Global Assessment of Biodiversity and the Anthropogenic...
The global assessment of biodiversity and the anthropogenic impacts on them should be an urgent
priority for conservation biologists. Though overhunting, introduced species, habitat destruction,
trophic cascades and climate change (evil quintet) are known to be the potential anthropogenic
threats that are likely to drive extinctions in the future (Diamond 1984, Brook et al. 2008), more
frequently, conservation biologists have focused their attention on visible threats like habitat
destruction, in comparison with invisible threats like overhunting (Galetti Dirzo 2013). Traditional
biodiversity assessments often ignore huntingpressure though they are aware of its presence, or
classify into ways (e.g., heavy, moderate or low hunting) that are unsuitable for auditing by other
researchers (Galetti Dirzo 2013). For example, what might be classified as heavy hunting pressure
by one biologist can be classified as low hunting pressure by another. Moreover, also within the
hunting classifications of a biologist, what is the difference between heavy, moderate and low
hunting pressure? The use of different standards makes auditing of hunting pressure difficult. Here
we ask how to measure the intensity of hunting pressure. Knowing this answer will help us better
understand the effects of hunting on biodiversity loss and set conservation priorities more
efficiently. Flight initiation distance (FID) is the distance between prey and the predator/hunter
when animal begins to flee. If

The Three Messages from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are...
Throughout my high school career, I ve never worked with anything that has made me think so
much. Sure, you can watch the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at face value, have a
few laughs until it stops being funny, and then go on with your life. But you aren t getting out of it
all that Tom Stoppard intended. This play is so much more than just an accompanying work to
Hamlet. It fleshes out the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in a way that makes you
consider your own life! And if you really want to take anything from this play, you need to
understand the messages it contains. This is a challenge to some, because of how deeply they
contrast with the play at face value. But, if you can look deeper, you will a couple... Show more

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are incredibly indecisive, and they just get dragged away by the
currents on the river of life. They are always being told what to do and where to go, and they
never question it. They never stop and think, maybe, we don t have to do this. Unfortunately, they
don t notice this until too late. Once they knew they were doomed, Guildenstern reminisces that at
some point, there had to have been a time where they could have said no; where they could have
stopped all of this from happening. It didn t matter anymore though. They were done. This play is
saying that people need to take charge of their lives, and make their own decisions. Don t just let
life pass you by. Lastly, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Deadteaches the message of knowing
your identity. What were Rosencrantz and Guildenstern missing, above all else? It s not
remembering the past; they could have just worried about the future. It s not decision making; they
could have gotten along fine just following someone else s lead. It works for most people. What
they were really missing was their identities. Neither Rosencrantz nor Guildenstern had fully
developed a sense of self. Neither really did anything that made them distinct from the other. In
essence, they were the same, and interchangeable. This was made clear throughout the duration of
the play, because of several small details. When the two were greeted by people, they often got their
names confused. The

Communication, Language, And Speech Skills
Mrs. Moore has the children do group activities, partner activities, and use their words when
something goes wrong, which are all ways to help develop communication, language, and speech
skills. Parents can continue to help these skills develop at home by talking to their children,
teaching them new words, and having them use their own words to ask for something. Overall,
Addison s communication, language, and speech skills are almost where they need to be and
parents need to focus on her using her words when something goes wrong and having her use more
complete sentences.
Cognitive development is the process of developing intelligence, problem solving skills, and
advanced thought. Addison has showed that she is in the proper state of cognitive development for
her age. On two occasions she has shown she can name and identify eight colors. On April 5, during
testing, she identified a blue rectangle, purple oval, pink triangle, green heart and red circle. On
May 3, at playdough during the flower unit, she identified, when asked what color they were, a
yellow stone, a blue stone, a green stone, an orange stone, pink playdough, and purple playdough.
She has also shown that she can match at least five shapes. On April 5, during testing, she
identified a blue rectangle, purple oval, pink triangle, green heart and red circle. She has also
shown that she can name a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, and heart. On March 3, she
identified the oval she needed to cut out

Textbooks Vs Textbooks In Textbooks
Portable technology such as iPads and tablets in the classroom have become such a norm in
today s society, and students and parents are believing that this is a good thing. Are they really
considering all of the effects of technology and how often it is being used? What is it doing to the
education in schools? Chou et al. states that as of 2012, there were over 2000 school districts that
have adopted different types of electronical devices and this amount is growing rapidly (11).
According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, that is about 11,000 schools as of 2000.
If this trend continues, almost all schools will have switched to using technology such as iPads and
tablets in the classroom. Teachers and administrators believe that this technology increase has
helped students learn more effectively, and more importantly, they believe that it is more cost
effective than staying with the hard copy textbooks. Teachers in K 12 schools should continue to
use traditional textbooks instead of replacing them with tablets because of the student s ability to
retain more information, have a lesser chance of being distracted, and the cost effectiveness of
staying with textbooks. One important reason to stay with traditional textbooks is that students
retain information more effectively when they read from print rather than reading from a screen.

Connecting with Nature in Rip Van Winkle, Thanatopsis, and...
Romanticism is the involvement of emotion, fantasy, and intuition in a story. It happens to be the
opposite of rationalism which involves logic, reason, and rationality in a story. There happens to
be five romantic elements to choose from. They include: dissatisfaction with city life, desire to
connect with nature, concern of individualism, nostalgia for the past, and supernatural interest.
Of the six stories we could choose from all of them have some part of romanticism in them in
one way or another. I chose to express a desire to connect with nature in Rip Van Winkle ,
Thanatopsis , and Walden. Rip Van Winkle desires to leave his nagging wife, driving him into the
woods revealing a gorgeous, woodland landscape and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rip Van Winkle describes multiple images that make it a story with a deep desire to connect with
nature. In the poem Thanatopsis the desire to connect with nature is expressed throughout. Unlike
Rip Van Winkle, Thanatopsis has a very deep meaning within it, not just a whimsical story. The
poem explains that we as humans should embrace death and know that we are a part of the ever
cycling earth. We have a bigger purpose. William Cullen Bryant personified nature in his poem.
He made nature woman like by calling nature her and she. To him who in the love of Nature holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks a various language... (171) He also expressed this
beautiful simplicity and vulnerability to nature and man. The hills rock ribbed and ancient as the
sun, the vales stretching in pensive quietness between; the venerable woods rivers that move in
majesty, and the complaining brooks that make the meadows green... (171) This poem seems to
connect with nature in a different way. It s almost like it embodies nature along with human to
create a smooth transition or meld of the two, and I think that is what creates the desire to connect
with nature for the poem. Walden expresses the desire to connect with nature differently then Rip
Van Winkle , and Thanatopsis. It may not have the whimsical story or a spiritually deeper meaning,

Difference Between English Civil Law And Common Law
English Common Law
English Common Law and Civil Law are very much a different way that countries apply the law.
One of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which
means that that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar
case. Because Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge
role in making the Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future.
Precedents are kept up to date through the years and are historically documented in collections of
case law. The verdict in cases that follow the common law is decided by the jury which is a group
of normal people that have no legal background that listens to ... Show more content on

If the there are no significant facts that are completely different the judge would be forced to use the
precedent set by earlier case.
To show how distinguishing works there are two cases that are commonly used. These common
cases are Merritt v Merritt (1970) and Balfour v Balfour (1919) . In both of the cases, the
defendant is the husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract.
In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go
with him. The husband orally agreed to send money to the wife while he was away working.
When the relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get
the contract enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no
intention to create legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made
between husband and wife and not a legal one.
In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status
of the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would
give money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be
changed to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. The claim succeeded, even
though this agreement was written down and signed by both parties, the husband rejected to

