Donate To The Humane Animal Welfare Society
Have you ever wanted donate to a local human society because you are tired of seeing sad dog
commercials? Well, I have the answer. Donate to the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS), there
is one in Waukesha. It began in 1965. If you donate, it will help the animals get food and find a home.
The society takes care of them and gives them shots and/or sprays them if they need to. It is only 26
minutes away and 14.4 miles away from Muskego. HAWS is also a no kill shelter. All of the animals
stay till they get home.
Did you know that 56 billion animals are killed each year, but HAWS is a no kill shelter and they
welcome 8,000 animals each year. They have a website where they put their animals on so people can
look at them. When they have events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Normily the pigs and small dogs go first and any baby animals. And an older dog only cost $79, a
puppy is $275, and a 6 month old to 2 year old id $225. These dogs are so cheap because HAWS
employees want them to find a home! But each animals will stay till they are not sick or hurt and are
feeling ok going home with their new owners. Each animal is chipped. So if they are able to run away
or stuff like that they can be found easily.
Any animals that are blind or special needs or needs extra supervision will be taken home with one of
the workers and brought back during the day. HAWS is a no kill shelter so even if an animal would sit
at the shelter for too long it would not be killed. There is always someone staying with the animals
overnight ike a worker. In order to buy the animal and take it home with you, your whole family has to
come in and make sure that the animal is okay. If the animal is not right for your family HAWS will
find a new pet for you and your family.
If you want a pet and don t want to spend a lot of money then go to HAWS pets aren t very expensive
because they just want to find the animals loving forever homes. HAWS has also been successful
since 1965. HAWS is only 26 minutes away from muskego. HAWS does not buy any of these animals
from breeders or puppy mills. You can donate to HAWS by giving love, food, toys, or

mostly coniferous vegetation. One of the most inhabited trees is the evergreen. Evergreens
can be really tall or be really small. They are christmas trees, but the ones in nature are
larger in size. Smaland is a beautiful region and the evergreen forest, are amazing.
Svealand right below Norrland has almost an exact same climate as Smaland.
Svealand, as well as Smaland, both have humid continental climates. Svealand has two
types of vegetation. They are deciduous and coniferous. The most popular vegetation for

A Dream Is A Dream
Why are these like this? These passages have many differences between these characters talking. But
the characters are similar in their personalities. Overall on of the passages use dialogue while one
describes the setting and what they thought. Throughout both passages they have certain similarities
by the authors developing their characters in different ways. Although, the passages have interactions,
but one has dialogue while the other just talks about what they do and what they thought in their head.
In the beginning of the passage, the passage thats has dialogue, Red Cranes, the father, Jiro, and the
daughter, Mie, talked to each other about the farm in the beginning of the passage. How i work going
today? Do you think the plants will be ready to harvest in time? Do you enough men to help you

the rare, red cranes they she said to wake her up early no matter how early. The red cranes! Father!

Expectations of First-Line-Supervisor in Law Enforcement...
Expectations of a First Line Supervisor in a Law Enforcement Agency
By

Supervision in the Criminal Justice Field
Professor Chavez
May 15, 2013
Abstract
The first line supervisor in law enforcement is commonly referred to as a Sergeant. These positions
are of great importance to a law enforcement agency. There are many pros and cons to becoming a
first line supervisor. These positions are tasked with the expectation of maintaining a level of balance
within the patrol ranks, as well as remaining fair and impartial among those ranks. There are also
many expectations of subordinates. In order for both parties to meet these expectations requires a
close working relationship.
The first line supervisor in a law ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and
accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty
with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their
subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be
able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from
simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action.
Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp;
Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are unwilling
to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When disciplinary
action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial. When
initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the
subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the subordinate
and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is necessary it is done
in a constructive manner. When the disciplinary action is constructive it allows the subordinate to
accept their mistakes, and learn

AKA D-Day Operation Overlord
The Normandy Landings AKA D Day, Operation Overlord
The Normandy Landings were a series of landing operations by Allied forces to capture Normandy
during World War 2. The Normandy Landings were also known to the Allied forces as Operation
Neptune, or D Day. Meanwhile, the operation to gain control of France was named Operation
Overlord. The purpose of Operation Overlord was to seize Western Europe starting with France from
Nazi control and enter Germany together with the Soviet forces from Eastern Europe to end the Nazi
regime. During this conflict, 156,000 Allied troops fought against a outnumbered 50,350 Nazi force.
In the end, the Allies had approx. 10,000 causalities as opposed to the Nazi s 4000 9000 casualties.
The operation was known as D Day as the day of the actual invasion could vary and to prevent

artillery and machine guns and blown up by mines underneath the surface of the water. The enemy
Nazis were heavily entrenched in the cliff above leading to some 2000 casualties for the Allied forces.
Gold Beach: This beach was not directly protected by any pillboxes or other defences, but rather by an
enemy battalion and 4 artillery guns, 3 of which were destroyed by Allied ships and 1 of which
surrendered. The casualties for this beach landing were estimated to be roughly 1000.

Music Is A Important Part Of Our Life
Without music, life would be a mistake. Music is a very important part of our live, and those who
make music are very special in this world. Music not being involved in my life would result in
harmonies and melodies leaving me totally empty. When I was younger , I didn t have the great love
for music as I do now entering the second year of college. I mainly listened to whatever was playing
either in the background or what my mom was listening to. I can personally say that I didn t have
much of a care for musical compositions. At the time I didn t have a preference of the particular genre
of music much, but now as I am older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on memories from
specific times in my childhood. Once after I had hit my teenage years music began to become my life
and gradually started to inhibit on my soul. Music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotions in my
personal opinion. Whether the emotion is happiness or sadness and despair through foot tapping
rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The musical images that music and song are able to
portray and create are amazing. Music has created the ability to turn or transport me back in time just
like a time machine. Allowing me to revisit lost and forgotten moments in life. Songs can paint a
picture, for example in classical and country music where a story is being told compared to pop songs.
The music in classical music tells a story without lyrics which is a strong and powerful thing. I

