2. Based on my research for my target audience, I came to the conclusion that my magazine
would be aimed at people aged between 18-35 because I feel that at the age of 18, most
people will have a job and will be able to pay for my magazine and at this age, they will be
interested in all things included in my magazine, I feel that at the age of 35, they will start
to have more important things in life rather than reading music magazines and that is why
I have targeted 18-35 year olds (both males and females). I have also based my target
audience on people who enjoy buying new clothes, socialising with people, enjoy social
media, concerts/ festivals. Also I have noticed that people who are 18 years or over may be
willing to travel to go to big festivals and most people who are 18 years or over have the
money to do so with a group of friends and that is also a reason why I have chosen the age
18-35. when turning 18, a lot f people will go to university and make more friends and they
will all go out drinking at clubs/ bars and at clubs and bars it is my genre of music that
gets played, it isn’t something like ‘indie’ music that gets played at bars and clubs. My
genre of music sounds good when it is played out really loud and that is why they are
played at clubs and bars and that will also attract people to enjoy my genre of music that I
have chosen for my magazine. More people get ‘addicted’ to this genre of music when
going out to clubs and bars when drinking with friends because they enjoy the loud music.
After people finish university and graduate, they may feel they want to go abroad to
celebrate and want to go to a big festival and a festival such as Coachella or Tomorrowland
may be in their minds because they enjoy my genre of music and my genre of music gets
played a lot at those types of concerts. As they will have just graduated they won’t mind
spending money to go all the way to America to go. Also I have stopped at the age of 35
years old because they will have other things to do rather than go out with friends, go on
holiday with friends etc. I feel my genre of music gets listened to more once people start
hearing it being played really loud in a club/ bar. The sales to each gender may differ each
month as the artist on the cover of my magazine may determine whether they buy the
magazine that month or not.
3. I had to keep my audience research in mind when designing my magazine to ensure it fitted my
genre style and also met with the interest of the target audience. I had to ensure that my artist
‘James Tagger’ was styled/ modelled appropriately to make sure he matched the clothing styles of
my chosen genre, this would allow my target audience to be related to my magazine. As my
artists’ hair is long I had to style it so that his hair style didn’t look too ‘indie’ and I feel I did that
quite well as I styled his hair to be simple but also look good. I styled my magazine so that it was
simple, yet eye- catching because that also matches with my target audience. They layout of my
overall magazine is very simple but the pictures and colour scheme is very eye grabbing and that
is what I wanted from the start. I know that there are already some really popular R&B, Hip Hop,
Rap magazines but I feel these are the types of magazines that catch peoples eyes, mine is also a
little different to current magazines of my genre as I have mixed aspects of different magazines
together to give my magazine a unique look. I didn’t include much on my magazine as I wanted to
keep it simple yet eye- catching, my layouts for all pages are fairly simple but I feel they are very
effective and also look good.