Fluorescent Tagged Protein Research Paper
Essay 47: Fluorescent Tagged Proteins
Proteins tagged with fluorescent markers are extremely versatile tools in cell and molecular
biology research. A fluorescent marker is, as the name suggests, a molecule that emits light of a
particular wavelength following exposure to a photons of a shorter wavelength, for example a
laser beam. If a fluorescent marker is a reasonable size and chemically stable enough to be attached
to a protein, it is potentially useful to molecular biologists. In many cases, the proteins in
question are monoclonal antibodies generated against a particular target of interest such as a cell
surface receptor, a cytoskeletal protein, or a cellular organelle. In some cases, a fluorescent label
is used to track the fate of a particular protein as it is processed in the ER and Golgi complex,
transported along microtubules, or secreted from the cell altogether. In still other cases, two or
more fluorescently tagged proteins are introduced into the same cell to see whether they localize in
the same or separate compartments or organelles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this method, cells are incubated with antibodies conjugated with fluorescent dyes such as FITC
(fluoroscein isothiocyanate), which emits green wavelengths of light; PE (phycoerythrin), or Texas

wavelengths as

Estella Alternate Ending
Unrequited love is love that is not reciprocated. It is unlikely that the person being loved will
ever return the love even if a large amount of time has passed. In Great Expectations by Charles
Dickens, Pip falls in love with Estella the first time he meets her, but she does not love Pip back.
Throughout Pip s life, he thinks about how beautiful Estella is and how she was meant for him.
The novel ends with an original ending, where Pip finds out how Estella has remarried so he
remains single, and a revised ending, which suggests that Pip and Estella might have a relationship
together. The original ending is more fitting since it fits with the novel s expectation of the ending
which is that Pip and Estella should not possibly be in a romantic relationship, while the revised
ending doesn t fit with the expectations. The entire novel places the presumption that there will not
be an amorous connection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During another one of Pip s visits to Miss Havisham, Estella tells him, You must know that I
have no heart [...] I have no softness there, no sympathy sentiment nonsense (238). In this part of
the novel, Estella reveals to Pip that she cannot experience romantic feelings, which makes it
impossible for him and Estella to be together romantically. Estella destroyed all of Pip s
opportunities to marry her when she told him about her future plans. Why not tell you the truth?
I am going to be married to [Drummle ...] The preparations for my marriage are making, and I
shall be married soon [...] It is my own act (363 364). Since Estella is getting married to Pip s
worst enemy, there is no way Pip is getting together with her because she will be already married.
All of these signs of Estella being malicious towards Pip and giving him no chance to marry her
suggests that the most fitting ending to Great Expectations would be one where she still does not

1984 And Fahrenheit 451
In the texts, 1984, by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the concepts of
totalitarianism and censorship are addressed in various ways. Both texts are of dystopian fiction, set
in post nuclear war nations, although they are somewhat of a different nature. The concepts of
totalitarianism and censorship are explored throughout the texts by addressing the issue of
knowledge is power , the use and abuse of technology and the desensitising of society. Although
these are mentioned in both 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, they are different in the way they are
approached by each totalitarian government, as the government in 1984 is much more severe in the
way each of these issues are dealt with in the text.
Orwell and Bradbury address ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both authors emphasise the message that knowledge is power in order to warn modern society of
the damage that can be done by embracing totalitarianism regimes. Orwell is much stronger in
portraying it, which is displayed through the party slogan who controls the past controls the future,
who controls the present controls the past . Bradbury acknowledges this by removing literature,
although people are still free to think. Orwell takes it further by making readers question, what
knowledge can be trusted? If all thought is removed, eventually, nobody will be able to have power
because if the knowledge is unknown to be true, it cannot be used to form a common argument
against the government.
In 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, the governments utilise technology to abuse the citizens rights to
privacy as well as advertise political propaganda. In both texts, television plays an integral part
of the use of technology. In Bradbury s text, a 24/7 TV program includes the audience in order to
provide the impression they are an important part of society, whereas in Orwell s text, the
telescreens are not only used for propaganda, but also to constantly monitor Oceania s citizens.
This is evident when Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he
well knew, even a back can be revealing. In Fahrenheit 451, the TV program

Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Despite the economic crisis, health and wellness sector in Singapore has always recorded a
steady growth starting from S$140 million a year. The factor causing the high amount of revenue
is due to high tourist arrivals and the increase in wealth of individuals. People are more willing to
part with their money in return for exotic treatments and multiple treatment packages. There has
also been a 63% increase in the number of spas since 2003. Due to the potential gains, big players
and new companies are setting up shop in Singapore.
The Massage Establishment Act requires a Massage Establishment (ME) License to allow the
company to operate its massage, foot reflexology services, spa baths, manicure and similar
treatments. The ME License is separated into 2 categories, Category I and Category II. Category I
license is more popular among the spa business as licensees can enjoy serving alcohol, admitting
customers regardless of age, unrestricted operating hours and employing foreign therapists or
masseuses.
Before applying for the License, there are a set of conditions that needs to be met before the
license can be issued. These conditions are:
Business Condition
пѓјRegistering business with Singapore Companies Registrar, ACRA
Applicant Condition
пѓј21 years old at time of application

Difference Between Working Class And Poor Mothers
For working class and poor mothers, intensive mothering and consumerism are still equally linked
to their view of themselves as good mothers. The only difference between working class and poor
mothers versus middle and upper class women is that the working class/poor have to work harder
to attain the good motherstatus. According to Takseva (2014), Children can be used as an object of
display conferring the desired social status(p.224) and, Membership in a group is often defined
through the purchasing of goods and services (p.225). Therefore, mothers who do not present their
children in the best clothes or toys are seen as bad mothers, so mothers of the lower classes have
to work harder to ascribe their children the same status as the children in upper classes. Many
working class mothers experience guilt that due to the lack of financial resources they are not being
good mothers because they cannot provide their children with the same life chances that they would
if they had more money (Takseva, 2014, p.227). These mothers find alternative strategies to define
themselves as good mothers such as knowing where and when to shop for bargains, and actively
engaging their children into understanding what products can/cannot be purchased so that they
have realistic expectations (Takseva, 2014, p.227). However, on the other extreme intensive
mothering is so prevalent in today s society that, Parents will go against their better judgment about
budgets, in the case of

Discovering The Underlying Causes Of High Poverty Rates
Discovering the Underlying Causes of High Poverty Rates in Detroit, Michigan
Detroit, Michigan is known as the wasteland city where every street corner has homeless people,
condemned buildings, violence, drug deals, boarded homes, and poverty. Poverty in this city is at
an understandably high rate with all the negative aspects stacking up against it. In 2003 alone, a
third of the population of Detroit was living under the federal poverty line (Grengs, 2007, p.348).
Detroit was not always this mess of a city it is now, but when what is referred to as the disaster of
Detroit happened, no one lifted a finger to help. Instead, people accepted the fact that Detroit was
what it was. Many Americans, are unconcerned. . . . Eight out of ten, more than anywhere else,
believe that though you may start poor, if you work hard, you can make pots of money. It is a
central part of the American dream (Herron, 2007, p.667 668). Although Detroit, Michigan has one
of the highest poverty rates in America, it is not entirely because drugs, money, and violence, but
rather through a constant lack of support this city receives. This paper examines high poverty levels
in Detroit, Michigan and the underlying causes.
The abandonment of Detroit by its own residence and the government led directly to its downfall.
Today Detroit is America s forgotten city. Or at least forgetting is what most Americans hope will
happen to Detroit and all it stands for, an uncanny place that only looks like a city

Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics
As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the
same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of
human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity
(Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain
extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most
importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed
foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss
how ideological biases within the Police and to a certain extent the... Show more content on

These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and
crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become
less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of
people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal
groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun
crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics
can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular
group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a
cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases
levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels
the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair.
Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of
deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as
deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their

Suicide Can Be A Difficult Topic To Discuss. Especially
Suicide can be a difficult topic to discuss. Especially if one has known someone who has

States. For the elderly, it is the 13th, and for the young (15 24) it is it the 3rd leading cause of
death (pp. 83 87). The increasing rate of suicidehas called implementations of suicide prevention

The staff members that implement the program do not have educational, mental health training, or
licensure requirements. However, program kits are required. The program kits are about $400. The
kits are full of useful information and resources. Some of the things that are included are program
implementation guides, student response cards, Will to Live packets, student newsletters, access to
online resources, and the Brief Screen for Adolescent Depression (BSAD) forms. The program also
has an interactive training module online for school staff and supporters.
Research on this program has shown a favorable outcome of reduced suicide. At a 3 month posttest,
it was found that intervention high school students were less likely than control students to report
having had suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts ( SAMHSA, 2014). Results were taken from
questionnaires. This program, however, is ineffective for increasing the receipt of mental health
and/or substance abuse treatment and ineffective for increasing social competence related to help

Wise Words From Byzantium Is A Heaven
Byzantium was one of the major cities of the world. The whole city was like an art exhibit with
layers of gold on the roofs of buildings. In the article, Guide to a Golden Age, by Canon
Comerford, it says, For Yeats, the holy city of Byzantium especially the Byzantium of Justinian
represented a golden age that produced lasting cultural monuments: the Justinian Code, which
provided the basis of European law, and so many works of art and architecture. Byzantium was
the best place imaginable, like paradise. Paradise for many, is heaven. Maybe Byzantium displayed
a real world experience of what heaven would look and feel like. Paradise is a place with peace and
serenity where everything is beautiful and surreal. In paradise, there are no... Show more content on

