FBN continue to execute on previously articulated regional expansion strategy being consistent in
their objective of effectively maximizing shareholder value while harnessing the benefits of
diversification. First bank plc have only pursued expansion into countries that will disproportionately
add economic value over the medium to long term and bolster the banking group s strategic

Effect Of Smartphones On Advertising
Dr. Fusani
Zack Mineo
Spring 2016
The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled
within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.( 2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic ). As the number of
users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones have
dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we can
understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that
advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it will
further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the
advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is?
Background of advertising
Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the goal
of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik Advertising is any form of
nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for by an identified
sponsor. (Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates back to 1922 when the
Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to commend living in
country lots from Queensboro Realty. (Dominick 179). Since then advertising has grown rapidly
especially during the time of the depression and World War II. President Franklin D Roosevelt wanted

Watching a Movie at Home vs. Theater Essay example
Movies are one of the biggest entertainment sources for anyone in the world, and for the same reason
film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies per year
than any other country. People watch movies at home on their television or in the theaters on a big
screen where the film is been displayed with a movie projector onto a large projection screen at the
front of the auditorium. Watching a movie at home or in theater is an enjoyable experience for
everyone depending on personal preferences.
In a theater, one can watch movies as soon as they are released without having to wait until they are
released on a DVD or shown on a local television channel. At the same ... Show more content on

It can be easier for parents to exercise their control over children if they are watching a movie at
home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding it or
stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters make it more
difficult on parent s pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for children. The food
items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if added on to the price
of entrance ticket.
Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies with
one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their favorite
movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one wants to wait
for the television channels to telecast them.
There is a broad variety of types of theaters available conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in s.
Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a
popular dating spot for person any age. One can choose between the types of theater one wants to go
to and what suits their needs, but a home television might not be able to give you all these options.
One does not even have to spend extra money on special glasses or other accessories needed to watch

Environmental Education And The Urban Challenges
The topic I propose to develop my research in is environmental education and the urban challenges it
faces. The urgency of the current state of the environmental agenda makes it necessary to promote
environmental awareness in all generations as indispensable for a sustainable future. Despite this,
environmental education is still absent in most school programs and struggles to compete with formal
education when in fact they should be one and the same. Efforts to change this have been recorded and
so I propose to review literature on the topic. First, the literature research will approach definition of
environmental education as well as education for sustainable development and definition and
understanding of urban environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the current situation and context surrounding that topic? You should overview the general
subject area (and, where possible, the theoretical foundation as reported in published work) and
identify, in relation to the relevant reading you will have covered, a general problem that you can
tackle in your research.]
Sustainable development interconnects with the economic growth, nature conservation and the
concept of equality for all. Environmental education is a complex and dynamic field, and so, a
difficult one to assess. But given the urgency of the topic, its evaluation and better understanding may
provide us with the tools necessary to pursue sustainability. My primary motivation for the research
resides in the importance of sustainability as a vital practice for the future. The best way to do this is
through the spreading of knowledge and improvement of education and learning and find what can be
done to enhance it.
I find that it is necessary to understand the history and implementation of environmental education.
The use of the term environmental education itself is not considered relevant, especially due to the fact
that there is little agreement on it. Different authors have different opinions, such as Disinger (1993),
Wheeler (1985) and Sterling (1992). It is considered important, however, the actors in the history of
events that sought out for the need for an education for sustainable development.

Osteoporosis And Rheumatoid Arthritis Case Study
.2 Lytic (erosive)
Lytic conditions involve the loss of bone (Byers, 2010). Osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis are both
common forms of arthritis. Arthritis is a highly prevalent disease that affects 8.5 million people in the
UK and almost a quarter of doctor s visits regard this illness. Osteoporosis causes disproportionate
bone loss and inadequate bone replacement. The bone loss causes weakness, so osteoporosis often
causes fractures in the vertebral column, femur and radius. Osteoporosis is more common in women,
with one in three women developing it in their lifetimes. The proportion of men who develop
osteoporosis is much lower, with only one in ten who are sufferers. Osteoporosis based fractures are

Rickets and Osteomalacia present when the body either does not receive enough vitamin D in the diet
(malnutrition) or is not capable of acquiring enough vitamin D from food (malabsorption) (Black and

and remodelling of the bone. Osteomalacia is a little different, modelling of the bone does not take
place, growth plates fuse, and remodelling is abnormal. Rickets is more obvious in sections of bone in
which growth is the fastest. Therefore, the skull, rib cage, wrists and legs are most affected in children.
Osteomalacia is found in adults when symptoms occur the axial skeleton is most affected.
Osteomalacia may cause waddling and so the gait of the person should be tested. In rickets, radiology

The Blitz In Graham Greene s The Destructors
Sumi Sunny
ENG 274 OL
Dr. Marilyn Johnson
24 October 2017
Major Paper
Graham Greene wrote The Destructors which is about a group of boys who destroys Mr. Thomas s
house. The story takes place after WWII and explains that Germany demolished London. There are
two things that the story connects to the history of London; one is when Germany attacks London. The
attack was known as The Blitz and shows how much damage Germany has caused London. Another
connection is the movement of the Teddy Boys. The story took place after nine years when the war
ended, and the Teddy Boys movement began around the 1950s. They were known as rebels and had a
reputation for violence. Thus the society blamed the Teddy Boys for many of society s ill in the 1950s.
The history of the Blitz shows how the boys are affected and this is connected to them because they
tend to be rebels and what their response to the world around them. Graham Greene s The Destructors
explained that young people have no hope and promises and challenges the traditional expectations of
them, by showing them to be incapable of finding something practical in the world around them and
within themselves.
The Blitz began in England in September 1940; Germans required avoiding a long war. The Blitz, also
known as the Blitzkrieg is a German word for lightning. The British press applied this word because
of the frequent bomb raids that were carried out over Britain in 1940 1941. The intense bombing on

How did the Prohibition Change the United States of...
The word Prohibition as stated in the World Book encyclopaedia refers to laws that are designed to
prevent the drinking of alcoholic beverages. The enforcement of the Volstead Act in the United States
of America (USA) saw the nationwide beginning of the prohibition on the 16th of January 1920. The
Prohibition brought about a change in attitude for the people of the United States (USA). It caused an
extreme rise in crime; encouraging everyday people to break the law and increased the amount of
liquor that was consumed nationwide. Overall this law was a failure because a law can not be enforced
on a democratic society with out the support of a majority. The effect of this mistake (prohibition)

The drinking of alcoholic beverages became an act of rebellion against authority from the beginning
of Prohibition, especially among university students and flappers. Alcohol consumption did increase
over Prohibition years, $40 million of liquor had been smuggled into the United States in 1924 alone
and that did not include the amount of alcohol which people made illegally in their own homes, which
was most likely consumed that same year as well. There was a decrease in the consumption of beer,
because it had to be transported in large quantities, which made the substance difficult to hide, as a
result prices of beer and other alcoholic substances which had to be transported in such large
quantities skyrocketed. Once this had happened people began to turn to the more concentrated forms
of alcohol or hard liquors , which were a lot easier to transport and as a consequence they were
cheaper. Due to the increase in consumption of more concentrated forms of alcohol, people got drunk
much faster than in pre prohibition years. Consequently there were more alcohol related deaths during
the Prohibition, due to a rise in alcohol consumption, as people were being poisoned by alcohol that
was highly concentrated and or poisoned. Deaths from poisoned liquor rose from 1,064 in 1920 to
4,154 in 1925.
There are many views as to why the Prohibition failed. One of the main reasons was due to the fact
that a law can not be

