Working on the RiFSK has been a journey. Among tight deadlines, an onslaught of constructive
criticism, and extensive experimentation, the class was mentally straining, yet fulfilling. I genuinely
feel that the class came together to create something worthwhile, and I am lucky to have made my
own contributions to our project. First and foremost, my responsibility lied with the Coordination
and Website group. Distributing tasks among the whole class was essential to both distributing the
workload and having a thorough understanding of what our problem is. The Coordination and
website group took the responsibility of facilitating efforts and conversations among all of the
different groups. Facilitating efficient conversation and work was our responsibility during class
time. When Professor Cumberbatch had nothing planned, we always had an agenda of matters that
needed to be discussed as a full group. Oftentimes, I was the one timing each segment of our time in
order to allocate adequate discussion time for different material. Although I would not always be
able to keep us exactly on schedule, I was usually the person who spoke up to move on to the next

other teams from our DTC section in Room G205 of the Ford Motor Company Engineering Design
Center at 2:30 P.M. We presented the problem we were tasked with solving, our client's and user's
needs, and our mock–up design, the "Triple Threat". The Triple Threat is a system that places a
structure that holds three rolls of netting, one on the top and one along each side, next to a row of up
20 vehicles (see figure 32, and figure 33 on the following page). The netting is then deployed by
rolling a structure that is attached to the ends of the netting over the row of vehicles. In addition to
asking for general feedback, we asked those in attendance to address the issues of the potential
stability of our product along with the problem of hailstones piling atop the netting. Figure 32:

Constraints are vital for any type of design project. While you do not want too many of them within
your project, they are inevitable and should be worked around accordingly. Most of the constraints
we will face involve resources and time. We have a limited budget and all of our group members
have busy schedules. While these constraints will conflict with the abstract properties of the system,
they are very important to prepare for during the design process. Thus, we carefully determined and
listed the necessary constraints for our design project shown in Appendix A.

Standards are also a vital engineering requirement that help ensure the health and safety of any
products that are designed, produced, and presented to the market by engineers. Without having a

vehicle must complete a course carrying the maximum mass possible at the fastest speed. These

The Engineering Design Process When designing a robot or vehicle, the process used to build the
device is called the Engineering Design Process. This process begins with identifying the problem.
Once the problem has been identified, research will take place. During research, constraints must be
taken into account and ways to work around these discovered. Also how the Sphero functions should
be taken into account. Once research is complete and some background knowledge has been
attained, brainstorming can begin. This is when robot designs can be sketched out and discussed.
Once all the designs are evaluated, the best solution will be the first to be prototyped. Once in the
prototyping phase, the robot will be built and then tested. The testing phase allows the robot's
functions to be evaluated on how well they meet the criteria. At this point, the robot will either be