My Story By Alicia Appleman Jurman
Those who take the time to fully examine the Holocaust, and its exemplary survivors deal with the
unsettling knowledge that those before them over looked. Between the years of 1933 to 1947, the
Holocaust prospered through many countries in Europe, including the proximity of one survivor s
homeland, Poland. Alicia: My Story by Alicia Appleman Jurman is historically famous for it s
shocking relevance throughout its background. It has also been infamous for its brutal unvarnished
truth by well known book reviews, but overall it s cultural impact on the world has shown it is a lesson
that should be known by all.
Before there were survivors of the appalling Holocaust, there was the emanation of this fledgling
abomination. It began in September 1st of 1939, when Nazi troops invaded Poland, and Germany
surrendered sulkingly on May 8th of 1945 ( HISTORY 3). This kindled the tyrant Adolf Hitler to wage
two wars, and incidentally revived a new World War. The first war was against the allied forces, Great
Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union; Sadly, the other war was against the jews, this in turn
gave way to the beginning of the Holocaust (3). This was all kindled only a few years after one
survivor named Alicia Appleman Jurman was born which made her nine years of age at the time in
Poland. Jews who collapsed under the harsh hammer of the German s control in the Eastern and
Central Europe were almost immediately belittled in every way made possible (3). The effects were

right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). It has been said in casual
conversation that the Emerging Church is a modern day effort to transform the church into a place that
is accepting of all truths and all faiths no matter their origin. If this is true, it could bring interesting
challenges to the true church that was launched on the Day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 2 Timothy

Essay on Schindler s List
Schindler s List
Schindler s List is one of the most powerful movies of all time. It presents the indelible true story of
enigmatic German businessman Oskar Schindler who becomes an unlikely saviour of more than 1100
Jews amid the barbaric Nazi reign. A German Catholic war profiteer, Schindler moved to Krakow in
1939 when Germany overran Poland. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on the advice of his
Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced labour camp at Plaszow.
Schindler s factory prospered though his contacts with the Nazi war machine and its local
representatives, as well as his deft skill on the black market. Then, somewhere along the way,
Schindler s devotion to self interest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so
many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the
typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position
and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of
those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour
camp at Plaszow.
However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a
significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image
in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one
small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three
hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos,
compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the
child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image
transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral
reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle
musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the

Physician-Hospital Organizations Case
In early 1990 s, physician hospital organizations (PHO), legal in the United States, developed to
provide attractive one stop shopping for consumers, employers and managed care payors, by bonding
the medical staff to the hospitals within an organization (Daniels 2011). As with the majority of
healthcare decisions, legal issues surfaced among the formation of PHOs, forcing the Federal Trade
Commission (FTC) to closely examine multiple alliances and networks. Examining the South Georgia
PHO, the FTC found per se illegal in multiple areas such as developing the group in order to obtain
higher fees, unlawfully fixed maximum allowable discounts, and restricted the ability to contract
outside the PHO (Creighton 2004). The FTC evaluates PHOs by assessing ... Show more content on

By promoting competiveness, it would limit the per se illegal. In addition, agreement among the
competing providers to share financial risk for services provided via the network would benefit the
PHO providing efficiencies. Exclusive arrangements do not exist as automatically anticompetitive as
specific justifications may ensure the service to the networks consumers. The rule of reason, an
analytical process provided by the FTC, examines various details and aspects to visualize the
competitive significance of the formation of the PHO (FTC 1996). Such as, if examination proves the
integration, of the network, benefits the consumers and the price agreements are necessary to obtain
the benefits for patients. Also, if a hospital decides not to provide a service that is not profitable, but
focus more on a profitable service, the hospital is allowed to enter into an agreement with an
integrated network PHO to provide the less profitable service. Healthcare reform has created many
unique opportunities for the development and networks of providers. Fortunately, the U.S. legal
systems engages plans, forums and laws to prevent the conflict of interest among healthcare providers

With the help of UN troops, Lumumba was placed under house arrest. However, he escaped to
Stanleyville, with the aim of recovering control by setting up his own government and army.
Lumumba s efforts proved futile when he was captured on December 1, 1960, and taken to Kinshasa
to be tried for inciting the army to rebellion and other crimes, according to rival Joseph Mobutu.
Lumumba was transferred from the military barracks near Leopoldville to the independent province of

This part is divided into three sections. The first and second sections are discussed about the effect of
pH and effect of dosage on turbidity removal of lake water using alum. Next, for the third section
explained about turbidity removal of lake water using alum. This section describes the effect of pH on
turbidity removal for alum. The pH of water samples were adjusted and ranged from pH 2 to 7 and the
dosage of alum used was constant at 20 mg/L at an initial turbidity of 55 NTU. The following Figure

The pH and dosage of alum coagulant were constant at the optimum pH and dosage which were at pH
6 and 10 mg/L dosage. The following Figure 4.18 and Figure 4.19 showed the outcomes of the
experiments. From the turbidity ranged from 56.40 to 74.50 NTU, the effectiveness of turbidity
removal gave the percentage ranged between 92.24 to 94.36%. This showed the turbidity removal
enhances in greater rate compared to biopolymer coagulant. The trend line of the graph also showed
the turbidity removal of alum increases as the increases the initial turbidity of lake water. This
distinctive shows that coagulation performance using alum as coagulant was greatly improved in lake
water. The reason for the effectiveness of alum coagulant was when alum molecules dissociate in
water, it contained strong positive ions (Al3+). These strong positive ions combined with a larger
number of negatively charged suspended particles that present in high turbid water. Therefore, the
flocs will aggregate in the formation of bigger and denser flocs as can be seen in Figure

The Meaning Of The Word Nigger
The word nigger has been around since the beginning of our nation. It has made an appearance in
numerous songs, speeches, and even literary classics such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Over the years, the word and its meaning have changed drastically to mean positive things in the black
community, however the original insult is still present in some contexts. Many believe we should
prohibit the use of the word as best we can in order to put an end to the negative uses. However, I
believe that we should instead be working towards changing the meaning of the word forever instead
of condemning it. Although many argue the n word should be censored at all times, I believe it should
not be censored because it is vital in understanding out nation s past, the meaning of the word has
adapted throughout time to be positive, and condemning it would only allow the word to sustain its
negative meaning. The word nigger is crucial to understanding our history. Some argue that the word
is always attributed with the nation s past blunders such as discrimination and slavery and for that
reason it should be banned. For example, the article ____ states that the word has long conjured
images of lynchings, oppression, bigotry, and discrimination (OBAMA). Although this is true, these
images are necessary in describing our country s background. Without the use of this word to do so, it
would be impossible to understand the extent of prejudice that this country had present

