Critical Book Review
Angela Davis is best known for being a political activist for social issues as well as being a member
of the Black Panther Party and Communist party. Davis is well educated and received wide attention
when she was fired from UCLA for being a member in the communist party. She also received wide
attention when a takeover in a courtroom which killed several people by a gun was registered under
her name. She was put on trial and acquitted for murder but found not guilty. In the past few years,
she has been focusing on fighting against the prison system. She is the founder of Critical
Resistance, a national organization about prison industrial complex. Her book ... Show more content

For example, she gives the history of prisons in California "There are now thirty–three prisons,
thirty–eight canos, sixteen community correctional facilities..." ( Davis 13) She further explains how
there has been an huge increase in prisons and prisoners and presents her argument on the reasons
why prisons have increased such as the Prison Industrial Complex in which she explains in chapter
five. This chapter helps gives you a preview of what Davis will be talking about throughout the
book. In chapter two, slavery, civil rights, and abolitionist perspectives toward prison,, Davis
provides a connection of slavery and prison institutions. She provides an insight in a way that I have
never thought about prisons before. Davis reflects back on history and explains how slavery has not
ended yet but has change. She explains how even though slavery is abolition. before slavery was
normal just how prisons are normal to us. Overtime, we may change our views about prisons and
come to the conclusion to abolish prisons. In chapter three, imprisonment and reform, Davis
explains the means of imprisonment and what reform has to do with it. Davis argues that prisons are
obsolete because they are undemocratic because they take away human rights such as the 13th
amendment. She argues that a democracy would not need prisons and many social problems would
be fix. Prisons are a way of social control in which exploits

The Characteristics Of Psychopaths In Pop Culture
Psychopaths are prevalent in almost every aspect of life. They are at school, in the office, and at the
grocery store. People view psychopaths as socially removed and isolated, but many with
psychopathic traits lead normal lives with their own quirks. Functional psychopathy has become
more and more normalized, as it has been featured in different aspects of pop culture. Many people
hope to break the stereotype associated with psychopathy in order for society to become more
inclusive of mental disorders, and also to educate more people about psychopathic behavior through
popular shows and movies. One example of a functional yet quirky psychopath in pop culture is
Dwight Schrute from The Office. The Office is set at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, in
Scranton, Pennsylvania, with Michael Scott managing the staff. Also called an "office
mockumentary," the series follows the shenanigans, strange happenings, and hysterical moments
that take place in the office at Dunder Mifflin. Viewers love to see how different each of the
characters are, and how often their differences get them into trouble.
Dwight is perhaps the most dedicated and hardworking member of the staff, as he is the leading
salesman. Many of his co–workers enjoy teasing him, and while this is funny to viewers of the
show, it causes Dwight to get himself into trouble and make himself appear annoying to others in the
office. Dwight's character comes across as odd and hilarious, but with further analysis of his

Challenges of Leadership
Leadership Book Analysis
Modern World Leaders– Angela Merkel
The person chosen for this leadership report is Angela Merkel. I read "Modern World Leaders–
Angela Merkel" written by Clifford W. Mills. Being born in Berlin, with my pride in being German,
as well as being a female with my own leadership ambitions, I felt Angela Merkel was a perfect fit
for me. Gaining knowledge on the leadership style from one of the most powerful and influential
women in the world, while also learning the values and beliefs my country is grounded on, I find
Angela Merkel to be extremely interesting leader to study. Angela Merkel (born Angela Dorothea
Kasner), was born in Hamburg, Germany on July 17, 1954. Angela ... Show more content on

In Germany teachers quiet strict and at one point she had a teacher that would punish the entire class
if a presentation differed even slightly from what the teacher told them to do. Deep down inside
Merkel knew that the students put in extreme effort into the presentations and that this matter was so
serious that the students could all be expelled from school. After explaining the situation to her
parents, Merkel wrote a petition which she also presented to some GDR officials. Merkels class was
saved; the teacher was later disciplined. I characterize her leadership style as one that is based on
ethics and morals while also being very direct. She is both task oriented as well as relationship
oriented. Merkel focuses on the business task at hand while putting great emphasis relationships and
networking... "I don't think it make sense to go round and round in circles arguing about this crisis.
We have to manage it instead. But that's something we can only do together with our neighbors, our
partners, the big ones and the small ones. I think Germany is destined, partly as a result of its
geographic position, to be a mediator and balancing factor."
From this statement I feel as though Merkel is very direct and to the point– there is no point in
arguing, let's do something about it. At the same time Merkel puts emphasis on leader–member
relations. Previous chancellor Schroeder was known for his extravagant sleigh rides with

Movie Analysis : ' Going Cukor '
Going Cukor
Metro–Goldwyn–Mayer
A 1944 version from John Van Druten, Walter Reisch & John L Balderston 's screen play.
Featuring: Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman and a youthful Angela Lansbury
Music score by B. Kaper the Polish master
Plot:
Paula Alquist a British singer in Italy returns back to reside in her late Aunt 's (who was also a singer
like her Aunt) London abode where an unsolved tragedy struck, as a newly wed – and there her
idyllic life slowly takes a minacious turn.

I naturally feel at kin with the French journalistic styled terminology called; ' film noir, ' – I adhere
to spicing up ordinary narratives, especially remakes of a theatre production – 'Gaslight ' originally

There 's no better starting point; 'Gaslight ' was the embryo of film noir – it shines through, far
brighter than a Curtis Bernhardt production i.e. 'Possessed ' (1947).
Right from the enormity of 'Gaslight 's ' musical cords composed by B. Kaper; cajoled ambiance and
expressions the filmography captivates the voyeur, even as a natural critic I found the pioneering
aspect outshone any remote view Cukor overplayed the sado–masochism trait. Purely of the de facto
the unsightly trait had to come across prominently for 'Gaslight ' to work under the genre of 'noir. '
The screen play written by: John Van Druten, Walter Reisch & John L Balderston was languor in
contrast. Cukor blatantly threw caution into the wind and entrusted the professional marriage of
Kaper and Boyer 's talents unlike any twenty–first century director would. Call it foolhardiness,
naivety or cinematology wisdom – fortunately, 'Gaslight ' floated. Better still, his foresightedness
has catapulted 'Gaslight ' as being credible reading material for film students across the spectrum.
Their scholarly aim is to strip back to the core of noir, once they comprehend the noir components
you appreciate the honesty of the film noir genre and as epochs pass, herewith dawns a modern
adaptation, notably... neo–noir with David Lynch 's 'Blue Velvet ' (1986). What never dims is the
influence of 'Gaslight ' – notably an assiduous presence. The key aspect (s) include:

key to achievements I think she really means that the more you show effort then you can get better

when they learn things and they might not practice for it but she wants them to show effort. Like

