2. The title of the film is placed in the lower centre left
third. The writing is in upper case green and black
writing which stands out against the white background
and immediately gets the audience attention. The
tagline below is also in green and black, from this we
get a hint that the film will be about football as it says
‘when you can bend a ball like Beckham’ and
Beckham is of the worlds most famous football player.
At the top of the poster in the centre is a review of
how a newspaper has reviewed the film in bright
orange and black upper case writing which is eye
catching. Not many film posters do this and follow
this convention but when they do it’s good as the
target audience like to know how the film is
reviewed and rated before they see it themselves as
they want to get good value for their money.
Near the bottom of the poster are a condensed
version in grey writing of the credits i.e. the actors
and actresses that will star in the film. This gives
the audience an idea of who will be in the film, if
they like who they see is in the film they are much
more likely to see it. Below that are the credits of
the producers, directors etc that give an idea to the
target audience of who has helped to make this
film. This is a key feature as more people are
bound to watch the film if they know a top
producer and director has made the film.
Condensed credits are a typical convention you
would find on a film poster.
The main image on the poster are of the two main
characters and four other characters behind them.
From this we know these characters star in the film
and are represented through a long shot. The two
main characters are enlarged and can be seen they
can be seen very clearly which suggests that they are
very powerful. We are able to see their facial
expressions, body language and costumes of the
characters which gives the audience a slight
understanding of what they are like. From there body
language we can see that they both very playful as
one of the characters ahs the other character in a
headlock and we see from their facial expressions
that they’re both laughing which suggests that they
are friends. The costumes they’re wearing are very
laid back as they are T-Shirts, trainers, sweat pants
and a skirt which is sport wear and suggests that they
might like to play sport, specifically football as the
title mentions ‘bend a ball like Beckham. In this shot,
we also see four Asian women including a bride who
are shown to be who are very small in the
background who can’t be seen as clearly as the main
two characters which suggests that they aren’t as
powerful and are inferior to them. We can see from
the type of costume worn for e.g. suit and sari that
they are Asian and one is a bride. Their facial
expressions seem to be looking as if they’re quite
confused and there body language almost looks as if
they’re wondering what the two main characters are
doing and why as they’re pointing at them with there
shoulders shrugged.
The background colour of this film poster is plain
white which allows everything else on the poster
to stand out, to be bright and bold as possible to
capture the attention of the target audience so they
notice the poster. Things such as the: colour of the
costumes the characters are wearing and the colour
of the text on the poster are all in bright colours
which stand out from the plain white background
which is very captivating grabs the attention of the
audience. Having all the content on the poster
stand out from the background is a convention
many film posters follow as they want everything
to be noticed on the poster.