The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The...
Sorbent characteristics
This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2
capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for
CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2 capture
process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components, sorbent
attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with a
summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work.
Solid sorbent properties
Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous
chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules of
CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via
covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of
adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while chemisorption
occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are rules of thumb,
however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of CO2 in some zeolites has
been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with heats of chemisorption known
to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. The heat

Criminal investigative analysis is a process of reviewing crimes from both a behavioral and
investigative perspective. It involves reviewing and assessing the facts of a criminal act, interpreting
offender behavior, and interaction with the victim, as exhibited during the commission of the crime, or
as displayed in the crime scene. BAU staff conduct detailed analyses of crimes for the purpose of
providing two or more of the following services: crime analysis, investigative suggestions, profiles of
unknown offenders, threat analysis, critical incident analysis, interview strategies, major case
management, search warrant assistance, prosecutive and trial strategies, and expert testimony.[7] In
addition to the above services, the BAU staff produced the Child Abduction Response Plan to assist
investigators faced with these investigations. Recently, the BAU released The School Shooter: A

Mother Infant Dyads Completed All Aspects Of The Study Essay
Method
Twenty four mother infant dyads completed all aspects of the study. Of those 24, 18 were Caucasian,
22 were married, eight of them had an annual family income of $50,000 to $74,999, and seven had an
annual family income of over $100,000. Also 16 of the participating mothers had a graduate degree.
Not only is the sample size very small, but the demographics of the mothers is greatly
disproportionate. With the majority of mothers being caucasian, educated, middle class, married
women, the sample size does not accurately represent the majority of the population who lives in
relative poverty and cannot afford to seek help. About half of the mothers had a history of depression
and were taking or had just started taking antidepressant medication when they first enrolled.
Considering the size of the sample, all the mothers should have been either prescription drug users, or
not, but not both. Prescription drug treatment for any depression significantly changes perceptions of
mood, skewing the results, and there is not enough women in the study to make a concise prognosis.
To assess the mothers postpartum psychiatric difficulties the Postpartum Depression Screening Scale
(PDSS; Beck Gable, 2000) was used. Prior to treatment, mothers completed a self report questionnaire
packed comprised of the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI; Derogatis, 1993), the Parenting Stress Index

Role of Violence in the History of Cinema
Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino
have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts. However, their
different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino films are nothing alike.
This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel afraid, tense, and anxious for the
protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the absurdity of violence by elevating the
macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino are brilliant directors who use violence
in their films to achieve a desired effect.
These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas
Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcock s movies rarely if ever show
violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on the viewer.
The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does not see
anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and Psycho as it is
for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the audience feels
afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to feel fear. In films
like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely unhindered. Severed

Wall-E versus Feed Essay
Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards (
Brainy Quotes 1). While this epitomizes modern time, it also represents M.T. Anderson s Feed and
Pixar s Wall E. Feed is a book about a dystopian society influenced by a device, called feed ,
implanted in the brains of the citizens. The author describes a group of regular teenagers that venture
to the moon for a spring break vacation of partying and going in mal . The main character, Titus, falls
for a girl named Violet who is not like the other stereotypical teens in this book. Violet received the

He writes of an extreme point where the world needs air factories to live. While Violet is talking to her
father she realizes, the forest s gone. Yeah. Jefferson Park? Yeah. That was knocked down to make an
air factory (Anderson 125). The environment in Feed can t even produce air anymore so the air is
machine made and fake. Similarly, the environment in Wall E is also polluted; however, the problem is
more severe. The earth has been completely abandoned for 700 years and the improvement of earth
has been given into the hands of a garbage collecting robot, Wall E. All of humanity moved to outer
space to live in a ship controlled by robots and centered on technology. The ads on the ship broadcast
the advances of space stating that if there was too much garbage in your face on earth, than there is
plenty of space out in space! (Wall E). In the futuristic book, Feed, children are implanted with a feed
that displays advertisements and controls all thoughts, emotions, and memories. M.T. Anderson writes
using satire of consumerism and deteriorates the complexity in the main character, Titus s, language.
Additionally, the characters are influenced by the ads they see, When we got off the ship, our feeds
were going fugue with all the banners (Anderson 8). Not only is consumerism an aspect in Feed, but it
is also found in Wall E. When all humans move to outer space, they adapt an easy lifestyle that

Management Information Systems Tutorial 3 (Week 4)
1.
Identify and describe the features of organizations that help explain differences in organizations use of
information systems.
One feature of organizations is routines and business processes.
Routines, sometimes called standard operating procedures, are precise rules, procedures and practices
that have been developed to cope with virtually all expected situations. Business processes are
collections of such routines. A business firm in turn is a collection of business processes.
New information system applications require that individual routines and business processes change to
achieve high levels of organizational performance. Another feature of organizations is organizational

Sometimes, entire industries are put out of business. In other cases, disruptive technologies simply
extend the market, usually with less functionality and much less cost than existing products.
Eventually they turn into low cost competitors for whatever was sold before. Some organizations are
able to create these technologies and ride the wave to profits, others learn quickly and adapt their
business, and others are obliterated because their products, services and business models become
obsolete. There are also cases where no firms benefit and all the gains go to customers.