African American Civil Rights Activists: Angela Davis
Our Angela Davis is about an African American women who was focused on doing everything in
her power to create peace, stop racism, and also promoting equality within the world. Angela fought
for people to have equal civil rights in multiple ways. Angela Davis fought for civil rights by joining
multiple associations and organizations that fought for equality and civil rights created for all. In my
own words, civil rights is equal rights for citizens politically and socially. By stating this, I feel as
though citizens should have equal rights politically and socially because everyone is the same but
different at the same time. By having equality throughout the world; it would be a different society
based off of equal civil rights politically and socially. Political equality is someone having the right
to make their own decisions based off their own thoughts in politics. Social equality is someone not
being influenced or assimulating into society or from society. In the following pages, I will be
discussing the life of an African American activist for civil rights, Angela Davis. I will be first
discussing Davis journey throughout history and our society today. Next, I will state important facts,
dates, information, all in chronological order. The fourth page, I will be evaluating the credibility of
my sources and also agreeing or disagreeing with the sources information. In the fifth page I will
state why Angela Davis is important, and why I believe she helped the civil

Angela Davis and Feminism Essay
Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, grandparents, pimps, prostitutes, straight people,
gay people, lesbian people, Europeans, Asians, Indians, and Africans all have once thing in
common: they are products of sexuality. Sexuality is the most common activity in the world, yet is
considered taboo and "out of the norm" in modern society. Throughout history, people have been
harassed, discriminated against, and shunned for their "sexuality". One person who knows this all
too well is activist and author, Angela Davis. From her experiences, Davis has analyzed the
weakness of global society in order to propose intellectual theories on how to change the perspective

Angela Davis began her college career at Brandeis University to study French which granted her the
opportunity to study abroad in France. In 1963, while Davis was in France four black girls were
killed in a church bombing known as the 16th Street Church Bombing. This tragedy sparked Davis'
Passion for philosophy because she was personally affected by the bombing since she knew two of
the killed victims.
In 1969, Davis came back the America and joined several radical civil rights organizations. She was
a member of the Communist Party, USA and a member of the Black Panther Party along with being
an assistance professor at the University of California– Los Angeles (UCLA). Governor at the time,
Ronald Reagan, tried to terminate her position as UCLA professor because of her Communist
affiliation, but that was overturned. Yet, devastation struck only a few months later.
August 7, 1970, a young black male, Johnathan Jackson held Superior Court Judge, Harold Haley, a
prosecutor, and three jury members hostage. He eventually shot and killed Judge Haley and the
prosecutor. Coincidentally, the pistol Johnathan Jackson used to kill the judge and prosecutor were
bought by Angela Davis a day before the shooting; therefore, Angela Davis was put on a 13 week
trial for murder, kidnapping and conspiracy charges. In the end, Davis was found not guilty, yet still

The European Union ( Eu )
The European Union (EU) is composed of twenty– eight European countries. Since its inception in
the early 1990's, the EU has moved major European countries towards economic cooperation.
Lately, the fundamental and economical disparity of some of these countries, specifically Germany
and France has caused dissent within the Union. The debate over fiscal policy, in particular, austerity
implementation has left the two European powerhouses at odds on the best possible way to regain
regional stability. This paper will seek to shed light on as to why these two countries have such
differing views of austerity and to describe the issues that arise due to them.
France is considered to be a modern European country. It is a member of the UNSC (United Nations
Security Council), the G–8, the G–20, NATO and the EU. France's governmental system consists of
a hybrid presidential–parliamentary system. France is the most visited country in the world and is
estimated to contribute to the EU budget 19.674 billion Euros. On the opposite side, the EU spends
approximately 13.479 billion Euros on France (Europa).
Germany is also considered to be a modern European country. They are also part of the UNSC, the
G–8, the G–20, NATO and the EU. Germany utilizes a federal parliamentary republic system. With
regards to the EU, Germany has held the alternating presidency for the Council of the EU eleven
times between 1958 and 2007. Some of its strongest economic sectors in 2014 were industrials,

Summary Of Angela Liddel
Angela Liddel stares forlornly out of the window in the limousine. Movies and novels often
romanticize boarding school, but the concept is daunting to the sixteen year old. The Atlantic Ocean
is rather unimpressive; nothing like she'd expected, and so far feels general disappointment amid
arriving at Madame LeFoux's Academy for Exemplary Young Ladies. Angela wasn't certain what
she was expecting, but this certainly wasn't it. She treks up the steps to the large mansion, uncertain
of what would come next. Angela takes a deep breath, and sounds the large lion head knocker, and
the door swings open. "Hello?" Angela calls out, but there is no response. She decides to search for
the headmistress's office so that she might become more acquainted with the building. As she turns a
corner she collides with a petite woman. "Pardon me, darling." She says, picking up her pocketbook
from the ground. As she returns to standing, she sees Angela clasping on to her suitcase for dear life.
"This must be the new student, Miss Liddel." The woman murmurs to herself. Her chestnut brown
eyes smile fondly down at the student. "Yes, it's Angela Liddel." The girl says uncertainly, "Who
might you be?" "Pleased to make acquaintances Miss Liddel, darling, I am Headmistress Ariadne
LeFoux, but you may simply call me Madame. I am the headmistress. If you'd like to follow me,
let's begin by giving you a tour of these grounds." The woman's grin is startling, as she doesn't seem
the type to smile very often. The headmistress leads Angela to the dining hall, and as they approach
the room, Madame pauses before throwing the double doors open. The dining hall is vast, with long
wooden benches and identical long tables fill the room. It's a grand room, and ornate in style. "What
sort of classes are available?" Angela asks, even more disappointed. This school intends to teach
stuffy rich girls how to embroider and keep house. "A highly unusual education is in store for you,
Miss Liddel, darling. We specialize in more... investigative skills and covert operations." Madame
LeFoux replies, eying Angela's reaction cautiously. "Pardon, Madame. I don't understand... This is
spy school?" Angela asks, utterly dumbfounded, "I thought that your

