2. What is our song? Why have we
picked it?
The song that we have decided to use to produce our
music video is Am I wrong by Nico and Vinz. The main
reason why we decided to pick this song is due to the
results and feedback we received from our target audience
and the most common preference they chose was Pop.
Another reason for our choice was because it's a very
popular song within the music charts and has a variety of
straight forward story lines which we could choose from
to fit the song.
4. Artist's name, who they are and the
identity created for them..
We have chosen to use a male as our
main artist. This is because we are
portraying his identity as an outcast
despite him carrying on and pursuing
his dream in the end. This fits a male
character as men are known to be more
competitive and stubborn to reach
what they believe in. We want our
artist to have a unique identity to them
which would fit our genre as pop
artists always come across as unique
and edgy.
5. Why will our song/artist appeal to the target
audience? Similarities/differences to other artists?
Our song will appeal to our target audience as the most
common chosen genre when they took our survey was Pop. As
well as this, teenagers are mainly associated and drawn
towards pop music which is why our song will appeal to our
audience. Our artist will appeal to our target audience as it will
be a young male teenager. This may attract our audience more
as our artist would be around the same age, relating to them
more. Nico and Vinz are similar to the artists/music that many
teenagers enjoy. This is because they have a mixture of pop in
their music and many of our target audience preferred the
genre Pop and artists such as Taylor Swift, Sam Smith etc.
6. What style of music video are we making? What
will happen in the video? Which real music
videos were we influenced by?
Our music video style will be a mixture of both narrative and performance. We will have a
narrative style which will include a story of the background of the artist to ensure the audience
understand and engage in what's happening. We will also have a performance based style so that
our target audience will know more about the artist, rather than knowing just the story. The
storyline will involve a teenaged male who wants to fulfil his dreams to as a singer/songwriter
despite peers bringing him down, making him an outcast of society. We were influenced by music
videos such as Jessie J β Who's Laughing Now and The Script β Superheroes. We believe that we
are influenced by these music videos as they revolve around the idea that they are not accepted into
society so they hide their true identity but fulfil their dreams in the end. This fits our storyline as
our artist is not accepted by society despite people not what he is capable of, but he carries on in
what he believes in and succeeds despite the doubts and obstacles which are thrown at him.

7. Mise-en-scene, camera, editing? Which real
music video were you influenced by?
We will have our main artist dressed in modern
day urban outfits as we want to ensure that he
is targeted towards our teenaged audience. We
also want to have a set of different locations to
make our video seem more interesting. We
were influenced by Lorde β Royals. Despite her
video lacking a flow performance style, the
narrative style makes the video involve the
audience as it makes you want to know more
about the person and the reasons for their
lifestyle.
8. Camera? Influences?
For camera were ensuring that we have quite a
lot of close ups on the artist. We have decided
this because we want the audience to see what
his feelings and emotions are when he's
involved in trouble. This will give the video a
more sympathetic atmosphere and may relate
to our target audience. We were influenced by
music videos such as Beyonce β Pretty Hurts
as you can capture her emotions just from
close ups in the video.
9. Editing? Influences?
For editing, we want to include techniques such
as cross-cutting. We want to have this as it's
more interesting to tell a story from two
locations. This will attract our audience more to
watch the video as it will be more intriguing
then just having one location throughout the
video rather than having two locations at the
same time, making it more tense. We were
influenced by Sigma β Nobody to Love as they
cross-cut through a variety of locations which
made the video seem more interesting and fun to
watch.
10. Ancillary tasks β what are we doing? What
real media styles did we like the most?
The album for our music video has to be
unique in order to show the artists'
image and the genre of the music. We
looked at many different album covers
and we liked Magic! - Rude's album
cover. This is because it was simple but
very unique in the way that they didn't
have the main artist on the cover but
had a cartoon picture portraying the
'fairytale' ending of the music video.
11. What is our unique selling point? What will the
audience like about our artist compared to the
others?
Our unique selling point is the idea of our genre being a
mixture of mainly pop, but also afro beat This may suggest that
it could appeal to more than just the specific target audience
who love pop, but for others aswell. Another unique selling
point is the main artist. This because he is a teenager, who's
going to be dressed in modern clothing, attracting the audience
more as they can relate to our artist. Our artist will be
experiencing a range of emotions throughout the video aswell
which most teenagers experience when they are going through
tough times.