Analyze The Values Of American Society
The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more
disadvantages than advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of
agreement on most of the values considered American could be detrimental to the country and as an
international power. Most American values revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a goal.
Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are all values considered the focus of most
Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating the competition, one can
acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can push a nation forward
economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources are wasted, foreign
relations are strained, and many within the country are left struggling. Capitalism is moral and
practical as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and act productively to sustain one s life
and experience happiness on earth. In macroeconomic terms, capitalism is the best system available
and the system America has always used. When looking at individual communities and families
struggling to simply make ends meet, it is easy to question why the government will not set in and
help its own people. When America was smaller and agriculturally focused, capitalism worked for ...

Nacirema Culture Analysis
For us to properly learn about culture, we must understand the meaning of cultural relativism and
ethnocentrism. The two concepts challenge one another. Reading the article, we must pull away from
our ethnocentric views and think critically about the Nacirema people s. However, the description of
the culture creates an ideology that is hard to agree with. For example, the Nacirema peoples take part
in a rite that involves hog hairs and magical powders. The Nacirema rituals do sound strange and
displeasing but, we have to learn to recognize our ethnocentric judgments.
An anthropologist will try to read and understand the Nacirema culture with the notion of being
culturally relative. With this way of thinking in mind, we could study the Nacirema peoples without
any judgment. If we can come to terms with our ethnocentric views, we can quickly analyze the wrong
way of thinking. Therefore, we can try to understand the Nacirema culture through their shoes. If we
keep looking at their cultural in a primarily ethnocentric perspective, we would not have found the
similarities between the Nacirema culture and our own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nordstrom Organizational Culture
In the 1980 s business experts began to realize the root to organizational success or failure is through
its culture. The culture of an organization is the belief that guides each employee in knowing what to
do and what not to do and it also affect the public perception of the organization s brand. Therefore
culture is the shared social knowledge within an organization regarding the rules, norms and values
(Colquitt, Lepine, Wesson, 2012). Although, no two cultures are alike, there are components and
characteristics that help business experts to define an organization s culture.

A ritual generally contributes to the process of an organization. However, it does have symbolic role
which personifies the values of the organization. There are several rites and rituals that helps cultivate
Nordstrom s market and service culture.
Ex. 1: Recognizing and celebrating top sellers (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Ex. 2: Organizational leaders engage with employees by holding prep rallies (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Communication
The MNE reinforces their service culture by emphasizing excellent customer service in their employee
handbook a 5 ½ x 7 ½ card that states; Our number one goal is to provide outstanding customer
service, and for this they have only one rule: Use good judgment in all situations (Nordstrom, Inc,

is readily displayed in the employees break room. This chart also depicts another of Nordstrom s
philosophy, it empowers frontline employees by placing them at the top of the organizational pyramid.
This suggest that frontline employees have the freedom to create their own career paths and be

How Did Alexander The Great Influence Greek Culture
Alexander the Great played an important role in the spread and dominance of Greek culture across the
known world at the time. He was able to help spread the Greek culture he loved across the Persian
Empire while also go further than any other Greek. This involved the use of military force and great
diplomacy while conquering the empire. His first encounter with the Persians occurred at Granicus
River. The Macedonian victory at Granicus helped Alexander to continue his expedition. There are
few sources on the accounts of Alexander and his personal life and his conquest of the world. Three of
the main ancient sources come from Arrian, Diodorus, and Plutarch, however theses narratives were
written years after his life. As Paul Cartledge states, For this reason, and because Alexander soon
passed from the territory of factual history proper to the plane of myth and legend, the search for him
has been likened to that for the historical Jesus. Much was written about both men, but practically
nothing contemporary has survived, and very little indeed without a severely prejudiced axe to grind.

Oil Sands
In this essay I will use the social issue of oil sands and its impact on climate change to critically
compare the social order and class struggle perspectives in social theory. To examine the social order
perspective, I will use the theories of Robert Merton and Harold Garfinkel. For the class perspective
theory, I will use the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallenstein. The social order
perspective explains the social issue of climate change in terms of how the social structures of the
economy enforce and produce the ways in which people discuss climate change. Its main strength is
that it identifies how the economy is able to shape discussions and create a sense of order around the
opposing conflict of interest between the economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merton s theory derives from the fundamentalist perspective in which he defines manifest functions as
the easily recognizable and intended outcomes, whereas latent functions are unintended. Merton
argues the distinction between manifest and latent functions has significant value and that both
functions need to be recognized as an approach to explaining any social phenomena (Powell 2017:
Feb 15). Latent functions are not necessarily the anticipated outcome, however a closer examination
of this function can lead to a better understanding of a social relation or patterns observed (Longofer
Winchester, 2016). For instance, in applying the social issue of climate change to Merton s manifest
and latent theory, it is clear the manifest function of oil sands is for refineries to extract the oil to
produce fuel (energy source). As a result of increased reliance on oil sands as fuel, the process of
refining oil and clearing land to extract the oil from these oil sands, releases tons of pollution into the
atmosphere, creating the phenomena known as climate change. The perceived function of oil sands is
not to harmful to the environment, however; it becomes the negative consequence of the objective.
Although the manifest function does not recognize that the use of oil sands leads to an increased threat
of the environment, the latent function is able to identify the relationship. This latent function leads to
the reexamination of the use of oil sand and how our society collectively moves on about making
informed decisions regarding both the production and the rate at which we use

Developing Private Label Between China And Uk Essay
In recent years, due to the change of own profit model, high inflation, increasing operating costs and
competition from online commerce, traditional retail businesses have grown slowly in China. Chinese
retail business, especially supermarkets need to be transformed and updated. Developing private label
brands is one of the most efficient ways to realise supermarkets transition and updating, it could
reduce costs and improve supply chain system. However, the development of supermarket private
label in China is only in start up stage now which leaves plenty of scope to learn from mistakes and
successes from other businesses. The British retail market is the second largest in Europe, and has the
highest profit margins in the world. Its supermarket private label has developed into a mature stage
(Zhen, 2007). Since there are limited studies in the area of analysing the gap between British and
Chinese supermarket in developing private label, this study will help to stop the gap in literature study
of comparing the development of private label between China and UK. In addition, it may predict the
future developing trend of Chinese private label and benefit Chinese supermarket managers on how to
introduce more successful strategies of private label products in further development on the basis of
British experience.