Main Themes Of The Prince By Machiavelli
1. Machiavelli wrote The Prince because he wanted to give Lorenzo The Magnificent, a book that
highlights major keys to being a Prince and being one efficiently. Also, The Prince was written
because to gain endeavor by the prince it is customary to give him something a person holds most
valuable, Machiavelli held his knowledge most valuable.
2. The way 'Governments are Established and Held', is a theme in The Prince. Machiavelli says, 'The
dominions thus acquired have either been previously accustomed to the rule of another prince, or
else have been free states, and they are annexed either by force of arms of the prince himself, or of
other, or else fall to him by good fortune or special ability.', he then further explains this topic in the
next nine chapters. Another one of the major themes is "War'. Machiavelli explains how to use the
methods of offense and defense in a war if a princes' foundation is stable for four chapters. Finally,
'Reputation' is a theme of The Prince. Throughout the last twelve chapters Machiavelli explains how
you should act to keep in favor of your citizens.
3. The role of armies is to maintain its country's' defense through fortifications. This ensures security
and stops enemies from attacking a prince's' country.
4. Machiavelli's advice is more realistic. He writes the 'real truth of the matter than to its
imagination', compared to other writers that have, 'have imagined republics and principalities which
have never been seen or known to exist in reality'.
5. Machiavelli says it is better for a prince to be both feared and loved, because men will love at free
will and fear at the will of their prince, but a prince must rely solely on his power that he already
has. It is possible for a prince to be both. A prince could show love by giving constant support for
many of the citizens of his country, but should also be feared because he should give consequences
to citizens who do not follow the rules of the country.
6. Conspiracy, a prince should not worry about conspiracies when people are well, but when people
are hostile, he should fear conspiracies. Merit, a prince should show merit, and honor those who
excel. Goodness, a prince should gain

Analysis Of The Paschal Mystery And Saint Angela Merici
Around the world, the Catholic faith is celebrated daily in similar and different ways. The Catholic
Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets the
Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of the
message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered and
portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Merici has a tall building with a very plain
look to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite's service was long and
overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two celebrations run
similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and its attendants. At Saint
Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main altar constructed from
granite. Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross. Along the walls of the church
are art pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast, Servite's mass is held in a theater with
multiple rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a folding table with a cloth covering the
legs. SAM has a very plain interior design, with two statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is
of Joseph. Due to Servite's emphasis on respecting Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary.
SAM's exterior is very tall and narrow while Servite's theater looks like any other theater

people think of Irish as drunks. So I believe the author is trying to inform the reader that not all Irish

strongly attached to their religion and are strong believers. Like Fintay, a kid in Frank class, and his

Identifying Requirements For High Level Policy Makers
Phase One – Identifying Requirements
1. High level policy makers are not only concerned with intelligence; they are constantly concerned
with reelection. A policy maker who is identifying requirements could decide to focus resources on
an issue that is less vital to the nation's security in order to obtain information that will get them
reelected. High level threats could be pushed to the side in order to address an issue that is not
necessarily as vital but is a hot topic in news media, and public opinion. This would be followed
down by the intelligence community and the more dangerous area or individual threat could be left
unmonitored.
2. Often briefings and communication between high level officials and analysts are hectic times and
communication of requirements could not be communicated clearly. A policy maker giving feedback
on collection objectives or asking questions could be perceived by the intelligence official as
requesting more information when really that policy maker has enough information to make a
decision. This is an issue when two people come from different backgrounds and use different
phrasing, objectives could be easily misunderstood. Time and resources would then be wasted to
gather intelligence on issues that are no longer relevant.
3. Officials in the intelligence community often faced with new policy makers or those with
differing views from those in the intelligence community could decide to ignore or alter
requirements to suit their own

Oedipus The King, By Sophocles
Shakespeare said about leaders, "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have
greatness thrust upon them." In the story of Oedipus the King, written by Sophocles, Oedipus fits
Shakespeare's description of leaders in many ways. He was born in royalty then discarded by his
family. Oedipus rose in life to achieve greatness and because of a series of events had greatness
thrust upon him. The same series of events eventually became his downfall, but Oedipus was a good
leader. He had traits similar to leaders of today. Oedipus was a dedicated moral leader and did his
best while looking for truth like Merkel, in addition similar to Trump and Schwarzkopf, he was
confident and acted swiftly to reach his goals. Oedipus is moral, dedicated, and works to save the
city while trying to find the truth about the death of King Laius. Oedipus was told of the prophecy
that he would kill his father and marry his mother. In the story, Oedipus decides to leave his home
and parents to avoid taking a chance that the prophecy will come true. Oedipus makes the decision
based on what he knows, like many good leaders, to be proactive to a potential problem. He believes
by leaving his home and parents, he will avoid all chances of a causing something with tragic
consequences that morally he cannot live with. Oedipus is dedicated to making the city better. He

Just like race is a social construct and exists only in our minds, with no biological evidence, so is the
assumption that most prisoners convicted of drug offense are African Americans. It is a myth that we
as a nation have moved beyond race, Racial caste is alive and well in America. Alexander, author of
The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, explained how our treatment
of criminals has created a new racial caste system, and the only way to make change is by massive
social change and Civil Rights movement. The criminal laws often focus on psychoactive drugs
used by the minority populations. Minorities are disproportionately targeted, arrested, and punished
for drug offenses. For instance, Black, Latino, Native American, and many Asian were portrayed as
violent, traffickers of drugs and a danger to society. Surveillance was focused on communities of
color, also immigrants, the unemployed, the undereducated, and the homeless, who continue to be
the main targets of law enforcement efforts to fight the war on drugs. Although African Americans

of those arrested for drug offenses and 59 percent of those convicted of drug offenses causing critics
to call the war on drugs the "New Jim Crow"(drug policy). The drug

Australian Dual Citizenship Essay
Australian dual nationals can travel to the US: Malcolm Turnbull
The article 'Australian dual nationals can travel to the US' published on the 31st of January 2017 by
The Sydney Morning Herald, written by Tom Mrlloy and David Wroe, reflects how Australian
citizens with dual citizenship will not be affected by the US's contradicting immigration prohibition.
At the Parliament House, Canberra, Mr Turnbull stated that people with dual citizenship are
approved to visit the US, despite their beliefs or culture.
The main issue raised in this article was that Australian citizens which hold a dual citizenship are
not allowed to travel to the US. Mr Turnbull confirmed dual citizenship holders are safe to visit the
US with no harm or worry. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never knew citizens from countries, such as, Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran, loss
permission to travel to the US, conversely, owning an Australian citizenship. I found this very
unfair. I know those countries may have terrorist and dangerous people, but minority is like them,
they are still people, like us. In the future, I believe, I would like to support everyone from refugee
countries. I would like to take action helping the innocent people, who had nothing to do with the
bombing and terrorist attacks. Those five countries withdrawal of dual citizenship could become an
on–going issue, affecting my community, as well as, I believe, nationally and internationally. Family
connection could be lost or interrupted, causing distress, anger, grief and etc., initiating conflict on
the planet. My suggestion to resolve this problem, would be considering or further discussing
possible prevention measures being overlooked to avoid the situation from escalating.
I believe, everyone in Australia should be treated fairly and have equal rights. I also support people
with dual citizenship and background from Pakistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey or Iran should be
treated the same as all Australian citizens, despite their race or background. I was disappointed with
the negative change of the US citizenship rights, as a young boy with a dual Iranian – Australian

