2. Conventions
• I followed the conventions of other
professional magazines that might aid me in
finding ways to increase my audience.
• I analysed existing indie/rock magazines such
as Kerrang!, Q magazine, NME and more.
• In addition, I also did some first hand research
by running a survey. The results from my
survey led me to decide on my convention
choices for my magazine pages. I was able to
get an idea of what people would expect from
my magazine.
3. Language
• For my indie/rock magazine, because it is aimed
at young men and women (mainly), I had
gathered from the magazines that I read, they
used colloquial and standard english. The
colloquialism made it more direct to the readers
which was proven to be pretty successful. This
made me want to include it into my magazine.
• I also noticed their frequent use of humour or
shocking imagery. This led me to include puns in
some of my writing.