Exploration of Portugal
Introduction
Portugal is one of the least tourist attracted locations in Europe, many people do vacation there but it
isn t as popular as most of the countries in Europe. This is so surprising due to the incredible charm
they have surrounding their country. In Portugal there are many rules and regulations to follow in your
everyday life. Your style and the way you present yourself in public is a big thing in Portugal, you will
usually see men wearing suit jackets, dress shirts and sometimes t shirts. Women wear dresses,
blouses, skirts and sometimes wear t shirts to, according to what the weather is like. Rain coats are
very highly recommended in Portugal, considering it has one of the highest rainfalls in all of Europe.
Considering it is located in Southwestern Europe and is the most western country mainland of Europe
I can see why. Portugal is mainly considered a warm climate, Mediterranean climate with a distinct
wet season in winter. During winter, Portugal undergoes a similar temperature pattern to the Spanish
coastal towns, otherwise know as the having an average temperature each day of about 16°C (61°F).

appropriately considering the time of day. In our culture, usually we greet our closer friends with
either a hug or a certain nickname, but in Portugal their greetings are more formal than that. Usually
women with their closer friends will kiss their cheek twice starting with the right then the left, and
guys will hug their closer friends and sometimes give them a handshake. American dinners are usually
informal and with paper plates and plastic silverware, but in Portugal there are very many different
table manners you must follow to be considered proper and

Chelmno Death Camp Research Paper
When someone thinks about the Holocaust, they think about the millions of Jews murdered at the
concentration and death camps. They think about how the Jews were forced to do manual labor for the
Nazis. Unfortunately, people overlook the Jews that did not get a chance to survive. Hundreds of
thousands of Jews lost their lives at Chelmno Death Camp. Chelmno was a small town just outside of
the city of Lodz ( Chelmno Extermination ) . Even though the city of Lodz was very close to
Chelmno, it was one of the last cities that the Nazis captured jews for their extermination. Chelmno

This is the first death camp where gas was used for murder on a large scale. Everything was set up by
Sonderkommando ( Cholmno Extermination ). The main reason for Chelmno was to eliminate most of
the Jews from Wartheland ( Chelmno. ). The Jews were notified that they could be sent to Austria or
somewhere else and that they would have good lives wherever they were sent. They were sent to take
baths so that they were clean and all of the things they had were taken away. The Jews were told they
had to get into a car to take them to the bath houses and once they were inside the car and it was
started, poisonous gas was released to exterminate the Jews ( Chelmno. ). After the Jews were gassed,
their bodies were put into a furnace and turned to ash. When someone had to take the ashes out of the
furnace, but they could not keep doing it because of the smoke and the fumes, they were killed.

Internship Analysis Paper
Analysis Key Issue My internship term at EPRA has gone by with minimal issues. I have genuinely
enjoyed working with all of my colleagues and the position itself has been interesting. I would say that
the largest issue facing EPRA as a whole would be the distrust on environmental initiatives that was
previously discussed. There has, however, been a prevailing issue with my job specifically. As
mentioned, the auditing department at EPRA is relatively new. Due to this, very few employees have
had to be trained as a compliance analyst in the past. To be specific, only six people (including the
four that are currently on the team) have had to learn the position. Included in the six are two

Causes Of The Strike Of 1877
The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 manifested into the first of a series of labor strikes in the United
States and the first general strike of the nation. Working on the railroads, labor workers already had
poor working conditions and low wages. However, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B O) had made
its second wage cut in the past eight months; both cuts by ten percent. In response to this, labor
workers refused to allow any freight trains to roll in and out of the station until the restoration of their
original wages. The railroad strikers included individuals from railroad workers to other labor
sympathizers alike. The Great Strike of 1877 succeeded for the labor economy because of the large
number of labor supporters, the overpowering of the militia, and the power of initiative from the
people. Several citizens supported the laborers because of the dangers their jobs came with and their
impact on the overall economy of the United States. The strikers refused to restart the trains, so the B
O company employed new men to restart the trains, however, the strikers immediately interfered.
When the police went to protect the new men, the strikers were, reinforced by a large body of citizens,
swelling the crowd till it reached the proportions of a large mob ( Serious Strike ). The citizens were
more willing to aid the strikers than the local police and militia. The locals agreed with the strikers
because they were willing to go against their own militia. According

The structure of the United States Government created by the founding fathers is a foundation that
holds the country together. It has gathered the trust of the American citizens and used it to make
decisions that make America a better nation. The government is made up of three main branches, the
Legislative branch, the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch. The branches are vital to America s

This is because the population of the United States has grown, and also because the viewpoints of
those populations has changed overtime as different generations come into power that have different
ideas for the country. When the government was first founded there was a population of 3,513,183
people in the United States. The government was formed to compensate the growth of the country, but
they stopped putting more people into the House when they reached 435 in 1917. If they had
continued putting representatives in for every 50,000 people as they were before there would be about
6,000 people in the House. The ratio used to be one representative for every 50,000 citizens, but now
it is one for every 710,676 citizen (Members of Congress Questions and Answers). This gives the
people less input because there are less representatives to state their opinions. Although more of the
representatives are more diverse both by gender and ethnicity.
When first created, the Legislative branch had a lot of power, as a result a system to keep the power in
check was created. no law or resolution can pass without agreement, first of the majority of the people
(via the House) and then of the States (represented by the Senate). This complicated Legislative may

To: Amanda Rico, Instructor: English 210 Section 581
From: Jared Glenn
Subject: MWP 2 Outline of Report Completion
Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide an outline of the topics I plan to conduct further research on
and compile that research in a formalized report over the specifics of those topics. The final result will
be a proposed program, backed with modern research sourcing, ready for completion.
Introduction
In reference to my last memo, I discussed plans to make alterations to Francis Hall, a newly renovated
building on the Texas A M Campus for the Construction Science Department and student. Specifically,
the first task is survey to compile major courses of action, followed by compiling a proposal in
conjunction with a general contractor for consideration by the Board of Regents. The original
renovation had a budget of 5 million dollars, which included classrooms, a computer lab, student
lounge, lavatories, and staff offices. The renovation is suitable for the current status of Construction
Science; however the growing program will soon outgrow the building. For these reasons, I am
writing a follow up memo of the topics to be included in my upcoming researched recommendation
report.
Tasks to be Researched
With approval to conduct research on my proposed tasks, I will begin by restating each task from the
original memo, followed by the subtasks I will research for each main task.