Bones Essay
In the past decade, network television has been bombarded by crime shows attempting to make their
mark on viewers. All of these programs–CSI, Lie to Me, Numb3rs, Law & Order–have the same
general set up of a male lead with a hot–head who is complemented by his team of FBI agents. As a
loyal viewer and fan of Bones, I often wonder what makes it stay afloat with so many shows out
there like it. Could it be that Bones isn't like any of the other crime shows? Through its crimes and
unsolved murders, Bones helps its viewers make sense of the disastrous world around them. The
world we live in is full of danger and unsolved crime, but after watching Dr. Brennan, her team of

chemistry between them is undeniable, and as we have seen in the most recent season, Booth has
accepted his feelings for Brennan and, in the early episodes of season five, has been trying to tell her
how he feels. In the real world, many crimes remain unsolved, but in Bones every murder is solved
and the killer is brought to justice. As Letizia, the author of a TV review entitled "Bones", asserts,
"fans root not just for crimes to be solved, but for [Booth and Brennan], working in tandem, to solve
them." The viewer begins to trust these two characters and think of them as real people they have let

Where an episode of CSI leaves one with the feeling that 'evil' exists no matter what we do about it,
Bones makes the case that there is also 'good.' Granted, truly happy endings are rare when it comes
to murder investigations, but the victims depicted in Bones often find some sort of redemption at the
end–even if it simply means their families learn what really happened to them.

Angela Vicario Essay
Márquez uses the character of Angela Vicario to show the power women can possess over the men
in their lives. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one
who tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire
plot of the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the
fact that she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela "nailed
[Santiago's name] to the wall with her well–aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence
has always been written" (Márquez 47). The way in which Angela searches for Santiago's name

Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens
to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself
from the fate Angela's words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in
which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela's
statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her
brothers. In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared "that they would have done it again a thousand times
over for the same reason" (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in
committing the murders, Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in
defense of Angela's honor. By making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it
is clear that they will end up doing something to protect their sister's purity. Whether Angela
intentionally wanted Santiago to end up dead or not, it is still clear that at this point in the novel, she
is exercising a control over Santiago, Pablo, and

Blues Boundaries And The Blues Angela Davis Analysis

History of the Blues
Professor House
Did Angela Davis get it wrong?
As a consequence of slavery and segregation, Angela Y. Davis contends in ''Blues
Legacies and Black Feminism,'' her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the blues
vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, ''black social consciousness has been
overdetermined by race,'' with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a
professor of something called the ''history of consciousness'' at the University of California,
Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country's black poor, who are
understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she's right in
step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism
prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in
anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn
discussion away from the more crucial issue of class.
If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post–modern: a tool for the
analysis of literary and other ''texts,'' not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One
of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black
intellectuals and activists of the 1960's and 70's, whose Marxist ideals might otherwise make
them seem like relics not of their own day but of the 1930's. Davis made the news in 1969, when
the Regents of the University of California attempted to bar her from teaching at U.C.L.A.
because she was a member of the Communist Party, and again a year later, when she briefly
became a fugitive after being accused of supplying the brother of George Jackson with the
firearms for his one–man raid on a Marin County courthouse. (Jonathan Jackson was killed,
along with three others, in the ensuing shootout. Davis was later apprehended, tried and
acquitted.)
Davis's thesis in ''Blues Legacies and Black Feminism,'' in a nutshell, is that Ma Rainey
and Bessie Smith, among other flamboyant women blues singers

In the wake of the successful cinema run for the cherished superheroine, seeing the biography of
Wonder Woman's fascinating author on the big screen was only the question of time. But wonder no
more: another talented female filmmaker follows in the footsteps of Patty Jenkins to shed some light
on the compelling backstory.
Angela Robinson, who had been developing the concept for years while she worked on multiple TV
projects, expertly uncovered the lesser known side of the comic creator's life. Skilfully handling a
story of a polyamorous relationship, she paints a thrilling picture of a love triangle based not on the
rivalry, but consent and mutual trust between the people involved. It's a delight to observe the
intricacies of their relationships portrayed with such great care. Robinson pays a lot of attention to
the power shifts in this love triangle, and allows the feelings between the characters to grow, without
getting rid of doubts or uncertainties. And refreshingly, the story steers away from objectifying
women with the eye of the camera; it stays on the tasteful side, without shying away from the story's
brimming sensuality. Even if the romantic level of the story follows an usual route, it tangles it ...

forefront, Merkel pushed for greater private–sector investors to absorb some of the rescue burden.
She saw to it that European Union bureaucrats went to Athens where they quietly insisted on simple
but important things like shortened vacations for the civil servants, higher taxes on swimming pools
and lower expenditures on public housing (Applebaum, 2013). In consideration of these reforms,
Angela Merkel stated at political rally in Germany "It's not just about getting any further into debt in

Angela Carter’s The Bood Chamber Essay
In Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, the theme of transformation appears throughout the short
story cycle. The hero/heroine's virginity acts as a source of strength that protects them from harm.
Their lack of fear also saves them from death. Virginity acts as power of potentia, either literally or
symbolically and results in a release of an observed transformative power. The bloody chamber
serves a different symbolic purpose of transformation for Beauty in "The Courtship of Mr Lyon",
the heroine in "The Tiger's Bride" and the Countess in "The Lady of the House of Love". Each of
these characters will embark on a journey that questions their selfhood in circumstances that are
presented to them and ultimately each will go through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This foregrounds potential of narcissism within Beauty. The Beast allows Beauty to go back to
London to be with her father under the condition that she must return before winter is over. While in
London, she, "[sends] him flowers, white roses in return for the ones he had given her; and when she
left the florist, she experienced a sudden sense of perfect freedom, as if she had jus escaped from an
unknown danger" (48). With this gesture, Beauty feels all her debts are settled and she no longer has
an obligation to the Beast. When she puts on her robe of fur, she becomes her own beast, showing a
parallel between her and the Beast.
Beauty undergoes a physical alteration essential for her negative transformation, due to her
susceptibility to corruptibility. Since "she was learning at the end of her adolescence, how to be a
spoiled child and that pearly skin of hers was plumping out, a little, with high living and
compliments" (48–49). Beauty transformed into a snobbish woman who became obsessed with
materialistic objects and her looks. Her epiphytic moment for redemption occurs when the spaniel is
at the door, thinking the Beast has come to collect her. She acts as a supplementary element, who
offers companionship to the Beast. She is a loyal hybrid figure, half human half beast and despite
being, "[a] well brushed, jewelled dog" (49) she demonstrates human capacity for compassion,

Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth
Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone's undoing. The hunt for power can oftentimes
lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the person or
environment. Shakespeare's Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes obsessed with
the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power affects him and
everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will ruin him,
ultimately being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putin showcases that he and people
around him have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times, the pursuit of
power will lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can show on the
outside as delusion and insanity. Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he
seems delusional and insane. After he hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they
come back unsuccessful, only managing to kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an
apparition of (supposedly) Banquo and says "(to GHOST) Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake.
Thy gory locks at me./ Gentlemen, rise. His highness is not well" (Shakespeare 3.4.61–63). Without
being prompted by the ghost, Macbeth responds and another noble is weary of his actions. He kills
Banquo because Banquo suspects that Macbeth did something horrible (like killing the king) to
become king. Macbeth wants to keep the power that he

The Narrative Style Of Angela Merkel, Chancellor Of Germany
Narrative intelligent leaders are significant to organizations, as they lead by storytelling, they are
simultaneously influencing others through trust and communication. The purpose of this
communication analysis is to highlight and describe how the narrative leader style of Angela

outlining her narrative approach based on her speeches, presentations, and podcasts in addition to,
the literature available in narrative communication and leadership. Next, it will delineate the

The United States has observed an era of progressive activism for women. But, feminism is by its
nature a complex notion and one can't fully appreciate its effectiveness forgetting the aspect of
ethnic discriminations in the country (Collin, p.p 47). Race matters exist in diverse places and at
unusual times under extensively unreliable circumstances. It is different from white feminism as
they have managed to attain their own freedom in a different way. This was because Black women
were hardly seen as an active figure in such movements over the history. Currently, the issues of

mother should have stayed in Mexico, but in my opinion, I believe that they were right to leave for
California. If they stayed, they would have had to face several consequences, one being having to
live with Esperanza's uncle, despicable Tio Luis. At the same time, when they went to California,
they did not have to leave everything behind, it was a choice they made. After all, as Esperanza
herself said in the book, "Do not ever be afraid to start over." (p. 253)
Esperanza and her mother made the choice to leave Mexico and go to California to work and escape
Tio Luis, which I believe to be a good decision. Before going, Esperanza was spoiled, rich, and
quite full of herself, living in a high social class family, and in general thought of herself better than
others. At first, she was against leaving everything she knew and loved, but in the end, found herself
liking California. Esperanza made new friends, in particular, Isabel, who taught her many things,
even though she was younger. She taught her how to appreciate what she had, and how to get a job
done. She taught her how to deal with the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people do choose to stay in their home country, for various reasons, but others, such as
Esperanza and her mother, choose to leave one place for another, the same way many Syrians are
immigrating to Germany. In other words, while several stay, several leave as well, and it is therefore
up to those said people to decide. A point often overlooked, though, when all of the numbers are in
the air, it is very easy to forget that these are people, not just statistics. As said in Pam Munoz Ryan's
book, Esperanza Rising, "There is no rose without thorns." This represents that, despite the
peremptory positive effects, there is nothing without flaws and no life without

Woman in Political Representation
Women in political representation In 2012, Only 12 women reached parliament that's 2% of the
whole parliament women do not represent only 2% of society (Daily news). Women are never
placed in political representation in the Egyptian politics which is a sign of no democracy in Egypt.
Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a
state, typically through elected representatives. Although, the Egyptian constitution claims that
Egypt is a democratic and developed society, women are not equal to men when it comes to political
representations. Women have the right for equal representation in the governing bodies of Egypt. It's
also commonly believed that when it comes to multitasking women can do it better. Researchers
proved that when women and men work on a number of simple tasks such as searching for a key or
doing easy math problems at the same time, women significantly outperformed the men.
Many theories prove that women have always been capable of scoring higher in IQ tests, which are
the measurements of intelligence. However, because of discriminatory gender roles, women never
realized their own potential. According to IQ expert James Flynn, women have closed the IQ gap
and are in fact scoring higher than men. gender–based differences in education and social roles have
historically set the bar lower for women. Women have always been capable of scoring higher in IQ
but because of discriminatory gender socializing, never

