Analysis Of Saint Teresa
In "Religious Experiences", Saint Teresa argued that her two experiences were valid because she
was conscious of the lord's presence. In this paper, I will be exploring the two religious experiences
Saint Teresa encountered while analyzing the argument about the epistemic value the experiences
could possibly have. The first religious experience Saint Teresa had, she did not see Jesus, but was
only conscious of Christ's presence. Saint Teresa was petrified at first. All she could do was cry with
fear; when the lord spoke one word to her she was filled with feelings of happiness and was free
from fear. She later went to her confessor to tell him about the incident that had occurred. Saint
Teresa stated,
"I told him that I did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second religious experience Saint Teresa had differed from the first one. When God revealed
himself to her it was not just a feeling of his presence. She claimed to have seen him with the eyes
of the soul and body. When Jesus revealed himself to Saint Teresa, it was quite gradual. It started
with his hands. A few days later he revealed his face, then later revealed his entire body to her. She
was again fearful at first, but the indescribable beauty took her fear away.
"Your Reverence may suppose that it would have needed no great effort to behold those hands and
that beauteous face.... I began to feel such certainty and security that my fear was soon lost," (St.
Teresa 42).
By physically seeing Jesus, it gave her an even stronger conformation that the experiences were
valid and not from her imagination. The beauty was too indescribable not to be genuine. When she
was questioned, she defended herself by saying,
"If the devil were doing this to delude me and drag me down to hell, he would make use of means
which so completely defeated their own ends by taking away my vices...making me virtuous and
strong; for it was quite clear to me that these experiences had immediately made me a different
person," (St. Teresa 43).
She truly believed that these experiences were unquestionable. She explained how she had changed
her for the better and became a stronger individual, and that her prayers were being answered
differently from

A brief biography
Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on 26 August 1910 and baptised on 27 August
1910 in the town of Skopje, Macedonia. However, she always wrote her birthday as 27 August
because to her, the day of her baptism was always more important than the day of her birth.
Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who devoted her life to serving the poor and destitute
around the world. She spent many years teaching in India, where she founded the Missionaries of
Charity, a religious congregation devoted to helping those in great need.
After several years of deteriorating health, where she suffered from heart, lung and kidney problems,
Mother Teresa died aged 87 on September 5 1997.

As was the custom for Loreto nuns, she took on the title of "Mother" upon making her final vows.
So it was then she became known as Mother Teresa. After that she still continued to teach at Saint
Mary's, and in 1944 she became the school's principal.
Her second calling came on 10 September 1946 and forever transformed her life. As she was riding
the train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills Christ spoke to her and told her to abandon her
teaching and work in the slums of Calcutta.
She received 6 months basic medical training and then went out into the slums of Calcutta. She had

Mother Teresa
For generations, people around the world of all various social classes have lived very differently.
People are wealthy and have things given to them, or poor and working hard for basic needs. Some
were unlucky and born with defects that would affect them their whole lives. Others were blessed to
live a healthy life. There are very few people around the around the world that would take time from
their life to help people consistently. However, Mother Teresa was a hero because she was one
extraordinary woman who devoted her life to help all kinds of people around the world.
Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, also known as Mother Teresa, was born in Skopje, the current capital of
the Republic of Macedonia, on August 26th 1910. She came from a wealthy family and was the
youngest of three. Her father passed away when she was eight years old and was raised by her
widowed mother. "She practiced Roman Catholicism and was an illustrious member in her church's
youth group. Shortly after, Agnes was responsive in Missionaries work. In 1928, at eighteen years
old, Agnes got her "first call" from God to aid the people of Ireland" (Balado 6). She didn't have a
mentor to look up to, and it is considered that God was the person she cherished and looked up to. In

The Assassination Of Mother Teresa
It was September the 10th, 1964 and World war 2 had only just come to a conclusion. Mother Teresa
sat on a piping hot train, on a hot summers day in Calcutta. She tried taking up as little space as
possible to avoid being crowded which she was to a great extent and deeply swelter. She was on a
train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills for a retreat. On this train ride Christ spoke to Mother
Teresa. She referred to this as 'her second calling' and in her words it was 'a vocation to give up,
even at Loreto where I was very happy, to go out into the streets to serve'. "I want Indian Nuns,
Missionaries of Charity, who would be my fire of love amongst the poor, the sick, the dying and the
little children," she heard Christ say to her on the train in those very words. "You are I know the
most incapable person – weak and sinful but just because you are that'– I want to use you for my
glory. Wilt thou refuse?". A sensation of happiness rushed through her, even though she had been
called weak she was honoured. She was very quick to share her vision with her supporters, friends
and members of the Loreto sisters that she worked with. She was questioned about her call, and all
the intentions and aims she had for doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took much time, and patience. After nearly a year and a half of pleading, in January 1948 she
finally received approval from the local Archbishop at the time: Ferdinand Périer to be able to
complete what Christ had asked her to do. She immediately started working, and after 6 months of
simple medical training, she left for her journey for the first time into Calcutta's slums with no more
specific goal than to aid "the unwanted, the unloved, the uncared

Leadership And Leadership Of Mother Teresa
Leadership is critical. It is the key to how everything is started. A leader is a person who is willing to
sacrifice their lives and their reputations to assist someone or something that needs help. One person
took the less fortunate and the sick under her wing. She created and established hope for those who
had lost all hope. Mother Teresa dedicated her life to all those who needed help and sanctuary. She
established many places and groups that focused on helping the poor, she was selfless through
devastation, and she made a name for not only herself, but for the poor and sick as well. Mother
Teresa was born in Skopje Ottoman Empire, today known as Macedonia, on August 26, 1910
(McCarthy). Her mother showed her the kindness of her heart and gave her a new outlook on life.
After realizing what life truly meant she became a nun at the age of eighteen giving her life up to
God (Mother Teresa Timeline). Soon after becoming a nun she made several personal vows. One of
these vows was to obey everything God had told her to, no matter the extremity (McCarthy). One
day Mother Teresa said she heard God. God had told Mother Teresa she needed to serve only the
poorest of his creatures, the destitute, the dying, and the lonely for the rest of her life (Parks). Once
she said her goodbyes, and packed her things she went on her way. Mother Teresa decided to go to
the streets of India to serve those in need.

Organization And Development Of Mother Teresa
Organization & Development
The Catholic Church has a major role in going to the peripheries. Many people who have gone to
the periphery and beyond have all been part of the Catholic Church. Church is not only a place were
we go to pray and have Mass it is also part of us. As a community we all make up different functions
of the church. I believe that going to the periphery has a lot to do with believing and going to
Church because if you don't believe in yourself you can't accomplish anything. Another reason the
Church has a major role is that when you go to Church you don't feel like you have to go, but you
want to go. Many people throughout the world go To Church everyday and I believe in a way you
already at or beyond the periphery because you are going beyond the limit of expectation. Mother
Teresa is a great example of a saint who went to the periphery because she went beyond the limit by
helping millions of people throughout her life time, and after.
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta did many wondrous works throughout her lifetime. She saved and
nourished many people back to health; Catholics and non–Catholics. Mother Teresa devoted her life
to God and worked really hard to please him. Even though she had health problems and a lot of
setbacks she founded many foundations and helped billions of people throughout her lifetime.
Who was Mother Teresa? St. Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26th, 1910. She

Choose the two sections of Mother Tesresa's book that stuck out most, and explain
why they made an impact on you.
This book was so informative that it is so hard to pick only two parts that impacted me the most. If I
have to choose only two the first would be Chapter Eight, " The Poor and Rich in Love." As Mother
Theresa makes so many points in this section. The stories she tells about bringing the dying off the
streets to die in peace. This is so touching that these missionaries devote their lives to the poor. They
choose to be poor, and Mother Theresa talks about they choose to be poor to really understand and
feel what these poor people are experiencing. The stories she tells of bringing dying people in ...

I never really knew what these missionaries do, and it just fills my heart that there are people in the
world that devote their lives to taking care of the homeless, feeding the starving, and helping the
dying. Where would our world be without these people? It is sad to even think about what the world
would be like without the sisters around to help all the people they do. It touches my heart to know
that these people are devoted through Jesus. On judgement day we all know that God will welcome
these missionaries to heaven with open arms. They devote their lives to do the work of Jesus, for
these are some of the most wonderful people on this earth.
The other topic I felt was interesting in the book, is when Mother Teresa speaks of her thoughts and
feelings on abortion. There are several sections in the book, where she talks about abortion. I do
agree with Mother Teresa's points on abortion. We are killing innocent children that God has
created. In one section where Mother Teresa is in an interview answering questions, one question
was referring to abortion. I want to quote her answer because it could not be answered in a better
way. Her answer was, "people are trying to be free to live their own life by destroying life. For me,
this is a painful sign that either the country is so poor that it cannot care for the lives that God has
created, or that people are making a tremendous mistake." I do agree with Mother Teresa on this
subject. There are so

Final Animal: Mother Teresa
Final Animal
For there to be a true leader, there needs to be knowledge, and in order to have knowledge, you need
history. Orwell exclaimed that the pigs are leaders but not very good ones. Unlike the pigs in Animal
Farm, Mother Teresa embodies the characteristics of a strong leader because she is helpful,
inspiring, and caring.
A characteristic that fits Mother Teresa is being helpful. She did what she could so the society would
feel better. The pigs in this story are selfish and cruel. The pigs take advantage of the power that is
given to them. A true leader should never be given power but to be earned. As Orwell exclaims
about Napoleon's name, "Napoleon was now never spoken of simply as Napoleon. He was always

other hand on inspiring others to do the right thing. Napoleon is manipulating other animals so he
would not be punished "that the Sixth Commandment decreed no animal shall kill any other animal"
(Orwell 54). Then soon the commandment was changed to "No animal shall kill any other animal
WITHOUT CAUSE" because the leader broke that rule (Orwell 54). A leader should never enforce a
rule if he or she knows it is going to be broken. Also, the animals are to trying to help Napoleon try
to get out of trouble by doing something bad. Mother Teresa did a lot so people would remember her
" By popular consensus she was a saint for the times, and a spate of almost adoring books and
articles started to canonize her in the 1980s and well into the 1990s"("Mother" ). She was influenced
to help others but she knew she would have to die at one point, so she wrote books and also had
other ideas on making more moments so people would remember her. Mother Teresa still helps
people in many ways, even though she is not with us at the moment. Mother Teresa has left many

