Presentation Plan
There are certain things I must consider when planning on my presentationprocess
for this project. Obviously, the presentation must be relevant and compatible with
video showcase,I already have a few ideas. Furthermore, I must consider my
audience and how they will find my work. I made this work, with a certain audience
in mind but with presenting it, it is important to me that the work reaches an
audience beyond the one I made the film for. This beyond audience can be found
beyond the comfort of what I used to with presenting my work and beyond what
they're comfortable with watching. This could cause an unhealthy clash of taste, as
for some, the film might not work – especially when you consider what they're
used to watching and how that plays comfortably to them – they don’t have to
think much, know much or bring much.
I have come to a few suggestions,one of them being showcasing the film on
YouTube and submitting the film to film festivals. Additionally, I will use social
medias to help boost the films relevance.
Instagram
At the beginning of the projectI created an Instagramaccountfor my film, in the hopes to promoteit fromday one by building interestand
people areawareof the films existence months beforeany kind firstimage or release date. I posted BTS pics when we wrapped production, the
audition call, sneak peaks of the script. I also used the story featureto record shortvideos of when we were on set – which are saved in the
highlights section. This is a useful way of communicating information about the film all in one place. This also gavean outlet for the actors to
turn to, sharing announcements on their personalaccounts making the audience reach further, it helped grow the followers of the page too. Of
course, I did this in hopes of reaching moreof audience and making new and old audiences awareof the film. Instagramis usefultool, I used
hashtags in someof my posts to extend the reach of the post, as I mentioned the people involved with the film shared it across their social
media. I also created a hashtag for the film '#InsomniacsThatGoBangInTheNight'so all the posts with that hashtag will be grouped together.
While Instagramis massive, it's easy to get into a small niche corner of the service. It's a useful way to sharephotos and videos, to build 'hype'
and interest around the film. I shared the trailer on the account, thereforepeople could shareit easily and watch it easily. I havealso been able
to sharemy work on the accountsuch as the trailer I made and official stills fromthe film. Thankfully over the courseof the account being
active it has gained up 60+ followers which isn'thuge but it's a good number and morethan whatI was expecting.
YouTube
The main presentation goal of doing a live premiere (with a livechat) of the film on my YouTube channel with 1.7K subscribers. I broughtthis audiences' attention
over to the InsomniacsInstagramaccount, they awareof it and anticipating the release. Oncethe live premiere hasconcluded, straightafter that I will engage in a
live QnA for the film, to continue the discourse and to engage the audience further wherewe can discuss thefilm. This will help me understand whatthe audience
really thinks – I can ask them questions too, furthering my evaluation of my success of the project. YouTube is a greatspace to sharecreative work and connect
with other filmmakers alike. I am fortunate enough to have already connected with various filmmakers and film lovers online through my YouTube channel, I
already have a certain circle of people who know me as a filmmaker and supportme with feedback. As with YouTube it does givepeople the option to comment, an
outlet for feedback and discussions of thefilm and during the live premiere, there is a live chat in which I will be moderating. I feel the live premierefeature is very
exciting way of presenting work. If you createthe premiereearly it comes up as a preview for people to see and the live chat is open. There is a countdown as well,
which gets everyoneexcited. Italso gives me a nice idea of peoples reactions to certain scenes, if they decide to comment in moment, which often somepeople
do. With having experience with this in the pastI'mable to confidently say this is an effectiveand usefulway of presenting my film to a wider audience. Once the
premiere has concluded the film will remain on my channel as a YouTube'video'. Over the courseof many months my films can amass impressiveviews with some
of my films having thousands of views. I know thatmostof my target audience will be watching the film fromYouTubeas it isthe most accessibleplatformto do so.
This audience consists of an existing one that I haveengaged with before(YouTubechannel audience) and new people, to bringin new people to a film with certain
genres and themes I will tag my film on YouTubeappropriately and sharewith relevantsources and people. While YouTube is sobig it is easy to get lost in the ocean
of content, thankfully due to my existing channel with an audience it will be found easily and will hopefully go into YouTubealgorithm to be recommended to more
people. The only problem I can see with this routeof presentation is the unpredictability of the audience showing up for thelive broadcast, the time I choosefor
said broadcastwillhave to be one whereI know people will be free to watch and this time will have to be well promoted so people areawarefor when to tune in.
Letterboxd
Letterboxd is a service in which you can rate and review films, it’s very popular. By adding my own films onto the service this enables me to get
consistentfeedback with star ratings. It's another element to my presentation as I will encouragepeople to use Letterboxd to review my film
rather than a YouTube comment as if the review is good, everyonewho is following the person who left the good review may be intrigued to go
watch my film after reading the good review, reading the synopsis, watching thetrailer which they can access through Letterboxd – this person
is a potential new audience that will watch my film and in turn, give feedback. People can judge for themselves the genreof the film and the
themes beforethey watch the film through its appearanceon Letterboxd going through peoples opinions etc. On another effortto build
interest in the film I gaveearly access to four trusted critics of my work, for themto review the film and for me to use their quotes in the trailer.
