Treatment for Music Video
‘City- Herschey feat.
Isabella Hart’
Genre: House
Duration: 03.50
Target Audience: This song will mainly
attract females between the ages of 16-
18, due to the emotional lyrics whereas
boys would not be attracted to, however
it would go up to the age of 18 because
it has a dance element in it when the
beat drops. Also, in the video the main
artist is female so girls would relate
more.
Character Breakdown: My
main artist performing in the
music video is Lydia Collier.
Throughout the music video it
will mainly highlight her life as
a teenager, she will help
represent what the lyrics are
trying to put across to our
viewers.
Outline of the format
• The music video starts off with the main artist rubbing her eyes as she looks in the mirror whilst she is
doing this the camera’s vision is distorted until she has opened her eyes, thus linking with the intro of the
song before the singing starts.
• Then the next shot is a close up of the artist to highlight her features to the audience and emphasise her
feelings as a tear comes down her face.
• Further on in the video we get introduced in her family like and how she is suffering deeply from it all and
she feels very alone and frail through guidance from the lyrics sang too: ‘My mind slowly decays’
• When many establishing shots of her are shown in London highlight my artists isolation from everyone as
it is busy and she is alone.
• We use an other the shoulder shot when my artist has come home to her dad hitting her, and we see her
looking in the mirror at her bruises and through the other the shoulder shot we feel like we are her and
are fully connected to what she is going through.
• The video ends with an establishing shot of her room then a slow motion encounter to the family photo
she found when she was little, thus emphasising what she wants but cant have anymore, so she had
enough and wants to get away from it all.
Visual Elements of Music Video
Lighting:
The lighting
included in the
music will be
mostly dark,
dim lighting
and it adds to
the tone of the
sad emotional
lyrics of the
song. However,
have some
light to add to
the dance
element of it
too.
Camera Work:
The use of camera work
in this video will be fast
paced shot changes as
expected in every video.
Also, I will include a view
close ups and
establishing shots as
most of my genre
include these types of
functions.
Editing:
Editing will
contribute to
the great use of
fast paced shot
changes to link
with the beat of
the music. Also,
the use of
editing makes
the music video
more intriguing
to watch as the
music is fitted
to the shots and
effects are
added in to
make it more
like its genre
e.g. slow
motion.
Setting:
Types the
settings that
will be used
will be her
house and
isolated and
busy streets.
Her house
helps our
audience to
relate and feel
closer to our
artist adding to
the emotion of
the song.
Isolated and
busy streets
will emphasise
her being
alone.
Actors:
The actors I
have chosen are
very committed
to there parts
and our very
excited about
playing their set
roles.
• Main Artist-
Lydia
• Extra cast is
being played
by Lydia’s
mum and dad
Props:
Props that will
be used will be
items such as a
carrier bag, wine
bottle, cigarette
etc. These props
will help
develop our
main artists
character.
Costume:
Costume has been
well thought out
into being plain
and simple as a
symbol of our
characters
personality
disintegrating,
linking to the lyrics
“my seams seem
to fade”.
Also, my artist star
image will include
her having a plait
in her hair
constantly, as it
helps highlight her
innocence.
Rationale
• I have chosen all of these concepts above other
concepts due to the fact it all links to how I want the
music video to come across as quite emotional for
my main artist e.g. through the dark light and
isolated settings.
• Therefore, this helps add to attracting our teenage
girl audience as they could relate to how our main
artist feels emotionally.
Primary and Secondary Research
• Primary Research:
For my primary research I did a questionnaire for how I should dress my artist
because I wasn’t sure how I should dress her so it could attract the female
audience. Also, during class we had a group session so we could all listen to
our music we have chosen and contribute ideas for each of our music videos
which helped massively.
• Secondary Research:
Furthermore, I carried out some secondary research as well such as research
similarly music videos of the same genre as mine and what they included for
their music video and what were their typical conventions used. Additionally,
I researched famous music video directors to help grab ideas for types of
shots and angles to include.
Requirements and Resources
Casting Technical Equipment Locations
Lydia as my main artist, as
Video Camera & SD Card
she is confident, dedicated
(for keep our filming

secure)

Problems that may occur is
people could get in the
way of our filming.
Lydia’s Mum playing her
Mum in the video, as she
said she would be able to
contribute.
Tripod Lydia’s House- this location
is very reliable as it is our
artists house.
Lydia’s Dad playing her Dad
in the video as he was up
for being in a couple of
scenes to contribute to the
family idea.
Lights to give us extra
lighting when filming
King Georges Fields- The
weather could cause a
diversion to filming in the
fields e.g. rain.
Train Station- Problems
may encounter is it could
be to busy to film.
Constraints and Contingency
• What problems may I encounter?
Problems that I may encounter is the weather could not be on my side when I am
filming outside, rain could add to the emotional effect but ruin my camera shots.
Also, when going to and being in London it would be very busy causing filming to be
more difficult as it is crowded.
May have to get permission to film on the underground.
• How can I overcome these problems?
I can overcome the weather through as a last result filming all the other shots needed
inside then film outside when the weather is good for filming.
When in London, I could avoid filming when it is crowded by being organised and
filming at a non busy time or film in an isolated place.
Finally, I should be organised and get permission to film on the underground.

For when my artist is smashing her room up, Tilly and I need to buy item that
we can smash:
