2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conversions of real media?
Our film is called ‘Invisible’, the name of the film has a lot of meaning to the main character
as you’ll notice throughout the film that’s how he’s treated. Rhys who is the main character
has a difficult time at school, is very lonely and just wanting to be liked by peers. Therefore
the title relates back to the plot.
Locations of the scenes play a significant role when creating a drama short film as it needs to
be somewhere the audience can relate to, which is why we came to the idea of school life. The
reason we did this is because most of the people we asked to do a questionnaire was people
aged between 16-18 years ad felt they would have more of a connection with the film. Not
only that but also we wanted to create awareness of bullying and the effects it can have.
The whole of our film was set in school grounds we showed this by the opening as it was a
mid shot of students walking into the sixth form as the school bell rings which sets he scene
perfectly.
The main prop used was the lighter ,which had all the focus on it, as it was the cause of the
fire. I think we showed this well and made it noticeable it was the cause. What we didn’t
notice till after we’d finished creating the film was ‘Rhys’ had the lighter in his hand at the
end of the film which didn’t fit into the narrative. This is something which we would change if
having more time.
3. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
• My A2 media studies coursework required the main product which was a short film and both film review and film poster
for the ancillary y text. Drama was the genre of our film and with that we had to use the codes and conventions in all three
products as a unique selling point. This would the increase he effectiveness of the whole together. Here below show the
poster and review.
We worked with our initial image on Photoshop and this
became our final design. We aimed to blur 'Rhys' out
and make the lighter the main focus which i felt went
successful. We made the glow of the flame much
brighter making it stand out more.
We found it really difficult getting the title just right as
we needed it to stand out as much as the central image
but it hard finding the right colour without making it
look cheap or blend into the background. So we but a
light glow round the title which captured the attention
and turned out just right.
In the left hand corner is a logo we designed ourselves,
the reason we added this on was because we thought it
was more professional looking.
The date of release and website is also underneath the
title , these are important details which audience will
need to know in order to see them or find out more
information. It is displayed in small font so it doesn't
take away the attention but is still valuable.
We created the film review on
publisher because we decided it
would be the best technology to put
together our review. We added
photos of scenes which was actually
in our film showing the audience a
preview of what is to come. He title
is bold making audience more
aware and remember the name of
the film.
Having four stars makes it attract
more to the audience as its good
rate to have.
The text is full of persuading writing
but doesn’t give to much away.
4. What have you learned from audience feed back?
• From the audience feedback I had it helped me realise
what my target audience was looking for and what
codes and conventions would be needed to give them
what they are looking for in our short film and
ancillary text. The way I which we got our feedback
was by putting the short film on to YouTube and
sharing it on Facebook , what we found was that the
majority of people saw there needed a few extra scenes
in order for the narrative to fit together. This was
something we found very useful and changed to
improve our product.
5. How did you use media technology in the construction and research ,
planning and evaluation stages?
Through the evaluation stages we used several
technologies to follow out the process theses included:
Blogger- To keep updated and on top of where I
was during the process, almost like a diary entry.
Google/YouTube- This was used for researching
and also uploading our short film.
iMovie-To create our short film which had great
effects.
PowerPoint- I used PowerPoint to sent out some of
m research.
Survey Monkey – To create questionnaires in order
to get feedback.
Publisher-For putting the film review together.
iPhone-To film and take images.
Mac book-To edit and create film.
These all helped make things easier to complete our
final product.