I picked these people as in the pastthey havegiven me deep, comprehensivereviews of my work. They know meas a filmmaker, they've
followed my filmmaking journey as their opinions will hold moreweight, for me as someonewho wants to constantly improveand for others
to understand more. I also hoped they'd give me a positive review. These early positivereviews will hopefully get people moreexited to watch
the film, if they read these reviews and they read something interesting about it that could causethem watch the film. The only issue with this
strategy is new people might not know whereto find the film. On my own Letterboxd accountI shall 'review' the film, simply stating it's release
and providing a link to the film. And as I spokeof earlier, the trailer can be accessed via Letterboxd and if its anyonewho is curious, if they click
on the channel that is the samechannel in which the film is public on.
Films Festivals
Finally, another way to further the audience reach of my film is to submitit to various film festivals. This will help myself as a filmmaker as if my
film gets selected into a festivalthat is an achievement within itself and of courseif it wins anything that would be huge for me and for the
everyoneinvolved. Bringing the film to the festivals gives a much moreserious tone rather than being 'dumped' on YouTube for only 10 people
to watch. Having that professionalismof the film being in an official film festivalwill givethe film more of a purpose, a life and will allow me to
connect with other filmmakers and receivevalued feedback. I looked on the BFIs officiallist of UK film festivals for young people, this will help
narrow down themost appropriatefestival, my film won'tbe going up againstthousands of pounds budgeted films – it will level the playing
field. Another benefit of being selected into a festival, it will boostthe interest on the film even more, I will be able to promote it on the
Instagramaccount. I already havean accountset-up for film freeway, thestandard websiteused for submitting films into festivals. Lastyear I
entered my film A Conversation into various festivals, ended up not getting selected. There needs to be a certain type of quality consistency for
any film to get selected. As spokeabout the missteps of that film in my evaluation and the feedback I'vehad so far on this film seems to
indicate that I'veimproved and certainly ready to progress into the festivalcircle. The only problems I can see are the requirements for
submitting my film. Mostfestivals prefer shortshorts, as in 3-5 mins max. My film boarders on 20 minutes, this could be a problems. Itwill shut
me out of many potential festivals, this might be something to consider when making my next film in conjunction with entering it into film
festivals.

  • 2. Presentation Plan There are certain things I must consider when planning on my presentationprocess for this project. Obviously, the presentation must be relevant and compatible with video showcase,I already have a few ideas. Furthermore, I must consider my audience and how they will find my work. I made this work, with a certain audience in mind but with presenting it, it is important to me that the work reaches an audience beyond the one I made the film for. This beyond audience can be found beyond the comfort of what I used to with presenting my work and beyond what they're comfortable with watching. This could cause an unhealthy clash of taste, as for some, the film might not work – especially when you consider what they're used to watching and how that plays comfortably to them – they don’t have to think much, know much or bring much. I have come to a few suggestions,one of them being showcasing the film on YouTube and submitting the film to film festivals. Additionally, I will use social medias to help boost the films relevance.
  • 3. Instagram At the beginning of the projectI created an Instagramaccountfor my film, in the hopes to promoteit fromday one by building interestand people areawareof the films existence months beforeany kind firstimage or release date. I posted BTS pics when we wrapped production, the audition call, sneak peaks of the script. I also used the story featureto record shortvideos of when we were on set – which are saved in the highlights section. This is a useful way of communicating information about the film all in one place. This also gavean outlet for the actors to turn to, sharing announcements on their personalaccounts making the audience reach further, it helped grow the followers of the page too. Of course, I did this in hopes of reaching moreof audience and making new and old audiences awareof the film. Instagramis usefultool, I used hashtags in someof my posts to extend the reach of the post, as I mentioned the people involved with the film shared it across their social media. I also created a hashtag for the film '#InsomniacsThatGoBangInTheNight'so all the posts with that hashtag will be grouped together. While Instagramis massive, it's easy to get into a small niche corner of the service. It's a useful way to sharephotos and videos, to build 'hype' and interest around the film. I shared the trailer on the account, thereforepeople could shareit easily and watch it easily. I havealso been able to sharemy work on the accountsuch as the trailer I made and official stills fromthe film. Thankfully over the courseof the account being active it has gained up 60+ followers which isn'thuge but it's a good number and morethan whatI was expecting.