Davis is well educated and received wide attention when she was fired from UCLA for being a member in the communist party. She also received wide attention when a takeover in a courtroom which killed several people by a gun was registered under her name. She was put on trial and acquitted for murder but found not guilty. In the past few years, she has been focusing on fighting against the prison system. She is the founder of Critical Resistance, a national organization about prison industrial complex. Her book ... For example, she gives the history of prisons in California "There are now thirty–three prisons, thirty–eight canos, sixteen community correctional facilities..." ( Davis 13) She further explains how there has been an huge increase in prisons and prisoners and presents her argument on the reasons why prisons have increased such as the Prison Industrial Complex in which she explains in chapter five. This chapter helps gives you a preview of what Davis will be talking about throughout the book. In chapter two, slavery, civil rights, and abolitionist perspectives toward prison,, Davis provides a connection of slavery and prison institutions. She provides an insight in a way that I have never thought about prisons before. Davis reflects back on history and explains how slavery has not ended yet but has change. She explains how even though slavery is abolition. before slavery was normal just how prisons are normal to us. Overtime, we may change our views about prisons and come to the conclusion to abolish prisons. In chapter three, imprisonment and reform, Davis explains the means of imprisonment and what reform has to do with it. Davis argues that prisons are obsolete because they are undemocratic because they take away human rights such as the 13th amendment. She argues that a democracy would not need prisons and many social problems would be fix. Prisons are a way of social control in which exploits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Characteristics Of Psychopaths In Pop Culture Psychopaths are prevalent in almost every aspect of life. They are at school, in the office, and at the grocery store. People view psychopaths as socially removed and isolated, but many with psychopathic traits lead normal lives with their own quirks. Functional psychopathy has become more and more normalized, as it has been featured in different aspects of pop culture. Many people hope to break the stereotype associated with psychopathy in order for society to become more inclusive of mental disorders, and also to educate more people about psychopathic behavior through popular shows and movies. One example of a functional yet quirky psychopath in pop culture is Dwight Schrute from The Office. The Office is set at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, with Michael Scott managing the staff. Also called an "office mockumentary," the series follows the shenanigans, strange happenings, and hysterical moments that take place in the office at Dunder Mifflin. Viewers love to see how different each of the characters are, and how often their differences get them into trouble. Dwight is perhaps the most dedicated and hardworking member of the staff, as he is the leading salesman. Many of his co–workers enjoy teasing him, and while this is funny to viewers of the show, it causes Dwight to get himself into trouble and make himself appear annoying to others in the office. Dwight's character comes across as odd and hilarious, but with further analysis of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on Angela Merkel Tiffany Prill Challenges of Leadership Leadership Book Analysis Modern World Leaders– Angela Merkel The person chosen for this leadership report is Angela Merkel. I read "Modern World Leaders– Angela Merkel" written by Clifford W. Mills. Being born in Berlin, with my pride in being German, as well as being a female with my own leadership ambitions, I felt Angela Merkel was a perfect fit for me. Gaining knowledge on the leadership style from one of the most powerful and influential women in the world, while also learning the values and beliefs my country is grounded on, I find Angela Merkel to be extremely interesting leader to study. Angela Merkel (born Angela Dorothea Kasner), was born in Hamburg, Germany on July 17, 1954. Angela ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Germany teachers quiet strict and at one point she had a teacher that would punish the entire class if a presentation differed even slightly from what the teacher told them to do. Deep down inside Merkel knew that the students put in extreme effort into the presentations and that this matter was so serious that the students could all be expelled from school. After explaining the situation to her parents, Merkel wrote a petition which she also presented to some GDR officials. Merkels class was saved; the teacher was later disciplined. I characterize her leadership style as one that is based on ethics and morals while also being very direct. She is both task oriented as well as relationship oriented. Merkel focuses on the business task at hand while putting great emphasis relationships and networking... "I don't think it make sense to go round and round in circles arguing about this crisis. We have to manage it instead. But that's something we can only do together with our neighbors, our partners, the big ones and the small ones. I think Germany is destined, partly as a result of its geographic position, to be a mediator and balancing factor." From this statement I feel as though Merkel is very direct and to the point– there is no point in arguing, let's do something about it. At the same time Merkel puts emphasis on leader–member relations. Previous chancellor Schroeder was known for his extravagant sleigh rides with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Featuring: Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman and a youthful Angela Lansbury Music score by B. Kaper the Polish master Plot: Paula Alquist a British singer in Italy returns back to reside in her late Aunt 's (who was also a singer like her Aunt) London abode where an unsolved tragedy struck, as a newly wed – and there her idyllic life slowly takes a minacious turn. – – – I naturally feel at kin with the French journalistic styled terminology called; ' film noir, ' – I adhere to spicing up ordinary narratives, especially remakes of a theatre production – 'Gaslight ' originally was a screen play. Any attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There 's no better starting point; 'Gaslight ' was the embryo of film noir – it shines through, far brighter than a Curtis Bernhardt production i.e. 'Possessed ' (1947). Right from the enormity of 'Gaslight 's ' musical cords composed by B. Kaper; cajoled ambiance and expressions the filmography captivates the voyeur, even as a natural critic I found the pioneering aspect outshone any remote view Cukor overplayed the sado–masochism trait. Purely of the de facto the unsightly trait had to come across prominently for 'Gaslight ' to work under the genre of 'noir. ' The screen play written by: John Van Druten, Walter Reisch & John L Balderston was languor in contrast. Cukor blatantly threw caution into the wind and entrusted the professional marriage of Kaper and Boyer 's talents unlike any twenty–first century director would. Call it foolhardiness, naivety or cinematology wisdom – fortunately, 'Gaslight ' floated. Better still, his foresightedness has catapulted 'Gaslight ' as being credible reading material for film students across the spectrum. Their scholarly aim is to strip back to the core of noir, once they comprehend the noir components you appreciate the honesty of the film noir genre and as epochs pass, herewith dawns a modern adaptation, notably... neo–noir with David Lynch 's 'Blue Velvet ' (1986). The growth mindset with effort certainly effort is key to achievements I think she really means that the more you show effort then you can get better grades.. • 11. African American Civil Rights Activists: Angela Davis Our Angela Davis is about an African American women who was focused on doing everything in her power to create peace, stop racism, and also promoting equality within the world. Angela fought for people to have equal civil rights in multiple ways. Angela Davis fought for civil rights by joining multiple associations and organizations that fought for equality and civil rights created for all. In my own words, civil rights is equal rights for citizens politically and socially. By stating this, I feel as though citizens should have equal rights politically and socially because everyone is the same but different at the same time. By having equality throughout the world; it would be a different society based off of equal civil rights politically and socially. Political equality is someone having the right to make their own decisions based off their own thoughts in politics. Social equality is someone not being influenced or assimulating into society or from society. Angela Davis and Feminism Essay Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, grandparents, pimps, prostitutes, straight people, gay people, lesbian people, Europeans, Asians, Indians, and Africans all have once thing in common: they are products of sexuality. Sexuality is the most common activity in the world, yet is considered taboo and "out of the norm" in modern society. Throughout history, people have been harassed, discriminated against, and shunned for their "sexuality". One person who knows this all too well is activist and author, Angela Davis. From her experiences, Davis has analyzed the weakness of global society in order to propose intellectual theories on how to change the perspective of sexuality. In 1969, Davis came back the America and joined several radical civil rights organizations. She was a member of the Communist Party, USA and a member of the Black Panther Party along with being an assistance professor at the University of California– Los Angeles (UCLA). Governor at the time, Ronald Reagan, tried to terminate her position as UCLA professor because of her Communist affiliation, but that was overturned. Yet, devastation struck only a few months later. August 7, 1970, a young black male, Johnathan Jackson held Superior Court Judge, Harold Haley, a prosecutor, and three jury members hostage. He eventually shot and