Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Analysis
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the story of a Lioness
During the dawn of the new century, a young black woman taps on her microphone, surrounded by
everything from the romantic twang of a harp to the rustic beat of the timpani drum. Her hair twisted
in locks, envelopes her face the studio lights streaming on her face make her look like a lion,
courageous and proud of herself, her ideals and her vision. This isn t even the beginning. Lauryn Hill s
story starts in a township named after the Prince of Orange, in New Jersey where she grew up
listening to Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. As a freshman in
high school Hill (now going by L. Boogie) started Tranzlator Crew with Pras Michel. Later, Wyclef
Jean replaced one of their original female singers and they renamed their band to the Fugees (inspired
by the word refugee an offensive term for Haitian Americans) and focused mostly on genre bending in
reggae, rock and soul.
During the early Fugees days Jean and Hill started dating. However, there was always a healthy
competition between Jean and Hill, with both trying to outdo the other vocally and professionally.
Ultimately, they continued their relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

programmer Vada, lyricist Kilo, pianist Tejumold and guitarist Johari). Even though her record label
wanted her to settle the lawsuit, she felt settling would ve been an admission of guilt and she was very
concerned about credit because that s what eluded her from past success [with the Fugees]. Eventually,

Trump s Executive Order On Immigration
On January 27, 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that suspended entry of all refugees
into the United States for one hundred and twenty days. The order obstructed Syrian refugees for an
unspecific time and blocked entry into the United States for ninety days for citizens of seven Muslim
countries, such as: Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Yemen. This order also banned green
card holder from these seven countries. Hans von Spakovsky has written many different articles on the
subject of immigration, civil rights, civil justice, and the rule of law and government reform. The

if he believes it would be detrimental to the interests of the United States. And he can do so for such
period as he shall deem necessary. This statement contrasts with the article, Trump s Immigration Ban
Is Illegal by David J. Brier, which states that The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 stands in
the way of Trump s ban being legal and constitutional. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
was enacted in 1968, which bans all discrimination against immigrants on the basis of national origin,
replacing the old prejudicial system and giving each country an equal shot at the quotas. Briar states

Superman As A Prime Pop Culture Caricature Of The American...
Superman is one of the most famous fictional characters in the world, and is a prime Pop Culture
caricature of the American Identity. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish
immigrant descendants, in the year 1933, and would see his comic book debut in 1938. While the
exact reason for his creation is debatable, it is clear that Superman represents many of the American
Ideals involving Individuality as well as Unity. Superman s origin follows the alien refugee s landing
in a rural town in Kansas, after having his homeplanet destroyed, eventually being accepted by the
humble American farmers as one of their own. Superman would eventually leave his hometown to go
to the city of Metropolis where he would lead a double life, one as mild mannered Clark Kent, and the
other being of the indestructible Superman. Clear trends of unity can be seen in his origin, as from the
very start Superman is a member of a different culture, and is accepted into the American family,
similarly to the image many immigrants were told regarding the land of opportunity. The symbolism
doesn t stop there, however, as Superman himself would show signs of what it would mean to be an
American. He is strong, determined, morally straight, and for a good portion of his early adaptations,
used his gifts to better society, helping those who need help, and saving those who need saving. Most
of all, however, his alter ego represented the everyday man who works at his job with nothing more

How Is Oedipus A Tragic Hero
Creative Title Aristotle stated that a man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his own
downfall, when describing a tragic hero. Throughout history, there have been many literary tragic
heroes: Hamlet from Shakespeare s Hamlet, Romeo from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, and even
Jay Gatsby from F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. Often times, when discussing tragic heroes,
the Theban tragedy of Oedipus Rex and his family is brought up. The tragic hero, Oedipus Rex was
the heir to the throne of Thebes who was prophecized to kill his father and marry his mother. Due to
this, he was abandoned at birth by his birth parents and adopted. Believing this prophecy would cause
him to kill his adoptive parents, Oedipus flees his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
put quote here about antigone not caring who she is leaving behind. Creon has a similar selfish pride
that stems from his role of King and his stubborn mindset. Creon s pride was so strong that he could
not even acknowledge the fact that he could possibly be wrong, therefore he never listened to anyone.
INSERT QUOTE When Tiresias warned Creon of the horrors to come if he did not let Antigone bury
Polynices, put quote here. Both Antigone and Creon are members of the royal family of Thebes.
Neither Antigone or Creon, nor any other person in history, is perfectly virtuous or perfectly
villainous. No one person is perfectly anything, save the way certain religions view their gods and
idols. To be virtuous means to have or show high moral standards according to the Merriam Webster
Dictionary, and to be villainous means to be an evil or depraved character. It seems that Creon did not
believe he was being a villain for not letting Antigone bury her brother, he believed that he was
asserting his authority upon the people of Thebes. INSERT QUOTE Creon s intent was not to be evil
or morally corrupt when he disallowed the burial of Polynices or when he locks Antigone away in
prison. Creon is not perfectly virtuous either. Creon, whether or not he meant to harm or benefit
anyone, locked away his niece and future daughter in law, caused at least three

Examples Of Informal Letter To Javaria And Vania
Mike, Below is my proposed email. I am assuming that it will come from you, but I am happy to send
it to Javaria and Vania if you wish. Please let me know if you want any additional information.
Thanks, Jim Hello Javaria and Vania, The Office of the Inspector General requested that we advise it
by Monday if we would agree to produce Danielle Hill for an informal interview. The interview would
not be recorded and Ms. Hill would not be placed under oath. Moreover, our office and a
representative from United, if desired, would represent her during the proceeding. The interview
would take place at our office on a date convenient to all the participants, although the OIG would like
to proceed as soon as possible. If the parties agree to the interview, we recommend that we schedule a

However, in the event the OIG issues a report upon its completion of its investigation, a copy of the
summary, with all contact information redacted, would be provided to the Mayor s Office, Corporation
Counsel, and the Department of Aviation. With regard to the subpoenas, the OIG is currently not
pursuing the materials and information requested therein. Unfortunately, it would not agree to
withdraw the subpoenas at this time, but it is open to discussing the topic after Ms. Hill s interview.
The OIG also indicated that it might wish to speak with Jennifer Kirkendahl, but again, it will not
make that decision until after talking with Ms. Hill. We recommend that United agree to produce Ms.
Hill for an informal interview under the terms set out above. We believe such an agreement will
demonstrate United s willingness to cooperate and will assist in persuading the OIG to withdraw its

