Parole is the conditional early release of a prisoner back into the community under the supervision of correctional authorities until the end of the full
term of their sentence. When a sentence is handed down to an offender, they are given a non–parole period which they must serve first before being

implement the parole system when he was appointed governor of the New Birmingham prison, but met with apprehension, others believed that his

Violations Of Parole Supervision Are Technical Violations
Studies have found that many violations of parole supervision are technical violations instead of the parole reoffending. Technical violations can range
from a curfew to stipulations that the parole must not drink alcohol or be in a house that contains alcohol. These technical violations, while some may
consider small or insignificant violation, can cause hardships and negative outcomes for the parolee.
These technical parole terms are put in place to hopefully lessen the likelihood that the parolee will reoffend. For example, the members justice
system may believe that parolees are more at risk to reoffend when drunk thus they place the parolee under strict instructions to not consume any
alcohol or even be in the presence of alcohol to hopefully help curb temptation to drink. The members of the justice system may also want to help the

Community corrections refers to the probation officers, and other governmental representatives working on the behalf of the State, to assist offenders
with this last chance. A dual reason that these representatives are engaged in the work they do, is to monitor the behaviors of the convicted persons
within the previously mentioned community in which they reside.
Another interesting elaboration from the authors was the expansion on the overall cost of probation vs. prison. I found this section extremely interesting
and enlightening. I certainly experienced somewhat of a paradigm shift when integrating these new financial implications that the government is
burdened by vs. my own personal feelings of probation and its tendency to be soft on crime. If, by increasing the success of probation, then much more
money can theoretically be returned to the taxpayers, and thereby having an overall positive result.
The explanation of the roles of probation and parole officers were also informative to me as a reader. The reason I found it informative was because I
had never thought of the probation officers' job duties and roles are quite as varied as they actually are. Sometimes they act as dual roles, meaning

Before the mid–nineteenth century offenders received determinate sentences in prison (Rank, n.d.). Determinate sentence is a non–negotiable sentence
of incarceration for the specific amount of time as required by statute for that specific crime (U.S. Legal, 2015). Determinate sentencing became
problematic because prisons were often overcrowded, which forced governors to issue pardons or prison wardens had to randomly release inmates to
make room for new intake (Rank, n.d.).
Captain Alexander Maconochie and Sir Walter Crofton are credited for implementing earlyparole system in England (Rank, n.d.). Maconochie was
governor of an English penal colony at Norfolk Island (Rank, n.d.). Convicted English offenders were transported to Australia from England and from
Australia to the island; unfortunately, the conditions were extremely bad for the offenders (Rank, n.d.). Maconochie discontinued determinate
sentencing and created a "mark system" (Rank, n.d.). Under the "mark system", inmates could be granted release from prison based upon their hard
work and good behavior (Rank, n.d.). Inmates earned marks, which were used to buy a reduction in sentence or goods; unfortunately, inmates had to
undergo a variety of stages before they were released and the climbing through the stages depended on the number of marks received (Rank, n.d.).

At 5pm Cpl. Bourgeois's torn drivers license was found by a covered bridge on Shediac River, approximately 15 miles east of Moncton. Due to the
fact that sunset had past the police decided to cordon off the area and await daylight to continue the search.8 The next morning at 8am the search

been described as the "strictest form of probation for adults in the United States," and is designed to achieve control in a community setting over
offenders who would otherwise go to prison. Some states have extended intensive supervision to paroles, allowing the early release of some who

With the dramatic increase in the prison population since the 1970's, the number of people released from prison has also seen a steady increase. In
2009, almost 730,000 people were released from state and federal prisons, an increase of more than 20 percent since 2000. Those newly released are
often condemned by their time in prison and usually have to deal with a loss of social standing. The transitioning process can present various challenges
for them including but not limited to reconnecting with family and peers, finding living arrangements and employment. This transitioning process is
better referred to as reentry. Reentry is the process in which individuals return to communities from prison or jail custody, with the goal of reintegrating

Once youth were admitted to the reformatory, they were placed into a classification. This classification was termed "second grade". In order to get

[In an effort to reduce crime rates over the last two decades, there was a push to increase arrests, and length of incarceration of criminal offenders.
Due to the increase in numbers of offenders incarcerated and the length of their sentences the prison has an increasing population of elderly
offenders. In light of this situation, the need to provide medical care for this population has become increasingly more expensive than anyone
anticipated. Therefore, there has been a great deal of attention to what is known as compassionate release. In order to evaluate the arguments for and
against this legislation we will look at the arguments on both sides, what values underlie each position, how medical release fits into the discussion,
and alternatives to the problem. [The idea of compassionate release has been in practice in about thirty states in the union for many years. In all but
three of the other states there were programs for the early release of terminally ill offenders (O'Meara, 2010). However, the limited budgets felt by

The use of parole has been around as early as the 1600s. Parole has grown into a program where offenders are released into the community with
resources to help the offender reduce their chance of recidivating. Barton – Bellessa and Hanser said, "The true purpose of community correction [was]
to reform those offenders who showed sufficient motivation and likelihood of being reformed (pgs. 441 and 443)". Instead, in the past ten years, parole

trafficking. This is not to say that all inmates are unqualified to be released because of poor job readiness, but other inmates who are job ready lack
responsibility and sane judgement because of poor rehabilitation programs short in duration, or not available. Screening is also poor because parole

money on meaningless crimes and other people's mistakes. It costs $700.00 a month to house one inmate and the cost of one employee's hourly
wage of $10.50 (U.S. Marshal Service 2). Compare the cost to house one inmate to the cost of hiring one employee. The cost is substantially different.

First of all, not all inmates should be subjected to prison for their crimes. For example, not every crime is considered high priority, so this would mean
they have a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is a low–level case where the person gets prosecuted, but not labeled as a high risk. With a misdemeanor,