killed Judge Haley and the prosecutor. Coincidentally, the pistol Johnathan Jackson used to kill the judge and prosecutor were bought by Angela Davis a day before the shooting; therefore, Angela Davis was put on a 13 week trial for murder, kidnapping and conspiracy charges. Since its inception in the early 1990's, the EU has moved major European countries towards economic cooperation. Lately, the fundamental and economical disparity of some of these countries, specifically Germany and France has caused dissent within the Union. The debate over fiscal policy, in particular, austerity implementation has left the two European powerhouses at odds on the best possible way to regain regional stability. This paper will seek to shed light on as to why these two countries have such differing views of austerity and to describe the issues that arise due to them. • 19. Summary Of Angela Liddel Angela Liddel stares forlornly out of the window in the limousine. Movies and novels often romanticize boarding school, but the concept is daunting to the sixteen year old. The Atlantic Ocean is rather unimpressive; nothing like she'd expected, and so far feels general disappointment amid arriving at Madame LeFoux's Academy for Exemplary Young Ladies. Angela wasn't certain what she was expecting, but this certainly wasn't it. She treks up the steps to the large mansion, uncertain of what would come next. Angela takes a deep breath, and sounds the large lion head knocker, and the door swings open. "Hello?" Angela calls out, but there is no response. She decides to search for the headmistress's office so that she might become more acquainted with the building. As she turns a corner she collides with a petite woman. "Pardon me, darling." She says, picking up her pocketbook from the ground. As she returns to standing, she sees Angela clasping on to her suitcase for dear life. "This must be the new student, Miss Liddel." The woman murmurs to herself. Her chestnut brown eyes smile fondly down at the student. "Yes, it's Angela Liddel." The girl says uncertainly, "Who might you be?" "Pleased to make acquaintances Miss Liddel, darling, I am Headmistress Ariadne LeFoux, but you may simply call me Madame. I am the headmistress. If you'd like to follow me, let's begin by giving you a tour of these grounds." The woman's grin is startling, as she doesn't seem the type to smile very often. The headmistress leads Angela to the dining hall, and as they approach the room, Madame pauses before throwing the double doors open. The dining hall is vast, with long wooden benches and identical long tables fill the room. It's a grand room, and ornate in style. "What sort of classes are available?" Angela asks, even more disappointed. This school intends to teach stuffy rich girls how to embroider and keep house. "A highly unusual education is in store for you, Miss Liddel, darling. We specialize in more... investigative skills and covert operations." Madame LeFoux replies, eying Angela's reaction cautiously. "Pardon, Madame. I don't understand... This is spy school?" Machiavelli wrote The Prince because he wanted to give Lorenzo The Magnificent, a book that highlights major keys to being a Prince and being one efficiently. Also, The Prince was written because to gain endeavor by the prince it is customary to give him something a person holds most valuable, Machiavelli held his knowledge most valuable. 2. The way 'Governments are Established and Held', is a theme in The Prince. Machiavelli says, 'The dominions thus acquired have either been previously accustomed to the rule of another prince, or else have been free states, and they are annexed either by force of arms of the prince himself, or of other, or else fall to him by good fortune or special ability.', he then further explains this topic in the next nine chapters. Another one of the major themes is "War'. Machiavelli explains how to use the methods of offense and defense in a war if a princes' foundation is stable for four chapters. Finally, 'Reputation' is a theme of The Prince. Throughout the last twelve chapters Machiavelli explains how you should act to keep in favor of your citizens. 3. The role of armies is to maintain its country's' defense through fortifications. This ensures security and stops enemies from attacking a prince's' country. 4. Machiavelli's advice is more realistic. He writes the 'real truth of the matter than to its imagination', compared to other writers that have, 'have imagined republics and principalities which have never been seen or known to exist in reality'. 5. Machiavelli says it is better for a prince to be both feared and loved, because men will love at free will and fear at the will of their prince, but a prince must rely solely on his power that he already has. It is possible for a prince to be both. A prince could show love by giving constant support for many of the citizens of his country, but should also be feared because he should give consequences to citizens who do not follow the rules of the country. 6. • 23. Analysis Of The Paschal Mystery And Saint Angela Merici Around the world, the Catholic faith is celebrated daily in similar and different ways. The Catholic Church throughout the world shares the same liturgy and arrangement but each Church interprets the Gospel differently. Whether it be the music, art located the church, symbols, or the delivery of the message, all services provide a different feeling. The Paschal Mystery is always remembered and portrayed during mass. My home Parish, Saint Angela Merici has a tall building with a very plain look to it but our priests are very skilled and tend to never disappoint. Servite's service was long and overextended due to the Friars being representative to the Servite order. The two celebrations run similarly but also have contrasts because of diversities within the church and its attendants. At Saint Angela Merici (SAM), there are 4 columns of wooden pews and a main altar constructed from granite. Above the altar is a floating crucifix with Christ on the cross. Along the walls of the church are art pieces depicting the stations of the cross. In contrast, Servite's mass is held in a theater with multiple rows of individual seats. The altar appears to be a folding table with a cloth covering the legs. SAM has a very plain interior design, with two statues. One statue is of Mary and the other is of Joseph. Due to Servite's emphasis on respecting Mary, there is only one statue which is of Mary. SAM's exterior is very tall and narrow while Servite's theater looks like any other theater ... • 31. Identifying Requirements For High Level Policy Makers Phase One – Identifying Requirements 1. High level policy makers are not only concerned with intelligence; they are constantly concerned with reelection. A policy maker who is identifying requirements could decide to focus resources on an issue that is less vital to the nation's security in order to obtain information that will get them reelected. High level threats could be pushed to the side in order to address an issue that is not necessarily as vital but is a hot topic in news media, and public opinion. This would be followed down by the intelligence community and the more dangerous area or individual threat could be left unmonitored. 2. Often briefings and communication between high level officials and analysts are hectic times and communication of requirements could not be communicated clearly. A policy maker giving feedback on collection objectives or asking questions could be perceived by the intelligence official as requesting more information when really that policy maker has enough information to make a decision. This is an issue when two people come from different backgrounds and use different phrasing, objectives could be easily misunderstood. Time and resources would then be wasted to gather intelligence on issues that are no longer relevant. 3. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one who tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire plot of the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the fact that she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela "nailed [Santiago's name] to the wall with her well–aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written" (Márquez 47). Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself from the fate Angela's words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela's statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her brothers. In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared "that they would have done it again a thousand times over for the same reason" (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in committing the murders, Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in defense of Angela's honor. By making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it is clear that they will end up doing something to protect their sister's purity. • 47. Blues Boundaries And The Blues Angela Davis Analysis Rebekah Scarborough 15 December 2017 History of the Blues Professor House Did Angela Davis get it wrong? As a consequence of slavery and segregation, Angela Y. Davis contends in ''Blues Legacies and Black Feminism,'' her study of the recordings of Billie Holiday and the blues vaudevillians Gertrude (Ma) Rainey and Bessie Smith, ''black social consciousness has been overdetermined by race,'' with too little attention paid to sex and virtually none to class. Davis, a professor of something called the ''history of consciousness'' at the University of California, Santa Cruz, would have a hard time selling such a notion to this country's black poor, who are understandably inclined to blame the legacy of white racism for their poverty. But she's right in step with the more radical of her academic colleagues, even if her ingrained cultural nationalism prevents her from joining them in dismissing race as an arbitrary social construct with no basis in anthropology. Race, according to current academic thinking, is a smokescreen that has drawn discussion away from the more crucial issue of class. If this sounds suspiciously like Marxism, it is Marxism gone post–modern: a tool for the analysis of literary and other ''texts,'' not necessarily a call for the exploited masses to rise. One of the side effects of this recent trend has been to restore the credibility of certain black

