10. Lessons Learned
To communicate a message, it’s important to evaluate the
audience and to select the key data points to highlight.
With these things in mind, set a course to create the
document.
Hello, My name is Holly Johnson. The following presentation is for my ASU General Purposes of Multimedia class. I will be discussing the PSA process and how the steps were followed in one of my previous assignments to create a change proposal document for my employer.
The PSA is also referred to as the Problem Solving Approach. There are 5 distinctive steps in this process that should be followed each time when using it to create a piece of communication that often incorporates the use of visuals.Step One is to Plan, Step Two is to Research, Step Three is to Draft the document, Step 4 is to review, and Step 5 is to Distribute.
In this slide you will see a proposal document I created for my employer. In it I requested that a business process be changed. I thoroughly explained my reasons for the request and the consequences of the current process not being updated. I then stated a plan of action and requested a change to be made by a specific date.
In order to create my proposal document, I used the PSA process and followed each step along the way. The first step I incorporated was the Planning stage. The basic components of this stage are to first identify the audience, then decide up on visuals and strategies for incorporating those into the project, and next to decide upon a delivery context or in what form the document will be distributed.
In the research stage I gathered pertinent information that I wanted to highlight in my proposal document. I made sure I included any material or facts that I would like to use as a basis for my document.
After gathering all of my research data, I then organized it in a manner that followed a proposal document outline. I wanted to state my purpose, what actions needed to be taken, and to establish a resolution time for my process change. In this case the visual element was that the document be laid out in a professional manner that would speak to the internal management audience in my workplace.
During the review stage, I posted my proposal draft for other students to evaluate and provide feedback. During this part of the process, fellow students and myself looked for overall continuity in my document and any error or grammatical issues requiring attention. A few slight revisions were made and a final appraisal was done on my proposal, finally it was ready to be shared.