Short Essay On Mother Teresa
"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier."–Mother
Teresa. She was always loving people no matter what and she would always help out anyone in
need. She dedicated her life in helping homeless, the sick , the poor and the dying. Mother Teresa
was a petite woman who spent most of her life caring for the sick and dying. She fed, washed, and
cared for anyone who needed it. Mother Teresa's use of unique missionary work in India was an
effective method for change because she provided for the impoverished, improved healthcare for the
poor, and established a safe haven for everyone.
Mother Teresa devoted her life to helping the poor, sick, needy, and dying people in India. In 1948 she
asked the Pope if she could quit teaching so she could help the people in need and he finally said
"yes" after a year of lobbying. In the year 1952 she was able to open the first available hospice in
Calcutta where she stayed with the people who were living there until they died. Next year she
opened the first orphanage which took care of handicapped children and the children of dying
mothers. One day she stumbled upon a lady whose flesh was being eaten by mice. So she took the
lady and stayed with her until she died (Demkovich). Meeting with the abandoned women in streets
of Calcutta, made Mother Teresa take one of the tasks she loved ... Show more content on

Mother Teresa's Missionary of Charities had the effect today which is that 500,000 families are

on the streets of Calcutta, have ended their lives in one of her hospices. Mother Teresa had a huge

Many saints and other people have decided to assist poor people from around the world that are

The Characters Of Mother Teresa
Usually, peacemakers in society are not readily known to a large extent because the meaning of their
actions is sometimes not recognized. However, it was evident that Mother Teresa was indeed a
peacemaker by her love for the poor and passion stood out to many. Her life story has convicted and
inspired many throughout history. Notwithstanding, her humble demeanor and sterling example
continues to influence others around the world. According to the thesaurus, a peacemaker is
someone who settles problems. Subsequently, peacemakers are people who breathe grace.
Furthermore, peacemakers allow themselves to be used as instruments to relieve anger, improve
understanding, promote justice and encourage others. Therefore, the writer believes that Mother
Teresa truly exemplified the character of a peacemaker (Sageleaf, 2015).

She began by starting an open–air school for the children of Calcutta. She did not have any funding

In 1948, Mother Teresa came across the first woman she cared for. She found a dying woman that

hospital, but they refused to admit her. She then would not leave the hospital until they accepted the
lady, and stayed by her side until she died. From that point on she dedicated the majority of her life
to caring for the poor.
Just two years later in 1950, Mother Teresa and her associates were approved within the archdiocese
of Calcutta as the Missionary of Charity. After hearing this she went to the town hall to ask for a
place she could take these people and care for them. An employee of health services took her to the

became known as the home of the dying. Within 24 hours Mother Teresa and her fellow sisters

There, they were cared for, during the last moments of their lives.

Saint Mother Teresa de Calcutta is a saint because of all the work she did to help the poor and
suffering, trying to make things better for them all. Her relationship with Jesus and God was very
close I believe since she became a nun and joined the convent, she also mentioned how it was her
calling from God to help the poor. I chose Saint Teresa de Calcutta as my saint because her life story
is extremely inspiring to me, she devoted her life to God in which she became a nun and also helped

Essay On Mother Teresa
"If you can't feed one hundred people, then just feed one." This is just one of the many quotes
Mother Teresa gave to the people about her life works of helping people who are less fortunate.
Mother Teresa devoted her life to caring for people who needed help. It was not always easy for
Mother Teresa. She was taunted by others for helping the poor. Despite her agony, Mother Teresa
delivered global charity and kindness, demonstrated saintly intercessions, and attracted miracles;
consequently, she was awarded with a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, and continues to inspire all

on August 26, 1910 in Skopje (Mother Teresa – Biographical). She was born into a family that was
known for helping all (Wellman). Her family comforted the poor, the sick, and drunk people who
had been abandoned by their families. She started school at age six and felt for those who had
sinned. At age 18, Gonxha left her home in September 1928 to go to the Institute of the Blessed

made her first vows in 1931 in Darjeeling, honoring both St. Teresa of Avila and St. Therese of