Moral Education and Emotional Lying Essay
Moral Education and Emotional Lying
There is a long tradition, fathered by Aristotle and recurring like some recessive gene in recent virtue
theorists, that holds that the emotions, like acts, must be trained . Consider the following:
[In Beckett s portrayal,] Emotions are not feelings that well up in some natural and untutored way
from our natural selves, that they are, in fact, not personal or natural at all, that they are, instead,
contrivances, social constructs. We learn how to feel, and we learn our emotional repertoire. We learn
emotions in the same way that we learn our beliefs from our society. (Nussbaum 1990, p287)
Emotions, in Aristotle s view, are not always correct, any more than beliefs or actions are ... Show

The problem arises, however, when we consider two agents: Agent X acts in accordance with social
demands, or, does not act (also in accordance with social demands) while considering this merely a
means to ensure such social harmony as he can get. Agent Y exhibits or does not exhibit emotions also
in accordance with social demands, while considering this also merely a means to ensure social
harmony. Neither Agent X nor Agent Y believe in what they are doing, in any sense deeper than the
wish to conform to reasonable social demands.
We can portray this situation as follows:
Agent CA conforms with respect to acting.
Agent CE conforms with respect to emoting .
Agent BA believes in his acts.
Agent BE believes in his emotions
Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or
worse?
Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely hurled
against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Even Williams (1973, p224) states that simulating emotions one does
not feel could be misleading, even deceitful .
Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he is a
misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he knows
what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,

Similarities Between Egypt And Babylon
The Kingdoms of Egypt and Babylon are arguably two of the most recognized and taught about
kingdoms of the ancient world. Although, both kingdoms played major roles in biblical times and are
written about extensively in the bible, this paper does not use the bible as part of the research process,
simply due to the fact that outside of the religion of Christianity, the bible is thought of as an historical
book filled with fables and mythology. The research reflected in this paper shows the similarities of
the Egyptians and Babylonians in religious practices, social strata, and economies. The economies of
both Egypt and Babylon are similar in that both kingdoms sit on the bank of a mighty river. There are
also a great many similarities in religion, both kingdoms built temples, worshiped mythical gods, and
offered sacrifices to the gods. The social structure of Egypt and Babylon are nearly identical, being
comprised of a pharaoh or king, priest, government officials, the common populace, and ... Show

fact that Egypt has been a part of the world stage since nearly the beginning of man and the changes
that each ruler would make as they ascended to the throne, would be an exercise in futility. The

Who Is Dionysus In The Bacchae
Euripides uses the god Dionysus in The Bacchae in order to emphasize that humans need to embrace
irrational behavior in their day to day lives. In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and ordered
society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to simply live
to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a result of their
differences, Dionysus aims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by destroying their
society and recreating it in his image. Dionysus and Theban society are complete opposites. Dionysus
is considered to be the god of wine and merriment. He and his followers live life to the fullest,
epitomizing the idea of carpe diem and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite Dionysus repeatedly trying to convince King Pentheus to see logic, the constant rebuffing at
every turn eventually leads to him giving up reconciliation and condemning the king to death. As soon
as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no more talking
to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus has repressed the
irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his weapons to kill Dionysus
and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected what Dionysus has had to say
and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to become vengeful and consequently
starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus
had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning, for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a
mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki 151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do
anything rash, because there was no chance that he could defeat a god in battle. However, due to the
fact that Pentheus has made the decision to raise his sword against the Bacchante, he has exhausted
the patience of Dionysus and has therefore set himself up for his

Integrity In Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Scientific Integrity in Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: Compare and Contrast Science plays
an integral role in the development and findings of many great things that we can benefit from.
Integrity along with a specific set of moral standards must always be followed in order to ensure the
end result enables a healthy environment for all whom wish to benefit from such studies. Integrity
must always play and be the most essential key role in scientific research. In Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein (1831) and Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) one is able
to conclude that integrity must be maintained while conducting scientific research as a lack of can
result in the creation of monsters. In Frankenstein, there are endless possibilities in regards to science.
Shelley is able to relay a message of integrity and moral importance through creation and destruction.
Dr. Frankenstein had little to no regard for integrity while conducting his experiment. He allowed his
desires to influence and ultimately create a monster in his basement, and while doing so he did not
consider nor ask for input from his fellow colleagues. Victor Frankenstein s loss in the battle between
nature and science foreshadows destruction for Walton, as he too foresees he is nearing his journey. Its

Service Quality Is An Antecedent Of Perceived Value Essay
Service quality is an antecedent of perceived value, and it will cause a significant influence on
perceived value (Bojanic, 1996; Oh, 1999; Sweeney et al., 1999). Ostrom Iacobucci (1995) found that
price, level of quality, friendliness of service personnel, and the degree of customization of the service
are important factors to customer value perceptions. Although customer perceived value has long been
recognized in marketing research as an important concept in influencing preference, satisfaction,
loyalty, and other important outcomes (Cronin et al., 2000), most studies have examined customer
value in the context of offline rather than online customer behavior (Overby Lee, 2006). Although
customer perceived value in the online shopping environment is of crucial importance, previous
studies have neglected that variable (Chang et al., 2005). In an online environment, customers can find
alternatives easily; therefore building long term relationships presents a more difficult challenge for E
commerce companies (Chang Wang, 2011). Gummerus (2010) investigated the impact of three
resource inputs (i.e., service content, service process, and service configurations) on the perceptions of
value of a Finnish health care website. The results reveal that the service content of the discussion
groups had the strongest relationship with customer value, followed by article content and database
content. As to service process security, usability, and responsiveness were all

Sumerian Medicine
Our ancestors may have endured painful lives before the proper art of medicine, but it was because of
that agony which inspired many to pursue diverse ways of healing. Although we may never know the
true identity of the first healer, we will always remember the framework they laid out for medical
ideas we use today. From every medical practice back then, surgery was the first branch practiced
successfully. The style they used to perform surgery in ancient times was extremely similar to the
procedures we use today. Accordingly, these similarities include the patient being laid down, using an

