1. a. India: 11 years at the Digboi, Assam Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation. I worked in the
Maintenance Department of the Refinery. Responsible for the maintenance of all Electrical
Equipment viz.: Motors, Starters,Switchgears, Transformers, Alternators, Lighting etc.
b. Involved with Tendering & finalization for purchase of spare parts.
c. Preparation of specifications for new equipment for upgradation purposes. Coordinate the
preparation of Purchase Requisitions for the procurement of equipment and Materials, review
vendor drawings and documents. , tendering & finalization of purchase order. Ensure materials
are obtained within scheduled timeframes and budgeted costs.
d. Review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs),Plot plans, General Arrangement (GA)
drawings, and other relevant documents.
e. Coordinate preparation of Equipment Layouts, Cable Routing Drawings, Cable Trench/Tray
Layout Drawings, Lighting System Layout and details, Earthing/Lightning protection Layout and
details, Installation Standard Drawings, Cable Schedules, Cable Drum Schedules, Interconnection
Schedules, Relay Coordination Drawings and other required documents.
f. Inter-Discipline Checks (IDCs) coordination with other engineering discipline.
g. Monitor Material Take Off (MTO) activities, identify irregularities and shortfalls, take
corrective action as required.
h. Installation of equipment on receipt.
i. Testing & commissioning of the newly installed equipment.

Reviewing the Process Instrumentation Diagram (PID) for the overall plant & obtains
approval from site consultant.
Preparing specifications for the Main Control Panel(MCP) & Motor Control Centers (MCC)
for the pump stations & obtain offers from suppliers. The vendor designs the panels based on
SLDs & the final IO list so that required hardware is incorporated to provide interfacing with
the SCADA system. The offers are evaluated & order placed after obtaining approval from
the Consultant. After the panels are fabricated they are inspected along with the consultant at
the vendor’s factory & witness the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test).
SCADA System: Conduct meetings with the consultant & the vendor to decide on the types
& quantities of signals required as per Process Instrumentation Diagram (PID). This is to
enable the vendor to prepare & submit the IO (input-output) list. Review the same with the
consultant for approval. Inform the vendor for any addition signal requirement or deletion of
unwanted signals.
Vendor designs the PLC panels incorporating the final IO signal requirements. This is again
reviewed by the consultant for final approval before placement of the order on the vendor for
fabrication. (A copy of the final IO list is also provided to the MCC panel vendor for
incorporating necessary hardware for interfacing with the SCADA system).Inspecting the
panels along with the consultant at the vendor’s factory & witness the FAT (Factory
Acceptance Test).
Inviting quotation for various instruments e.g: - Flow-meters, Level transmitters, Pressure
Transmitters as per requirement given on the PID diagram. The offers are reviewed &
approval obtained from consultant.
The equipment on receipt at site was checked with the consultant. The consultant approves
the installation of the equipment.
The layout drawings are prepared for different pump stations showing the placement of the
MCC panels, PLC panels & cable trench/cable trays. These are approved by the consultant &
the panels are installed as per the approved drawings.
Cable Route is incorporated on the site plan showing the connection of the main power panel
at the sub-station with the various pump stations & also showing the cable manholes. A
separate cable route is shown for the FO (Fiber Optic) cable for the SCADA system.
Approval obtained for the cable route from the consultant.
The manholes are designed for Power cables,control cables & for SCADA system cables.
The size of the manholes depends on the number & size of the cables & their location on the
site plan. These are approved by the consultant prior to their fabrication & installation at site.
Preparation of Trenches & installing PVC pipes of various sizes: 50mm/75mm/110mm for
cables between the manholes. The cables are laid from Transformer/ Switchgear room to the
Main Distribution Building & pump stations.
The (incoming) cables are laid from the Main Distribution Building to the various load
centers e.g Aerators,Return Sludge Bldg., Feed Filter Bldg., Filtration Bldg., Clarifiers,
Excess Sludge Bldg. & their terminations.
The (Outgoing) Cables are laid from the different MCCs to the various loads e.g Aerator
motors, Clarifier drives, Submersible Pumps, Motorized valves & their termination. Cable
trays are installed wherever required.
Installing PLC panels for SCADA control system. FO cables are laid in a ring formation.
Installing field instruments: - Flow-meters, Level transmitters, Pressure Transmitters are
installed. Power & instrument cables are laid from field instruments to the respective
MCC/PLC panels.
Layout drawing prepared showing standby Diesel Generating set,cable trenches etc. Power
& control cables were laid from DG set to the main control panel & termination done.
Lighting layout prepared for different buildings showing the location of the lighting points,
power outlets, lighting panel & switches & approval obtained from consultant.
Fire alarm layout prepared for different buildings showing the location of the heat & smoke
detectors,Fire Alarm Control Panel & alarm Bell & approval obtained from consultant. The
equipment are tested & commissioned in presence of the consultant.
Earthing layout prepared by showing earthing cable route & the location of earthing pits.
Earthing rods installed & connected to different equipments & the panels. Earth resistance
readings were measured by earth megger & witnessed by the consultant.
Testing & commissioning of the various MCC panels along with the consultant.