Mother Teresa Acceptance Speech
Let us all thank God for this meeting ("Transcript of Mother Teresa´s Acceptance Speech"). I am
Mother Teresa, the founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity and Patron Saint for
Doubters (Eisenstadt–Evans, "Mother Teresa's canonization: She is the 'Patron saint for doubters'").
I was born in Skopje, (the capital of the Republic of Macedonia) Albania in 1910. I'm a Roman
Catholic and from the age of 18 began to study to become a nun in Ireland (Gray, 60). In September
of 1946, I received a calling from God saying I had to leave the convent and, "help the poor by
living among them," (Gray, 60). This led me to Calcutta, India where I founded the Order of the
Missionaries of Charity to restore dignity in the souls of the underprivileged, degraded, and ill
("Biography Mother Teresa"). I've been criticized for my methods of maintaining my centers but
have also been awarded the highest honor, the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1979 (Eisenstadt–Evans,
"Mother Teresa's canonization: She is the 'Patron saint for doubters'"). My life being surrounded by
such violence has brought me here with you all today. My devotion to helping the helpless and
forgiving the unforgivable leads me to believe that all people are embodiments of Christ and deserve
to be loved and seen as equals. With this, William Golding is guilty of libel against the human race
since all people are born pure and any malevolent acts of violence are results of society's teachings.

Imagine life without Mother Teresa, who would have helped all those unstable people? Where
would those people be right now without her? If she would have not done what she did many people

went to Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin. She started to teach at an all female school in
1937. Then on September 10, 1946 Mother Teresa got a "second calling from Christ" to help the

Saint Teresa of Avila, also known as Saint Teresa of Jesus, a Spanish nun and author, was born in

A historical figure that has influenced me personally and the way that I think is Mother Teresa of

so transparent and so loving to humanity. She also had so much love towards God that she is a true
example to human kind. There are many ways how she influenced my thinking the first is her love
to others and her determination. Mother Teresa was a humble woman that since a child committed to

thinking because sometimes things can get hard and you feel like there is not end to the tunnel. I

The Influence of Religion on Mother Teresa Essay
Religion can impact a person's life through the teachings, and the values and attitudes presented.
The effect which religion can give can either be positive or negative. The effect of the Catholic
religion on mother Teresa was a positive influence, an influence whichever inspired others to follow
her. Agnes Gonxha, or 'flower bud', the translation of Gonxha, was the birth name which Mother

This lead her to follow God's will, and become a teacher at St Mary's school, and later become the
principle of this school. At the school Mother Teresa, taught history, english and a couple of other

Mother Teresa's second calling was the call to care for the people in the slums of Calcutta, but to do
so she needed permission from her superiors, as at this stage Mother Teresa was the principle at St
Mary's. In the following year, Mother Teresa began her work which obeyed God's call fro her to

and followed the work which God led her to do, her lives work, and influenced her into making

Teresa's standing does not consist in what she tells us about herself but in what she tells us about
God and his ways with us. Her life and her accomplishments have earned her many labels, reformer,
author, foundress, doctor of the church and saint and these, together with her persona have made her
one of the great women of all ages. She was born, bred and lived during the most harrowing period
in the history of Roman Catholicism, the age of Reformation and Counter–Reformation. When
Teresa was possibly two in 1517, somewhere in the north of Germany, a man by the name of Martin
Luther was calling for reform in the Catholic Church. At that time, nobody would have guessed or
known that this two year old would one day contribute to turn the tides of the Catholic Reformation,

What is most consistent with her autobiography is she was born into a family that was devoted and

beg them, out of love of God, to cut off our heads there." Apparently they did not get too far as they

The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa Essay
The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa
In August 1948, at the age of 38, Mother Teresa decided to adventure into the poorest
neighborhoods of Calcutta, India, in order to live out her utopian dream by providing food, care,
education, and shelter for the poor. Feeding people the Word of God; clothing them with dignity;
educating them with knowledge, peace, truth, justice and love; nursing the mind and spirit; and
sheltering them with a heart that understands. ("servants") I believe that a utopian vision is any
vision that follows natural law, creates happiness in the community, and is feasible. Mother Teresa's
visions are, in fact, effective utopian visions. Mother Teresa's visions included living a simple life,

Her intentions more than her actions should be looked at and they were to love and treat everyone
equally. "When Mother Teresa looked into the eyes of those she literally pulled out of the gutter, she
saw Jesus Christ. She said, "They are Jesus. Everyone is Jesus in a distressing disguise." ("servant")
Mother Teresa teaches that the best way to live a simple life is by giving up all you have and joining
those that suffer physically and financially. She says, "When all you got is all you've got, all that's
left is to be yourself and you can only receive. And that, in a sense, is why the poor are blessed,
because they know what really matters". (M.T. Simple) If a simple life helps one to know yourself
better than it can also help you discover the natural law. (M.T. Simple) Poverty seems to me to
degrade a sense of self, causing the poor person to feel worthless and incapable. Poverty can be
beautiful in that you are not hiding behind someone and all you can do is receive, but I think it is
important not to mystify poverty like it is so glorious when really it is not. Mother Teresa says,
"Poverty is a wonderful gift because it gives us freedom ––– it means we have fewer obstacles to
God." (M.T. Simple) I think education gives us