Life can suck at times. People can be stretched every direction and feel as if they are being beat
on. There are times when people feel physically and emotionally worn out to the point where
they want to give up. However, when those people continue to stay strong and fight, they
accomplish amazing things and learn more than they could have ever imagined. Truth is,
everybody will face trials in life, but it s how people react to them that makes a difference. In the
article, Wise Words From Wise Leaders, by Kenyon Craig, it says, We all face adversity at some
point in our lives. Our success lies in how we handle it. Many of us allow challenges to defeat
us. What I say to you is this: accept your challenge head on. If you focus on developing into a
stronger and wiser individual, you will succeed not in spite of, but because of the very
challenges you face. The most successful people in life don t get that way from having it easy
in life. When a person accepts a challenge and learns from their mistakes and hardships that is
when they are able to rise above the rest. Why? Because they understand concepts that others
couldn t even begin to grasp. They know the importance of life and just how drastically it can
change. They appreciate what they have and cherish the little things in life. In the poem, the
speaker calls upon the older and experienced people to, come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
and be the singing masters of my soul. (pg. 1148 lines 19 20) He wants to learn from them and
have them help him live a life worth

This article is about a custom made Louboutin shoe made to celebrate Disney s re release of the
famous story Cinderella on DVD and Blu ray in the autumn of 2012. The shoe is embellished with
crystal butterflies and has a sheer lace design with the iconic Louboutin red sole.
I had the idea of a custom shoe for my version of Cinderella. The glass slipper in Perrault s version
was one of a kind and that s the reason that we had a happily ever after. I would like to preserve
that in my paper but we no longer have one of a kind shoes. I believe it was fate that when I

Essay about The Subculture of Scuba Divers
The focus of this research paper is to analyze the information, unique characteristics, and history
regarding the subculture of scuba divers. Scuba divers get to explore new, exciting, and
breathtaking regions in the ocean that many people never get to experience in their whole lives.
Scuba divers hold important roles in society because of the discoveries they make on a daily basis.
They provide much needed research that is important in the scientific community regarding newly
discovered marine species. Scuba divers get the opportunity to explore exceptionally beautiful ocean
features that include shipwrecks, coral reefs, and other stunning tropical ocean regions. Many

As time progressed, the equipment that was used for scuba diving began to be perfected, and
many workout clubs began featuring classes to train people how to dive (Ed LaRochelle, 2009).
This allowed scuba diving to become a leisure activity that anyone could engage in (Ed
LaRochelle, 2009). Jacques Cousteau was a famous scuba diver who made many discoveries,
including many new innovative tools and equipment such as the aquatic lung (Ryan Spence,
2010). He also produced over 100 television episodes discussing the different aspects of scuba
diving along with his new inventions (Ryan Spence, 2010). Sylvia Earle was another
recognizable person in the field of scuba diving (Sue Vander Hook, 2001). She was a famous
figure because she was the first person ever to dive to two hundred and fifty feet breathing
compressed air in a Jim Suit, and she broke many records for deepest dives in submersibles (Sue
Vander Hook, 2001). Thirdly, Augustus Siebe created a diving suit that included a copper helmet
and rubber material for a more flexible suit (John Bantin, 2007). This invention by Siebe allowed
divers to dive to deeper depths into the ocean and explore more wrecks and ocean features (John
Bantin, 2007). Jacques Cousteau once said, Innovation is nothing more than the tool of the

Pumpkin Roll Chemistry
Leaves are turning an array orange, red, and yellow and beginning to fall. The weathers getting
cooler, coats are coming out, and holidays are near. During the fall my family and I love to spend
time together to bake everything from pies to cookies to donuts. The very first thing I learned how
to make is a pumpkin roll. Bakinga pumpkin roll is my favorite thing to bake all you have to do is
gather the ingredients, mix them all together to bake and then serve them. A pumpkin roll consist
of two parts the cakeand the filling. When baking a pumpkin roll the first thing you should do is
head to your local grocery store and gather all the ingredients.
To bake the cake you need the following ingredients:

After all the ingredients are measured, preheat the oven to 375В° F. Next, get a 15 x 10 inch
jelly roll pan, grease it well and line it with wax paper. The wax paper must be greased and have
flour to ensure the cake does not stick to the paper. Moreover you will need a thin, moist cotton
kitchen towel sprinkled with a layer of powdered sugar. To begin with, combine the dry
ingredients, including flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt in small
bowl. Stir the mixture until all the dry ingredients are fully mixed. Secondly, combine the eggs
and granulated sugar in a large mixer bowl until mixture is thick. Then add the canned pumpkin
in the large bowl with the eggs and sugar. Mix the dry ingredients in the large bowl with the rest
of the ingredients. By now the baking process is half way through. Pour the mixture on the
greased pan with the wax paper. At this time if you would like nuts in your cake you may
sprinkle them on the mixture. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until
top of cake springs back when touched. (If using a dark colored pan, begin checking for doneness
at 11 minutes.) When the cake is finished immediately loosen and turn cake onto prepared towel.
Be sure the towel has enough powdered sugar when rolling up the cake so it will not stick.

Heroism In Short Stories
Heroism is a concept that is involved in many short stories, books and poems. A hero is someone
who us as a reader root for throughout the story. Any hero may have noble accomplishments and
qualities in their life. Though we are able to see heroes in many stories, there are also people who
are antiheroes. The story The Power and The Glory by Graham Greene is an example of a story
that involves an antiherorepresented as the whiskey priest. In The Power And The Glory and in the
United States president Donald Trumpwe are able to see examples of antiheroes. It is important to
note that there are two types of heroes. A normal hero is someone who we enjoy and want to see

The story takes place in the 1930s and 40s Mexico where the Catholic religion is outlawed. This
makes for a very hard life for the priest. With all the anxiety and stress of trying not to be caught
by those of authority he turns to drinking to help him. The characteristic of an antihero we see in
this example is that most antiheroes usually do what they think is right for them. In this case the
priest thinks that he needs to turn to drinking to help him. Here are some examples of how the
priest from The Power and The Glory is an antihero. In today s world there is a very popular
antihero that has been making news headlines for the last couple of years. That person is Donald
Trump, the president of the United States of America. Greed was a characteristic that the whiskey
priest contained and same is true for this antihero. He has said that he wants rich people like
himself to pay less taxes meaning he wants as much money as possible a very common
characteristic of an antihero. Your typical anti hero will usually be someone who is
misunderstood and not relatable to the general population and society. He grew up very wealthy
and was granted a 1 million dollar loan to start his company and is president of a county. This is
an example of something that very many people can relate to and never will be able to.

Mary V Peter Case Summary
Question 1
Mary v Peter
Issue
Given that Mary was injured by Peters act, is he solely liable for the accident?
Law
* In this case, we have to look at the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) to determine who was
negligent and in specific, we use s 5B(1), s 5B(2) and s 5R of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW);
s 5B(1) for the reasonable foreseeability test, s 5B(2) for determining if the standard of reasonable
care has been breached and s 5R for contributory negligence. * Where both the parties seem to have
been negligent, it is important to determine who is more at fault and for this purpose we need to
use the but for test as in the case of Cork v Kirby Maclean [1952] 2 ALL ER 402. * The

* We need to look at s 5R of Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) which states that the plaintiff should
take reasonable care to avoid harm to themselves.
Application
The test of reasonable foreseeability can be seen from the case Ultramares Corp v Touche,
Niven Co 174 NE 441 (1931), in which the defendants were negligent while auditing a company.
The said company then went on to borrow money on the basis that its accounts were correct. The
lender upon learning that the accounts were wrong filed a suit against the company and the
auditor and the court had to decide who was liable to the lender. The court decided that the
defendant was not liable as any person who read the report can then file a complaint against him
leading to unlimited liability. Peter should have foreseen that his negligent action would cause a
traffic jam affecting the other road users. Just as in this case, Peter is not responsible for Sam s
loss as anyone stuck in the traffic jam and affected by the traffic jam could then file suit against
Peter and find him responsible to an unlimited number of liabilities.
In the Perre v Apand (1999) 198 CLR 180 case, the defended sprayed harmful chemicals
carelessly on one farm and the crops on that and the adjacent farms were destroyed by this. Since,
it was reasonably foreseeable that careless spraying of chemicals would lead to such

The Internship Reflection
Storyline summary
The Internship is a film in which two middle aged salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and
Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) find that their careers have become redundant due to the increasing
growth and development of modern technology, in which they are not well versed.
Billy McMahon and Nick Campbell now face unemployment and have no desirable directions to
venture towards. It is in the time of this crisis that Billy McMahon shows his resilience to surrender
as he spots the opportunity of a Google internship.
Their unorthodox interview responses and persuasive salesmen nature causes the Google
management to be intrigued enough to accept them into the intern program in spite of their clear
lack of the necessary expertise.

former employer neglected to manage this dysfunctional conflict and thus neither of the conflicted

