Question 5
1. 5. How do you attract/address your audience?
Who exactly is the target audience for my magazine?
•The age range for my magazine is from the ages of 16-24 years old.
•The target gender of my magazine is males and females in the ratio 30:70 so
females are the more predominant target gender of the two for my music
magazine.
• The target social classes for my magazine are middle, middle class lower middle
class and some upper middle class.
• The target background/ethnicity for my magazine is generally white British but
other ethnicities are not excluded from the magazine but generally my target
audience is people with White British backgrounds.
• General hobbies and interests of my target audience are people who like to
listen to music and going to concerts and people who like to keep up to date
with the newest music news and the newest band and artist news.
• The sub culture of my magazine are rockers and indies as those are the people
who will enjoy to read about the type of bands and artists that will be featured
in my music magazine.
2. 5. How do you attract/address your audience?
For the front cover of my
magazine i chose to have a male
on the front cover as i wanted
the ratio of females who buy my
magazine to be 70:30. By having
a male on the front cover of my
magazine it attracts females but
also it still attracts males as they
still may like Oblivions music.
I added this cover line
advertising that there is
information about upcoming
concerts in 2014 which
applies to my target audience
as they would be people who
are interested in finding out
about concerts and where
they can see their favourite
artists .
To attract my target
audience i also got the
model of my front
cover to pose with a
guitar to symbolise that
it is a music magazine
so that my target
audience wouldn’t be
hesitant to buy and
read my magazine.
I chose the name Oblivion
for my artist on my front
cover as i thought the name
sounded like a very Indie
but also slightly punk artist
name which is exactly what
i was going for with my
main cover artist. This
attracts my target audience
as these are the types of
artists that people who are
in the Indie and Rocker sub
culture enjoy to listen to
and they are my magazines
target audience.
I decided to call my magazine ‘Riff’ as this is a musical
term used for describing a solo on a guitar. I felt that this
applied to my target audience as they are in sub cultures
that are known for playing guitars this means my target
audience would be attracted by the title of my magazine
3. 5. How do you attract/address your audience?
For the title on my contents page i
decided to use an eroded font on
the text as i thought this would
apply to my target audience as it
mimics that of other popular music
magazines such as Kerrang so i felt
it was suitable and would entice
my target audience as they would
be the sub culture that would read
magazines like Kerrang and seeing
fonts in other magazines will
attract people who are fans of
kerrang magazine to read my
magazine.
Like on my front cover i
decided to add a more
detailed list of all of the
bands that will be going on
tour in 2014 this is a way
of me trying to attract my
target audience as they
would like the artists that
are in this list and they
would be interested in
finding out about their
upcoming concerts and
tours.
I also wrote at the
bottom of each photo
the name of the artist or
band who is featured in
the picture in an
attempt to attract my
target audience as they
will see the artists that
they like and get a little
insight into their
personalities and
therefore they feel
enticed to read the
magazine.
4. 5. How do you attract/address your audience?
I added a quote from the artist onto my double page spread as another
way to try and attract my target audience as i tried to think of something
that a rising star artist would say in order to tell his fans how happy he is
to have made it in the music business so i decided to add a quote using
words like hype that people who are generally associated with indie sub
culture would say so i did this to try and attract people of my target
audience.
I added a grainy
colourless effect on
this image as i though
it would appeal to my
target audience as it is
quite an indie and
maybe gothic effect so
it appeals to all of my
target audience and
also i wanted it to
stand out and look
different from all of
the other images on
the page.
I made part of the text in my article white and part of it
yellow as i wanted the page to look more organised and
not cluttered. Also i made the colours like this as they
follow the house style that is continuous throughout my
magazine. This attracts my target audience as the colours
are similar to that of Kerrang magazine so people who are
a fan of Kerrang will be attracted to my magazine.