The Indian Media Used Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa is one of the most written about and publicized women of the 20th century. She is the
second most advertised religious celebrity after Pope John Paul II. Due to her fame, many people
willingly step forward to offer their support and praise her work.
The Indian media used Mother Teresa as a figure for a movement towards bettering the lives of
those in the lower castes. They believe that if the Indian people were seeing a white, foreign woman
caring for their family and neighbors that many would take up the cause to help as well. Mother
Teresa's presence was also helpful during the political unrest of India. She was the symbol of a
better country during India's fight for independence from Britain, the separation from Pakistan in
1947, the Civil War of 1971, and the creation of Bangladesh. Mother Teresa was proving that one
could give up one's entire life and need no material possessions and spread love and support to all.
She lived a simple life, surrounded in strong faith, while believing in the compassion of humans.
However, not everyone believed that Mother Teresa had proven herself as a 'living saint.' Many
people questioned her health, her mental sanity, and her work. Throughout her life, Mother Teresa
suffered from ill health. While not much is known about her childhood and her health during this
time, it is known that the Bojaxhiu family traveled each year to comfort Mother Teresa's poor health.

In doing this she gave love and respect to the poor individuals who needed it. Mother Teresa slowly

Analysis Of Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa has won it all, from the hearts of even the non–Christians to the Nobel Peace Prize,
and posthumously, a prestige that most of us nor wish nor dream of, one which elevated her above
us all: sainthood. In Mother Teresa's canonization, she is immortalized by Pope Francis as an icon of
love and compassion, highlighting her commitment to saving lives, claiming her "a generous
dispenser of divine mercy," and her whole life "an eloquent witness to God's closeness to the poorest
of the poor" (Francis). In this essay, I hope to, knowing well that I am going against the idols of
hundreds of millions, show you that everything said by the Pope is very far from the truth, and that
there is perhaps no better example of undeserved glorification and false idolization than the wicked
old lady, Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Mother Teresa was indeed committed to saving lives, even at all costs. She was a strenuous advocate
of anti–abortion, defending her position not for moral reasons, but to enforce the centuries old
Vatican's population policy established by the Catholic Church and implemented by the
predecessors of, and, Pope Francis himself. Even when working in the slums of Calcutta, a place
swelteringly populous, her strict right–wing views of anti–abortion didn't budge. Her rationale, very
conservatively catholic–ly: "God has created a world big enough for all the lives He wishes to be
born. It is only our hearts that are not big enough to want them and accept them..." This way of
reasoning becomes rather tricky, especially given the existence of an omnibenevolent God, in the
case of rape victims and mothers facing risks in childbirth who, in places like the slums of Calcutta,
can not afford any medical attention. What Mother Teresa is suggesting, in other words, is the
mother sacrifice her life for the child. One can find something beautiful in this. Emotions will lead
us to point to the unconditional love a mother has for her child and leave us emotionally disheveled
and maybe also inspired. But rationality should tell us that in the slums of Calcutta, where each and
every family is overcrowded and living far below poverty line, replacing the death of a mother with
a new baby only adds to their predicament. It

Mother Teresa continued her uses of pathos in her speech by recalling a past experience she had
with a poor woman. She reflected on the poor people as great people which allowed the audience to
see them as something other than a stereotype. She remembered how the poor woman thanked her
and many others about the importance of abstaining and having self–control in regards to having
children. As she died, the woman looked at Mother Teresa, said
'Thank you", and died with a smile on her face. She told her audience this story to get them to see a
side of people that they didn't necessarily know about. They got to see how this woman was poor

Mother Teresa closed her speech by repeating her call to action and doing so in a way that affects
the audience's emotion. She told them to remain faithful to God and to give until it hurts. She said,
"Let us make that one point: That no child will be unwanted, and also that we meet each other
always with a smile, especially when it was difficult to smile", reflecting on the idea that peace
begins within their own hearts. She concludes her speech claiming, "If you become a burning light

that peace is within them and that they should be the ones with such a wonderful award. She blesses
her audience which allows them to feel the love and care from Mother Teresa herself and from her

The reformation performed by Teresa of Avila created an evident change as she struggled against the
fact that men were only able do things such as reforming the church. It was extremely unusual for
women to make significant changes thus, it was very much a start of women gaining power in
religious aspects. Another achievement that led to a change in Catholics was Teresa's writings and
books. Her books were about her travels, reformation and establishment of convents and were
guidance for the other nuns/Catholics. After 25 years, in the Carmelite convent, Teresa established a
small convent in Avila called St Joseph's and this was the beginning of Teresa establishing many
other convents allowing other females to also become nuns. St Teresa also found that some of the
church was corrupt and tried to bring it back to focusing on the primitive rule so that Catholics could
enjoy all that God has to offer. Although this was successful Teresa was unable to remain in this
place of prayer, for the rest of her life, so she decided to travel across Spain, establishing new
convents and followed her reform vision of the Discalced Carmelite life. Hence, it is clearly
illustrated that Teresa of Avila changed the way many catholic saw the world by using just her
actions and

