least one of the reactants has been converted into products. If the end of a reaction is indicated by a
color change or the formation of a precipitate, then the reaction rate can be found by measuring the
time from when the reactants were mixed to when the color change occurred or the precipitate was
formed.
A rate law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall order of a reaction is calculated by finding the sum of the individual orders of the
reactants.
During the lab, while the concentration of one reactant varied, the concentration of the other reactant
was held constant. The experiment was completed in this particular manner because the concentration
of one reactant had to remain the same in order to discover how varying the concentration of the other
reactant affected the reaction rate. Learning how to control the rate of a chemical reaction is a big
advantage. For example, knowing that the rusting of iron can be slowed by painting the metal or
covering it with certain substances is beneficial. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the
rate law of a chemical reaction by calculating the change in the rate of the reaction as the
concentration of the reactants are varied.

  • 2. Conflict Theory And Labeling Theory Conflict theory and labeling theory are two similar theories in the world of crime. It has been debated whether or not there is a clear line separating the two theories. By evaluating the two theories, the differences between them can become more obvious and it becomes easier to separate the two. In addition to conflict theory and labeling theory, there is another type of theories that are used to explain crime. These theories focus more on a criminal s lifetime and how their criminal records have evolved over time. Two of the leading theories in this realm of criminology are Moffit s theory of life course persistent offenders and Sampson and Laub s age graded theory of informal social control. These theories both explain why people commit or don t commit crime. There are similarities between the theories and also differences. By analyzing all four of these theories, a better understanding can be gained related to crime. The traditional view of crime has sometimes been that if a government is tougher on crime, the crime rates will go down. There are theories that suggest the state interventions can reduce the crime rates and are key to solving areas of high crime. However, labeling theory challenges all of this. This theory suggests that state intervention can actually increase crime rates. By assigning labels to criminals and felons , the state is deepening the problems that are getting people to turn to crime in the first place. Labeling theory states that the state ... • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Personal Privacy In this paper I will analyze the interpretations of privacy and personal liberty employed by the rulings of United States Supreme Court cases such as Griswold v. Connecticut, Roe v. Wade, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and propose a notion of privacy and personal liberty that strikes an ideal balance between individual autonomy and the interest of the state. In Griswold v. Connecticut, the leadership of Planned Parenthood were convicted of violating a Connecticut statute which prohibited the use of any drug or article to prevent conception because they provided information on contraception and prescribed a contraceptive device for use by the wife of a married couple. The United States Supreme Court ruled that the Connecticut statute was unconstitutional.1 The court reasoned that the relatively vague nature of several constitutional amendments left room for the implicit establishment of a broader range of rights and protections than those which are more explicitly mentioned in the text of each amendment. Several justices drew from a number of different amendments to support their final ruling including the self incrimination clause of the fifth amendment, the ninth amendment, and the due process clause of the fourteenth amendment. The key effect of this ruling was that the Supreme Court established an explicit reference to an individual s constitutional right to privacy and it functionally pitted that right against the interest of the state. In this case, the Supreme Court ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Mistakes In American History Nobody is perfect, so everyone all makes mistakes. Human created history and even historical failures. Some people believe that we usually repeat what we did wrongly before. It sounds similar to the British author George Bernard Shaw s idea: We learn from history that we learn nothing from history. However, in my opinion, that idea is completely not correct, because we must learn something from the mistakes we made in the past, so that we would not do them one more time at the present or in the future. In my essay, I will use three examples from American history (from 1877 to the present) to disprove George Bernard Shaw s statement. They are all the mistakes which the American made in the past have not appeared until today. Firstly, Vietnam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bush used to say a sentence which was very famous and seemed as his promise. That was Read my lips: No new taxes . However, in June 1990 Bush abandoned his Read my lips. No new taxes campaign pledge and acknowledged that new or increased taxes were necessary. Many Republican conservatives were critical of this shift, and his popularity ratings fell immediately. (8) On March 4, 1992, he said: I thought this one compromise, and it was a compromise, would result in no more tax increases. I thought it would result in total control of domestic discretionary spending. And now we see Congress talking about raising taxes again. And some in Congress are talking about trying to break down the spending caps. And so I m disappointed and given all of that, yes, a mistake. (9) Let s talk about an example of kept promises. Barak