À la carte Product Development.
The concept of having re usable software and hardware components which can be used for product
developments have been in vogue for quite some time but in form of frameworks conforming to
different standards which need good learning time from their users perspective. À la carte Product
Development aims at having a single portal which can span across the lifecycle of product
development. The portal would have all the interactions and modules that can be made available as a
service.
The thought process aims to bring down new product development to something as simple as selecting
client interfacing UI pages, logging services, databases, cloud based hardware infrastructure, support
management workflows, weekly maintenance activities as simple services which can be selected from
a list in the dropdown of the menu at the À la carte Product Development portal . Once a confirmation
to avail these services in the product is entered, the hardware and software modules would auto
configure and export to produce a ready to deploy application.
The process of having loosely coupled hardware and software components help in making the
objective of robust scalability of products a

The Importance Of Employee Uniforms
Introduction Have you ever wondered why companies make their employees wear a specific uniform
or wear a specific style of pant and shirt? Well, there are many reasons why; one, the company may
use their uniform as part of their organization s colors. This allows the employee to feel they are part
of the organization and it allows the consumer to identify a company purely from the colors on a
uniform. Just within the past year, a sitcom television show called Superstore. Those who watch this
sitcom, quickly realizes how those who wrote the scripts and chose the actors clothing did so to poke
fun directly towards Wal Mart. Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos,
and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no
exception. Whether it is in a business setting, a restaurant, or even a doctor s office, a person s
perception towards another is determined by initial contact. Despite a single office or profession;
employers need to consider a dress code to ensure the safety of all employees. Moreover, some
employees do not direct a dress code as a way to save operational costs, while some provide the
employees with a shirt and the employee must wear a specific type and color of pant. Sure, the dress
code for employees can be unattractive, however, the employer is not paying the person to look good
or seek a partner. Employers need to explain the reason the companies uniforms are designed and

the self regulation. Self regulation means children follow the planning and focus on the attention.
Children can easily follow the rules themselves. Self regulation is the ability to control one s emotion,
actions (impulsivity), and thinking (focusing attention and planning) (Bullard, Page 27). This was seen

This case is about Paul Reed, a vice president and supervisor at Magic Eye, who is trying to
understand the reason his programmers in his firm, are not reaching their potential. For that matter,
Paul sought Muriel Tremblay, who is responsible for the personal to discover the issue. Muriel then
interviewed an employee named Jeannie Savaria who has worked for the company for over a year and
discovered that there had been some lack of motivation from Paul. According to Robbins, S. P. Judge,
(184). Motivation is the process that accounts for an individual s intensity, direction, and persistence
of effort towards attaining a goal. In this paper, I will use the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory to
explain Jeannine Savaria s motivation and what can her supervisor do to improve her motivation.
Savaria s motivation can be supported through the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory. This theory
links the performance of an individual effort to his motivation with the purpose of increasing
satisfaction and minimizing dissatisfaction. According to Vroom, the performance of an employee is
based on individual factors; personality, skills, knowledge, experience and abilities. The Vroom theory
accounts to three variables; Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valance.
Expectancy perceives effort that leads to performance. It acquires self efficacy, goal difficulty and
perceived control. Jeannine is aware of her exceptional technical abilities of

With lion and eagle symbols abound, it s safe to say that Gryphon s Gold is an offering from

Thrown Into A Fairytale
Back when the so called fairytale kingdom of Winalot was a kingdom of peace, players would
envisage gnomes relaxed on their prized mushrooms, as elegant, blonde young women dashed around
on unicorns. Yes, that statement reads just as ridiculous as it sounds. Gryphon s Gold really is odd in
theme, especially when you consider that this is a game that puts players into the shoes of a hero that
must rid the kingdom of evil gryphons. Being completely honest, seldom have we seen a developer
put something so barmy on show across 5 reels and 3 rows before.
Ruling The Kingdom Of Winalot
Winalot becomes a land of plenty for players from the very minute that they arrive. Start by rescuing
mushrooms and gnomes, as your heroic efforts can yield as many as 25,000 coins for such efforts.
Keeping the kingdom s palace invasion resistant can get you 40,000 coins, and atop that pile of loot
could be up to 75,000 coins if you can retrieve pretty maidens and unicorns as

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the

rules, regulations and policies that prevent. Individuality leads to a mess of chaos. To prevent disorder,

Mob Mentality In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The word Mob (in terms of sociology) is defined as a group of persons stimulating one another to
excitement and losing ordinary rational control over their activity ( Mob ). This definition simply
describes a group of people who were either directly or indirectly influenced by each other to do
something. Similarly, Mob Mentality can be defined as the mentality of people, when they are
indirectly motivated by another individual to do something. This slightly chaotic type of mentality, can
be both good and bad in different circumstances. Mob Mentality can be a positive occurrence if used
in an uplifting sense such as giving a standing applause to someone, but also hindering and distracting
if the action occuring is negative like a group of people lying in order to get someone in trouble. In the
drama, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a group of bewitched girls clearly demonstrate negative mob
mentality throughout the play. Towards the end of the play, one of the girls, Abigail, and the other girls
are in the courtroom with the characters Mary Warren, John Proctor, Judge Danforth, and a couple of
others. While trying to get Judge Danforth to believe the Mary is guilty of witchcraft, Abigail fakes an

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Singapore s National...
1. Explain the strengths and weaknesses of Singapore s national innovation system.
After gaining political independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore experienced a phase of rapid
industrialization based on export oriented manufacturing by foreign MNCs. The approach was to offer
MNCs favourable conditions to locate in Singapore, with a view to increase overall skills and
technological capabilities. Singapore sought to build its science and technology resources through the
transfer of manufacturing technologies embedded in MNCs and foreign direct investments (FDI). The
local skill base was also developed through learning by using techniques among workers and
technicians employed by these foreign MNCs. Thus Singapore followed a dependent ... Show more

One important issue is the relative underdevelopment in local technological and marketing capability.
The success of a national innovation system depends on the effectiveness of two things: (i) the
deployment of new technologies and (ii) the development or creation of new technologies. The
dependent strategy has led Singapore to focus more on the deployment and diffusion of technology by
leveraging on large foreign high tech MNCs, rather than fostering technological development by local
enterprises. The development of new technology in the MNC headquarters and its transfer to their
subsidiaries in Singapore has only been a major source of technological upgrading in Singapore, rather
than indigenous research and development. (Wong, 2000). According to Low (2000), the innovative
capacity and culture of Singapore had to be nourished, apart from the efforts of the government in
creating a conducive business environment
Developing the national innovation system using the dependent strategy can shift the government s
focus to creating more incentives for MNCs, rather than the domestic firms. Local small and medium
enterprises (SMEs) with some amount of entrepreneurial risk taking capabilities become
overshadowed by MNCs and Government Linked companies (GLCs). This creates a credibility gap
when obtaining financial assistance schemes. Efforts must be made to ensure that these private local
SMEs are not dwarfed by the MNCs and

Influence Of Popular Culture In The 1960s
Australian popular culture in the 1960s had multiple features, many of which were influenced by the
social changes and counter culture at the time. The primary aspects of Australian popular culture in the
1960s were; music, fashion, film, sport and television. In Australia, the fashion of the 1960s emulated
the political and cultural changes at the time. This fashion revolution was youth driven and showed
their rejection of social standards. For women, the mini skirt came into trend, introduced by fashion
icon Twiggy (Leslie Hornby). This above the knee skirt came into fashion in a revolt against people
telling women how to express themselves and their bodies that came with the womens rights
movement and the introduction of the pill. Men wore tunics, capes and more feminine clothing as
pants became tighter and they dawned silk scarfs. This shift from masculine clothing to dabbling in
the side of feminine, was because of the changing idea of gender and sexuality. Men also tried to
recreate the look of the Beatles; in sharp and clean suits due the bands popularity at the time. Nearing
the end of the 1960s, hippie fashion came into style. This era of fashion was dominated by bright,
swirling colours, tie dye, paisley prints, loose fitting clothing, flowers, peace signs, etc. This change in
fashion was in response to the Vietnam war. People wore their clothes as a political statement,
showing their embracement towards love and freedom. 1960s music in Australia was heavily