Saint Teresa's Religious Experiences Analyzed

  • 1. Analysis Of Saint Teresa In "Religious Experiences", Saint Teresa argued that her two experiences were valid because she was conscious of the lord's presence. In this paper, I will be exploring the two religious experiences Saint Teresa encountered while analyzing the argument about the epistemic value the experiences could possibly have. The first religious experience Saint Teresa had, she did not see Jesus, but was only conscious of Christ's presence. Saint Teresa was petrified at first. All she could do was cry with fear; when the lord spoke one word to her she was filled with feelings of happiness and was free from fear. She later went to her confessor to tell him about the incident that had occurred. Saint Teresa stated, "I told him that I did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second religious experience Saint Teresa had differed from the first one. When God revealed himself to her it was not just a feeling of his presence. She claimed to have seen him with the eyes of the soul and body. When Jesus revealed himself to Saint Teresa, it was quite gradual. It started with his hands. A few days later he revealed his face, then later revealed his entire body to her. She was again fearful at first, but the indescribable beauty took her fear away. "Your Reverence may suppose that it would have needed no great effort to behold those hands and that beauteous face.... I began to feel such certainty and security that my fear was soon lost," (St. Teresa 42). By physically seeing Jesus, it gave her an even stronger conformation that the experiences were valid and not from her imagination. The beauty was too indescribable not to be genuine. When she was questioned, she defended herself by saying, "If the devil were doing this to delude me and drag me down to hell, he would make use of means which so completely defeated their own ends by taking away my vices...making me virtuous and strong; for it was quite clear to me that these experiences had immediately made me a different person," (St. Teresa 43). She truly believed that these experiences were unquestionable. She explained how she had changed her for the better and became a stronger individual, and that her prayers were being answered differently from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Mother Teresa Research Paper A brief biography Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on 26 August 1910 and baptised on 27 August 1910 in the town of Skopje, Macedonia. However, she always wrote her birthday as 27 August because to her, the day of her baptism was always more important than the day of her birth. Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who devoted her life to serving the poor and destitute around the world. She spent many years teaching in India, where she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to helping those in great need. After several years of deteriorating health, where she suffered from heart, lung and kidney problems, Mother Teresa died aged 87 on September 5 1997. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As was the custom for Loreto nuns, she took on the title of "Mother" upon making her final vows. So it was then she became known as Mother Teresa. After that she still continued to teach at Saint Mary's, and in 1944 she became the school's principal. Her second calling came on 10 September 1946 and forever transformed her life. As she was riding the train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills Christ spoke to her and told her to abandon her teaching and work in the slums of Calcutta. She received 6 months basic medical training and then went out into the slums of Calcutta. She had a specific goal which was to aid the unwanted, the unloved and the uncared ... • 5. Mother Teresa By Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu Janvi Patel Mrs. Frahme English 10 22 January 2015 Mother Teresa For generations, people around the world of all various social classes have lived very differently. People are wealthy and have things given to them, or poor and working hard for basic needs. Some were unlucky and born with defects that would affect them their whole lives. Others were blessed to live a healthy life. There are very few people around the around the world that would take time from their life to help people consistently. However, Mother Teresa was a hero because she was one extraordinary woman who devoted her life to help all kinds of people around the world. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, also known as Mother Teresa, was born in Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia, on August 26th 1910. She came from a wealthy family and was the youngest of three. Her father passed away when she was eight years old and was raised by her widowed mother. "She practiced Roman Catholicism and was an illustrious member in her church's youth group. Shortly after, Agnes was responsive in Missionaries work. In 1928, at eighteen years old, Agnes got her "first call" from God to aid the people of Ireland" (Balado 6). • 7. The Assassination Of Mother Teresa It was September the 10th, 1964 and World war 2 had only just come to a conclusion. Mother Teresa sat on a piping hot train, on a hot summers day in Calcutta. She tried taking up as little space as possible to avoid being crowded which she was to a great extent and deeply swelter. She was on a train from Calcutta to the Himalayan foothills for a retreat. On this train ride Christ spoke to Mother Teresa. She referred to this as 'her second calling' and in her words it was 'a vocation to give up, even at Loreto where I was very happy, to go out into the streets to serve'. "I want Indian Nuns, Missionaries of Charity, who would be my fire of love amongst the poor, the sick, the dying and the little children," she heard Christ say to her on the train in those very words. "You are I know the most incapable person – weak and sinful but just because you are that'– I want to use you for my glory. Wilt thou refuse?". A sensation of happiness rushed through her, even though she had been called weak she was honoured. She was very quick to share her vision with her supporters, friends and members of the Loreto sisters that she worked with. She was questioned about her call, and all the intentions and aims she had for doing it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It took much time, and patience. After nearly a year and a half of pleading, in January 1948 she finally received approval from the local Archbishop at the time: Ferdinand Périer to be able to complete what Christ had asked her to do. • 9. Leadership And Leadership Of Mother Teresa Leadership is critical. It is the key to how everything is