1. Dear All,
Thank you for accepting our invitation to participate in our project on “Honing of Written
Assessment: A Criteria referenced holistic approach”.
We shall be familiarising ourselves with the writing features to be assessed and get a hands on
experience applying them with the help of a band descriptor. The take home for us would be an
enlarged perception of writing
a. Shifting focus from discrete features to discourse features
b. Assist learners to rise up to international standards
c. Use wash back to assist learners improve their skills
We further, extend you an invitation to assess written scripts (single 200 word long essay) at
our premises at dates and timings that suit you (between 9.30 and 5.00 p.m.).
On Project days
1. Assessors reach the venue at agreed time and collect scripts from assessment, pencil
box scoring sheets and rating criteria from Ms. Sangeetha of the Exam Cell.
2. You’d take the scripts in bundles of 20 per hour and on completing and returning them
collect your fresh bundle
3. Enter the marks in the score sheet, add up the total for each candidate and include a
global comment on one or two significant features,
4. No marks are made in the scripts, an overarching statement summarizing the
performance of the candidate is to be recorded.
5. 10% of the scripts will be rerated for reliability; those exhibiting deviations of 1 grade
or more would have desist from further assessment to spend time familiarizing
themselves with the descriptors and a few scripts to demonstrate parity with the official
grades.
6. You will be signing a confidentiality statement and return all material and papers to this
office.
XAT office liaises with the examiners, allocate the schedule and organises the transfer of
remuneration.
Thanks & Regards