Define Porter s competitive forces model and explain how it works.
Michael Porter s competitive forces model provides a general view of a firm, its competitors and
environment. Five competitive forces shape the fate of a firm traditional competitors, new market
entrants, substitute products and services, customers and suppliers. In traditional competition, all firms
share market space with competitors who are continuously devising new products, services,
efficiencies and switching costs. New companies are always entering the marketplace. Some industries
have high barriers to entry such as the computer chip business.
New companies have new equipment, younger workers but little brand recognition. Substitute

The Interconnectedness Of Cultural Anthropology And Folk...
The chief concern of this paper is to explore the interconnectedness of cultural anthropology and folk
literature. There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between folklore and
anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it comes to folk
literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say, hence, this paper is
different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folklore and anthropology, it looks
at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before moving further, one needs to
understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore Society (AFS) defines folklore
as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is disseminated largely through oral
communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that folklore is a broad term which includes
all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or performative. This leads to an inference
that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which deals with verbal and written expressions.
Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a study of humanity including the prehistoric to
contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is one of its four branches which aims to understand
and define why a certain group behaves differently from the other group. These clarifications lead to
another inference that though both anthropology and folklore study human

Multicultural Communities and Multi-Faith Practices
In the past decade, Ireland became an increasing multicultural community from different nationalities
accompanying multi faith practices.[1] Despite the acknowledgment of the fact that diversity of race,
religion, language, and cultural background between people is crucial in the healthcare environment, it
is more important to develop cultural competency in hospitals to ensure high quality health care
service exclusive of inequalities and responsive to the requirements of the diverse patients.[2][3] This
report highlights the barriers leading to poor multicultural communication in the healthcare setting
where communication can be affected by religious consideration and recommends some solutions to
tackle this problem. We have chosen this topic in specific to explore on the role of religious beliefs in
the medical decision making, and the importance of caregivers not to assume homogeneity among
their patients since religious beliefs is considered as an integral component of a patient s holistic

What Is The Theme Of The Hunger Games
The story The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins takes place in the fictional country of Panem, a
nation governed by the tyrannical Capitol being served by the twelve districts. The districts are strictly
ordered to obey the Capitol, or face severe punishment. Throughout the story, it is shown that the
Capitol exploits the workforce of the districts, while hoarding all of the luxuries for itself. Life in the
Capitol is luxurious, with extravagant food and water being plentiful and available at the push of a
button. On the other hand, many people in the districts slowly die from famine and disease. The
Capitol has the ability to tear apart the already troubled lives of any citizens that dare to step out of
line, and there is no shortage of this presented throughout the story. The Capitol of Panem hoards all
of the country s wealth for itself, while each of the districts is wracked with varying degrees of
poverty and hardship. The Capitol is especially notable for its obsession with appearance and luxury
goods. While the Capitol itself is widely known for its beauty, its citizens are notorious for having a
peculiar fashion sense. In Chapter 4, the Capitol is described by saying, The cameras haven t lied
about its grandeur. If anything, they have not quite captured the magnificence of the glistening
buildings in a rainbow of hues that tower into the air, ... the oddly dressed people with bizarre hair and
painted faces who have never missed a meal, (Collins, page 59). The

Newark has only in recent years stemmed the population outflow. The city has begun in recent

signs of economic renewal, in particular in its ability to attract middle class professionals back to the

vibrant demographic. However, the impacts of these changes on the existing residents, most of whom
are poor minorities, are largely going to be negative. They have neither the education nor training to

rising tensions between the existing citizens and the new citizens that Newark intends to attract. These
citizens, already facing lower social spending as the city shifts its funding priorities to infrastructure

The feeling of temptation is an emotion most people have felt in their lives. Temptation has been

Alternate Ways of Measuring Performance Essay
Balanced Scorecard Alternate Ways of Measuring Performance Abstract
Many organizations are usefully viewed as a web of relationships between and among various
stakeholder groups. An organization may be defined as a nexus of contracts, where said contracts are
relationships that are marked by contributions from the various stakeholders in return for inducements
provided by the organization. Over the long haul, the success of an organization is a function of the
extent to which the needs and requirements of its various stakeholders can be integrated and balanced,
without sacrificing any one to the other. There is, in this arrangement, mutual influence and

A successful balanced scorecard implementation must also incorporate a communication mechanism,
which allows management to communicate its strategic vision and goals to the employees, who, in
return, can also report their processes and progress back to management.
Multidimensional Architecture
Since an organization is composed of multiple levels, a scorecard must support different levels and
perspectives from strategic business units and divisions, to departments, teams and individuals. To
accommodate this architecture, the scorecard is structured as multiple, aggregated cubes. Each layer a
nesting of the ones below. In general, the highest level cube defines the measures and dimensions that
apply to the corporate level, and these drill through to divisional and departmental cubes that have a
more detailed level of information (Nickols, 1999). This artery of the cubes lets the strategy
communicate down the organization, while performance is aggregated up through the organization
like blood through vein.
Cubes are an ideal vehicle to implement a hierarchical architecture. You can have both logical and
physical separation of the data; i.e., data can reside in one cube where different views are offered to
different users, or alternately data can be maintained in completely separate cubes. In cases where the
data is inconsistent, it may be allocated to provide managers with more

The Population Of Young Immigrants And The United Kingdom
Abstract The study emphasized on the encounters and experiences of irregular migrant children who,
via a number of different routes and circumstances, to live in the United Kingdom short of legal
dwelling status and inhabitant youngsters who stay with a minimum of one unauthorized parent. The
study reveals the numerous techniques in which inadequate legal status influence the well being of
child migrants directly as well as through their parentages, influential their social worlds, and most
significantly, their likelihoods for the future (Sigona, Hughes, 2010). Through investigation of
facilities and resources accessible to the children, the research is meant to shed light on migrant
youngsters experience with community services and the difficulties and peculiarities of the migration
structures at the period of economic recession and fundamental reorganization of the public services.
Concerning education, the research focused principally on access to and involvements with formal

to Nancy on the bridge. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film because she
was never introduced.
The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not
very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel.
I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will explain
why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the more focused
the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak. What I am trying to
say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. But if you have read the
book you know they want him back because Oliver s half brother Monks has payed Fagin to keep
Oliver in a life of crime so Monks can receive all of their parents