started. A leader is a person who is willing to sacrifice their lives and their reputations to assist someone or something that needs help. One person took the less fortunate and the sick under her wing. She created and established hope for those who had lost all hope. Mother Teresa dedicated her life to all those who needed help and sanctuary. She established many places and groups that focused on helping the poor, she was selfless through devastation, and she made a name for not only herself, but for the poor and sick as well. Mother Teresa was born in Skopje Ottoman Empire, today known as Macedonia, on August 26, 1910 (McCarthy). Her mother showed her the kindness of her heart and gave her a new outlook on life. After realizing what life truly meant she became a nun at the age of eighteen giving her life up to God (Mother Teresa Timeline). Soon after becoming a nun she made several personal vows. One of these vows was to obey everything God had told her to, no matter the extremity (McCarthy). One day Mother Teresa said she heard God. God had told Mother Teresa she needed to serve only the poorest of his creatures, the destitute, the dying, and the lonely for the rest of her life (Parks). Once she said her goodbyes, and packed her things she went on her way. Mother Teresa decided to go to the streets of India to serve those in need. • 11. Organization And Development Of Mother Teresa Organization & Development The Catholic Church has a major role in going to the peripheries. Many people who have gone to the periphery and beyond have all been part of the Catholic Church. Church is not only a place were we go to pray and have Mass it is also part of us. As a community we all make up different functions of the church. I believe that going to the periphery has a lot to do with believing and going to Church because if you don't believe in yourself you can't accomplish anything. Another reason the Church has a major role is that when you go to Church you don't feel like you have to go, but you want to go. Many people throughout the world go To Church everyday and I believe in a way you already at or beyond the periphery because you are going beyond the limit of expectation. Mother Teresa is a great example of a saint who went to the periphery because she went beyond the limit by helping millions of people throughout her life time, and after. St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta did many wondrous works throughout her lifetime. She saved and nourished many people back to health; Catholics and non–Catholics. Mother Teresa devoted her life to God and worked really hard to please him. Even though she had health problems and a lot of setbacks she founded many foundations and helped billions of people throughout her lifetime. Who was Mother Teresa? St. Teresa was born in Skopje, Macedonia on August 26th, 1910. She didn't originally go by Mother Teresa, her birth name was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Mother Teresa Essay Choose the two sections of Mother Tesresa's book that stuck out most, and explain why they made an impact on you. This book was so informative that it is so hard to pick only two parts that impacted me the most. If I have to choose only two the first would be Chapter Eight, " The Poor and Rich in Love." As Mother Theresa makes so many points in this section. The stories she tells about bringing the dying off the streets to die in peace. This is so touching that these missionaries devote their lives to the poor. They choose to be poor, and Mother Theresa talks about they choose to be poor to really understand and feel what these poor people are experiencing. The stories she tells of bringing dying people in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never really knew what these missionaries do, and it just fills my heart that there are people in the world that devote their lives to taking care of the homeless, feeding the starving, and helping the dying. Where would our world be without these people? It is sad to even think about what the world would be like without the sisters around to help all the people they do. It touches my heart to know that these people are devoted through Jesus. On judgement day we all know that God will welcome these missionaries to heaven with open arms. They devote their lives to do the work of Jesus, for these are some of the most wonderful people on this earth. The other topic I felt was interesting in the book, is when Mother Teresa speaks of her thoughts and feelings on abortion. There are several sections in the book, where she talks about abortion. I do agree with Mother Teresa's points on abortion. We are killing innocent children that God has created. In one section where Mother Teresa is in an interview answering questions, one question was referring to abortion. I want to quote her answer because it could not be answered in a better way. Her answer was, "people are trying to be free to live their own life by destroying life. For me, this is a painful sign that either the country is so poor that it cannot care for the lives that God has created, or that people are making a tremendous mistake." I do agree with Mother Teresa on this subject. There are so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Final Animal: Mother Teresa Final Animal For there to be a true leader, there needs to be knowledge, and in order to have knowledge, you need history. Orwell exclaimed that the pigs are leaders but not very good ones. Unlike the pigs in Animal Farm, Mother Teresa embodies the characteristics of a strong leader because she is helpful, inspiring, and caring. A characteristic that fits Mother Teresa is being helpful. She did what she could so the society would feel better. The pigs in this story are selfish and cruel. The pigs take advantage of the power that is given to them. • 63. Biography Of Teres Teresa Teresa's standing does not consist in what she tells us about herself but in what she tells us about God and his ways with us. Her life and her accomplishments have earned her many labels, reformer, author, foundress, doctor of the church and saint and these, together with her persona have made her one of the great women of all ages. She was born, bred and lived during the most harrowing period in the history of Roman Catholicism, the age of Reformation and Counter–Reformation. When Teresa was possibly two in 1517, somewhere in the north of Germany, a man by the name of Martin Luther was calling for reform in the Catholic Church. At that time, nobody would have guessed or known that this two year old would one day contribute to turn the tides of the Catholic Reformation, pointing the way from outer chaos to inner peace. ... A story that struck me to understand her evolution is one that