Historically, the waltz began as an Austrian peasant dance around the seventeenth century. Developing
in the eighteenth century, the waltz was accepted by the upper classes in France thereby increasing its
popularity. It was in these European dance halls that the three quarter rhythm became permanent.
More modifications to the waltz came nearing the end of the nineteenth century. At this point, the
dance had started gaining the interest on a global level travelling all the way to the United States
(Waltz Dance History). Two main modifications that appeared during this period were the Boston and

The concept of gender is rarely discussed in class because it is just how the dance is. Maybe because
of it s historical roots in an era where there was male superiority; or maybe it is just following societal
norms, but the waltz is very tenured for the male dancer. Part of the technique is described as lead and
follow. Men are referred to as leads while women are referred to as follows. I found it interesting to
take instructions and substitute the gender in place of lead and follow. For example, the instructor
described our roles saying, Leads, you must be in charge, while followers you must be submissive to
your lead. When substituted, the teacher basically said that men must take charge while women have
to be compliant to him. I was reassured by this when it came to the point in class where we were to try
to string together sequences. The followers were told to follow what the leads communicates to you
through the dance. By a push on the shoulder, the follows were told to spin. By the rotation of the men
s arms, the women knew to change the direction of travel. I thought this concept was interesting to

Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck
Have you ever wanted to pinch a babies chubby legs or cheeks? Phrases like You re so cute, I could
eat you up, or You re so fluffy I m gonna die, are expressions that individuals use in everyday life, but
do they genuinely want to eat someone, or die because they think they are cute and fluffy? Similarly,
why do individuals cry when exceedingly ecstatic, or laugh when nervous? In the popular literature
piece Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the main character Lennie loves his pet mouse so fully that
he pets it too hard and it dies (Steinbeck, 1994). In real life, majority of the individuals who
experience harmful urges do not actually inflict harm on the cute personal or animal, but the mere
thought or urge to do so is worth studying. Surprisingly, there is still not a huge deal of research on the
phenomena, however that is changing. These paradoxical impulses, like harming something enjoyable,
have recently been attaining spotlight in the psychological realm. Through the lens of evolutionary
psychology, it is easy to immediately think there is no adaptive purpose to harming something that
elicits positive emotions into one s life. Nonetheless, a handful of researchers have been suggesting an
actual adaptive purpose for these harmful urges exists. To begin, there is one particular study that
almost completely dominates this topic and will be the premise behind the connection of literature on

Freedom and the American Dream are both something that Americans stand and strive for in the
United States. For many it is a major part of our lives, for some more than others. When the American
Dream is asked to be explained or defined a common response is that it is an accomplishment of
wealth and prosperity through hard work and success, especially those living in the United States.
When searched, the American Dream is described as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
traditionally held to be available to every American (American Dream, Dictionary.com). This
description plays a major role as these are the goals that were set to come from the Civil Rights Act of
1964. Many fought for the right to be free especially when it came to racial inequality in our country
but many did not receive these benefits or opportunities of equality as there were negative and positive
effects that came directly from the Civil Rights Movement.
The first American slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.
Their job was to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco as the Virginians were desperate for
labor, to grow enough to stay alive... needed labor, to grow corn for subsistence, to grow tobacco for
export (Zinn 24,25). The slaves that were being brought to the Americas were seen as builders of the
economic foundations of the new nation and as time passed the ownership of slaves dwindled but
inequality and segregation grew to be more prevalent in the U.S ( Slavery in America ). On January
1st, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order which
freed slaves in the United States not within the Confederacy, under Union Control. Two years later the
13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery but many Southern States
managed to create unattainable prerequisites for blacks to live, work or participate in society. With
nearly one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans were still treated
just as unequally. Oppression, race inspired violence, segregation and an unequal world of
disenfranchisement lingered across Southern States for African Americans. The Jim Crow Laws

Forgiveness Vs. Condemnation In Dante Alighieri s The...
As the second part of Dante Alighieri s Divine Comedy, The Purgatorio serves as an allegorical bridge
between the two other works, much like Purgatory serves as a bridge into Heaven. Purgatory is
characterized by repentance as sinners here are given the chance to work towards redemption, as
opposed to Hell where sinners are punished for eternity with no hope for forgiveness. The idea of
forgiveness versus condemnation can be seen in the comparison of Cato and Virgil, a man forgiven
and a man condemned. Cato, like Virgil, died before the birth of Christ but repented in the final
moments of his life and was given a place in Purgatory, despite being a pagan and committing suicide.
Cato s story proves that choosing repentance is the key and Virgil, ... Show more content on

The psychological implications of nature versus nurture in one s later life and development have been
contested for years, and I have a tendency to stick very close to the middle; I believe Dante would as
well. He gives a very clear answer as to whose responsibility it is (our own) to make decisions and
gain entrance into Purgatory, while also making some concessions for circumstance and nature, for
Virgil says the only road I could have taken was the road I took, (I 62 63) emphasising how he was
constrained by the options available. But this constrainment does not, in any way, alleviate the
responsibility we have for our own souls, but instead teaches us that we should act the best we can,
given our lives and histories, in order to be the most virtuous people we can be. The view is also
somewhat more forgiving than other interpretations, as it is always possible to return to the path and
Goodness has arms so wide that It accepts whoever would return (III 122 123). This belief in
redemption mimics my own belief in the human ability to change and become better than we were
before by choice. Dante repeatedly states that we must chose the path of goodness for ourselves and
can be guided but never forced, something I agree with wholeheartedly, for is a forced repentance
really repentance at all? The discussion of the afterlives of Cato and Virgil show the importance of
choice, given Cato s

Evil In Plato s The Republic
In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as
kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core of
human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and continuing
their bloodline. Plato s take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a Philosopher
King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to conceive in real
life. The notion that philosophy is the most important asset that a person can take advantage of is
grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being rooted in Greek
philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the sheer number of
people on this planet, as well as accounting the selfish nature of humans in general it is illogical to
suggest that evil can be vanquished from within society. Plato even acknowledges his claim to be

This is because it does not matter where and what situation a person is placed in, they will always look
out for number one. Such behaviour leaves nobody at fault necessarily, it is human nature to flaunt
their possessions both to attract mates and to establish dominance over one another. This can be seen
in the extravagant demeanor that people exhibit in an attempt to attract attention, such as B list
celebrities performing spectacular stunts when the media s focus on them is wading, thus generating
more hubbub over that person, leaving them in a state of euphoria over the eyes gleaned upon

Modern Day Improvements to Prosthetic Limbs
Prosthetic limbs have been around for centuries, but what is one thing they all have in common? They
have all been a nuisance. In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new
heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of
prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t
feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the
amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now
have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these
prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees
really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able
to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that
all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect
prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source
that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still
functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their
prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. I believe this has not

Johnny Appleseed Essay
The legend of Johnny Appleseed developed from the historical account of John Chapman because the
two characters have many similarities in their traits and their journey. Basically, Johnny Appleseed and
Jonathan Chapman are the same people, but the legend exaggerates his character traits, and the
historical accounts state the facts about him. In both accounts, he is very religious because he has his
Bible, which shows Christian belief, with him. The two people also plant apple trees throughout the
frontiers of America. Johnny Appleseed/John Chapman endured many hardships, but Johnny
Appleseed endured more difficulties than John Chapman. Therefore, the legend of Johnny Appleseed
is an exaggeration of the historical account of John Chapman.