Rhetorical Analysis of What the Numbers Show About N.F.L. Player Arrests
Neil Irwin s What the Numbers Show About N.F.L. Player Arrests takes a strongly analytical
look at N.F.L. player s arrest records. Using a database from USA Today, Irwin forms that data
into easy to process statistics and graphs. He then goes on to make theories to explain
correlations we find in this data. The writer leans heavily on the use of statistics, but also uses
Appeal to the Opposition, and Concrete Examples to put together this piece. The writer makes
excellent use of statistics and graphs numerous times throughout the article. One N.F.L. player
in 40 is arrested in a given year. (Irwin 181) Neil Irwin starts off in his body paragraphs by giving
the reader a sense of scale upon which the rest of the essay is built. His statistics also have a
strong credibility to them, since they come from USA Today a well known and respected
newspaper. Some 28 percent of the arrests in the database were for driving under the influence,
with 202 incidents. Other frequent categories of charges include assault and battery (88 cases) and
drug related offenses (82). (Irwin 182) Here the writer also covers the amount of players arrested by
crime, placing strong emphasis on the number of driving while intoxicated charges. In doing this,
he breaks it down in a way which shows not all of these arrest are as serious as others. The number
of arrests by team range from a low of 11 (tie between the

The Effect Of Ph Solution Of Feed Phase On The Removal...
Figure. 7. Effect of pH solution of feed phase on the removal efficiency of citric acid
Transport conditions: Feed phase: citric acid 10 2 M, pH 2 12. Stripping phase: deionized water,
pH=6.8. Membrane: 12.60 cm2 of surface area, Calix[4]resorcinarene (0.15 g/g mixture of
polymers), 0.03 ml 2 NPOE/g mixture of polymers. Values obtained after 5 days of experimentation.
3.8 Stability of PIMs
In this study, one PIM was reused, whereas the feed and strip phases were replaced after one cycle
with fresh ones in 5 experiments and each experiment lasted from 4 days. As observed in Fig. 8.
The initial flux of PIM shows a gradual decrease with increasing of cycle s reuse, which may be

Conclusion
In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied for the removal
of citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA was found to be the optimum
base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid. Moreover, the nature of carrier especially
alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of feed phase are also important factors affecting the
increased rate of citric acid transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the
investigated calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction
abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle. Choosing the
appropriate length of alkyl chain, very selective system can be designed. The excellent efficiency
for the citric acid transport by the proposed PIM system reveals its potential application for the
selective removal, concentration and purification of citric acid from different media.

The Kalam Argument That God Is The Creator Of The Universe
The Kalam argument is the best argument to explain that God is the Creator of the universe. Some
of the major expositors of this argument are Lane Craig, JP Moreland, Groothuis and many others.
This cosmological argument is divided in three sections, the first premise states Whatever begins
has a cause it denies the idea that nothing came out of nothing. In fact, nothing lacks all casual
power, therefore material things should have a cause. Groothuis in his book shares that he does not
conceive the idea that a musician appears in from of him from nowhere. Therefore all beginnings
have to have a cause. The universeis not eternal because it has a beginning. The second premise

Banning Written Texts Should Not Baned Books
Until recently, the trend of banning thousands of time honored books was routinely taking place
in public libraries and schools across the country. Presently, many censored books are prevailing
on library shelves and remaining in the hands of students. Without a doubt, banning a book
entirely deprives people of being able to think differently and learn about new topics. However,
censoring books is an exceptional way to allow those who are easily offended to read a written
work without raising an eyebrow. A person will still comprehend the idea of a censored text,
while not becoming insulted by it. Written texts should not be banned because people should be
able to choose for themselves what they wish to read, but written texts should be censored for
people who are sensitive and feel a text is too provocative or offensive for them.
Banning a written text is wrong and unacceptable for numerous reasons. Banning a text limits
people s point of view and keeps them in their comfort zone; people are able to choose for
themselves what they want to read. Limiting society s point of view is a crime; people will
forever be narrow minded and unable to form their own opinions, if this continues. For example, the
article Book Banning Endangers Majority Values, states, Conservative materials on the issue of
homosexuality are disappearing from the collection, or more often, never appearing in the first

Eusebius Pamphilus Life Of The Blessed Emperor
The Life of the Blessed Emperor Constantine Part One is one in a set of four in depth historical
books about the life of Constantine, and is authored by Eusebius Pamphilus (also known as
Eusebius of Caesarea). Eusebius structured this book to follow the history of Constantine from the
time of his birth until the time of Licinius (Maxamin II Daia) decline into ill health. Eusebius of
Caesarea, born in 260 A.D. and died in 340 A.D, is referred to as the father of church history due to
his penchant recording of historical church events. Moreover, Eusebius was an educated man,
which allowed him the skill to record the history of the church as told to him, often times by
witnesses themselves. In addition, Eusebius was a devout Christian. During the year 313, Eusebius
Pamphili was named bishop of Caesarea. It s no surprise why Eusebius writes about Flavius

The Effects Of News Media On Today s Society
The news media s role in today s society is interlocked and essential to the conveying of
information. The news media has access to television broadcasting and has people to go find
stories to broadcast. However, as time has progressed, the news media has become more and more
opinionated. Consequently, the bias of the news media in their reporting s has tainted the opinions
of the American people. By creating a strict set of laws pertaining to the reporting of news, bias
within reports will have to decrease; causing a less opinionated audience, people feeling better about
themselves and humanity, and the United Statesgrowth as a stronger country.
The news media in today s world is far too opinionated. On a regular basis, the news media and
other news outlets are often discussing opinions, their own opinions, and other s opinions about
stories and news reports rather than the reports themselves. During a discussion about Donald
Trump s immigration policy on August 25th, 2016, on the CNN newsroom, one of the reporters
said that we heard this shift on his immigration policy. However, one of the other reporters

Comparison and Contrast between Two Book Chapters

talks about their main contributions for their companies, problems they experienced, and their
similarities and differences; and concludes by discussing the factors that may have impacted their
success. The data for this paper is taken from the book, What the Best CEOs Know; 7 Exceptional

successful brands cannot do it by imposing their own views on the marketplace ... there needs to be
a mechanism in place whereby the company learns to make the products that its target customers
actually want (Krames, 2003, p. 59). With this philosophy, he built a company that continuously
attempts to interact with the customer at as many levels as possible to provide the customer with
what they want at the price they want. Andy Grove is the cofounder and former CEO of Intel.

good observation, the nurse has the opportunity to recognize difficulties the new mother may be

to make weekly phone calls or postpartum home visits; this could potentially save the life of the
newborn or the mother herself (Lowdermilk, 2016). The nurse should also work closely with the
family to ensure all areas are covered; for the areas that are not, the nurse should encourage the
family and friends of the mother to help out until she has gotten through this tough time. Not only
is the new mother experiencing changes, but the partner is also. The nurse should provide
opportunities that are nonjudgmental for the partner to express their concerns and feelings,
strategies for coping, and motivation to continue support the mother (Lowdermilk, 2016). As long

Sisters Frieda By Toni Morrison
Sisters Frieda and Claudia know they were getting a new sister. Well not exactly. Because Pecola s
father burnt down their home, she was sent to live with the MacTeer family until her family was
able to take her back. Frieda and Claudia do not know what to make of Pecola. First off she is ugly,
this little black girl, whom no one will ever call beauty. What she long for is blue eyes. The bluest
eyes in the world, as if she was like all those blonde fair skin blue eye girls, her familywould love
her, and mend their broken home. Where Pecola very view times get to narrates her story, it is
told from other perspective, including events to led to her home life. From Claudia s point of view

For Toni Morrison the racism is shouted clear as day throughout the story, but it leaves you with
a weird feeling of oddness. To start with our main girl Pecola, who even though is the main
protagonist, she is quite weak and mysterious though the book. Her passive way towards her
family and bulling, led her to believe she was ugly (what her mother said about her the minute
she was born) and the only way to change her life was to change her eye color blue, like all the
happy white girls had it. Pecola s passiveness made her not able to change throughout the story,
thus leaving the readers angry at Morrison for not saving the girl, because that would be out of
character. instead you are left bitter about the other character s reactions towards Pecola,
because she will not do anything to defend herself, thus you are left reading about the
misfortunes that fall upon the poor child. Claudia is seen as an opposite to Pecola, and although
she is also black, she resents the white blonde blue eye America dream that Pecola wants, but
instead destroys any propaganda about it (ripping the heads of her Barbie dolls), and defend
Pecola, not seeing why people mock her friend. Morrison also gives the back story to both Pecola s
parents to show how Pecola s home become broken. Also held warning to the trigger warnings as
where this is a good book, it is best to know these things before you start reading so instead of

Concept Analysis Of Pain And Pain
Concept Analysis of Pain The most common reason that people seek medical care is pain, and
pain is the leading cause of disability (Peterson Bredow, 2013, p. 51; National Institute of Health,
2010). Pain is such an important topic in healthcare that the United States congress identified 2000
to 2010 as the Decade of PainControl and Research (Brunner L. S., et al., 2010, p. 231).
Unfortunatelly, patients are reporting a small increase in satisfaction with the pain management
while in the hospital (Bernhofer, 2011). Pain assessment and treatment can be complex since
nurses do not have a tool to quantify it. Pain is considered the fifth vital sign, however, we do
not have numbers to guide our interventions. Pain is a subjective expirience that cannot be shared
easily. Since nurses spend more time with patients in pain than any other healthcare provider,
nurses must have a clear understanding of the concept of pain (Brunner, et al., 2010). Concept
analysis main objective is to clarify ideas, to enhance critical thinking, and to promote
communication (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). This paper will examine the concept of pain using
Wilson s Steps of Concept Analysis (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Concept analysis are particularly
helpful in explaining ambiguous concepts (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Pain is defined in multiple
ways. Also, pain has is associated with a lot of misconceptions. This concept analysis objective is
to bring clarity and to provide a deeper understanding of pain.

