The document discusses what the author has learned from audience feedback during their film project. They conducted several surveys to better understand their target audience's preferences in genres, ways of viewing films, and what they would expect from a film trailer. The feedback helped the author choose a hybrid genre for their film and shape the film trailer. Posting drafts on social media allowed the audience to provide useful feedback that improved the final products. The author concluded that audience research is essential for creating media that will appeal to target viewers.
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
1. EVALUATION THREE: What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
Throughout the process, I have required audience feedback so that I
can ensure that the product I am making is suitable for the target
audience. I started off with a survey asking what genre of film they
like the best. From this survey, I found out that everyone has
different tastes of film and this was shown by some unexpected
results when it came to analysis. It has come apparent to me during
the process that the audience is what makes the film happen.
Without the research being done, you run the risk of the audience
not liking what you have created therefore not watching the film.
Independent film producers and directors have to make sure the
research is sufficient as their risk is much higher than institutions in
the big six as they have more money to play with than the
independent companies.
From my first survey, it was clear that there were many varieties of
interests from the
people that answered
my survey. It also was
apparent that the
majority of people
who answered the
survey had multiple
interests which gave
me more freedom as it allowed me to be open to the possibility of
creating a film with a ‘hybrid genre’ which I did end up doing.
The second survey I created was looking at how audiences receive
film. If this was to be a professional project, there would be people
thinking about how to distribute the film in the future in order for
the intended audience to see it. These results showed me that DVDs
and going to the cinema were still the easiest way for people to
2. watch films but with the rise of new
media technologies such as the
internet, there will come a time where
films will be primarily distributed via
the internet for the audience to see.
The final survey that I published was to
find out what
people would like
and/or expect to see in a film trailer. From this
survey, I gathered all the respondents’ views on
romantic drama films and the responses helped
me start the planning process of the trailer.
After the construction of the trailer, I posted the
trailer on Facebook to gain opinions on what I
had produced and whether any improvements
could be made to it to make the trailer any
better. The comments I received were mainly positive which shows
how my research was thorough and detailed enough to make the
product. Audience feedback at this stage was important because it
allowed me to step back and let the audience notice some faults
where I had failed to spot. This happened on a couple of occasions
which is why it is important complete a draft version of the trailer for
the target audience to look at and pick up on any faults which can
then be created for the final trailer.

5. After I completed my ancillary tasks, I once again published them to
Facebook to gain some feedback and it was all positive. This shows
that the audience were happy with the product.
6. Overall, I can conclude that the audience feedback that I got was
pivotal to my final products. This project has made me realise how
audience is really important to the makings of film to the film
industry and I have realised that every little thing you do when