Each year, he traveled hundreds of miles on foot wearing a coffee sack with holes cut out for arms and
carrying a cooking pot, which he is said to have worn like a cap over his flowing hair. This quote is
from the historical account of John Chapman. He encountered many hardships in his journey to the
frontiers of America. Summer and winter he wore only a burlap sack cut with armholes and a cooking
pot as a hat... He slept outdoors and ate only meals of bread and milk so as not to harm any creature in
the pursuit of food. Even those nights when a frontier family took him in, he refused a bed in favor of
the floor and requested only porridge to eat. He carried no weapons and he wore no shoes. Folks
marveled at his ability to walk barefoot through snow and brambles without pain. Once, they say, a
venomous snake failed to bite Johnny s foot because his skin was tough as leather. This quote is from
the legend of Johnny Appleseed, and it shows all of the hardships John Chapman faced, and much
more. This shows that the makers of the legend of Johnny Appleseed used the real John Chapman s
hardship and endurance as well as adding more hardships to make the legend more entertaining. John
Chapman also wore a burlap sack and a cooking pot as a hat, as described in the historical text, but he
didn t do the other things listed above. Therefore, people like to hear Johnny Appleseed more than

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Kamkwamba was born in a family of relative poverty and relied primarily on farming to survive.
According to his biography, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, his father had been a rough fighting
man who changed after discovering the Christian God. A crippling famine forced Kamkwamba to drop
out of school, and he was not able to return to school because his family was unable to afford the
tuition fees. In a desperate attempt to retain his education, Kamkwamba began to frequent the library.

local library where Kamkwamba discovered his true love for electronics. Before, he had once set up a
small business repairing his village s radios, but his work with the radios had been cheap.
Kamkwamba, after some thought about a bicycle dynamo, his fondness for radios, and the wind levels
at his home, decided to create a makeshift windmill. He experimented with a small model using a
cheap dynamo and, using this experience, eventually made a functioning windmill that powered some
electrical appliances in his family s house. Local farmers and journalists investigated the spinning
device and Kamkwamba s fame in international news skyrocketed. A blog about his accomplishments
was written on Hacktivate and Kamkwamba took part in the first event celebrating his particular type
of ingenuity called Maker Faire Africa, in Ghana in August 2009.[2]Kamkwamba was born in a family

Analysis Of Mrs Warrens Profession
The play Mrs. Warrens Profession by George Bernard Shaw is about a well educated young woman
named Vivie who lives just outside of London. She was raised in a drastically different manner than
her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious
schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get
a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the
morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens
profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The
play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London
to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into
question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to
make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her
morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. Shaw was known to be interested
in socialism and would write his works to reflect the views he wished to push into society. The play
Mrs. Warrens Profession has many tones of morality involved in the text. The discussions and
decisions of the characters in the play are all about the morality based on each individual s

