2. Our Song
• The song we have chosen is Ghost by Halsey
• The song fits the genre of indie/pop and so we have decided to
incorporate elements of both genres through the mise-en-scene
• The song can be interpreted in many ways, however the way we have
decided to understand it is the loss of identity and not knowing who
you are.
• The ‘ghost’ being a metaphor for her ‘old’ self.
• The male character is trying to change her and she wants to impress
him. As such the mise-en-scene is a key element of our music video to
try and reflect this narrative.
3. Clothing for Robyn
• The aim throughout the video is to show Robyn wearing two different
styles of clothing, to demonstrate how she’s changed.
• One style is more girly and ‘mainstream’ than the other.
• For example, a significant piece of clothing she’ll wear before she starts to
change is a kimono. Which then contrasts to her wearing a black band tee.
• The colour choice for the clothing is significant in showing her emotions.
I.e. black, is an illustration of how she has lost herself and doesn’t feel
comfortable in who she is.
• Another significant part of the costume is a beanie, a way in which we’ve
chosen to show how the boy is trying to change her, she takes off her
beanie (telling her how to look)
5. Hair
• We’ve chosen not to style Robyn’s
(Jess) hair, and decided to leave it
natural.
• Jess’ hair is long, silky and
brunette so it fits the character
well without having adjust it.
6. Clothing for Lewis
• The idea is that Lewis’
character is changing Robyn
and to be different, and not
wear the conventional ‘girly’
clothes that she does.
• As such, he needs to wear
something that typical
teenage boys wouldn’t wear,
to show that he is not
mainstream.
7. Make-up
• The make-up for Robyn will
be predominantly natural in
order to keep the simplicity.
(Slight bit of mascara,
foundation and blush)
• Although to indicate her
change in character and
image, we will use blue
eyeshadow and a darker
lipstick to amplify this
change.
8. Lighting
• The majority of our piece will be filmed out in open areas during the
day
• The bright scenery juxtaposes the theme of the song to emphasise
her confusion.
• This is an unconventional setting for an indie music video as they tend
to be filtered and at night or simply dark settings.
9. Props
• We don’t intend on using many props in the
piece as to keep the minimalism of the indie
style.
• However one way in that we indicate the
male character encouraging Robyn to
change is through smoking, as such we will
use cigarettes as our prop in some scenes to
demonstrate his influence over her.
• In addition, we will need to film a scene in a
café and so food will be another prop that
we will use.
10. Locations
• We have decided to film in a selection of places that will be good for
our characters development.
• The park and Ruislip Lido are two of the locations we have chosen to
film in. They have similar settings and we wanted there to be
greenery and the lido offers a wide range of shots in different
locations. This locations were used for the performance aspect of the
video and in particular, before she had changed her image.
• We have also used an alley way, which was to show the process of her
changing (wearing different clothes and smoking)
• Another location is in a local café, when the two characters are on a
‘date’.
