This document summarizes the layout and design elements of a magazine article spread across multiple pages. Key design choices include using limited text to engage distracted teenage readers, continuing the article across pages rather than containing it to one or two pages, and maintaining consistent branding elements like color schemes and fonts to guide the reader's eyes and indicate related content. The article also employs techniques like a large cover image, direct address, drop caps, pull quotes, and stylistic text treatments to attract readers and signal where the content begins and important points are made.
2. layout Again in this lay out not a lot of room is
taken up with text. This is because it’s a teens
magazine and they become easily distracted.
Also this feature actually breaks the
convention of articles only being on one
page or a double page spread as it actually
contuse after this page, as Karrang is an
establish brand it is able to do this. They are
also able to not have to place there
masthead on ever page as the are already an
stablish brand.
Again link in the other pieces the head line of
the article and the models face intersects
with rule of third lines.
3. Main image
◦ In the main image the same artist from
the fount cover is used and the same
props are also present this show the
reader that this is the main article that
was mentioned on the cover though
the use of the main image and main
cover line.
◦ Again in this picture the model is using
direct address this makes the target
audience feel involved in the article and
is a conventional techniques that is
often used in magazines.
4. colours
◦The colour of the
defibrillator, main cover
line and border are all the
same shade of blue, this
creates a house style feel
and also helps the readers
eyes move from one
important segment to
another.
5. Drop cap
◦The article starts with a
drop cap this is used to
show the reader where the
article starts and to draw
attention to the text.
6. typography
◦ The all the text used for the titles is in bold
capitals this is conventional but it also may
reflect the bold, different and edgy genre of
music.
◦ Some of the texts key words like dead and
monster have a slightly different fount to draw
attention to them. These worlds link to some of
the dark themes connoted from the colours
earlier and would essentially be buzz words for
the target audience as they are suspected to
have a interest in horror which is implied by the
axe on the cover.
◦ Also some of the images e.g.; wires integrates
with the text this again anchors the article to
being the main cover line mentioned on the
front cover that also had wires around it.
7. Pull quotes
As in mentioned earlier unconventionaly this
article continues over two more pages. On
one of these pages a pull quote is used to
draw the readers attention and given them
only a little information that may make them
want to read on.
This particular pull quote contains a
profanity. This show that the magazine is
honour as does not sensor there articles. It
would also be appealing to the teenage
audience who stereotypical are very
antisocial and are prone to swearing.