Thus with the Greco–European crisis being the forefront, Merkel pushed for greater private–sector investors to absorb some of the rescue burden. She saw to it that European Union bureaucrats went to Athens where they quietly insisted on simple but important things like shortened vacations for the civil servants, higher taxes on swimming pools and lower expenditures on public housing (Applebaum, 2013). In consideration of these reforms, Angela Merkel stated at political rally in Germany "It's not just about getting any further into debt in countries such as Greece, Spain and Portugal, people should not be allowed to receive pension before their German counterparts. We all have to put in some effort. This is important, we cannot have the same currency, yet some have an abundance of holiday leave and others have very little."The German Chancellor continues "We cannot stand by these countries and allow them to act the way they have up until now. Germany will help, but only if these countries demonstrate they are putting in the necessary effort"(Asymptotix, 2011). Merkel made multiple attempts with banks and governments to reform policies to prevent taxpayers from absorbing the burden of paying bailouts to the indebted countries. • 56. Angela Carter’s The Bood Chamber Essay In Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, the theme of transformation appears throughout the short story cycle. The hero/heroine's virginity acts as a source of strength that protects them from harm. Their lack of fear also saves them from death. Virginity acts as power of potentia, either literally or symbolically and results in a release of an observed transformative power. The bloody chamber serves a different symbolic purpose of transformation for Beauty in "The Courtship of Mr Lyon", the heroine in "The Tiger's Bride" and the Countess in "The Lady of the House of Love". Each of these characters will embark on a journey that questions their selfhood in circumstances that are presented to them and ultimately each will go through a ... The Beast allows Beauty to go back to London to be with her father under the condition that she must return before winter is over. While in London, she, "[sends] him flowers, white roses in return for the ones he had given her; and when she left the florist, she experienced a sudden sense of perfect freedom, as if she had jus escaped from an unknown danger" (48). With this gesture, Beauty feels all her debts are settled and she no longer has an obligation to the Beast. When she puts on her robe of fur, she becomes her own beast, showing a parallel between her and the Beast. Beauty undergoes a physical alteration essential for her negative transformation, due to her susceptibility to corruptibility. Since "she was learning at the end of her adolescence, how to be a spoiled child and that pearly skin of hers was plumping out, a little, with high living and compliments" (48–49). Beauty transformed into a snobbish woman who became obsessed with materialistic objects and her looks. Her epiphytic moment for redemption occurs when the spaniel is at the door, thinking the Beast has come to collect her. She acts as a supplementary element, who offers companionship to the Beast. • 58. Pursuit Of Power In Macbeth Seeking power is exhilarating but it can be someone's undoing. The hunt for power can oftentimes lead to different external and internal consequences, which can also depend on the person or environment. Shakespeare's Macbeth focuses on a character who eventually becomes obsessed with the pursuit of power, and trying to control the power that he already has. His power affects him and everyone around him. This act of trying to collect as much power as possible will ruin him, ultimately being his downfall. The real life example of Vladimir Putin showcases that he and people around him have also suffered the the consequences evident in Macbeth. Many times, the pursuit of power will lead to psychological impacts such as feeling fear and guilt which can show on the outside as delusion and insanity. Macbeth has hallucinations based around guilt and to others he seems delusional and insane. After he hires the three murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance, they come back unsuccessful, only managing to kill Banquo. He is haunted by a hallucination of an apparition of (supposedly) Banquo and says "(to GHOST) Thou canst not say I did it. Never shake. Thy gory locks at me./ Gentlemen, rise. His highness is not well" (Shakespeare 3.4.61–63). Without being prompted by the ghost, Macbeth responds and another noble is weary of his actions. He kills Banquo because Banquo suspects that Macbeth did something horrible (like killing the king) to become king. Macbeth wants to keep the power that he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She has paved the way for many generations of women to have a voice when they once wouldn't. It is essential to realize that one can't discuss feminism and black power without discussing Angela Davis. The reason I chose Angela Davis is because she is a household name that I have always heard, but had never known much of. In her early years she was exposed to activism through her mother, Sallye Davis, she was involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), at a time in which it was very dangerous to do so. Her mother was also heavily involved with the Communist Party, she was involved in the civil right's movement and was an organizer for the Southern Negro Congress. Since she grew up around such a heavy influence of Communist ideals, Davis developed a mindset geared towards equal rights at a very young age. Davis' views started coming through in her academics at a very young age as well, in high school Davis did everything she could to start to an interracial study group, the group was "harassed, and then disbanded by the police." Eventually Davis would go onto start herself a legacy that is greatly inspired by her mother. She would join the Black Panther Party after a horrible tragedy. In 1963, four black girls were killed in a bombing of a church, the bombing took place in her hometown and it became known as the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing. This sparked a passion in Davis for philosophy because she was personally affected by the bombing, she knew two of the people killed in it. But, feminism is by its nature a complex notion and one can't fully appreciate its effectiveness forgetting the aspect of ethnic discriminations in the country (Collin, p.p 47). Race matters exist in diverse places and at unusual times under extensively unreliable circumstances. It is different from white feminism as they have managed to attain their own freedom in a different way. This was because Black women were hardly seen as an active figure in such movements over the history. Currently, the issues of black feminism are hardly discussed at any forum. One must agree with the fact that black women have now managed to get significant positions in many fields. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, it provides the black women a supremacy over the white women in terms of physical and mental health. I intend to argue that rather following the white role models, black women can craft a strong black identity by expressing their natural talent with least glamorous ways of expression. Currently, the image of black women in the media is badly intoxicated by the news of domestic violence, strong physique, bad attitudes and misery of being beaten by men (Brinkley et al, p.p 113). At the same time, when they went to California, they did not have to leave everything behind, it was a choice they made. After all, as Esperanza herself said in the book, "Do not ever be afraid to start over."