Essay about Mexico City
Mexico City
Like an enormous living museum, Mexico City provides an extraordinary showplace for the
thousands of years of human cultural achievement that Mexico has attained. It ranks as one of the
world s great capitals and is a must for anyone craving to understand Mexico s complex past, its fast
paced present, and its ever challenging future. The size and grandeur of the city are staggering. It is
not only the oldest continuously inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere, but, by some accounts,
has also become the largest city in the world. Before we look at present day Mexico City, let us look
into it deep and storied past.

Many buildings and streets were constructed, and it served as cultural and social center of North
and South America. When 1810 came, however, a Mexican Independence movement, started by
Miguel Hidalgo, caused Mexican peasants to fight against the Spanish government. After 11 years,
the fight was successful, and Mexico declared its independence.
Mexico City was the center of many more conflicts in Mexican history. In 1847, the city was
captured by U.S. forces under Winfield Scott to end the Mexican American War. The price for
Mexico was the loss of the land that is now most of the southern U.S. In 1863, the city was
captured again, but this time by French forces, upset that Mexico refused to pay its debt to France
on time. The French controlled the city for a year until Mexican forces retook it in 1864.
Over the next 30 years, Mexico City really began to thrive. Under Porfirio Diaz, more roads and
telegraph lines were constructed. Rail lines into the U.S. and other provinces of Mexico were built,
and foreign investment greatly increased, as well. In 1910, Mexico City had grown to a population
of 471,000. The following 10 years saw all of Mexico in a state of disarray as a revolution was
taking place.
During the 1920 s, many young artists, suck as Diego Rivera, David Alfonso Siqueiros, and Jose

1. Limewater Test: As we exhaled CO2 in the limewater solution, the CO2 reacted with Ca(OH)2
and changed the clear colorless limewater solution to precipitated white solution. The precipitation
was caused due to the calcium in the limewater solution. It took us 5 attempts to turn the clear
colorless limewater solution to a milky white solution. 2. Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: As
phenolphthalein indicator was added to NaOH and H2O solution, it made the solution turn clear
pink. The phenolphthalein indicator detects the presence of the base in the solution by changing
the color of the solution from clear colorless to clear pink. As we exhaled into the pink solution, the

Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq)
Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the
tests immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous
exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this
change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy
to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the
body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is
specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular
respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation
reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one
glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis
yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules
during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is
also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule
succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points
exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being
exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there
would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at
rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase
of CO2 in the reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would
be faster as

Christ Crucifixion
The Dream of The Rood is considered one of the finest of religious poems written during the
Anglo Saxon period (Book). The poem begins with the narrator, whom the reader later discovers
is the rood, stating that he or she is going to talk about a dream. In said dream, the most beautiful
tree is spotted glistening with gold and gems; the tree then begins to bleed from the right side. The
entirety of the poem is describing, from the rood s point of view, the crucifixionof JesusChrist. The
poem has many aspects of Anglo Saxon literature, and differs in several ways from the actual
bible telling of the crucifixion; in The Dream of The Rood, Jesus is depicted as more of an anglo
saxon like warrior, the cross endures more pain than Jesus himself, and
Before the belief of the afterlife in Heaven, derived heavily from Christianity, men believed that
they would be remembered for generations to come solely by the heroic and chivalrous acts
they had done in their lifetime. The typical Anglo Saxon hero was a warrior; he was strong,
intelligent, courageous and willing to fight to death for the love of their lords or kings (Kundu).

Macbeth Change Throughout The Play
The story Macbeth being a lot of interesting and exciting drama to the audience. In my opinion
this script in modern times, shows the human greed for power and respect. It shows how people
cannot be happy with what they currently have. That is why Macbeth loses his and his wife s live
over greed. After reading the play Macbeth, I could imagine him as a muscular, tall, short hair,
blond, with a scar on his right eye. Through understanding Macbeth, I can conclude that his mental
traits are courageous, dependent, and greedy. Macbeth s emotions change over time; however, he
turned from a kind hearted person, to a careless and depressed individual. Macbeth s biggest
obstacle is relying his fate on witches that clam that they know his path. Therefore, listening to
these witches and doing everything to follow the path they chose for him, he turns from a kind,
loyal, and honorable person to a tyrant. The weird sisters play the fate of Macbeth s life, they
change Macbeth and brainwash him to follow their sayings. I portray the witches as undead, pale
colored, human beings with missing chunks of skin, also, they rise from the ground every time they
want to perform with black smoke around them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why have Starbucks customer satisfaction scores declined? Has the company s service declined,
or is it simply measuring satisfaction the wrong way? Overall, Starbucks customer satisfaction
scores began to decline due to their steps of service and customer centric service in the stores.
Starbucks differentiated itself by providing more beverage choices and allowing the customers to
customize their drinks. However, this worked against them because they were in heavily dense
areas that contributed to longer wait time. Additionally, that led Starbucks customers to believe the
coffee chain was focus on making money and building more stores not customer satisfaction. A
poll of the customers improvements to service, particularly speed of service, was most mentioned.
How Does the Starbucks of 2002 differ from the Starbucks of 1992? In 1992 the company had
$100,000 in savings and The coffee brand was successful, but still relatively small. After going
public the company started focusing on the expansion of the brand. Starbucks had 140 stores
located in the Northwest and Chicago. Ten years later, in 2002, Starbucks had over 4500 stores I

changing power of Vietnam, that a sweet innocent young girl can come into this land and be
forever consumed by her surroundings. The speaker show us this through character action,

She wanted to know everything about Vietnam, she didn t just want to sit back and watch. She

Memi And Sabu Comparison
Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back
before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi
and Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use
hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people
from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities,
perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles
of design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these
civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them.

Memi and Sabu clearly have an intimate relationship and unlike Gudea, great detail has gone into
shaping the contours and details of their bodies. One can see the feminine slope of Sabu s torso
making her much more delicate and small in comparison to her partner. We can see the muscular
detail of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much
lighter compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall.
There is also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look
almost as if they could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels
more cemented. He is formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of
weight and importance. His texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Gudea s pose is
much more thoughtful, his hands clasped, his shoulders squared and together these elements echo
the inscriptions of his great work as a religious

Water Fashion Essay
Water Fashion In this day and age, the metaphorical pastor of American culture no longer preaches
patience. This is due, in part, to our rapid economic development, boosting the U.S. into the fifth
stage of Rostow s model for economic development; the Age of Mass Consumption (this model
entails that a country begins in poverty, introduces varying levels of industry, becomes
economically self sufficient, and, in the final stage, outsources all industry to developing countries).
The Age of Mass Consumption is just as deadly as it sounds, incurring insatiable demand for cheap
labor, and therefore a wasteful popular mindset. And so ensues consumerism, the love child of
social media and cheap manufacturing. Consumerism bears it s own dangerous children, including
but not limited to genetically modified organisms, pesticides, Costco, smartphones, wireless
Internet, Netflix, and fast fashion. The vast majority of Americans will recognize the
aforementioned phenomenon of pop culture, except perhaps fast fashion . For those unfamiliar

The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools
Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that
punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are
a small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical
punishment are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a
reasonable physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of
misbehaving. However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning
of such type of violence. Corporal punishmentcan be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in
the long term, severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more
corporal punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more
likely to develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues
make them become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol
abuse. Once the children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent
child relationship gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe
that such disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a
letter recently written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow
corporal punishment in school:

Balcony Scnece in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet

There is a sense of physical longing between the characters in the scene. Romeo and Juliet long

Romeo very much. The vow guaranteed that they would both see each other again. Romeo s
observation: O that I were a glove upon that Hand, That I might touch that cheek, shows Romeo s
physical longing for Juliet. And his demand at the end of the scene: O, wilt though leave me so
unsatisfied? followed by her reply: What satisfaction canst though have to night? This is another
example of the couple s sexual tension.