Effect Of Smartphones On Advertising Dr. Fusani Zack Mineo Spring 2016 The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.( 2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic ). As the number of users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones have dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we can understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it will further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is? Background of advertising Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the goal of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik Advertising is any form of nonpersonal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, and services, usually paid for by an identified sponsor. (Dominick 350). The first appearance of advertising on radio dates back to 1922 when the Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to commend living in country lots from Queensboro Realty. (Dominick 179). Since then advertising has grown rapidly especially during the time of the depression and World War II. President Franklin D Roosevelt wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Watching a Movie at Home vs. Theater Essay example Movies are one of the biggest entertainment sources for anyone in the world, and for the same reason film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies per year than any other country. People watch movies at home on their television or in the theaters on a big screen where the film is been displayed with a movie projector onto a large projection screen at the front of the auditorium. Watching a movie at home or in theater is an enjoyable experience for everyone depending on personal preferences. In a theater, one can watch movies as soon as they are released without having to wait until they are released on a DVD or shown on a local television channel. At the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be easier for parents to exercise their control over children if they are watching a movie at home. If a movie scene is not appropriate for a child, then they have the choice of fast forwarding it or stopping the movie whereas one does not have that choice in the theater. Movie theaters make it more difficult on parent s pockets by having a huge variety and display of goodies for children. The food items are overly priced in a theater and that could be a big dent in the pocket if added on to the price of entrance ticket. Some theaters give people and option to go movie hopping where one can see as many movies with one theater entrance purchase. This is very economical for people who wait for all their favorite movies to accumulate and watch all of them together in day. This is difficult to do if one wants to wait for the television channels to telecast them. There is a broad variety of types of theaters available conventional theaters, IMAX and drive in s. Going to a theater is a good change for a person in contrast to watching it at home. Theaters are a popular dating spot for person any age. • 5. Environmental Education And The Urban Challenges The topic I propose to develop my research in is environmental education and the urban challenges it faces. The urgency of the current state of the environmental agenda makes it necessary to promote environmental awareness in all generations as indispensable for a sustainable future. Despite this, environmental education is still absent in most school programs and struggles to compete with formal education when in fact they should be one and the same. Efforts to change this have been recorded and so I propose to review literature on the topic. First, the literature research will approach definition of environmental education as well as education for sustainable development and definition and understanding of urban environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the current situation and context surrounding that topic? You should overview the general subject area (and, where possible, the theoretical foundation as reported in published work) and identify, in relation to the relevant reading you will have covered, a general problem that you can tackle in your research.] Sustainable development interconnects with the economic growth, nature conservation and the concept of equality for all. Environmental education is a complex and dynamic field, and so, a difficult one to assess. But given the urgency of the topic, its evaluation and better understanding may provide us with the tools necessary to pursue sustainability. My primary motivation for the research resides in the importance of sustainability as a vital practice for the future. The best way to do this is through the spreading of knowledge and improvement of education and learning and find what can be done to enhance it. I find that it is necessary to understand the history and implementation of environmental education. The use of the term environmental education itself is not considered relevant, especially due to the fact that there is little agreement on it. Different authors have different opinions, such as Disinger (1993), Wheeler (1985) and Sterling (1992). It is considered important, however, the actors in the history of events that sought out for the need for an education for sustainable development. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Blitz In Graham Greene s The Destructors Sumi Sunny ENG 274 OL Dr. Marilyn Johnson 24 October 2017 Major Paper Graham Greene wrote The Destructors which is about a group of boys who destroys Mr. Thomas s house. The story takes place after WWII and explains that Germany demolished London. There are two things that the story connects to the history of London; one is when Germany attacks London. The attack was known as The Blitz and shows how much damage Germany has caused London. Another connection is the movement of the Teddy Boys. The story took place after nine years when the war ended, and the Teddy Boys movement began around the 1950s. They were known as rebels and had a reputation for violence. Thus the society blamed the Teddy Boys for many of society s ill in the 1950s. The history of the Blitz shows how the boys are affected and this is connected to them because they tend to be rebels and what their response to the world around them. Graham Greene s The Destructors explained that young people have no hope and promises and challenges the traditional expectations of them, by showing them to be incapable of finding something practical in the world around them and within themselves. The enforcement of the Volstead Act in the United States of America (USA) saw the nationwide beginning of the prohibition on the 16th of January 1920. The Prohibition brought about a change in attitude for the people of the United States (USA). It caused an extreme rise in crime; encouraging everyday people to break the law and increased the amount of liquor that was consumed nationwide. The drinking of alcoholic beverages became an act of rebellion against authority from the beginning of Prohibition, especially among university students and flappers. Alcohol consumption did increase over Prohibition years, $40 million of liquor had been smuggled into the United States in 1924 alone and that did not include the amount of alcohol which people made illegally in their own homes, which was most likely consumed that same year as well. There was a decrease in the consumption of beer, because it had to be transported in large quantities, which made the substance difficult to hide, as a result prices of beer and other alcoholic substances which had to be transported in such large quantities skyrocketed. Once this had happened people began to turn to the more concentrated forms of alcohol or hard liquors , which were a lot easier to transport and as a consequence they were cheaper. Due to the increase in consumption of more concentrated forms of alcohol, people got drunk much faster than in pre prohibition years. Consequently there were more alcohol related deaths during the Prohibition, due to a rise in alcohol consumption, as people were being poisoned by alcohol that was highly concentrated and or poisoned. Deaths from poisoned liquor rose from 1,064 in 1920 to 4,154 in 1925. There are many views as to why the Prohibition failed. One of the main reasons was due to the fact that a law can not be ... Analyze The Values Of American Society The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more disadvantages than advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of agreement on most of the values considered American could be detrimental to the country and as an international power. Most American values revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a goal. Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are all values considered the focus of most Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating the competition, one can acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can push a nation forward economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources are wasted, foreign relations are strained, and many within the country are left struggling. Capitalism is moral and practical as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and act productively to sustain one s life and experience happiness on earth. In macroeconomic terms, capitalism is the best system available and the system America has always used. Reading the article, we must pull away from our ethnocentric views and think critically about the Nacirema people s. However, the description of the culture creates an ideology that is hard to agree with. For example, the Nacirema peoples take part in a rite that involves hog hairs and magical powders. The Nacirema rituals do sound strange and displeasing but, we have to learn to recognize our ethnocentric judgments. An anthropologist will try to read and understand the Nacirema culture with the notion of being culturally relative. With this way of thinking in mind, we could study the Nacirema peoples without any judgment. If we can come to terms with our ethnocentric views, we can quickly analyze the wrong way of thinking. He was able to help spread the Greek culture he loved across the Persian Empire while also go further than any other Greek. This involved the use of military force and great diplomacy while conquering the empire. His first encounter with the Persians occurred at Granicus River. Three of the main ancient sources come from Arrian, Diodorus, and Plutarch, however theses narratives were written years after his life. To examine the social order perspective, I will use the theories of Robert Merton and Harold Garfinkel. For the class perspective theory, I will use the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallenstein. The social order perspective explains the social issue of climate change in terms of how the social structures of the economy enforce and produce the ways in which people discuss climate change. Its main strength is that it identifies how the economy is able to shape discussions and create a sense of order around the opposing conflict of interest between the economy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Merton s theory derives from the fundamentalist perspective in which he defines manifest functions as the easily recognizable and intended outcomes, whereas latent functions are unintended. Merton argues the distinction between manifest and latent functions has significant value and that both functions need to be recognized as an approach to explaining any social phenomena (Powell 2017: Feb 15). Latent functions are not necessarily the anticipated outcome, however a closer examination of this function can lead to a better understanding of a social relation or patterns observed (Longofer Winchester, 2016). For instance, in applying the social issue of climate change to Merton s manifest and latent theory, it is clear the manifest function of oil sands is for refineries to extract the oil to produce fuel (energy source). As a result of increased reliance on oil sands as fuel, the process of refining oil and clearing land to extract the oil from these oil sands, releases tons of pollution into the atmosphere, creating the phenomena known as climate change. The perceived function of oil sands is not to harmful to the environment, however; it becomes the negative consequence of the objective. Although the manifest function does not recognize that the use of oil sands leads to an increased threat of the environment, the latent function is able to identify the relationship. This latent function leads to the reexamination of the use of oil sand and how our society collectively moves on about making informed decisions regarding both the production and the rate at which we use ... • 25. Causes Of The Strike Of 1877 The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 manifested into the first of a series of labor strikes in the United States and the first general strike of the nation. Working on the railroads, labor workers already had poor working