2. Equipmentused
Technologies used on our filming day really helped us in being able
to shoot a professional looking trailer as well photos for our poster
and magazine.
The camera we used on the day was Canon 550d SLR, this was a
very useful tool as it is very easy to carry around which we needed
as we wanted to get shots of different angles and settings on the
site. The lightness of the camera made it very easy for us to be able
to adjust it to any scenery and still get an effective shot.
Also used was lighting in order to give a better quality shot, which is
helpful with the poster as it would have to be blown up to bigger
sizes also for the magazine as having a better quality image will add
to the professional feel.
3. Useoffinalcut
prox
We used the Cool Tones affect to make all the clips of our trailer look slightly darker
and more sinister. This was needed because on our filming day the weather was very
bright and filming around the college was also very bright due to the lighting of the
corridor. This effect gives the clip a more abstract, grim tone which reflects the mood
we want to create for the film.
For the main editing of the trailer we put the clips together in the correct order, we
used cut to black as it slows down the trailer and gives in a more dramatic feel. The
music also helps in doing this.
We also added titles to the trailer to give the audience slightly more information
about the clip which would increase interest but still not give away enough to follow
the conventions of a teaser trailer.
4. Finalcutprox
Final Cut ProX allowed us to add transitions to the trailer which
was done by clicking on the transitions options, we then chose
which one to use best by process of elimination. The final cut
pro x software was good for this as it has a lot of transitions to
chose from which meant the transitions we did pick helped us
in adding to the tension of the trailer.
At the beginning stages of using Final Cut Pro X we used the
cutting tool to edit down the video clips we wanted to use in
the trailer, by being able to make the videos smaller it was
easier to put the together and to see what order worked most
practically for our aim of creating an ominous atmosphere.
5. Websiteusedformusic
We took an extract of music from Purple Planet Music website which
fitted our genre and created the dark tone we wanted to achieve.
We did have to alter the speed of the music piece to better fit around our
video and success in building the tension.
We used this website in particular as we needed to find one that would
allow us to use the music on our trailer and post online to a public
audience. This was fairly easy to find as it is on google.
6. UseofphotoshopIn order to get an effective image to use for the magazine cover,
we used photoshop to cut out the background of the image
using the magic eraser tool to get rid of the unwanted
background.
This tool was also used when getting the ‘Sight and Sound’ logo
for the magazine cover. Powerpoint allowed me to take an
image of a past magazine cover from the internet and erase any
background I did not want in order to put these title on
illustrator to add to the professional finish of the cover.
When creating our poster we wanted to add the black and white
effect to show the serious moods of the film as well as a tool to
present the title as more of a focal point as the red colour of the
word would stand out more against a darker background.
7. Useofillustrator formagazine
Illustrator was a key tool used in the making of our magazine and
poster.
I focused on was attempting to get the bullet points used at the
bottom of the cover onto our cover looking as exact as possible. To
do this I used the ink dropper tool to replicate the colour of the
title to the colour of the bullet points.
Illustrator was also used in the making of our magazine cover as
we wanted to achieve a professional outcome, this software
allowed us to put together titles, subtitles, logos, backgrounds.
I had to add a white border to the finish cover as that is what is
used in the actual Sight and Sound cover, to do this I used a tool to
create a blank white background in which I placed the magazine
cover on top and sent the background to the back, this allowed to
be able to position the rest of the cover around this white
background to create an effective white border.
8. Useofillustrator poster Before the use of illustrator this was just the plain black and white
image, illustrator allowed us to add the titles and subtitles we needed
into to make our poster effective in advertising our film.
I think one of the most useful assets that illustrator allowed us to add
was the ‘steel tones’ effect used at the bottom of our poster which I
used by picking the font and adapting what was said and the order of
the credits by using separate keys that alter what credit is mentioned.
Also added was the quotation and stars this was done by added
objects to the poster to which I altered the size and colour. This was
very helpful in being able to add typical conventions of a poster.
9. Websitesusedforresearch
In order to gain a better idea of what the best target audience
would be for our film genre we used graphs found on the Val
Morgan cinema network website which showed the age
ranges most likely to go to view a certain genre at the cinema.
Also used was Youtube to view teaser trailers which would
carry a likeness to our plot and genre as we could use ideas
from professional teaser trailers to know what typical
conventions take place when making an official teaser trailer.
This has been very helpful as i've been very interested by the
different techniques used to create different moods. One of
the most influential teaser trailers I watched was Project X,
the camera work of the handheld camera joined with the
narration. I feel this sort of film would be achievable as it is
based in a high school with teenagers. Another aspect of this
teaser trailer I really liked was the diegetic and non diegetic
sound, this really added to the pace and atmosphere of the
teaser trailer and gave the audience a much better feel of the
film.
10. Overcominganyissues
One of the issues we had was during our filming we found that we had many shots of our
main character just walking around the school site, which at the time we felt would be
necessary but after putting them together and watching them back we realised it caused the
trailer to seem boring and repetitive. But because of our use of Final Cut Pro X we were
able to alter many aspects of the filming so it seemed much more interesting and gripping
for the audience. This was done by adding filters, transitions and sound. For some of the
clips we also used a tool on this software that enabled us to alter the speed of the clips
which massively changed how the clip looked and what sort of image it portrayed to the
audience about the film.