Race in Amerca
Race, simple external differences linked to other complex internal differences, has historically created
issues in American society. Race and racial inequalities are one of the most vital issues confronting
contemporary U.S. society, explains Sociologist Ronald Takaki. In the past race has had both
biological and social implications across the country.
However, the video Race: The Power of Illusion presents significant evidence refuting the biological
theories of race. Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory instructor Scott Bronson and several high school
students from different ethnicities conducted personal genetic research exploring biological race
theory. Students typed their blood, compared skin tones and took DNA samples. After sending the
samples to a genetics lab, Bronson asked students whom they might expect to be more genetically
similar to in the workshop. The consensus of the students was that they would each be genetically
comparable to others in the group with similar physical attributes.
Noah, a white male expected to be similar to another white male in the group and Mr. Bronson. Two
other students, a male and female of African descent, believed they would similar despite their gender
differences. When the lab work came back, Mr. Bronson and the students evaluated the results and the
students were quite surprised. They discovered those students of African descent had more genetic
differences than the rest of the group combined. Supporting the student s findings

Jean Piaget s Influence On Psychology
Who is Jean Piaget, and impact has he made on psychology? According to Les Smith, Piaget was born
in Switzerland on August 9, 1896. Piaget was an extremely brilliant child, and he excelled at his
studies. By age 11, he wrote a short paper on an albino sparrow. Many people believe that this paper
ignited his scientific career. Once he graduated high school, he attended the University of Neuchatel.
Piaget received a Ph.D. in natural sciences. He was extremely interested in the development of
knowledge, so he worked with Alred Binet and De Simon to do experimental studies on the growing
mind. Piaget eventually married Valentine Chatenay and had three children. His children are
Jacqueline, Lucieene, and Laurent. Piaget continued his study on intellectual development by studying
his own children. Les Smith describes Piaget s scientific conclusion as the growth of knowledge is a
progressive construction of logically embedded structures superseding one another by a process of
inclusion of lower less powerful ones up to adulthood. Therefore, a children s logic and modes of
thinking are initially entirely different from those of adults. As a result of Piaget s experiments he
made Piaget s Stages of Development. These stages represent the normal intellectual development that
occurs during infancy to adulthood. The stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational,
and formal operational. To understand Piaget s stages a person must first understand the idea of

My Chinese Immigrant Parents
My international background has shaped who I am today because of the influence of my Chinese
immigrant parents. My parents never had an easy life. My parents, who lived in poverty in China,
immigrated to the United States hoping for a better life and to pursue the American Dream. They
immigrated to the Unites States with no money and no knowledge of the English language. The
language barrier alone created a mass obstacle for their early life in America. My dad had once told
me that at the age of 13 he was already cooking for his entire family while working to provide
financial support for his parents and siblings. Despite my parent s challenges, they were still able to

family financially. On weekends and majority of the weekdays, I spend my time aiding my parents
while juggling numerous amounts of school work. Senior year proved to be the hardest, with five
advancement placement classes that I take and while still helping out at the restaurant. Such
environment that I was raised in, has shaped me to become a disciplined and responsible individual.
Having been raised by my parents who are Chinese, I have had the honor of learning several cultural
aspects of my heritage and becoming bilingual in mandarin and English. I learned to celebrate Chinese
holidays, learned about my unique culture, and even attended Chinese school for a few years. My
Chinese heritage will always be part of who I am and has shaped me to be who I am today.
Although my life is not like those of a typical teenager s, I am and will be forever grateful for all that

disciplined individual, for providing me with the inspiration that I need when I fail at times, and most
importantly, for finding the courage to send me off to college even without the full financial ability to.

hot according to her filed complaint. Following this introduction section, the authors first provide
some background material as to societal norms concerning attractiveness, the existence of appearance
discrimination in society, especially regarding employment, and the presence of a certain preferring
the pretty norm, and consequently discrimination against less attractive people.
The next section of the paper is the legal environment, wherein the authors initially discuss the
fundamental employment law doctrine in the USA employment at will; and then the authors examine
important civil rights laws Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment
Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and show how these laws relate to
appearance discrimination in the narrow sense examined herein of attractiveness. In the analysis of
Title VII, the authors define and differentiate, a disparate treatment discrimination case from a
disparate impact one. The authors also explain two important defenses to Title VII civil rights lawsuits
the business necessity test and the bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) doctrine and

Types Of Magazine Clipping
One category of magazine clippings that I chose to include was famous people. The first clipping in
this category is Barack Obama. This picture is very important because he was our President and leader
of the U.S. for eight years in a row. The next magazine clipping is a U.S soldier. He is important
because he part of a group that fights and protects our country and our freedom. Another clipping is a
picture of Vic Beasley. He s important because he use to play for the Clemson Tigers a while back and
that was the team that won the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship game. The last
magazine clipping is an Alabama football player. This picture is meaningful because this team was in
the National Championship game against the Clemson Tigers and they lost by 4 points. Another
category of magazine clippings that I chose to include was objects. The first part of this category is
things that resemble more of the american freedom like a pocket knife, american flag, guns, peace
corp badge, and the Democratic donkey and Republican elephant. These objects are important because
they all have to do with american freedom whether it be protecting the country, having your own
beliefs, and just having peace. The next part of this category is things that people spend money on like
a cubs hat, iphone 5s, electronic cigarettes, and Christmas wrapping paper. These kinds of objects are
important because people spend a lot of money on all these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Questions On Common Types Of Contracts
Contract Types There are multiple factors that influence the type(s) of contract(s) utilized/selected
within a project. Some of these factors include: the level of uncertainty related to the scope of work,
the amount of project risk willing to be assumed, importance of meeting schedule milestone dates, and
the need for projected costs, among others (Darnall Preston, 2013). Whatever the driving factors are in
the selection process, once established, the type of contract selected can have a significant influence
on the decision making process related to the trade off of the triple constraints of cost, time, and
performance (Kerzner, 2013). This paper will briefly explain five common types of contracts focusing
primarily on how each type can affect project constraint trade off.
Common Types of Contracts There are two general types of contracts: fixed price and cost
reimbursable, with each main type having several variations (Darnall Preston, 2013). The two most
common variations of fixed price contracts are, firm fixed price and fixed price incentive fee (Kerzner,
2103). For cost reimbursable contracts, the three most common variations are, the cost plus incentive
fee, the cost plus award fee, and the cost plus fixed fee (Kerzner, 2013). Each type and variation
influences project trade off decisions relative to the triple constraints of cost, time, and performance
differently (Kerzner, 2013).
Firm Fixed Price (FFP) In a FFP contract, all costs are incorporated

Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles
Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution
Graham Jackson
LSAL 3133 301
Introduction Thesis Statement
I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict
management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in
determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style.
Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is
largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to
analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin
(2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more content

By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level of
concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of conflict
management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and the conflict
resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while having high
concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as obliging. Even
more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding style of conflict. In
this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above overview of the conflict
management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this study. Hopeck, Desrayaud,
Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that should be geared towards
having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The author outlined how solution
oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in comparison to the other styles of
conflict management The dominating style of conflict management is one that Cai and Fink (2002)
linked to frustration. In the authors explanation, it is natural for people to default to the dominating

Theme Of Sacrifice In Hamlet
As the great American journalist Norman Cousins once said, The tragedy of life is not death but what
we let die inside of us while we live. Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, it is a commonly
held belief that the play is a legendary tragedy because most of the characters fall to their deaths.
Indeed, when Hamlet is analysed, many characters throughout the play meet their own demise which
helps advance this theme. However, when a closer look is taken, it becomes apparent that the tragedy
of Hamlet truly lies in how the characters live their lives. Foremost, Claudius is a secondary character
whose selfish actions, contribute to the tragic downfall of his character. Ophelia s tragedy is, likewise,
a result of her passiveness and poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primarily, Ophelia accepts the social status placed on her by her father, Polonius, by obeying his
manipulative and controlling ways. For instance, when Polonius orders Ophelia to cut off all contact
with her lover Ophelia agrees to follow her father s orders saying, I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.141).
Ophelia s response can be seen as her acceptance towards the restrictions placed on her by her father.
In doing so, Ophelia displays that her weakness lies in her lack of assertiveness and willpower. By not
opposing her father and expressing her own opinions, she is following the stereotype of submission
and obedience placed on women during Shakespeare s time. Ophelia s betrayal of Hamlet is another
decision that leads to her downfall. When Ophelia is asked by Polonius to spy on Hamlet, she obliges
and attempts to deceive him. When Hamlet asks her where her father is, she shows her betrayal by
lying, claiming that Polonius is at home my lord (3.1.142). By agreeing to spy on Hamlet, Ophelia
becomes no different than everyone else who betrays Hamlet throughout the play. Ophelia even goes
as far as betraying her morals and lying to Hamlet in order to protect herself from the consequences
she might face if she confesses the truth to Hamlet. Ophelia s betrayal to Hamlet is a portrayal of her
weakness in her inability to face her own consequences.

GFW Censorship In China
Often times, people desire to have the ability to avoid any damaging publicity towards themselves and
their reputation, in China this is precisely what the government is doing. Rather than allowing users to
prospect the internet freely, they are constrained to being censored and patrolled by superior power.
The people of China are told lies by their government, only to impede further questioning of its
control. The Chinese government forces strict obedience to authority of their laws against the media in
attempt to prevent any disruption towards its sovereignty. The internet arrived in China for the first
time January, 1996, and the government started blocking foreign websites only 7 months later in
August of that year. Even though China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Night Of The Living Dead
The true origins of zombies and the undead can likely be traced back to the stories men and women
first told around campfires. They certainly date back to the origins of written language in tales such as
the epic of Gilgamesh, and have taken on many different attributes through the generations. The
shambling creatures that were first displayed in the movie titled The Night of the Living Dead are
what many would consider today to be the typical representation of the modern zombie story (Estes,
2012).
The zombies in the story Meathouse Man by George R. R. Martin do not follow this trend. They are
throwbacks to, and futuristic interpretations of, the Hattian zombie that is often acknowledged to be
the modern origin of today s zombie mythology.

Disease Control And Prevention Starting Reporting Lyme...
Introduction
Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention starting reporting Lyme disease as a reportable
disease in 1991 it has been the most commonly reported vector borne illness is the United States1. It
should be noted that Lyme disease does not occur everywhere in the US, and is heavily concentrated
in upper Midwest and northeast United States1. This report has been compiled to provide
recommendations for prophylactic treatment of Lyme disease once a patient encounters a tick bite.
Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted by Ixodes
dammini, otherwise known as the deer tick3. B. burgdorferi lives in the midgut of the deer tick, and

Serologic testing has not been proven to be effective in identifying B. burgdorferi. Antimicrobial
therapy has been at the forefront of research in trying to identify if prophylactic treatment is necessary
and what drug and dosing is most appropriate.
Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial
treatment is not routinely indicated.2 There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial, 203
patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo. Either 250mg of amoxicillin or
a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped out and 7 subjects
had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were therefore dismissed from the
study. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two developed symptomatic infection with
B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were given amoxicillin showed any infection.
They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected with B. burgdorferi is so small that the
prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical significance and should not be used. The
authors also indicated that most deer ticks are actually not infected with B. burgdorferi, which may
help explain why so little placebo subjects showed a positive infection after their encounter.
While Shapiro et al. was not able to recommend antimicrobial prophylaxis with amoxicillin Nadelman
et al. devised

The Myth Of Moral Systems Essay
Throughout the centuries, philosophers, theologians, and many others have grappled with the question
of the source of morality. It is difficult for one to argue that objective ethical and moral principles
exist, even though some will attempt to do this, but it is a debated topic when the origins of these
principles, if they even truly exist, come into question. Simply put, most people argue that the origins
of moral systems stem from God, that these things are based in human evolution and constructs, or
that they are born from something separate of them both. I argue that the principles of ethics and
morals do exist and are implanted in humans by God in the form of intrinsic human dignity; the
purpose of these systems are so that God can draw humans into a closer relation with Him. This
statement contrasts the possible views of others that the origin of these principles is natural,
evolutionary, or social constructs that have been instated by humans or something other than God.
To unpack the origins and meanings of moral systems, one must first define what morality is. Finding
a definition of morality is more difficult than it may seem. Some people would define morality as a
code of conduct for living based out of social, religious, or other personal contracts; however, the
concept is broader than that definition implies: ... some might regard it as definitional of morality, in
the normative sense, that it governs only interpersonal interactions. Others, however, might

