Fostering Friendships - Enhancing Social Bonds in the Classroom
Evalation question 3
1.
2. THE IMPORTANCE OF AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
The film industry spend such a large amount of time and money on
their market research, in order to ensure they’re complying with what
their target audience wants. For example, they will host many
screenings for their target audience to view in order to receive
feedback on whether they enjoyed the film and what needs to be
improved in order for the film to be a success.
3. OUR TARGET AUDIENCE AND
RESEARCH
We chose the target audience of 13-18 year olds, as our film is a teen
drama set within a high school we felt that this target audience would
be able to relate to the film as most people within that age group are at
school/college themselves.
We carried out our market research mainly within our college as the
age group is from 16-19 year olds, therefore this is a large amount of
our target audience and we believed that by carrying out our research
within the college, we would gain a good standard of feedback.
We presented our poster, magazine and teaser trailer to our class the
gathered feedback on what they liked and what could be improved.
4. POSTER
Firstly, this is the feedback we received from our poster.
Positive-
• Good use of having the same background throughout all of the media texts.
• Good use of the protagonists being shown, hints at a storyline.
• Bold use of colours for the font- fitting within the genre.
Negative-
• A different font used in comparison to the magazine.
• Not a convention billing block font.
• Use a brighter background colour to fit more with genre conventions.
5. POSTER
How did we use this feedback?
As you can see here, we changed the background colours on our poster to enhance the theme of a
teen drama, in which we believe this allowed us to follow more teen drama conventions. Through
using a brighter background it also enhanced the font colours, therefore this allowed us to comply
with our audience feedback and improve both the font and the background.
6. MAGAZINE
Secondly is our magazine, we gathered this market research by presenting our
magazine from the class and given feedback written on a spider diagram allowing us to
see where we can improve.
Positive-
• Good use of having the same location as on the poster, enhances the school community feel.
• The use of characters presents a hint to the narrative of the film.
• Fits the conventions of a ‘sight and sound’ magazine with the fonts and image.
Negative-
• Title is different to the poster.
• Fonts aren’t consistent- lacks brand identity.
7. MAGAZINE
How did we respond to our feedback?
We decided that going forward looking at our market
research, not to change the font of our magazine to
match the other texts as our poster font simply
wouldn’t’ fit the conventions of a ‘sight and sound’
magazine.
Therefore, we decided it was more important to follow ‘sight and sound’
conventions on our magazine then change it in order to create a better
brand identity as we believe that our use of characters and location on the magazine and poster
already enhance the brand identity.
8. TEASER TRAILER ROUGH CUT
POSITIVE
• Amazing concept of the genre - teen drama and sticking to teen drama conventions.
• Unique choice of genre
• Characters portrayed very well in the sense of their characterisation with their costume and personality
• Creative way of introducing characters - single shots of the characters and their name in titles
• Upbeat and fast - following genre conventions
• Good use of the focus shift shot
NEGATIVE
• Some shots were slightly out of focus
• Make characters voices louder specifically 'the boffin'
• Not even titles
• The title of the film needs to be longer
• Perhaps too much dialogue
9. TEASER TRAILER ROUGH CUT
Moving forward with our teaser trailer, we made multiple changes to
our film.
Including –
• Adding a voiceover allowing us to minus the dialogue said by
characters that slowed the pace of the trailer.
• Made the title of the film longer.
• Removed shots that were out of focus, or tried to correct them using
the sharpen effect of final cut pro.
10. TEASER TRAILER FINAL
After correcting the faults received throughout our market research, it enabled us to receive more
positive feedback on our final film. This was the feedback given on our Youtube upload of our film.
11. TEASER TRAILER FINAL
Overall, we were extremely pleased with our teaser trailer feedback as
it ensured us that we had followed genre conventions and also
improved our mistakes from the first feedback given. As we received
only positive feedback on our final film.