conditions and low wages. However, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B O) had made its second wage cut in the past eight months; both cuts by ten percent. In response to this, labor workers refused to allow any freight trains to roll in and out of the station until the restoration of their original wages. The railroad strikers included individuals from railroad workers to other labor sympathizers alike. The Great Strike of 1877 succeeded for the labor economy because of the large number of labor supporters, the overpowering of the militia, and the power of initiative from the people. Several citizens supported the laborers because of the dangers their jobs came with and their impact on the overall economy of the United States. The strikers refused to restart the trains, so the B O company employed new men to restart the trains, however, the strikers immediately interfered. When the police went to protect the new men, the strikers were, reinforced by a large body of citizens, swelling the crowd till it reached the proportions of a large mob ( Serious Strike ). The citizens were more willing to aid the strikers than the local police and militia. The locals agreed with the strikers because they were willing to go against their own militia. According ... Mob Mentality In The Crucible By Arthur Miller The word Mob (in terms of sociology) is defined as a group of persons stimulating one another to excitement and losing ordinary rational control over their activity ( Mob ). Similarly, Mob Mentality can be defined as the mentality of people, when they are indirectly motivated by another individual to do something. This slightly chaotic type of mentality, can be both good and bad in different circumstances. Mob Mentality can be a positive occurrence if used in an uplifting sense such as giving a standing applause to someone, but also hindering and distracting if the action occuring is negative like a group of people lying in order to get someone in trouble. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One important issue is the relative underdevelopment in local technological and marketing capability. The success of a national innovation system depends on the effectiveness of two things: (i) the deployment of new technologies and (ii) the development or creation of new technologies. The development of new technology in the MNC headquarters and its transfer to their subsidiaries in Singapore has only been a major source of technological upgrading in Singapore, rather than indigenous research and development. When substituted, the teacher basically said that men must take charge while women have to be compliant to him. I was reassured by this when it came to the point in class where we were to try to string together sequences. The followers were told to follow what the leads communicates to you through the dance. By a push on the shoulder, the follows were told to spin. By the rotation of the men s arms, the women knew to change the direction of travel. I thought this concept was interesting to link to a dance that seemed to be so pure and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Of Mice And Men By John Steinbeck Have you ever wanted to pinch a babies chubby legs or cheeks? Phrases like You re so cute, I could eat you up, or You re so fluffy I m gonna die, are expressions that individuals use in everyday life, but do they genuinely want to eat someone, or die because they think they are cute and fluffy? Similarly, why do individuals cry when exceedingly ecstatic, or laugh when nervous? In the popular literature piece Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the main character Lennie loves his pet mouse so fully that he pets it too hard and it dies (Steinbeck, 1994). In real life, majority of the individuals who experience harmful urges do not actually inflict harm on the cute personal or animal, but the mere thought or urge to do so is worth studying. Surprisingly, there is still not a huge deal of research on the phenomena, however that is changing. These paradoxical impulses, like harming something enjoyable, have recently been attaining spotlight in the psychological realm. Through the lens of evolutionary psychology, it is easy to immediately think there is no adaptive purpose to harming something that elicits positive emotions into one s life. Nonetheless, a handful of researchers have been suggesting an actual adaptive purpose for these harmful urges exists. To begin, there is one particular study that almost completely dominates this topic and will be the premise behind the connection of literature on this fascinating topic. A research team at Yale University conducted a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Impact Of Freedom And The American Dream Freedom and the American Dream are both something that Americans stand and strive for in the United States. For many it is a major part of our lives, for some more than others. When the American Dream is asked to be explained or defined a common response is that it is an accomplishment of wealth and prosperity through hard work and success, especially those living in the United States. When searched, the American Dream is described as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American (American Dream, Dictionary.com). This description plays a major role as these are the goals that were set to come from the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Many fought for the right to be free especially when it came to racial inequality in our country but many did not receive these benefits or opportunities of equality as there were negative and positive effects that came directly from the Civil Rights Movement. The first American slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1619. Their job was to aid in the production of crops such as tobacco as the Virginians were desperate for labor, to grow enough to stay alive... needed labor, to grow corn for subsistence, to grow tobacco for export (Zinn 24,25). The slaves that were being brought to the Americas were seen as builders of the economic foundations of the new nation and as time passed the ownership of slaves dwindled but inequality and segregation grew to be more prevalent in the U.S ( Slavery in America ). On January 1st, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, an executive order which freed slaves in the United States not within the Confederacy, under Union Control. Two years later the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which abolished slavery but many Southern States managed to create unattainable prerequisites for blacks to live, work or participate in society. With nearly one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation, African Americans were still treated just as unequally. Oppression, race inspired violence, segregation and an unequal world of disenfranchisement lingered across Southern States for African Americans. The Jim Crow Laws ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Forgiveness Vs. Condemnation In Dante Alighieri s The... As the second part of Dante Alighieri s Divine Comedy, The Purgatorio serves as an allegorical bridge between the two other works, much like Purgatory serves as a bridge into Heaven. Purgatory is characterized by repentance as sinners here are given the chance to work towards redemption, as opposed to Hell where sinners are punished for eternity with no hope for forgiveness. The idea of forgiveness versus condemnation can be seen in the comparison of Cato and Virgil, a man forgiven and a man condemned. Cato, like Virgil, died before the birth of Christ but repented in the final moments of his life and was given a place in Purgatory, despite being a pagan and committing suicide. Cato s story proves that choosing repentance is the key and Virgil, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The psychological implications of nature versus nurture in one s later life and development have been contested for years, and I have a tendency to stick very close to the middle; I believe Dante would as well. He gives a very clear answer as to whose responsibility it is (our own) to make decisions and gain entrance into Purgatory, while also making some concessions for circumstance and nature, for Virgil says the only road I could have taken was the road I took, (I 62 63) emphasising how he was constrained by the options available. But this constrainment does not, in any way, alleviate the responsibility we have for our own souls, but instead teaches us that we should act the best we can, given our lives and histories, in order to be the most virtuous people we can be. The view is also somewhat more forgiving than other interpretations, as it is always possible to return to the path and Goodness has arms so wide that It accepts whoever would return (III 122 123). This belief in redemption mimics my own belief in the human ability to change and become better than we were before by choice. Dante repeatedly states that we must chose the path of goodness for ourselves and can be guided but never forced, something I agree with wholeheartedly, for is a forced repentance really repentance at all? The discussion of the afterlives of Cato and Virgil show the importance of choice, given Cato s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Evil In Plato s The Republic In The Republic Plato suggests that unless kings rule as philosophers or that philosophers rule as kings, there will always be evil, which is a logical fallacy that does not take into account the core of human nature, of which is to preserve oneself solely for the purpose of reproducing and continuing their bloodline. Plato s take on a perfect city without evil by cause of it being ruled by a Philosopher King is an idea that makes absolute sense on paper, but would be irrational to try to conceive in real life. The notion that philosophy is the most important asset that a person can take advantage of is grounded and logical and holds true as a result of many modern day beliefs being rooted in Greek philosophy thus forming how people think and behave today, however due to the sheer number of people on this planet, as well as accounting the selfish nature of humans in general it is illogical to suggest that evil can be vanquished from within society. • 45. Modern Day Improvements to Prosthetic Limbs Prosthetic limbs have been around for centuries, but what is one thing they all have in common? They have all been a nuisance. In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. Summer and winter he wore only a burlap sack cut with armholes and a cooking pot as a hat... He slept outdoors and ate only meals of bread and milk so as not to harm any creature in the pursuit of food. Even those nights when a frontier family took him in, he refused a bed in favor of the floor and requested only porridge to eat. He carried no weapons and he wore no shoes. Folks marveled at his ability to walk barefoot through snow and brambles without pain. Once, they say, a venomous snake failed to bite Johnny s foot because his skin was tough as leather. This quote is from the legend of Johnny Appleseed, and it shows all of the hardships John Chapman faced, and much more. This shows that the makers of the legend of Johnny Appleseed used the real John Chapman s hardship and endurance as well as adding more hardships to make the legend more entertaining. Kamkwamba, after some thought about a bicycle dynamo, his fondness for radios, and the wind levels at his home, decided to create a makeshift windmill. • 49. Analysis Of Mrs Warrens Profession The play Mrs. Warrens Profession by George Bernard Shaw is about a well educated young woman named Vivie who lives just outside of London. She was raised in a drastically different manner than her mother. Vivie in fact did not know her mother very well and even grew up away at prestigious schools away from her mother s care. Vivie was well educated, has a degree in math, and plans to get a job in London. The play is centered on the discussion between Vivie and Mrs. Warren about the morality about Mrs. Warren s profession as a sex worker. Although the play is called Mrs. Warrens profession, the play is mostly about the ways that Vivie s interactions with her mother change her. The play opens with Vivie sitting on her porch and being informed that her mother is coming from London to visit her. Vivie s upbringing was different from her mother in such a drastic way and it calls into question the morality of the decisions that Mrs. Warren made in her earlier years. Mrs. Warren had to make a decision in her earlier years that was morally wrong for most but she made it because her morals were outweighed by the circumstances in which she was in. Shaw was known to be interested in socialism and would write his works to reflect the views he wished to push into society. The play Mrs. Warrens Profession has many tones of morality involved in the text. The discussions and decisions of the characters in the play are all about the morality based on each individual s ...