Tissue Aging Research Paper
Among the diseases and disorders associated with advancing age, one of the most debilitating is the
loss of normal cardiac function leading to heart failure. Heart failure affects approximately 1% of
individuals over 50 and over 5% of individuals over 75. With the ongoing steep rise in the proportion
of elderly individuals within our population (Schocken et al., 2008), age related heart failure is

Most age related heart failure occurs in the setting of normal systolic function and is called diastolic

diversity amongst these people ranging from the north eastern Iroquois to the south western Hopi

Undocumented Immigrants Should Be Legal
America is a nation of immigration but America also faces the problem of illegal immigration. In
America the debate of whether undocumented immigrants should be able to get full amnesty is still a
controversy. Even though illegal immigrants did make an illicit action, many see the United States as
an opportunity for a better future. In addition, undocumented immigrants should be granted citizenship
because it will benefit the United States. Creating an amnesty for the students will help the United
States by improving the economy, create more jobs and decrease deportation.
Granting citizenship to illegal immigrants will benefit the United States in the economy. Legalizing
immigrants will help them earn more money than they already do. This means that immigrants will
pay more taxes and consume more. When people start consuming more goods there is a higher
demand, necessitating more jobs. Authorizing immigrants will allow them to pay federal taxes and
state tax. Many immigrants already pay taxes only 30 to 50 percent of immigrants don t report taxes.
According to the Center for American Progress, immigrants don t report taxes, because they fear to get
discovered and deported (Lynch, 2013). Passing the reform will increase tax profit to $116 billion in
federal and $68 billion in state and local taxes (Lynch, 2013). Increasing tax profit will benefit
citizenship because taxes will decrease on each individual. Creating an amnesty for immigration will

Michael Pollen Food Rules Analysis
In Food Rules: An Eater s Manual, journalist and writer Michael Pollen provides a set of simple rules

this manual, he breaks down what really is food and how people can change small everyday habits to
stay healthy.
The most helpful rule Pollan provided in these guidelines is Rule 12, Shop the peripheries of the
supermarket and stay away from the middle (Pollen 27). He says this because the outer walls of
grocery stores contain fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Consequently, the middle isles usually

Women s Rights Socially, Economically, And Politically
Throughout history mistakes are made, tragic events occur, and wars arise. As a result, people
document these events, write stories, or simply express their emotions. In particular, this can be seen
in many American movements such as Romanticism in which people believed logic and reason can
only get one so far. As time passed these movements became a thing of the past and are seen irrelevant
in today s modern age. However, one movement that is still relevant today is the advancement or
support of women s rights socially, economically, and politically. For instance, three texts that still tie
with Feminism today is April Showers, A Journey, and Fullness of Life. In April Showers, the author
illustrates the many difficulties a woman undergoes attempting to support her family by being a writer.
Furthermore, in A Journey, it depicts the hardships a woman encounters when she is forced to accept
the unknown. Lastly, in the story Fullness of Life, it displays a woman meeting her destined partner in
the afterlife, which leads her to realize that what she wanted is not what she needed and as a result, she
decides to wait for her husband leaving her destined partner. Overall these works still demonstrate the
cruelties and unfairness that females endure in America today. Therefore the most relevant American
author today is Edith Wharton because her work still reflects women s oppression in the workplace,
their struggle to be completely independent and be thoroughly understood by

Knowing that your child has a birth defect or an abnormality can make the delivery very emotional.
An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the delivery depending
on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as well and how fast it will
go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an advanced maternal age is
Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal defect. The mother must also be
motivated to keep herself healthy in good shape during and before the pregnancy (if planning to get
pregnant). The mother must want to maintain a good health status in order to make the pregnancy a
successful one, no matter the age. She must follow all the doctor s orders and go to her regular check
ups as needed. Usually, by not following the doctor s orders is where abnormalities and defects can
occur. The doctors make the mother aware of the consequences that can happen when they don t do
what is asked of them during the pregnancy and what can happen if they do the complete opposite.
The complete opposite would be eating bad, not caring about their health status at all, not drinking
enough water or drinking an excessive amount of sugary or alcoholic beverages, smoking, using
drugs, not taking the pre natal vitamins, and not exercising as much as they could be. All of these
things can result in

Becoming A Law Enforcement Officer Essay
The decision to become a law enforcement officer came to me around age eighteen. Since then, my
behavior has been appropriate, and of high standard. However, I did a few things during my teenage
years that I am not proud of. When I was fifteen I stole an MP3 player from another student at my
high school and then shoplifted a pair of earphones from a local Walmart. A year later I shoplifted a
pack of condoms from the same Walmart. These events have been haunting me ever since, and have
changed the way I look at things compared to when I was a teenage kid. I was attending Kofa High
School the first time I stole something of value. It was during class, we had just gone out of the
classroom as a group and for some reason I went back into the class to grab something out of my
backpack. When I was leaving the room I saw the MP3 player on a mesh pocket on one of the
backpacks. I thought to myself for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At age sixteen my girlfriend and I were beginning to want to have sex. I knew I needed to wear
protection, for I thought that she would get pregnant if we did anything more than kiss. At that age I
thought I was ready for sex; however, I was not ready to go up to the cash register to pay for condoms.
The thought of paying for condoms filled me with dread, especially because I wasn t sure on their
policies of selling condoms to minors. It sounds ignorant to me now, but the teenage me was not sure
about the legality of buying condoms at age sixteen and the thought of being the center of attention at
the cash register was just dreadful. I knew I definitely needed protection but I was too scared to buy it,
so I took three condoms out of a pack and walked out of the store with the condoms in my pocket. Just
like with the earphones, I went back to Walmart years later, bought a pack of condoms, and then left
them behind. I know it doesn t make up for what I did, but it felt good to do