  • 4. YouTube The main presentation goal of doing a live premiere (with a livechat) of the film on my YouTube channel with 1.7K subscribers. I broughtthis audiences' attention over to the InsomniacsInstagramaccount, they awareof it and anticipating the release. Oncethe live premiere hasconcluded, straightafter that I will engage in a live QnA for the film, to continue the discourse and to engage the audience further wherewe can discuss thefilm. This will help me understand whatthe audience really thinks – I can ask them questions too, furthering my evaluation of my success of the project. YouTube is a greatspace to sharecreative work and connect with other filmmakers alike. I am fortunate enough to have already connected with various filmmakers and film lovers online through my YouTube channel, I already have a certain circle of people who know me as a filmmaker and supportme with feedback. As with YouTube it does givepeople the option to comment, an outlet for feedback and discussions of thefilm and during the live premiere, there is a live chat in which I will be moderating. I feel the live premierefeature is very exciting way of presenting work. If you createthe premiereearly it comes up as a preview for people to see and the live chat is open. There is a countdown as well, which gets everyoneexcited. Italso gives me a nice idea of peoples reactions to certain scenes, if they decide to comment in moment, which often somepeople do. With having experience with this in the pastI'mable to confidently say this is an effectiveand usefulway of presenting my film to a wider audience. Once the premiere has concluded the film will remain on my channel as a YouTube'video'. Over the courseof many months my films can amass impressiveviews with some of my films having thousands of views. I know thatmostof my target audience will be watching the film fromYouTubeas it isthe most accessibleplatformto do so. This audience consists of an existing one that I haveengaged with before(YouTubechannel audience) and new people, to bringin new people to a film with certain genres and themes I will tag my film on YouTubeappropriately and sharewith relevantsources and people. While YouTube is sobig it is easy to get lost in the ocean of content, thankfully due to my existing channel with an audience it will be found easily and will hopefully go into YouTubealgorithm to be recommended to more people. The only problem I can see with this routeof presentation is the unpredictability of the audience showing up for thelive broadcast, the time I choosefor said broadcastwillhave to be one whereI know people will be free to watch and this time will have to be well promoted so people areawarefor when to tune in.
  • 5. Letterboxd Letterboxd is a service in which you can rate and review films, it’s very popular. By adding my own films onto the service this enables me to get consistentfeedback with star ratings. It's another element to my presentation as I will encouragepeople to use Letterboxd to review my film rather than a YouTube comment as if the review is good, everyonewho is following the person who left the good review may be intrigued to go watch my film after reading the good review, reading the synopsis, watching thetrailer which they can access through Letterboxd – this person is a potential new audience that will watch my film and in turn, give feedback. People can judge for themselves the genreof the film and the themes beforethey watch the film through its appearanceon Letterboxd going through peoples opinions etc. On another effortto build interest in the film I gaveearly access to four trusted critics of my work, for themto review the film and for me to use their quotes in the trailer. I picked these people as in the pastthey havegiven me deep, comprehensivereviews of my work. They know meas a filmmaker, they've followed my filmmaking journey as their opinions will hold moreweight, for me as someonewho wants to constantly improveand for others to understand more. I also hoped they'd give me a positive review. These early positivereviews will hopefully get people moreexited to watch the film, if they read these reviews and they read something interesting about it that could causethem watch the film. The only issue with this strategy is new people might not know whereto find the film. On my own Letterboxd accountI shall 'review' the film, simply stating it's release and providing a link to the film. And as I spokeof earlier, the trailer can be accessed via Letterboxd and if its anyonewho is curious, if they click on the channel that is the samechannel in which the film is public on.
  • 6. Films Festivals Finally, another way to further the audience reach of my film is to submitit to various film festivals. This will help myself as a filmmaker as if my film gets selected into a festivalthat is an achievement within itself and of courseif it wins anything that would be huge for me and for the everyoneinvolved. Bringing the film to the festivals gives a much moreserious tone rather than being 'dumped' on YouTube for only 10 people to watch. Having that professionalismof the film being in an official film festivalwill givethe film more of a purpose, a life and will allow me to connect with other filmmakers and receivevalued feedback. I looked on the BFIs officiallist of UK film festivals for young people, this will help narrow down themost appropriatefestival, my film won'tbe going up againstthousands of pounds budgeted films – it will level the playing field. Another benefit of being selected into a festival, it will boostthe interest on the film even more, I will be able to promote it on the Instagramaccount. I already havean accountset-up for film freeway, thestandard websiteused for submitting films into festivals. Lastyear I entered my film A Conversation into various festivals, ended up not getting selected. There needs to be a certain type of quality consistency for any film to get selected. As spokeabout the missteps of that film in my evaluation and the feedback I'vehad so far on this film seems to indicate that I'veimproved and certainly ready to progress into the festivalcircle. The only problems I can see are the requirements for submitting my film. Mostfestivals prefer shortshorts, as in 3-5 mins max. My film boarders on 20 minutes, this could be a problems. Itwill shut me out of many potential festivals, this might be something to consider when making my next film in conjunction with entering it into film festivals.