Reflection Of The Regggio Creativation Observation
Being able to visit one of the Reggio Emilia Schools was the best experience I have had while
learning about this approach so far. This experience helped put everything that we were learning and
discussing earlier in the week into perspective. Today was the day when the Reggio Emilia approach
of teacher started to actually make sense to me in the way that it was implemented, since I was able to
observe the interactions first hand. When I first walked into the school I was amazed by how open and
welcoming it was. I was able to see most of the classroom while just standing in the main area on the
ground floor which was completely different than anything I have seen in any schools in the United
States. We learned at the end of our time exploring and observing the school that the reason that all of
the classrooms are connected or are visible to each other is since their philosophy is that if you have
interconnected spaces then you will have interconnected thoughts. They referred to this as
transparency when discussing it during our debrief. After getting over just how amazing the layout and
environment of this school was, I was able to finally start observing how the interactions and
instruction is implemented in this school. I was able to see how older students and younger students
were able to learn from each other as well as teachers and students learning from each other. In this
school everyone was constantly learning from others by observing, asking questions or just

The Gaze
Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest
what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and
experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and
practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time
through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ;
usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained
in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay.
While they are two very different themes, alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as
without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong
with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences
are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream
Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem.
The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not
more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film
Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film
ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few
years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the
greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing,
relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has.
How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960,
audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. The
voyeuristic nature of the film

Criminalization of Cyberbullying
As the effects of cyber bullying are becoming a growing problem, the criminalization of cyber
bullying is needed to prevent its harmful repercussions to the United States and serve as a deterrent.
Cyber bullying has become the 21st century version of bullying; it has extended beyond the classroom
and onto a virtual world that seems to have no real life effects. The world is now able to bully
someone in the comfort of his or her own home, at any given point, with the use of technology.
However, Cyber bullying still proves to have lasting impacts on the victim and it is now time for the
offender to feel the ramifications of their actions.
Studies indicate that cyber bullying incidents have quadrupled in past five years. Cyber ... Show more

Threats of violence should also be reported to the police. Try to save all messages as evidence
(Hardcastle). Criminalization would give victims a method to stop the bullying. The issue is here but
not acknowledged as a problem deserving of consequence. If the law enforcement agencies see that
the society is focusing on the cyber bullying as a problem rather than just an issue they would act upon
it in a mannerly order to put a stop to it or prevent it from occurring on a daily basis. However, by
choosing to criminalize cyber bullying victims will be provided with a way to stop the bullies from
harassing them.
Cyber bullying laws are being created to make this destructive activity illegal. Threats are not
protected speech. Thus, cyber bullying isn t protected by the first amendment as freedom of speech.
Cyber bullying deprives people of their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. According
to research in as of June 2011, thirty states have passed bullying laws where cyber bullying was
included. Studies show that cyber bullying has influenced 50% of US teenagers. Schools and
organizations are required to create a bullying policy including cyber bullying, as long as it is
reported. Clear repercussions must be outlined. Schools require direction from the state legislatures
and education departments to draft policies that will hold up in court.
Although there isn t a specific target when it comes to cyber bullying, it tends to

Essay about Illegal Aliens Have the Right to Healthcare
Everyday people are sent to the hospital. Not only are they in fear of losing their life but also in fear of
being in debt due to the prices of health care treatment they need. But what if this patient happens to
be an illegal alien? What if the patient has a foreign illness that needs to be cured so it does not
spread? Should healthcare providers continue to provide (s) he with treatment even if they cannot pay?
Or should illegal aliens be treated just like any other patients by having a right to health care?
Illegal aliens are net consumers of public services and they contribute to economic growth
(Immigrants Economic Contributions, 2009). Since 1990, immigrants have contributed to job growth
in three main ways: They fill an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the illegal aliens want are jobs that will potentially give them a higher wage in comparison to
the country they came from. To effectively weigh whether providing health care to immigrants should
be considered a right or privilege, one would have to consider how much they contribute to economic
growth. A Pew study from last year showed that undocumented immigrants add 600,000 to 700,000
new consumers to the economy every year. Since consumption makes up 70 percent of economic
activity in the U.S., this is important (and of course, more consumption means more sales tax
revenue). Immigration is also expected to account for one forth of the Census Bureau s estimated labor
force growth through 2012. Some economic estimates gauge that undocumented immigrants
contribute $22 billion, in total, to the economy each year a number that would increase if they were
given the opportunity to become legal (Karvounis, 2007). This evidence suggests that illegal aliens are
actually giving back to the nation by doing all of the dirty, low income jobs and are only using
approximately $11 billion in health care and they are contributing about $22 billion a year to the
economy. Although these illegals only using half of what they give, they contribute more then what
they use.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Elizabeth Bishop s One Art
One Art is a villanelle filled with sad sentiments of encouragement towards accepting loss. Elizabeth
Bishop uses her tone to pull emotions from the reader that could be confusion and disagreement. Her
tone deeply impacts the reader in such a way that it causes him/her to seriously think of accepting her
opinion and advice. The capturing way she uses her tone in her word choice shows the reader her
natural inflexion when she speaks. The tone of her work even affects her characterization. In One Art,
Elizabeth Bishop uses tone to convey a character of false casualty, while also using it to emphasize the
very heavy impact of her diction. In the first lines of One Art, Bishop s tone is that of a melancholy
nature. She states that losing isn t hard to master (line 1). She follows this by proclaiming that
everything intends to be lost from the beginning, so disaster should not be felt when those losses take
place (line 3). Erin Christian talks somewhat of this in her essay, On Loss in Elizabeth Bishop s One
Art . One may infer that Bishop s tone, in these lines, reflects this opinion of easiness with the
rhyming of the word master with disaster (Christian 541). This style is used in a villanelle to be rigid
and almost unplanned, which reflects the tone of Bishop s words in that her opinions and statements
throughout are rather unfocused or disorganized. The way that she encourages her readers to lose
something every day is, in her view, a way to get used to the

Shakespeare And The World Of Hamlet
The world of Hamlet and the world of its playwright, William Shakespeare, are similar in many
aspects such as politics and the way women are treated. Another similarity of both worlds is the
education system. It is known that Prince Hamlet attends the University of Wittenberg as King Cladius
and Queen Gertrude are against Hamlet s return to Wittenberg, stating that [i]t is most retrograde to
[their] desire (Shakespeare I.ii.114). The fact that Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, attends university
shows that the world of Hamlet, without a doubt, resembles Shakespeare s world. This is because in
Shakespeare s world, university is only available to the males of noble and royal families for only they
have enough time and money to learn (Elizabethan Era