  • 2. Global Assessment of Biodiversity and the Anthropogenic... The global assessment of biodiversity and the anthropogenic impacts on them should be an urgent priority for conservation biologists. Though overhunting, introduced species, habitat destruction, trophic cascades and climate change (evil quintet) are known to be the potential anthropogenic threats that are likely to drive extinctions in the future (Diamond 1984, Brook et al. 2008), more frequently, conservation biologists have focused their attention on visible threats like habitat destruction, in comparison with invisible threats like overhunting (Galetti Dirzo 2013). Traditional biodiversity assessments often ignore huntingpressure though they are aware of its presence, or classify into ways (e.g., heavy, moderate or low hunting) that are unsuitable for auditing by other researchers (Galetti Dirzo 2013). For example, what might be classified as heavy hunting pressure by one biologist can be classified as low hunting pressure by another. Moreover, also within the hunting classifications of a biologist, what is the difference between heavy, moderate and low hunting pressure? The use of different standards makes auditing of hunting pressure difficult. Here we ask how to measure the intensity of hunting pressure. Knowing this answer will help us better understand the effects of hunting on biodiversity loss and set conservation priorities more efficiently. Flight initiation distance (FID) is the distance between prey and the predator/hunter when animal begins to flee. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Three Messages from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are... Throughout my high school career, I ve never worked with anything that has made me think so much. Sure, you can watch the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at face value, have a few laughs until it stops being funny, and then go on with your life. But you aren t getting out of it all that Tom Stoppard intended. This play is so much more than just an accompanying work to Hamlet. It fleshes out the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in a way that makes you consider your own life! And if you really want to take anything from this play, you need to understand the messages it contains. This is a challenge to some, because of how deeply they contrast with the play at face value. But, if you can look deeper, you will a couple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are incredibly indecisive, and they just get dragged away by the currents on the river of life. They are always being told what to do and where to go, and they never question it. They never stop and think, maybe, we don t have to do this. Unfortunately, they don t notice this until too late. Once they knew they were doomed, Guildenstern reminisces that at some point, there had to have been a time where they could have said no; where they could have stopped all of this from happening. It didn t matter anymore though. They were done. This play is saying that people need to take charge of their lives, and make their own decisions. Don t just let life pass you by. Lastly, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Deadteaches the message of knowing your identity. What were Rosencrantz and Guildenstern missing, above all else? It s not remembering the past; they could have just worried about the future. It s not decision making; they could have gotten along fine just following someone else s lead. It works for most people. What they were really missing was their identities. Neither Rosencrantz nor Guildenstern had fully developed a sense of self. Neither really did anything that made them distinct from the other. In essence, they were the same, and interchangeable. This was made clear throughout the duration of the play, because of several small details. When the two were greeted by people, they often got their names confused. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Communication, Language, And Speech Skills Mrs. Moore has the children do group activities, partner activities, and use their words when something goes wrong, which are all ways to help develop communication, language, and speech skills. Parents can continue to help these skills develop at home by talking to their children, teaching them new words, and having them use their own words to ask for something. Overall, Addison s communication, language, and speech skills are almost where they need to be and parents need to focus on her using her words when something goes wrong and having her use more complete sentences. Cognitive development is the process of developing intelligence, problem solving skills, and advanced thought. Addison has showed that she is in the proper state of cognitive development for her age. On two occasions she has shown she can name and identify eight colors. On April 5, during testing, she identified a blue rectangle, purple oval, pink triangle, green heart and red circle. On May 3, at playdough during the flower unit, she identified, when asked what color they were, a yellow stone, a blue stone, a green stone, an orange stone, pink playdough, and purple playdough. She has also shown that she can match at least five shapes. On April 5, during testing, she identified a blue rectangle, purple oval, pink triangle, green heart and red circle. She has also shown that she can name a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, and heart. On March 3, she identified the oval she needed to cut out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Textbooks Vs Textbooks In Textbooks Portable technology such as iPads and tablets in the classroom have become such a norm in today s society, and students and parents are believing that this is a good thing. Are they really considering all of the effects of technology and how often it is being used? What is it doing to the education in schools? Chou et al. states that as of 2012, there were over 2000 school districts that have adopted different types of electronical devices and this amount is growing rapidly (11). According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, that is about 11,000 schools as of 2000. If this trend continues, almost all schools will have switched to using technology such as iPads and tablets in the classroom. Teachers and administrators believe that this technology increase has helped students learn more effectively, and more importantly, they believe that it is more cost effective than staying with the hard copy textbooks. Teachers in K 12 schools should continue to use traditional textbooks instead of replacing them with tablets because of the student s ability to retain more information, have a lesser chance of being distracted, and the cost effectiveness of staying with textbooks. One important reason to stay with traditional textbooks is that students retain information more effectively when they read from print rather than reading from a screen. • 6. Connecting with Nature in Rip Van Winkle, Thanatopsis, and... Romanticism is the involvement of emotion, fantasy, and intuition in a story. It happens to be the opposite of rationalism which involves logic, reason, and rationality in a story. There happens to be five romantic elements to choose from. They include: dissatisfaction with city life, desire to connect with nature, concern of individualism, nostalgia for the past, and supernatural interest. Of the six stories we could choose from all of them have some part of romanticism in them in one way or another. I chose to express a desire to connect with nature in Rip Van Winkle , Thanatopsis , and Walden. Rip Van Winkle desires to leave his nagging wife, driving him into the woods revealing a gorgeous, woodland landscape and a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rip Van Winkle describes multiple images that make it a story with a deep desire to connect with nature. In the poem Thanatopsis the desire to connect with nature is expressed throughout. Unlike Rip Van Winkle, Thanatopsis has a very deep meaning within it, not just a whimsical story. The poem explains that we as humans should embrace death and know that we are a part of the ever cycling earth. We have a bigger purpose. William Cullen Bryant personified nature in his poem. He made nature woman like by calling nature her and she. To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion with her visible forms, she speaks a various language... (171) He also expressed this beautiful simplicity and vulnerability to nature and man. The hills rock ribbed and ancient as the sun, the vales stretching in pensive quietness between; the venerable woods rivers that move in majesty, and the complaining brooks that make the meadows green... (171) This poem seems to connect with nature in a different way. It s almost like it embodies nature along with human to create a smooth transition or meld of the two, and I think that is what creates the desire to connect with nature for the poem. Walden expresses the desire to connect with nature differently then Rip Van Winkle , and Thanatopsis. It may not have the whimsical story or a spiritually deeper meaning, ... • 7. Difference Between English Civil Law And Common Law English Common Law English Common Law and Civil Law are very much a different way that countries apply the law. One of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which means that that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar case. Because Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge role in making the Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future. Precedents are kept up to date through the years and are historically documented in collections of case law. The verdict in cases that follow the common law is decided by the jury which is a group of normal people that have no legal background that listens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the there are no significant facts that are completely different the judge would be forced to use the precedent set by earlier case. To show how distinguishing works there are two cases that are commonly used. These common cases are Merritt v Merritt (1970) and Balfour v Balfour (1919) . In both of the cases, the defendant is the husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract. In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go with him. The husband orally agreed to send money to the wife while he was away working. When the relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get the contract enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no intention to create legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made between husband and wife and not a legal one. In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status of the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would give money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be changed to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. The claim succeeded, even though this agreement was written down and signed by both parties, the husband rejected to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Fluorescent Tagged Protein Research Paper Essay 47: Fluorescent Tagged Proteins Proteins tagged with fluorescent markers are extremely versatile tools in cell and molecular biology research. A fluorescent marker is, as the name suggests, a molecule that emits light of a particular wavelength following exposure to a photons of a shorter wavelength, for example a laser beam. If a fluorescent marker is a reasonable size and chemically stable enough to be attached to a protein, it is potentially useful to molecular biologists. In many cases, the proteins in question are monoclonal antibodies generated against a particular target of interest such as a cell surface receptor, a cytoskeletal protein, or a cellular organelle. In some cases, a fluorescent label is used to track the fate of a particular protein as it is processed in the ER and Golgi complex, transported along microtubules, or secreted from the cell altogether. In still other cases, two or more fluorescently tagged proteins are introduced into the same cell to see whether they localize in the same or separate compartments or organelles. ... • 9. Estella Alternate Ending Unrequited love is love that is not reciprocated. It is unlikely that the person being loved will ever return the love even if a large amount of time has passed. In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Pip falls in love with Estella the first time he meets her, but she does not love Pip back. Throughout Pip s life, he thinks about how beautiful Estella is and how she was meant for him. The novel ends with an original ending, where Pip finds out how Estella has remarried so he remains single, and a revised ending, which suggests that Pip and Estella might have a relationship together. The original ending is more fitting since it fits with the novel s expectation of the ending which is that Pip and Estella should not possibly be in a romantic relationship, while the revised ending doesn t fit with the expectations. • 10. 