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fist Fight In Heaven Analysis
Throughout the book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, life is heavily portrayed on
the Spokane Indian Reservation. Some factors of life such as tradition and storytelling are easily
noticed throughout the book; however, some less noticed factors of life such as resilience and
forgiveness might forgo the reader s attention. The challenges faced by those living on the reservation
are abundant. The way these individuals, especially Victor, overcome these challenges is just a
testimony to their character and emotional strength. Tradition plays a huge role in the characters lives
that live on the reservation. Thomas portrays his respect towards traditional Spokane culture by
participating in Spokane storytelling. He is always trying to convince Victor to join in on the
storytelling, dancing, and ceremonies, but Victor seems uninterested. Compared to Thomas, Victor
seems to be quite removed at the beginning of the book. Victor actively makes fun of Thomas and
how much he cares about the culture on the reservation. Although Thomas is constantly being made
fun of by Victor, he still continues his traditions and still continues to try to convince Victor to join in
on the traditions. Towards the end, Victor begins to connect more with ... Show more content on

Thomas and Victor both participate in storytelling but in different ways. Thomas tells stories with
natural or historical settings; whereas, Victor s stories are very bleak and realistic. Contemporary life
is referred to on the reservation and is quite often used as the main topic of stories told. Storytelling on
the Spokane reservation helps to preserve Native American history and cultural traditions. Although
storytelling portrays reality, it also provides the individuals on the reservation with hope. It does not
matter the individual s stance on tradition; tradition plays a huge role in the life of every character

Racial Discrimination In Education Case Study
Discrimination According to the free advice staff (2016), racial discrimination in education refers to
any harassment of students based on race, color, or national origin (Para. 1). The actions of
discrimination are nothing new. Discrimination takes on many forms and have occurred over many
years. Discrimination has even been brought back to focus through the media coverage of current
events. Discrimination of the 1950 s represented an age of equal opportunities in education. One such
educational opportunity pursued was at the University of Texas Law School where a student wanted
admission but because of his color was denied access. The fight for equal education is then established
and the case of Sweatt v Painter begins. The Reason cited in Complaint Sweatt v Painter is a case that
shifted equality in education to new standards of admission and enrollment for African Americans.
The complaint in this case was in the automatic application denial of admission for Herman Marion
Sweatt to the University of Texas Law School. According to the state law of the time, blacks could not
have access to the University. The institutions way of resolving the issue was to offer him acceptance
through a separate facility. The facility was the School of Law of the Texas State University ... Show

As a practical matter, it greatly facilitated the demise of segregation in universities, graduate, and
professional schools (p. 67 68). Other cases that followed continued the awareness and pushed for
equal education. Cases such as Cumming v. Richmond County Board of Education, Plessy v.
Ferguson, Berea College v. Kentucky, Henderson v. United States, and McLaurin v. Oklahoma State
Regents for Higher Education stood against physical isolation of blacks who were admitted to
facilities open to

Figurative Language In Fast Food Nation
In 1987, IBP (Iowa Beef Processors) fined 2.6 million dollars to a Dakota City Plant for
underreporting injuries, then another 31 million for a high rate of cumulative trauma injuries. The
book spoke of the dangers and the behind the scenes event behind the making of fast food, such as the
process of the food and workers undergo. Eric Schlosser spoke about fast food, showing us what we re
really eating and the tragedies behind the closed doors of the slaughter houses. The book explains fast
food in another sense. He wrote the book because he wanted to inform the reader of the reality of fast
food and the way the workers put their lives on the line. In Fast Food Nation, Schlosser s purpose is to
get the word about the terror in the fast food industry as demonstrated by his use of rhetorical
strategies such as, repetition, figurative language, and pathos. Schlosser uses repetition to show
emphasis on his main claim(s). In the quote, the kill floor is hot and humid, it stinks of manure... keep
an eye on them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the book, it says, Do what I tell you, even if it is illegal... Don t get caught. That quote
just goes to prove that those plants have more behind closed doors than we think. People expect the
yummy, fast food to be all glamour and greatness, but they don t take the time to do their research and
consider all that plays into it. In the book, Schlosser uses good rhetorical devices, such as repetition,
figurative language, and pathos, to get his point across. Long story short, the fast food industry isn t all
it is out to be. The process is a filthy process we re willingly putting in our mouths, after considering
all that happens at those slaughter houses. After reading, I d watch what I put in my body, wouldn t

Reliability And Validity Of Interviews Essay
Then turn to interviews. Interviews are classed as a qualitative research method and remain one of the
most utilised research methods in industrial and HRM research. Whipp (1998, p.55) notes that The
interview is the primary means of accessing the experiences and subjective views of actors . The main
advantage of the interviews is that the rich data can be obtained from an interview. According to White
(1989) the research into solicitor s perceptions of ACAS was relatively easy to set up and forty
interviews are completed for five months. It is necessary to use interviews to gain more detailed, in
depth explanations from participants, which may provide a much better understanding of their
perceptions and actions. On the other hand, The time consuming nature of preparing, arranging,
conducting and writing up interview, which refers to that it is probable only a limited number of
research participants can be interviewed within a short time period may be the biggest disadvantage of
the interviews.
There are three main formats of the interviews, which are structured interviews, non standard
interviews and the last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the information will be provided about use of data, and the information will be kept safely
and not provided to other parties. Punch (1998, p.166) states that An understanding of this area needs
to be rooted in knowledge of a number of studies that have given rise to moral and ethical questions .
The reliability and validity of any research conducted are clearly of importance. Reliability is a less
problematic concept, which for the purposes of small scale research projects, can be addressed
through careful design of interview or survey questions to reduce ambiguities. Bell (2010, p.119)
states that validity is an altogether more complex concept . Validity is more complicated since it is
harder to establish whether fieldwork research can paint a true picture of what is being

Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Analysis The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the story of a Lioness During the dawn of the new century, a young black woman taps on her microphone, surrounded by everything from the romantic twang of a harp to the rustic beat of the timpani drum. Her hair twisted in locks, envelopes her face the studio lights streaming on her face make her look like a lion, courageous and proud of herself, her ideals and her vision. This isn t even the beginning. Lauryn Hill s story starts in a township named after the Prince of Orange, in New Jersey where she grew up listening to Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. As a freshman in high school Hill (now going by L. Boogie) started Tranzlator Crew with Pras Michel. Later, Wyclef Jean replaced one of their original female singers and they renamed their band to the Fugees (inspired by the word refugee an offensive term for Haitian Americans) and focused mostly on genre bending in reggae, rock and soul. During the early Fugees days Jean and Hill started dating. However, there was always a healthy competition between Jean and Hill, with both trying to outdo the other vocally and professionally. • 4. Superman As A Prime Pop Culture Caricature Of The American... Superman is one of the most famous fictional characters in the world, and is a prime Pop Culture caricature of the American Identity. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two Jewish immigrant descendants, in the year 1933, and would see his comic book debut in 1938. While the exact reason for his creation is debatable, it is clear that Superman represents many of the American Ideals involving Individuality as well as Unity. Superman s origin follows the alien refugee s landing in a rural town in Kansas, after having his homeplanet destroyed, eventually being accepted by the humble American farmers as one of their own. Superman would eventually leave his hometown to go to the city of Metropolis where he would lead a double life, one as mild mannered Clark Kent, and the other being of the indestructible Superman. Clear trends of unity can be seen in his origin, as from the very start Superman is a member of a different culture, and is accepted into the American family, similarly to the image many immigrants were told regarding the land of opportunity. The symbolism doesn t stop there, however, as Superman himself would show signs of what it would mean to be an American. He is strong, determined, morally straight, and for a good portion of his early adaptations, used his gifts to better society, helping those who need help, and saving those who need saving. Throughout history, there have been many literary tragic heroes: Hamlet from Shakespeare s Hamlet, Romeo from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, and even Jay Gatsby from F. Moral Education and Emotional Lying Essay Moral Education and Emotional Lying There is a long tradition, fathered by Aristotle and recurring like some recessive gene in recent virtue theorists, that holds that the emotions, like acts, must be trained . Consider the following: [In Beckett s portrayal,] Emotions are not feelings that well up in some natural and untutored way from our natural selves, that they are, in fact, not personal or natural at all, that they are, instead, contrivances, social constructs. We learn how to feel, and we learn our emotional repertoire. We learn emotions in the same way that we learn our beliefs from our society. Agent Y exhibits or does not exhibit emotions also in accordance with social demands, while considering this also merely a means to ensure social harmony. Neither Agent X nor Agent Y believe in what they are doing, in any sense deeper than the wish to conform to reasonable social demands. We can portray this situation as follows: Agent CA conforms with respect to acting. Agent CE conforms with respect to emoting . Agent BA believes in his acts. Agent BE believes in his emotions Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or worse? Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely hurled against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Even Williams (1973, p224) states that simulating emotions one does not feel could be misleading, even deceitful . Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he is a misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he knows what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,