Hubspot Case
Problem Statement
Hubspot S Challenge: Hubspot emphasizes that it will do only INBOUND marketing. That is the real
problem and hence Hubspot s real problem is the business strategy and not the marketing strategy.
Inbound marketing cannot be a stand alone strategy for a company but since Hubspot champions it, it
has in effect cornered itself. Problem with Inbound is , it is a carpet bombing air war scheme which
works in limited mode but in reality market demands more targeted ground war scheme to break
through the clutter. This means delivering high quality content to right audience and not just to
everyone. You also have to do it across multiple channels, which may smell of some outbound

Exploring The Different Values Placed On Art Works Essay
AS91487 3.6 Examine the different values placed on art works
Mona Lisa Leonardo Da Vinci 1506
The Mona Lisa, 1503 1506, painted on poplar wood (77 x 53cm) with oil paint. This composition was
created by Leonardo Da Vinci, a Quattrocento artist of the Italian Renaissance between the years of
1503 1506. The Mona Lisa is unquestionably acclaimed, with great artistic merit and value, to be the
most highly revered, renowned painting. This form of art is a portrait, in which Leonardo Da Vinci has
painted une donna vera in a somewhat hazy landscape setting. In today s society, Lisa remains behind
bulletproof glass, in a temperature controlled box in her current residence, the Louvre museum, in
which her role is to challenge each and every one of her 6 million annual visitors. With this in mind,
she is one of, if not the most visited painting ever in existence.
Da Vinci was born in Italy and, a true Italian patriot he was, he spent most of his lifetime there during
which Da Vinci completed many commissions, e.g. the Sforza family who took Da Vinci into their
service. His service for the Sforza family continued until Da Vinci returned to Florence when Milan
proved to be unsafe. Returning to Florence, Leonardo created many master inventions, appreciated
today by many historians and scientists. The famed Mona Lisa portrays a young woman, or in the
words of Da Vinci une donna vera whose identity is now confirmed but is still theorised to this day.
Such theories

