1. In depth analysis of my Ancillary
task and main product
By Raja Kavaiya
2. Ancillary Task
โข We were set the task of completing an ancillary
task for our A2 Media studies coursework. This
involved creating a film poster to advertise the
final product and also a film review for a
magazine as part of advertising. We were
permitted to using Adobe Photoshop which
allowed us to professionally design our ancillary
task allowing us to enhance our texts,
connotations and codes and conventions. This
meant we had to be creative and meaningful, but
we had to abide the common conventions and
essentials of a film poster and review.
3. The purpose of an Ancillary Task
โข The ancillary task was completed to advertise and
promote the short film. This had to be done to a
professional standard as much as we could with
very limited resources. Being an independent
company, our budget was very limited and we
were privileged enough to have access to Apple
Macs. This all relied on how we promoted the
film with the poster, the places were it would be
seen and the targeted audience. The ancillary
task had to also be attractive to our target
audience which was brought to our attention
whilst choosing colour schemes and pictures.
4. How did my film review explore the
final product?
โข I designed and wrote my review with the
intendment of attracting my audience and views
towards the film. The picture I had chose at the
top of the film I believe is very eye catching and
peculiar, this is because it is not a common
gesture. This could get the readers mind ticking
which makes them read further.
โข This was a very organised and structured review
starting with the production informations,
followed by a summary of the plot, then moving
onto the review of a viewer. The result we
intended to reach from this film review was to
gain more followers of the production and
reaching a larger audience. We attempted to
convey the productions narrative to be as
detailed as possible to interest our audience.
The film review can only promote the
production to a certain extent which leads us to
the film poster and main product.,
5. How did my film poster explore the
final product?
โข A film poster was a key task as part of the
task as it is the first impression of the final
product to the audience. The elected image
in the film poster as significant links towards
to production such as, the location, and the
drink. This image was taken by myself on a
professional camera which enabled us to
capture every specific detail involved in the
image which was important. The connection
between the two characters in the image of
the poster conveyed elements of romance
due to the eye contact. This was also
conveyed by both females drinking out of
the same glass, this is perceived to be
romantic. There as generic links to the
location of the final product, and certain
props such as the alcohol bottles, bar stools
and the cocktail in the production. Which all
had to be taken into account whilst
designing it.
7. Chosen colour scheme
โข No specific colour schemes were chosen for
these products apart for elements of the
general connotations of romance and drama.
These colours included red and blue. Light,
exotic colours were chosen to catch the
readers attention to read on. These colours
were chosen to set a tone for the audience of
what emotion the film sets off.
8. Fonts used
โข Poster title โ Blind Date
The font used for the poster title was chosen to be a
bit messy but romance related. This is evident by the
love heart located on top of the โIโ which portrayed a
element of the narrative.
โข Review title โ
The font applied for my film review was very plain and
slick. This showed a level of professionalism and keeping
the font in a mutual position and font. There was no
intentions to conveys any element of the production and
was chosen out of convenience.
9. Web Addresses
โข Website & Social Media
These links were added to the bottom of my film
poster to allow our audience be contact us or
keep up to date with any updates that the
production team may take. This includes posts,
tweets, pictures, journals, blogs and much more
allowing them to interact with us.