1984 And Fahrenheit 451 In the texts, 1984, by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the concepts of totalitarianism and censorship are addressed in various ways. Both texts are of dystopian fiction, set in post nuclear war nations, although they are somewhat of a different nature. The concepts of totalitarianism and censorship are explored throughout the texts by addressing the issue of knowledge is power , the use and abuse of technology and the desensitising of society. Although these are mentioned in both 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, they are different in the way they are approached by each totalitarian government, as the government in 1984 is much more severe in the way each of these issues are dealt with in the text. Orwell and Bradbury address ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both authors emphasise the message that knowledge is power in order to warn modern society of the damage that can be done by embracing totalitarianism regimes. Orwell is much stronger in portraying it, which is displayed through the party slogan who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past . Bradbury acknowledges this by removing literature, although people are still free to think. Orwell takes it further by making readers question, what knowledge can be trusted? If all thought is removed, eventually, nobody will be able to have power because if the knowledge is unknown to be true, it cannot be used to form a common argument against the government. In 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, the governments utilise technology to abuse the citizens rights to privacy as well as advertise political propaganda. In both texts, television plays an integral part of the use of technology. In Bradbury s text, a 24/7 TV program includes the audience in order to provide the impression they are an important part of society, whereas in Orwell s text, the telescreens are not only used for propaganda, but also to constantly monitor Oceania s citizens. This is evident when Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing. In Fahrenheit 451, the TV program ... • 12. Difference Between Working Class And Poor Mothers For working class and poor mothers, intensive mothering and consumerism are still equally linked to their view of themselves as good mothers. The only difference between working class and poor mothers versus middle and upper class women is that the working class/poor have to work harder to attain the good motherstatus. According to Takseva (2014), Children can be used as an object of display conferring the desired social status(p.224) and, Membership in a group is often defined through the purchasing of goods and services (p.225). Therefore, mothers who do not present their children in the best clothes or toys are seen as bad mothers, so mothers of the lower classes have to work harder to ascribe their children the same status as the children in upper classes. Many working class mothers experience guilt that due to the lack of financial resources they are not being good mothers because they cannot provide their children with the same life chances that they would if they had more money (Takseva, 2014, p.227). These mothers find alternative strategies to define themselves as good mothers such as knowing where and when to shop for bargains, and actively engaging their children into understanding what products can/cannot be purchased so that they have realistic expectations (Takseva, 2014, p.227). However, on the other extreme intensive mothering is so prevalent in today s society that, Parents will go against their better judgment about budgets, in the case of ... Discovering The Underlying Causes Of High Poverty Rates Discovering the Underlying Causes of High Poverty Rates in Detroit, Michigan Detroit, Michigan is known as the wasteland city where every street corner has homeless people, condemned buildings, violence, drug deals, boarded homes, and poverty. Poverty in this city is at an understandably high rate with all the negative aspects stacking up against it. In 2003 alone, a third of the population of Detroit was living under the federal poverty line (Grengs, 2007, p.348). Detroit was not always this mess of a city it is now, but when what is referred to as the disaster of Detroit happened, no one lifted a finger to help. Instead, people accepted the fact that Detroit was what it was. Many Americans, are unconcerned. . . . Eight out of ten, more than anywhere else, believe that though you may start poor, if you work hard, you can make pots of money. It is a central part of the American dream (Herron, 2007, p.667 668). Although Detroit, Michigan has one of the highest poverty rates in America, it is not entirely because drugs, money, and violence, but rather through a constant lack of support this city receives. This paper examines high poverty levels in Detroit, Michigan and the underlying causes. The abandonment of Detroit by its own residence and the government led directly to its downfall. Today Detroit is America s forgotten city. Or at least forgetting is what most Americans hope will happen to Detroit and all it stands for, an uncanny place that only looks like a city ... • 15. Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity (Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss how ideological biases within the Police and to a certain extent the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair. Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, when those people continue to stay strong and fight, they accomplish amazing things and learn more than they could have ever imagined. Truth is, everybody will face trials in life, but it s how people react to them that makes a difference. In the article, Wise Words From Wise Leaders, by Kenyon Craig, it says, We all face adversity at some point in our lives. Our success lies in how we handle it. Many of us allow challenges to defeat us. What I say to you is this: accept your challenge head on. If you focus on developing into a stronger and wiser individual, you will succeed not in spite of, but because of the very challenges you face. The most successful people in life don t get that way from having it easy in life. When a person accepts a challenge and learns from their mistakes and hardships that is when they are able to rise above the rest. Why? Because they understand concepts that others couldn t even begin to grasp. They know the importance of life and just how drastically it can change. They appreciate what they have and cherish the little things in life. Law * In this case, we have to look at the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) to determine who was negligent and in specific, we use s 5B(1), s 5B(2) and s 5R of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW); s 5B(1) for the reasonable foreseeability test, s 5B(2) for determining if the standard of reasonable care has been breached and s 5R for contributory negligence. * Where both the parties seem to have been negligent, it is important to determine who is more at fault and for this purpose we need to use the but for test as in the case of Cork v Kirby Maclean [1952] 2 ALL ER 402. * The application of s 5R of the Civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * We need to look at s 5R of Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) which states that the plaintiff should take reasonable care to avoid harm to themselves. Application The test of reasonable foreseeability can be seen from the case Ultramares Corp v Touche, Niven Co 174 NE 441 (1931), in which the defendants were negligent while auditing a company. The said company then went on to borrow money on the basis that its accounts were correct. The lender upon learning that the accounts were wrong filed a suit against the company and the auditor and the court had to decide who was liable to the lender. The court decided that the defendant was not liable as any person who read the report can then file a complaint against him leading to unlimited liability. Peter should have foreseen that his negligent action would cause a traffic jam affecting the other road users. Just as in this case, Peter is not responsible for Sam s loss as anyone stuck in the traffic jam and affected by the traffic jam could then file suit against Peter and find him responsible to an unlimited number of liabilities. In the Perre v Apand (1999) 198 CLR 180 case, the defended sprayed harmful chemicals carelessly on one farm and the crops on that and the adjacent farms were destroyed by this. Player Arrests takes a strongly analytical look at N.F.L. player s arrest records. Using a database from USA Today, Irwin forms that data into easy to process statistics and graphs. He then goes on to make theories to explain correlations we find in this data. The writer leans heavily on the use of statistics, but also uses Appeal to the Opposition, and Concrete Examples to put together this piece. The writer makes excellent use of statistics and graphs numerous times throughout the article. One N.F.L. player in 40 is arrested in a given year. (Irwin 181) Neil Irwin starts off in his body paragraphs by giving the reader a sense of scale upon which the rest of the essay is built. His statistics also have a strong credibility to them, since they come from USA Today a well known and respected newspaper. Some 28 percent of the arrests in the database were for driving under the influence, with 202 incidents. Other frequent categories of charges include assault and battery (88 cases) and drug related offenses (82). (Irwin 182) Here the writer also covers the amount of players arrested by crime, placing strong emphasis on the number of driving while intoxicated charges. In doing this, he breaks it down in a way which shows not all of these arrest are as serious as others. The number of arrests by team range from a low of 11 (tie between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conclusion In this study, a polymer inclusion membrane was prepared and succevally applied for the removal of citric acid from synthetic wastewater. The mixture of CTA and CA was found to be the optimum base polymer for quantitative transport of citric acid. Moreover, the nature of carrier especially alkyl chain length, stirring rate, and pH of feed phase are also important factors affecting the increased rate of citric acid transport. Hence, from results obtained it can be seen that the investigated calix[4]resorcinarene are effective extractants for citric acid and that their extraction abilities depend on the alkyl chain length of the substituent in the macrocycle. Choosing the appropriate length of alkyl chain, very selective system can be designed. The excellent efficiency for the citric acid transport by the proposed PIM system reveals its potential application for the selective removal, concentration and purification of citric acid from different media. • 33. Banning Written Texts Should Not Baned Books Until recently, the trend of banning thousands of time honored books was routinely taking place in public libraries and schools across the country. Presently, many censored books are prevailing on library shelves and remaining in the hands of students. Without a doubt, banning a book entirely deprives people of being able to think differently and learn about new topics. However, censoring books is an exceptional way to allow those who are easily offended to read a written work without raising an eyebrow. A person will still comprehend the idea of a