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A supervisor must remain approachable from their subordinates. With this approachability and accessibility the supervisor will be successful in building a better working relationship. The difficulty with some supervisors is the ability to draw the line between having a personal relationship with their subordinates and a professional relationship. With a close working relationship a supervisor should be able to confront the subordinate and be able to resolve the issue. The resolution may range from simply counseling the subordinate, all the way up to possible disciplinary action. Approximately 25 percent of all law enforcement disciplinary action is due to drug use. (More amp; Miller, 2007) Supervisors must remain vigilant on possible drug use. Many supervisors are unwilling to discipline their subordinates, which could ultimately lead to their downfall. When disciplinary action is necessary it is the responsibility of the supervisor to remain fair and impartial. When initiating disciplinary action the supervisor must put aside any personal feelings toward the subordinate, and act solely on a professional level. They must act in the best interest of the subordinate and the department as a whole. It is important that when the disciplinary action is necessary it is done in a constructive manner. I mainly listened to whatever was playing either in the background or what my mom was listening to. I can personally say that I didn t have much of a care for musical compositions. At the time I didn t have a preference of the particular genre of music much, but now as I am older, I enjoy it as it allows me to reminisce on memories from specific times in my childhood. • 9. My Story By Alicia Appleman Jurman Those who take the time to fully examine the Holocaust, and its exemplary survivors deal with the unsettling knowledge that those before them over looked. Between the years of 1933 to 1947, the Holocaust prospered through many countries in Europe, including the proximity of one survivor s homeland, Poland. Alicia: My Story by Alicia Appleman Jurman is historically famous for it s shocking relevance throughout its background. It has also been infamous for its brutal unvarnished truth by well known book reviews, but overall it s cultural impact on the world has shown it is a lesson that should be known by all. Before there were survivors of the appalling Holocaust, there was the emanation of this fledgling abomination. It began in September 1st of 1939, when Nazi troops invaded Poland, and Germany surrendered sulkingly on May 8th of 1945 ( HISTORY 3). This kindled the tyrant Adolf Hitler to wage two wars, and incidentally revived a new World War. The first war was against the allied forces, Great Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union; Sadly, the other war was against the jews, this in turn gave way to the beginning of the Holocaust (3). This was all kindled only a few years after one survivor named Alicia Appleman Jurman was born which made her nine years of age at the time in Poland. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on the advice of his Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced labour camp at Plaszow. To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow. However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the ... The trend line of the graph also showed the turbidity removal of alum increases as the increases the initial turbidity of lake water. This distinctive shows that coagulation performance using alum as coagulant was greatly improved in lake water. The reason for the effectiveness of alum coagulant was when alum molecules dissociate in water, it contained strong positive ions (Al3+). • 17. The Meaning Of The Word Nigger The word nigger has been around since the beginning of our nation. It has made an appearance in numerous songs, speeches, and even literary classics such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Over the years, the word and its meaning have changed drastically to mean positive things in the black community, however the original insult is still present in some contexts. Many believe we should prohibit the use of the word as best we can in order to put an end to the negative uses. However, I believe that we should instead be working towards changing the meaning of the word forever instead of condemning it. Although many argue the n word should be censored at all times, I believe it should not be censored because it is vital in understanding out nation s past, the meaning of the word has adapted throughout time to be positive, and condemning it would only allow the word to sustain its negative meaning. The word nigger is crucial to understanding our history. Some argue that the word is always attributed with the nation s past blunders such as discrimination and slavery and for that reason it should be banned. For example, the article ____ states that the word has long conjured images of lynchings, oppression, bigotry, and discrimination (OBAMA). • 19. The Properties Of Solid Sorbents Relevant On The... Sorbent characteristics This chapter discusses the properties of solid sorbents relevant to the performance and cost of CO2 capture. The chapter begins with a discussion of the solid sorbent properties that are important for CO2 capture. The discussion then broadens to include a range of factors which affect the CO2 capture process, such as the interactions between the solid sorbent and other flue gas components, sorbent attrition and degradation, and the influence of reaction kinetics. The chapter concludes with a summary of ?best estimate? characteristics of the specific solid sorbents analyzed in this work. Solid sorbent properties Solid sorbents are small porous particles which can selectively adsorb or complex with gaseous chemical species (in this case, CO2), thereby removing the species from a gas mixture. Molecules of CO2 may be held loosely by weak intermolecular forces termed ?physiosorption? or strongly via covalent bonding, termed ?chemisorption.? Generally, physiosorption occurs when the heat of adsorption is greater than approximately 40 kJ/mol of CO2 (i.e. 20 to 40 kJ/mol), while chemisorption occurs with the heats of adsorption less than 60 kJ/mole (Yang, 2003). These are rules of thumb, however, and exceptions do exist. For instance, the heat of physiosorption of CO2 in some zeolites has been reported to be as low as 210 kJ/mol CO2 (Shen, et al., 2000), with heats of chemisorption known to extend from as low as 62 kJ/mol to over 420 kJ/mol. FIJI Water was singled out as a primary example of water insanity due to the fact that the product was shipped from a remote island in the South Pacific to its main markets thousands of miles away. In response to this protest, the company launched a new promotion campaign under a slogan every drop is green, only to be immediately accused by environmentalist groups of engaging in greenwashing activities. The claim was also challenged by government watchdogs in some countries where FIJI Water was sold. At the same time, the company s relationships with the Fiji government were at the lowest point. The government accused FIJI Water of transfer price manipulations and seized hundreds of containers carrying FIJI brand water. After assessing the company s contribution to the Fiji economy, the government tried to impose a hefty tax on exported water and the company took the drastic action of laying off its employees in Fiji to pressure the government to repeal the initial 20 cents a litre tax that would have greatly reduced FIJI Water s profitability by increasing its tax bill by about FJ$50 million per year. Also 16 of the participating mothers had a graduate degree. Not only is the sample size very small, but the demographics of the mothers is greatly disproportionate. With the majority of mothers being caucasian, educated, middle class, married women, the sample size does not accurately represent the majority of the population who lives in relative poverty and cannot afford to seek help. About half of the mothers had a history of depression and were taking or had just started taking antidepressant medication when they first enrolled. • 26. Role of Violence in the History of Cinema Violence plays a major role in the history of cinema. Both Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino have produced a litany of films that have imagery or plots that include violent acts. However, their different directorial visions and styles make it so that Hitchcock and Tarantino films are nothing alike. This is because Hitchcock s objective was to make the audience feel afraid, tense, and anxious for the protagonist, whereas Tarantino s objective is to illustrate the absurdity of violence by elevating the macabre to the level of humor. Both Hitchcock and Tarantino are brilliant directors who use violence in their films to achieve a desired effect. These two directors differ in that Hitchcock avoids showing any blood, guts, and gore, whereas Tarantino is determined to show blood, guts, and gore. Alfred Hitchcock s movies rarely if ever show violence in an explicit manner. Violence is only suggested, which has a poignant impact on the viewer. The viewer knows that violence is lurking around the corner; because the viewer does not see anything happen, the fear lingers in the air. This is as true for North By Northwest and Psycho as it is for The Birds. In these films, violence does not happen in an overt way, and yet the audience feels afraid and anxious. Tarantino, on the other hand, does not intend for the audience to feel fear. In films like Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill series, Tarantino presents violence completely unhindered. Similarly, the environment in Wall E is also polluted; however, the problem is more severe. The earth has been completely abandoned for 700 years and the improvement of earth has been given into the hands of a garbage collecting robot, Wall E. Anderson writes using satire of consumerism and deteriorates the complexity in the main character, Titus s, language. Additionally, the characters are influenced by the ads they see, When we got off the ship, our feeds were going fugue with all the banners (Anderson 8). There are many essays that have already shown the interrelationship between folklore and anthropology1. Both these umbrella terms have many things in common but when it comes to folk literature and cultural anthropology, some distinctions become apparent. To say, hence, this paper is different in a sense that instead of dealing with the broad areas of folklore and anthropology, it looks at their branches and explores interconnectedness between them. Before moving further, one needs to understand the area of folklore and folk literature. American Folklore Society (AFS) defines folklore as the traditional art, literature, knowledge, and practice that is disseminated largely through oral communication and behavioral example . It clearly hints that folklore is a broad term which includes all the types of expressions whether oral, written, visual, or performative. This leads to an inference that folk literature is one of the branches of folklore which deals with verbal and written expressions. Similarly, anthropology is a jacket term which means a study of humanity including the prehistoric to contemporary, whereas the cultural anthropology is one of its four branches which aims to understand and define why a certain group behaves differently from the other group. Life in the Capitol is luxurious, with extravagant food and water being plentiful and available at the push of a button. I will use this compare and contrast essay to try and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and very different from the film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why people generally think that the book is better than the film. BODY Story The novel Oliver Twist is a fictional story about an orphan who is at the lowest level in society and how he accidentally gets into a gang of pickpockets and criminals. It starts out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is why Brownlow is talking to Nancy in the film unlike in the novel where Rose Maylie is talking to Nancy on the bridge. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film because she was never introduced. The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel. I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will explain why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the more focused the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak. What I am trying to say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. But if you have read the book you know they want him back because Oliver s half brother Monks has payed Fagin to keep Oliver in a life of crime so Monks can receive all of their parents ... • 43. Reflection Of The Regggio Creativation Observation Being able to visit one of the Reggio Emilia Schools was the best experience I have had while learning about this approach so far. This experience helped put everything that we were learning and discussing earlier in the week into perspective. Today was the day when the Reggio Emilia approach of teacher started to actually make sense to me in the way that it was implemented, since I was able to observe the interactions first hand. When I first walked into the school I was amazed by how open and welcoming it was. I was able to see most of the classroom while just standing in the main area on the ground floor which was completely different than anything I have seen in any schools in the United States. We learned at the end of our time exploring and observing the school that the reason that all of the classrooms are connected or are visible to each other is since their philosophy is that if you have interconnected spaces then you will have interconnected thoughts. They referred to this as transparency when discussing it during our debrief. After getting over just how amazing the layout and environment of this school was, I was able to finally start observing how the interactions and instruction is implemented in this school. I was able to see how older students and younger students were able to learn from each other as well as teachers and students learning from each other. In this school everyone was constantly learning from others by observing, asking questions or just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Gaze Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ; usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay. While they are two very different themes, alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem. The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing, relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has. How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960, audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. • 46. Criminalization of Cyberbullying As the effects of cyber bullying are becoming a growing problem, the criminalization of cyber bullying is needed to prevent its harmful repercussions to the United States and serve as a deterrent. Cyber bullying has become the 21st century version of bullying; it has extended beyond the classroom and onto a virtual world that seems to have no real life effects. The world is now able to bully someone in the comfort of his or her own home, at any given point, with the use of technology. However, Cyber bullying still proves to have lasting impacts on the victim and it is now time for the offender to feel the ramifications of their actions. Studies indicate that cyber bullying incidents have quadrupled in past five years. Cyber ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Threats of violence should also be reported to the police. However, by choosing to criminalize cyber bullying victims will be provided with a way to stop the bullies from harassing them. • 47. Essay about Illegal Aliens Have the Right to Healthcare Everyday people are sent to the hospital. Not only are they in fear of losing their life but also in fear of being in debt due to the prices of health care treatment they need. But what if this patient happens to be an illegal alien? What if the patient has a foreign illness that needs to be cured so it does not spread? Should healthcare providers continue to provide (s) he with treatment even if they cannot pay? Or should illegal aliens be treated just like any other patients by having a right to health care? Illegal aliens are net consumers of public services and they contribute to economic growth (Immigrants Economic Contributions, 2009). Since 1990, immigrants have contributed to job growth in three main ways: They fill an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What the illegal aliens want are jobs that will potentially give them a higher wage in comparison to the country they came from. To effectively weigh whether providing health care to immigrants should be considered a right or privilege, one would have to consider how much they contribute to economic growth. A Pew study from last year showed that undocumented immigrants add 600,000 to 700,000 new consumers to the economy every year. Since consumption makes up 70 percent of economic activity in the U.S., this is important (and of course, more consumption means more sales tax revenue). Immigration is also expected to account for one forth of the Census Bureau s estimated labor force growth through 2012. Some economic estimates gauge that undocumented immigrants contribute $22 billion, in total, to the economy each year a number that would increase if they were given the opportunity to become legal (Karvounis, 2007). This evidence suggests that illegal aliens are actually giving back to the nation by doing all of the dirty, low income jobs and are only using approximately $11 billion in health care and they are contributing about $22 billion a year to the economy. Although these illegals only using half of what they give, they contribute more then what they use. According to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Rhetorical Analysis Of Elizabeth Bishop s One Art One Art is a villanelle filled with sad sentiments of encouragement towards accepting loss. Elizabeth Bishop uses her tone to pull emotions from the reader that could be confusion and disagreement. Her tone deeply impacts the reader in such a way that it causes him/her to seriously think of accepting her opinion and advice. The capturing way she uses her tone in her word choice shows the reader her natural inflexion when she speaks. The tone of her work even affects her characterization. In One Art, Elizabeth Bishop uses tone to convey a character of false casualty, while also using it to emphasize the very heavy impact of her diction. In the first lines of One Art, Bishop s tone is that of a melancholy nature. She states that losing isn t hard to master (line 1). She follows this by proclaiming that everything intends to be lost from the beginning, so disaster should not be felt when those losses take place (line 3). Erin Christian talks somewhat of this in her essay, On Loss in Elizabeth Bishop s One Art . One may infer that Bishop s tone, in these lines, reflects this opinion of easiness with the rhyming of the word master with disaster (Christian 541). This style is used in a villanelle to be rigid and almost unplanned, which reflects the tone of Bishop s words in that her opinions and statements throughout are rather unfocused or disorganized. The way that she encourages her readers to lose something every day is, in her view, a way to get used to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Shakespeare And The World Of Hamlet The world of Hamlet and the world of its playwright, William Shakespeare, are similar in many aspects such as politics and the way women are treated. Another similarity of both worlds is the education system. It is known that Prince Hamlet attends the University of Wittenberg as King Cladius and Queen Gertrude are against Hamlet s return to Wittenberg, stating that [i]t is most retrograde to [their] desire (Shakespeare I.ii.114). The fact that Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, attends university shows that the world of Hamlet, without a doubt, resembles Shakespeare s world. This is because in Shakespeare s world, university is only available to the males of noble and royal families for only they have enough time and money to learn (Elizabethan Era ... • 51. Exploring The Different Values Placed On Art Works Essay AS91487 3.6 Examine the different values placed on art works Mona Lisa Leonardo Da Vinci 1506 The Mona Lisa, 1503 1506, painted on poplar wood (77 x 53cm) with oil paint. This composition was created by Leonardo Da Vinci, a Quattrocento artist of the Italian Renaissance between the years of 1503 1506. The Mona Lisa is unquestionably acclaimed, with great artistic merit and value, to be the most highly revered, renowned painting. This form of art is a portrait, in which Leonardo Da Vinci has painted une donna vera in a somewhat hazy landscape setting. In today s society, Lisa remains behind bulletproof glass, in a temperature controlled box in her current residence, the Louvre museum, in which her role is to challenge each and every one of her 6 million annual visitors. With this in mind, she is one of, if not the most visited painting ever in existence. Da Vinci was born in Italy and, a true Italian patriot he was, he spent most of his lifetime there during which Da Vinci completed many commissions, e.g. the Sforza family who took Da Vinci into their service. His service for the Sforza family continued until Da Vinci returned to Florence when Milan proved to be unsafe. Returning to Florence, Leonardo created many master inventions, appreciated today by many historians and scientists. The famed Mona Lisa portrays a young woman, or in the words of Da Vinci une donna vera whose identity is now confirmed but is still theorised to this day. Such theories ...