In Thebes, Dionysus finds a structured and ordered society, with their goal simply being to work as hard as possible, while Dionysus aims to simply live to have fun and make merry. Due to the disrespect given to him by the Thebans as a result of their differences, Dionysus aims to take revenge and force the people to worship him by destroying their society and recreating it in his image. Despite Dionysus repeatedly trying to convince King Pentheus to see logic, the constant rebuffing at every turn eventually leads to him giving up reconciliation and condemning the king to death. As soon as King Pentheus says bring me my arms, attendants! and stop talking, you!, there is no more talking to be done, and one can see that at this point that the always rational King Pentheus has repressed the irrational, represented by Dionysus, since he is quite literally calling for his weapons to kill Dionysus and his followers. (Euripides 809). Since King Pentheus has rejected what Dionysus has had to say and called for his armor, Dionysus is left with no choice but to become vengeful and consequently starts to lead King Pentheus to his doom. The critic AJ Podlecki refers to this when he says Dionysus had told Pentheus, but he did not heed the warning, for his final assault on the Bacchae is seen as a mad expedition which he is bound to fail (Podlecki 151). Dionysus had warned Pentheus not to do anything rash, because there was no chance that he could defeat a god in battle. Service Quality Is An Antecedent Of Perceived Value Essay Service quality is an antecedent of perceived value, and it will cause a significant influence on perceived value (Bojanic, 1996; Oh, 1999; Sweeney et al., 1999). Ostrom Iacobucci (1995) found that price, level of quality, friendliness of service personnel, and the degree of customization of the service are important factors to customer value perceptions. Although customer perceived value has long been recognized in marketing research as an important concept in influencing preference, satisfaction, loyalty, and other important outcomes (Cronin et al., 2000), most studies have examined customer value in the context of offline rather than online customer behavior (Overby Lee, 2006). Although customer perceived value in the online shopping environment is of crucial importance, previous studies have neglected that variable (Chang et al., 2005). In an online environment, customers can find alternatives easily; therefore building long term relationships presents a more difficult challenge for E commerce companies (Chang Wang, 2011). Gummerus (2010) investigated the impact of three resource inputs (i.e., service content, service process, and service configurations) on the perceptions of value of a Finnish health care website. Race and racial inequalities are one of the most vital issues confronting contemporary U.S. society, explains Sociologist Ronald Takaki. In the past race has had both biological and social implications across the country. However, the video Race: The Power of Illusion presents significant evidence refuting the biological theories of race. Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory instructor Scott Bronson and several high school students from different ethnicities conducted personal genetic research exploring biological race theory. Students typed their blood, compared skin tones and took DNA samples. After sending the samples to a genetics lab, Bronson asked students whom they might expect to be more genetically similar to in the workshop. Piaget was an extremely brilliant child, and he excelled at his studies. By age 11, he wrote a short paper on an albino sparrow. Many people believe that this paper ignited his scientific career. Once he graduated high school, he attended the University of Neuchatel. Piaget received a Ph.D. in natural sciences. He was extremely interested in the development of knowledge, so he worked with Alred Binet and De Simon to do experimental studies on the growing mind. Piaget eventually married Valentine Chatenay and had three children. His children are Jacqueline, Lucieene, and Laurent. Piaget continued his study on intellectual development by studying his own children. Les Smith describes Piaget s scientific conclusion as the growth of knowledge is a progressive construction of logically embedded structures superseding one another by a process of inclusion of lower less powerful ones up to adulthood. Therefore, a children s logic and modes of thinking are initially entirely different from those of adults. As a result of Piaget s experiments he made Piaget s Stages of Development. • 25. Questions On Common Types Of Contracts Contract Types There are multiple factors that influence the type(s) of contract(s) utilized/selected within a project. Some of these factors include: the level of uncertainty related to the scope of work, the amount of project risk willing to be assumed, importance of meeting schedule milestone dates, and the need for projected costs, among others (Darnall Preston, 2013). Whatever the driving factors are in the selection process, once established, the type of contract selected can have a significant influence on the decision making process related to the trade off of the triple constraints of cost, time, and performance (Kerzner, 2013). This paper will briefly explain five common types of contracts focusing primarily on how each type can affect project constraint trade off. Common Types of Contracts There are two general types of contracts: fixed price and cost reimbursable, with each main type having several variations (Darnall Preston, 2013). The two most common variations of fixed price contracts are, firm fixed price and fixed price incentive fee (Kerzner, 2103). For cost reimbursable contracts, the three most common variations are, the cost plus incentive fee, the cost plus award fee, and the cost plus fixed fee (Kerzner, 2013). Each type and variation influences project trade off decisions relative to the triple constraints of cost, time, and performance differently (Kerzner, 2013). • 26. Dominance And Development Of Conflict Management Styles Dominating Style in Conflict Resolution Graham Jackson LSAL 3133 301 Introduction Thesis Statement I believe that there is a link between childhood experiences and the development of conflict management styles, arguing that the exposures to family conflict resolution plays a great role in determining the development of the dominating conflict resolution style. Conflict is an inevitable part of human interaction. However, the way people deal with conflict is largely linked with the outcome of the conflict resolution. Many studies have been conducted to analyze the different styles of conflict management and resolution as Tou, Baker, Hadden and Lin (2015) write. Consequently, the increasing amount of research conducted on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By far, the integrative approach is the best style of conflict management as it envisages a high level of concern for both the conflict manager and the conflicting parties. The compromising style of conflict management is characterized by the moderate concern for both the conflicting parties and the conflict resolver. In other instances, the conflict manager exhibits low concern for self while having high concern for others. For this reason the conflict management style is often referred to as obliging. Even more, there are instances when the conflict manager chooses to adopt the avoiding style of conflict. In this style, there is low concern for both self and others. Missing in the above overview of the conflict management styles is the dominating style, which is discussed in this study. Hopeck, Desrayaud, Harrison and Hatten (2014) defined conflict resolution as a process that should be geared towards having a solution that suits all the parties involved in the conflict. The author outlined how solution oriented conflict resolution style provides more positive outcomes in comparison to the other styles of conflict management The dominating style of conflict management is one that Cai and Fink (2002) linked to frustration. • 27. Theme Of Sacrifice In Hamlet As the great American journalist Norman Cousins once said, The tragedy of life is not death but what we let die inside of us while we live. Throughout William Shakespeare s Hamlet, it is a commonly held belief that the play is a legendary tragedy because most of the characters fall to their deaths. Indeed, when Hamlet is analysed, many characters throughout the play meet their own demise which helps advance this theme. However, when a closer look is taken, it becomes apparent that the tragedy of Hamlet truly lies in how the characters live their lives. Foremost, Claudius is a secondary character whose selfish actions, contribute to the tragic downfall of his character. Ophelia s tragedy is, likewise, a result of her passiveness and poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Primarily, Ophelia accepts the social status placed on her by her father, Polonius, by obeying his manipulative and controlling ways. For instance, when Polonius orders Ophelia to cut off all contact with her lover Ophelia agrees to follow her father s orders saying, I shall obey, my lord. (1.3.141). Ophelia s response can be seen as her acceptance towards the restrictions placed on her by her father. In doing so, Ophelia displays that her weakness lies in her lack of assertiveness and willpower. By not opposing her father and expressing her own opinions, she is following the stereotype of submission and obedience placed on women during Shakespeare s time. Ophelia s betrayal of Hamlet is another decision that leads to her downfall. When Ophelia is asked by Polonius to spy on Hamlet, she obliges and attempts to deceive him. When Hamlet asks her where her father is, she shows her betrayal by lying, claiming that Polonius is at home my lord (3.1.142). By agreeing to spy on Hamlet, Ophelia becomes no different than everyone else who betrays Hamlet throughout the play. Ophelia even goes as far as betraying her morals and lying to Hamlet in order to protect herself from the consequences she might face if she confesses the truth to Hamlet. Ophelia s betrayal to Hamlet is a portrayal of her weakness in her inability to face her own consequences. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Either 250mg of amoxicillin or a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped out and 7 subjects had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were therefore dismissed from the study. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two developed symptomatic infection with B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were given amoxicillin showed any infection. They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected with B. burgdorferi is so small that the prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical significance and should not be used. • 32. The Myth Of Moral Systems Essay Throughout the centuries, philosophers, theologians, and many others have grappled with the question of the source of morality. It is difficult for one to argue that objective ethical and moral principles exist, even though some will attempt to do this, but it is a debated topic when the origins of these principles, if they even truly exist, come into question. Simply put, most people argue that the origins of moral systems stem from God, that these things are based in human evolution and constructs, or that they are born from something separate of them both. I argue that the principles of ethics and morals do exist and are implanted in humans by God in the form of intrinsic human dignity; the purpose of these systems are so that God can draw humans into a closer relation with Him. This statement contrasts the possible views of others that the origin of these principles is natural, evolutionary, or social constructs that have been instated by humans or something other than God. To unpack the origins and meanings of moral systems, one must first define what morality is. Finding a definition of morality is more difficult than it may seem. Some people would define morality as a code of conduct for living based out of social, religious, or other personal contracts; however, the concept is broader than that definition implies: ... some might regard it as definitional of morality, in the normative sense, that it governs only interpersonal interactions. As a result, people document these events, write stories, or simply express their emotions. In particular, this can be seen in many American movements such as Romanticism in which people believed logic and reason can only get one so far. As time passed these movements became a thing of the past and are seen irrelevant in today s modern age. However, one movement that is still relevant today is the advancement or support of women s rights socially, economically, and politically. For instance, three texts that still tie with Feminism today is April Showers, A Journey, and Fullness of Life. In April Showers, the author illustrates the many difficulties a woman undergoes attempting to support her family by being a writer. Furthermore, in A Journey, it depicts the hardships a woman encounters when she is forced to accept the unknown. Lastly, in the story Fullness of Life, it displays a woman meeting her destined partner in the afterlife, which leads her to realize that what she wanted is not what she needed and as a result, she decides to wait for her husband leaving her destined partner.