censored text, while not becoming insulted by it. Written texts should not be banned because people should be able to choose for themselves what they wish to read, but written texts should be censored for people who are sensitive and feel a text is too provocative or offensive for them. Banning a written text is wrong and unacceptable for numerous reasons. Banning a text limits people s point of view and keeps them in their comfort zone; people are able to choose for themselves what they want to read. Limiting society s point of view is a crime; people will forever be narrow minded and unable to form their own opinions, if this continues. The news media has access to television broadcasting and has people to go find stories to broadcast. However, as time has progressed, the news media has become more and more opinionated. Consequently, the bias of the news media in their reporting s has tainted the opinions of the American people. By creating a strict set of laws pertaining to the reporting of news, bias within reports will have to decrease; causing a less opinionated audience, people feeling better about themselves and humanity, and the United Statesgrowth as a stronger country. The news media in today s world is far too opinionated. Her passive way towards her family and bulling, led her to believe she was ugly (what her mother said about her the minute she was born) and the only way to change her life was to change her eye color blue, like all the happy white girls had it. Concept Analysis Of Pain And Pain Concept Analysis of Pain The most common reason that people seek medical care is pain, and pain is the leading cause of disability (Peterson Bredow, 2013, p. 51; National Institute of Health, 2010). Pain is such an important topic in healthcare that the United States congress identified 2000 to 2010 as the Decade of PainControl and Research (Brunner L. S., et al., 2010, p. 231). Unfortunatelly, patients are reporting a small increase in satisfaction with the pain management while in the hospital (Bernhofer, 2011). Pain assessment and treatment can be complex since nurses do not have a tool to quantify it. Pain is considered the fifth vital sign, however, we do not have numbers to guide our interventions. Pain is a subjective expirience that cannot be shared easily. Since nurses spend more time with patients in pain than any other healthcare provider, nurses must have a clear understanding of the concept of pain (Brunner, et al., 2010). Concept analysis main objective is to clarify ideas, to enhance critical thinking, and to promote communication (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). This paper will examine the concept of pain using Wilson s Steps of Concept Analysis (Rodgers Knafl, 2000). Explain. Performing vigorous exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase of CO2 in the reaction. • 46. Cutting Physical Education Classes As a child in elementary school, I always looked forward to one class and the was physical education. Being a little child, full of energy, I always wanted to run around and play a game of some sort. School districts are starting to cut these classes to make more time for the core classes, which are English, social studies, and math. One third of students under the age of 17 are overweight, and 1/6 of the students, that are overweight are obese (Costanza par. 6). Cutting physical educationclasses are a big reason to blame for this. Many kid are not getting their recommended 60 minutes of physical activity in a day. • 47. Essay about Change In The Things They Carried Change In The Things They Carried a war novel by Tim O Brien, we are told many short stories compiled to make a whole. I want to emphasis on the importance of the chapter Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong . In this chapter we are introduced to the character Mary Anne. She shows the changing power of Vietnam, that a sweet innocent young girl can come into this land and be forever consumed by her surroundings. The speaker show us this through character action, character description, dialogue and metaphor; this enhances the literary work by showing us that the soldiers will always be a part of Vietnam no matter how hard they try to get away from it. Mary Anne was a young sweet innocent girl unaffected by the war at first. The speaker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... True, this may have also happened even if she didn t go over seas. Having Fossie gone for a long period of time may have sparked her curiosity. Her innocence was soon lost in the war. Mary Anne s curiosity provoked her change. You see this from the way she is described. If it wasn t for her avid nature to learn more about her surroundings she may have stayed the same. She wanted to know everything about Vietnam, she didn t just want to sit back and watch. She wanted to be in the action. Though she was young, Rat said Mary Anne Bell was no timid child. She was curious about thingsВ…asking questionsВ…. listen quietly while someone would fill her in. She had a good quick mind. (95) She was enthralled by her surroundings she wanted to do and know everything, she was in a new place ready and willing to learn unlike the soldiers who were there only because they had too. The speaker shows us this in this quote. They carried the soldiers greatest fear, which was the fear of blushingВ…it was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positiveВ…they kept humping. They did not submit to the obvious alternative to fall. (21) This quote is to inform the reader that the only reason a solider would go to war and to stay there is from the fear of blushing That they weren t there by choice. The term humping is used. It is there way of dealing with the war. They just have to keep on В‘humping and everything would be all right. It was there way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Memi And Sabu Comparison Sculpture is a fascinating form of art because it documents the human experience going far back before languages were developed to convey meaning. In the case of the Egyptian statute of Memi and Sabu as well as Gudea from ancient Mesopotamia each culture was advanced enough to use hieroglyphic scripture and yet they still cultivated these careful representations of important people from the time. Although they come from different corners of the globe they have many similarities, perhaps even more in common than they have different. As we explore both statues the principles of design, including line, texture, shape and technique make it apparent how intelligent these civilizations were and how much care and pride went into them. Memi and Sabu hail from ancient Egypt, well known for its prized representations of kings and gods as well as elaborate tombs. They were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Memi and Sabu clearly have an intimate relationship and unlike Gudea, great detail has gone into shaping the contours and details of their bodies. One can see the feminine slope of Sabu s torso making her much more delicate and small in comparison to her partner. We can see the muscular detail of Memi s arms, as well as his legs and even his knobby knees. The couple s value is much lighter compared to Gudea giving the impression that the sculpture carries a lighter mass overall. There is also a much greater sense of space and depth between the two. Memi and Sabu look almost as if they could come to life and walk right off the slab they were carved, but Gudea feels more cemented. He is formed from much darker stone and is fully clothed, giving him a sense of weight and importance. His texture is different too, pitted and much shallower. Gudea s pose is much more thoughtful, his hands clasped, his shoulders squared and together these elements echo the inscriptions of his great work as a religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Water Fashion Essay Water Fashion In this day and age, the metaphorical pastor of American culture no longer preaches patience. This is due, in part, to our rapid economic development, boosting the U.S. into the fifth stage of Rostow s model for economic development; the Age of Mass Consumption (this model entails that a country begins in poverty, introduces varying levels of industry, becomes economically self sufficient, and, in the final stage, outsources all industry to developing countries). The Age of Mass Consumption is just as deadly as it sounds, incurring insatiable demand for cheap labor, and therefore a wasteful popular mindset. And so ensues consumerism, the love child of social media and cheap manufacturing. Consumerism bears it s own dangerous children, including but not limited to genetically modified organisms, pesticides, Costco, smartphones, wireless Internet, Netflix, and fast fashion. The vast majority of Americans will recognize the aforementioned phenomenon of pop culture, except perhaps fast fashion . For those unfamiliar with this phrase, used by fashion retailers, refers to clothing that is designed to emulate current trends, but cost significantly less. However, the four dollar t shirt you buy at H M or Calvin Klein has a global cost that far exceeds four dollars. Like the meaning of... • 50. The Consequences Of Corporal Punishment In Public Schools Disciplining a child can become a tedious task for parents and tutors. As a result, they believe that punishment is the most optimal way to eliminate a misbehavior. Paddling, spanking, and hitting are a small group of the harsh disciplinary practices used by adults. Such practices of physical punishment are currently allowed in public schools in the United States. Many people argue that a reasonable physical punishment on the children leads them to understand the consequences of misbehaving. However, the word reasonable is an ambiguous term utilized to diminish the meaning of such type of violence. Corporal punishmentcan be a momentarily disciplinary practice, which in the long term, severely, impacts the children. Researchers have said that children exposed to more corporal punishment tend to suffer certain psychological disturbances. Generally, they are more likely to develop mental health problems, low self esteem, and antisocial behavior. Such issues make them become vulnerable and depressive leading them in the long term to drugs or alcohol abuse. Once the children reach their adulthood, they become extremely aggressive and the parent child relationship gets substantially damaged. In the United states a large number of people believe that such disciplinary practice is no longer present in our public schools system. According to a letter recently written by John B. King Jr., U.S. Secretary of Education, twenty two states still allow corporal punishment in school: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Balcony Scnece in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet The balcony scene in and Romeo and Juliet is the most iconic and recognised scene, because it represents young love, and symbolises the power of youth, as Romeo and Juliet try to put right the mistakes of their elders. The scene shows how their love over comes their difficulties. Romeo wooing Juliet at the balcony is a ideal romantic situation, as it is still relevant today. Even though both their families are at war, it does not mean that, that should get in the way of their love. The 16th century scene is still relevant today as it was then. The Romeo and Juliet situation n could be created by divided society e.g. people from opposite sides of a war, falling in love, for example Northern Ireland or Israel. There is a sense of physical longing between the characters in the scene. Romeo and Juliet long for each other, there is a sexual tension running through the scene. This shown in their vows to each other: such as when Romeo asks he: What shall I swear by? And she replies: Do not swear at all; or, if though wilt, swear by thy gracious self. Swearing by yourself was meant Juliet trusted Romeo very much. The vow guaranteed that they would both see each other again. Romeo s observation: O that I were a glove upon that Hand, That I might touch that cheek, shows Romeo s physical longing for Juliet. And his demand at the end of the scene: O, wilt though leave me so unsatisfied? followed by her reply: What satisfaction canst though have to night?