mentions that when she was five years old she managed to convince her older brother to "go off to the land of the Moors and beg them, out of love of God, to cut off our heads there." Apparently they did not get too far as they were returned by their uncle. With this story in mind, one senses how adventurous and daring Teresa could have been and that her journey through life was going to be an interesting one. The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa Essay The Utopian Vision of Mother Teresa In August 1948, at the age of 38, Mother Teresa decided to adventure into the poorest neighborhoods of Calcutta, India, in order to live out her utopian dream by providing food, care, education, and shelter for the poor. Feeding people the Word of God; clothing them with dignity; educating them with knowledge, peace, truth, justice and love; nursing the mind and spirit; and sheltering them with a heart that understands. Her intentions more than her actions should be looked at and they were to love and treat everyone equally. "When Mother Teresa looked into the eyes of those she literally pulled out of the gutter, she saw Jesus Christ. She said, "They are Jesus. Everyone is Jesus in a distressing disguise." ("servant") Mother Teresa teaches that the best way to live a simple life is by giving up all you have and joining those that suffer physically and financially. She says, "When all you got is all you've got, all that's left is to be yourself and you can only receive. And that, in a sense, is why the poor are blessed, because they know what really matters". (M.T. Simple) If a simple life helps one to know yourself better than it can also help you discover the natural law. (M.T. Simple) Poverty seems to me to degrade a sense of self, causing the poor person to feel worthless and incapable. Poverty can be beautiful in that you are not hiding behind someone and all you can do is receive, but I think it is important not to mystify poverty like it is so glorious when really it is not. She is the second most advertised religious celebrity after Pope John Paul II. Due to her fame, many people willingly step forward to offer their support and praise her work. The Indian media used Mother Teresa as a figure for a movement towards bettering the lives of those in the lower castes. They believe that if the Indian people were seeing a white, foreign woman caring for their family and neighbors that many would take up the cause to help as well. Mother Teresa's presence was also helpful during the political unrest of India. She was the symbol of a better country during India's fight for independence from Britain, the separation from Pakistan in 1947, the Civil War of 1971, and the creation of Bangladesh. Mother Teresa was proving that one could give up one's entire life and need no material possessions and spread love and support to all. She lived a simple life, surrounded in strong faith, while believing in the compassion of humans. However, not everyone believed that Mother Teresa had proven herself as a 'living saint.' Many people questioned her health, her mental sanity, and her work. Throughout her life, Mother Teresa suffered from ill health. While not much is known about her childhood and her health during this time, it is known that the Bojaxhiu family traveled each year to comfort Mother Teresa's poor health. • 71. Analysis Of Mother Teresa Mother Teresa has won it all, from the hearts of even the non–Christians to the Nobel Peace Prize, and posthumously, a prestige that most of us nor wish nor dream of, one which elevated her above us all: sainthood. In Mother Teresa's canonization, she is immortalized by Pope Francis as an icon of love and compassion, highlighting her commitment to saving lives, claiming her "a generous dispenser of divine mercy," and her whole life "an eloquent witness to God's closeness to the poorest of the poor" (Francis). In this essay, I hope to, knowing well that I am going against the idols of hundreds of millions, show you that everything said by the Pope is very far from the truth, and that there is perhaps no better example of undeserved glorification and false idolization than the wicked old lady, Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was indeed committed to saving lives, even at all costs. She was a strenuous advocate of anti–abortion, defending her position not for moral reasons, but to enforce the centuries old Vatican's population policy established by the Catholic Church and implemented by the predecessors of, and, Pope Francis himself. Even when working in the slums of Calcutta, a place swelteringly populous, her strict right–wing views of anti–abortion didn't budge. Her rationale, very conservatively catholic–ly: "God has created a world big enough for all the lives He wishes to be born. It is only our hearts that are not big enough to want them and accept them..." This way of reasoning becomes rather tricky, especially given the existence of an omnibenevolent God, in the case of rape victims and mothers facing risks in childbirth who, in places like the slums of Calcutta, can not afford any medical attention. What Mother Teresa is suggesting, in other words, is the mother sacrifice her life for the child. One can find something beautiful in this. Emotions will lead us to point to the unconditional love a mother has for her child and leave us emotionally disheveled and maybe also inspired. But rationality should tell us that in the slums of Calcutta, where each and every family is overcrowded and living far below poverty line, replacing the death of a mother with a new baby only adds to their predicament. The reformation performed by Teresa of Avila created an evident change as she struggled against the fact that men were only able do things such as reforming the church. It was extremely unusual for women to make significant changes thus, it was very much a start of women gaining power in religious aspects. Another achievement that led to a change in Catholics was Teresa's writings and books. Her books were about her travels, reformation and establishment of convents and were guidance for the other nuns/Catholics. After 25 years, in the Carmelite convent, Teresa established a small convent in Avila called St Joseph's and this was the beginning of Teresa establishing many other convents allowing other females to also become nuns. St Teresa also found that some of the church was corrupt and tried to bring it back to focusing on the primitive rule so that Catholics could enjoy all that God has to offer. Although this was successful Teresa was unable to remain in this place of prayer, for the rest of her life, so she decided to travel across Spain, establishing new convents and followed her reform vision of the Discalced Carmelite life.