Obama promised to Extend the Bush tax cuts for lower incomes and he kept his word. He extended the Bush tax cuts for those making less than $250000 (couples) or $200000(single). (10) He promised to Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to invest in peer reviewed manufacturing processes, and once again he kept his word. As a president, it would be terrible if that president broke his promise to the public. Once he says something, he had better follow and do exactly the same as what he said. If not, his words will become unreliable. Barak Obama was the 44th president of the United States, and it seemed that he learned a mistake from the 41st president or we can say, from the ... • 5. Arguments For And Against The Early Anthropogenic Hypothesis 11,700 years ago the geological epoch the Holocene was thought to of began following the Pleistocene epoch, together these time periods make up the Quaternary period. The Holocene has been described as being relatively warm and with a fairly stable climate. Not only this, but it is thought to coincide with the start of agriculture as human populations rose throughout the Holocene technology became more sophisticated aiding the rise of agriculture (Holden, 2012). The early anthropogenic hypothesis was published in 2003 by Professor W.F. Ruddiman, this was a three part hypothesis in which Ruddiman proposed humans reversed natural decreases in CO2 values within the atmosphere by deforestation. That they reversed natural methane decreases after 5,000 years by irrigating rice, they also caused a warming sufficient to prevent a new glaciation within the last several thousand years and during the Holocene (Ruddiman 2005). This hypothesis has attracted a lot of attention with many people both supporting it and criticising it. Throughout this essay I will be exploring the many arguments for and against the early anthropogenic hypothesis and stating whether or not human kind could have prevented the start of an ice age during the Holocene. One of the parts of Ruddimans three part early anthropogenic hypothesis focusses on the anomalous rise in methane after 5,000 years. By looking at the past three interglaciations methane levels should have fallen from ~700 ppb to a level such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Public Outreach Public Outreach Public outreach is a role that I ve become increasing involved in since our team redeveloped our outreach tabling approach for public events and markets this past year. At events like the Wednesday Night Market and West End Farmers Market, I ve engaged with the public to spread Storm Water and Creeks information as it pertains to the NPDES permit. I ve also continued to develop and supply outreach materials for public access City office buildings and community centers, including items like the new Creek Trails of Santa Rosa Map and Guide and the brochure Only Rain down the Drain and Russian River Watershed Association s Urban Creek Care Guide Responsible Practices for Russian River Watershed Residents. The City s most active creek restoration site is Lower Colgan Creek Phase 1, which Sean McNeil had taught me to care for by leading public events, monitoring vegetation succession, and preforming on site watering and maintenance. During the summer of 2017, I served as the lead for operating a water trailer and distributing water to juvenile restoration plants at the Colgan Creek restoration reach. Since learning about the native, ecological, and historic context of the Colgan Creek restoration reach, I ve been able to share this knowledge with SAC, SCYEC, other interns and co workers, and volunteers at every opportunity while cultivating the Colgan Creek restoration area on a minimum of a weekly basis. In addition to lightly monitoring several small scale completed restoration projects across the City including Lornadell Creek at Galvin Park and Paulin Creek at Chanate Rd., I ve initiated several small restoration projects of my own. In response to a fire just downstream of the Prince Memorial Greenway, I reseeded a multi acre open space with native grass seed to reduce environmental degradation and erosion runoff. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, I coordinated a volunteer native planting activity near Flat Rock Park on Santa Rosa Creek, which now has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Social And Economic Causes And Disadvantages Of Homelessness As of 2015, about 567,708 people experienced homelessness on a single night (National Alliance to End Homelessness, n.d.). My interest to research the information needs of this user group arose because this is a group in society that is sometimes overlooked and underrepresented. Additionally, I felt like the social and economic factors of this group is unique and the accessibility or barriers to information can heavily impact the economic mobility of people in this user group. In the article, Are the economically poor information poor? Does the digital divide affect the homeless and access to information? Author Julie Hersberger analyzes the information needs of those who are homeless, their information seeking behavior, their sources of information, and how useful the Internet is as a means to gain useful information. However, before examining these key points it s important to understand the causes of homelessness because it can give an insight on the types of information this user group would need. Hersberger states that there are several, if not many causes of homelessness. Some of these causes include lack of affordable housing, poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, mental illness, high costing health care, and addiction (Hersberger, 2003). To gather data that would give insight into the information needs, information seeking behavior, information sources, and the usefulness of the Internet as a tool to gain information, the author conducted a qualitative ... • 8. Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from laughing. In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson, there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient, either. We have feelings of superiority toward people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour, incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire. This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity: something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns. The future turns out like the past. But sometimes we perceive or imagine a thing whose parts or features violate our mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. In Nature By Ralph Waldo The essays Nature and self reliance almost support each other in the way they depict self respect as not just an aspect of life, but as life Itself and anything less is more dead than any end one could meet under most any circumstances. They simply approach the subject with different idea s. This kind of thing of course is to be expected due to the fact the author published both books. Oddly enough the books, both reference nature and self reliance only each one is more dedicated to one subject over the other. Really, they re the same book simply written in different stages of his life and thus seen From different point of view. • 13. Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave Michaela Daly ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of adulthood and house formation . Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29, young individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both social and economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This research project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such independence engage in share housing. Background Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid twentieth century (Goldsheider DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students, share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage was the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home (Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of spousal status with the formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon Heath 2001b). Include a discussion of the principles of authentication such as passwords, multifactor authentication, biometrics, and single sign on. Mandatory access is used to authenticate actions between a subject and an object. In order for a subject to access an object it must pass a set of authentication rules. 1.2.3. Role based access control Describe how and why role based access control will be used. RBAC is a very efficient way to control access to resources. This is because access is granted to select roles based on what the needs each role has to complete its job. Then, the person or program is assigned to the role and thus will only be granted the access granted to the role they are assigned. 1.3. While there are ways for a hacker to get into the system while following the usual work place policies, it would probably be much easier to get in by one of these methods. The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines cult as: a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also: its body of adherents. Indeed, any religion involving unconditional worship and unquestioning obedience to God could be labeled as a cult (using the derogatory suggestion of the word), since such a religion would have that high level of dependency, obedience, and unwavering compliance ascribed to cults by definition. Many mainstream religions still require their members to believe in God unquestioningly, to have faith that he is good and that what he does is good, to consider one s own wants and needs as unimportant while accepting the will of God as paramount. All of these are certainly characteristics commonly attributed to cults, but while it would not be unreasonable to apply this definition of a cult to any dogmatic religion that requires strict compliance with God s word and will as a condition of membership, the notion of applying the word cult to Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or any other major world religion today is considered absurd. On Emotion and Value in David Hume and Max Scheler ABSTRACT: While some philosophers tend to exclude any significance of emotion for the moral life, others place them in the center of both the moral life and the theory of value judgment. This paper presents a confrontation of two classic positions of the second type, namely the position of Hume and Scheler. The ultimate goal of this confrontation is metatheoretical particularly as it concerns the analysis of the relations between the idea of emotion and the idea of value in this kind of theory of value judgment. (3) In contrast to some contemporary writers, Hume devoted a lot of effort and space to the theory of passion before presenting his, based on emotion moral theory, in Book III of the Treatise. (4) However, as I believe, Hume s philosophy on the whole, contains not one, but two theories of passion. One of them is a theory of the genesis of passions from pains and pleasures. The second theory, on the other hand, refers to the group of passions which are after N. Kemp Smith called primary passions; and I will call it the descriptive theory of passion. The Treatise is dominated almost exclusively by the theory of genesis but the role of the descriptive theory in Enquiries is more important, and particularly in those places where Hume argues against hedonism and egoism in his theory of motivation. On the theory of genesis, passions are produced from pains and pleasures either directly or indirectly which, as it is well known, leads to Hume s distinction between direct and indirect passions. According to the descriptive theory, however, the situation is quite different. In their existence, the primary passions do not depend on pleasures and pains, on the contrary, pains and pleasures are produced by them. There is an interesting tension between these two theories in Hume s philosophy but this problem cannot be discussed here. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, the asset class is particularly vulnerable to short term surprises, as evidenced last year by November s US elections. We believe EMD differs from traditional developed market fixed income in several ways (see the chart below), and accommodating for these differences is an important step when investing in the asset class. Different dynamics Seeking more durable EMD returns How EMD differs from traditional fixed income How to adapt the investment process Implementation challenges The composition of the asset class and the underlying return drivers change more frequently Dynamic asset allocation to adjust to changing regimes Keeping transaction costs in check Investment universe is more expansive, diverse and complex, with markets and securities reacting very differently to global forces Actively incorporate complexities into selection process Understanding, measuring and managing the associated risks Performance is more vulnerable to event risk Manage drawdown effectively Hedging positions in real time and in a cost effective manner Source: BlackRock, February 2017 These differences can have an ... • 31. Canada s National Health System Canada Historical factors play a fundamental role in the evolution of a nation s health system. (Starr P., 1982) The healthcare in Canada on 18th century was based in independent physicians who provided services at the patient s homes. Hospitals were associated with the poor and were avoided due to the lack of care provided. Although the government s role in healthcare through the 19th century was limited, the first hospital established in Quebec in the year 1639. Furthermore, the first medical schools were opened in the 1820s (Warren P., 2008). The nation s growth created a simultaneous growth in the hospital setting. After the opening of the Montreal General Hospital on 1819, the education of the physicians and the patient care began to shift to the hospitals. (Bernier J, 2003). After the First World War and the occurrence of the infectious pandemics, the federal government created the national hygiene grants program to fund the efforts for coordinated public health. The first school of public health was opened in 1920. (Bernier J, 2003). It is worth mentioned that Frederick Banting and J.J.R. Macleod of the University of Toronto won the Nobel Prize in 1923 for discovering insulin. (The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1923) The economic downturn around 1930 created the need of change and embraced the ideas of a public health system and an active role of government. After the World War II, Hospital Services Plan was implemented. The program provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Working Environment, Performance Management Essay We define performance management as the process through which managers ensure that employees activities and outputs are congruent with the organization s goals (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, Wright, 2016 ). In today s working environment, performance management allows dialogue around performance improvement, which happens to be a system that many company s have adapted. With there being high competition to build up an exemplary employee and be able to maintain them different companies are rewarding and recognizing employees in different ways. There are companies that believe that in order to motivate and retain an employee there has to be an incentive. However, there are other companies that think the complete opposite, and believe that an employee will work harder and be more motivated when the job is a non commission base role or an incentive is expected. Argumentation/Discussion There are two different perspectives when it comes it incentives. The argument for companies that believe incentives are a great way to drive the growth and profit of the company is as follow. Incentives motivate an employee, and there are experts that state that bonuses, rewards and incentives attract an employee to improve their work performance, and meet deadlines. It is believed that incentives creates loyalty and trust between the employee and its employer improving its relationship. There was a research with MIT students, and they were given a set of challenges and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Effect Of Fast Reactants On The Rate Of A Chemical... Introduction: The measure of how fast reactants are converted into products is the rate of a chemical reaction. Some reactions occur more quickly than others, but the reaction rate can be made faster or slower depending on certain factors. Concentration, surface area, temperature, and the presence of a catalyst are all factors that can affect the rate of a reaction. A reaction is considered complete when the entirety of at least one of the reactants has been converted into products. If the end of a reaction is indicated by a color change or the formation of a precipitate, then the reaction rate can be found by measuring the time from when the reactants were mixed to when the color change occurred or the precipitate was formed. A rate law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall order of a reaction is calculated by finding the sum of the individual orders of the reactants. During the lab, while the concentration of one reactant varied, the concentration of the other reactant was held constant. The experiment was completed in this particular manner because the concentration of one reactant had to remain the same in order to discover how varying the concentration of the other reactant affected the reaction rate. Learning how to control the rate of a chemical reaction is a big advantage. For example, knowing that the rusting of iron can be slowed by painting the metal or covering it with certain substances is beneficial. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the rate law of a chemical reaction by calculating the change in the rate of the reaction as the concentration of the reactants are varied.
