This document discusses problems related to excessive garbage and crowds at Lavasa on weekends. It notes that while visitors are good for business, the surge in numbers leads to garbage overflowing bins and encroachment on seating areas. Solutions proposed include adding more bins in busy areas, demarcating seating clearly, launching an awareness campaign, and designating a picnic area to reduce litter. Regular cleaning of accumulated garbage in water bodies is also recommended. Overall, the document aims to manage waste and crowds in a constructive manner that allows visitors to continue enjoying Lavasa.

Solving lavasa home owner problems through constructive dialogue
1. SOLVING LAVASA HOME OWNER
PROBLEMS THROUGH CONSTRUCTIVE
DIALOGUE
Problem of Excessive Garbage and
Chaos on Weekends
2. FACTS
Lavasa gets thousands of visitors on
weekends.
This is good for Lavasa especially the
Hotels and Outlets
It also helps retain Lavasa’s image as
a preferred tourist destination, might
encourage individuals and corporate
entities to invest in Lavasa
Good for us – Home Owners
3. PROBLEMS
Facilities not fully equipped to handle the
surge of Visitors leading to:
Excessive Garbage and Litter
Visitors with picnic-boxes encroaching on
reserved seating for Outlet Patrons
Lack of Enhanced Security and Guidance
to Visitors
10. SOLUTION
Obviously a Concerted Campaign on Keeping
Lavasa Beautiful is called for
This includes Security diplomatically guiding
Visitors on Correct Action
But the Security themselves have to be trained first.
I have personally seen them spitting into the Lake
11. GARBAGE AND RELATED HEALTH HAZARDS
There are Other Problems
that Need Creative
Solutions
(See Following Pics)
15. HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
The Solution is simple
Use boats with skimmers and
clean up the area at least once
a month –
Lavasa has the Boats but no
skimming equipment
22. ANOTHER NAGGING PROBLEM:
Another Nagging Problem relates to
Seating Areas during weekends
Visitors tend to use chairs earmarked
for Outlet Patrons – bad for the
businesses – a clear demarcation is
necessary
Yet, Visitor Needs Have to be Met
WHAT IS THE SOLUTION
23. DEMARCATEAREASCLEARLY
The line of Trees
on the left would be
a good way to
demarcate: The
outlet chairs (meant
for patrons) are on
the left of the trees.
Some signage
would be required
(open for
discussion)
24. DEMARCATEDAREAS
The chairs and
umbrellas outside
Coffee Day is a
good example –
pretty clear what is
meant for Outlet
Patrons
The benches
around the tree
was presumably
meant for Visitors
and should
continue to be so
25. DEMARCATEDAREAS
These Chairs are
outside the
suggested area for
Outlet Patrons and
should be allowed
for Visitors not
wanting Outlet
Food or
Refreshments –
maybe need a few
additional areas like
this
26. NEED FOR A DESIGNATED PICNIC
AREA
Quite a few Visitors like to picnic in Lavasa. (they
may sometimes bring their own food but even then,
they do buy aerated drinks and/or ice-cream). They
should not be discouraged but question is – where
do they sit? If there are not enough chairs, they
generally sit on the walls or seek grassy areas
other than in front of the Baskin Robbins ice-cream
outlet (creating additional litter problems)
Why not create an additional Picnic Area but
where?
27. SUGGESTEDDEDICATEDPICNICAREA
This area would be
great as a
designated picnic
area
It is next to the
Sports area as well
as the Baskin
Robbins Outlet
They could picnic
while watching the
Water Sports
Off course the
restraining tape
would have to be
relocated closer to
the water’s edge
AND
There would have
to be sufficient
number of Bins
And POSTERS
(see suggested
campaign)
28. CREATING AWARENESS
ALL SAID AND DONE – how does one ensure that
all this will work?
BY LAUNCHING AN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
(both Public but also within Lavasa Employees)
Introduce a Poster Design Competition (based on
Lavasa Poster Standards) for the best Slogan as well as
Pics showing how Clean Lavasa could be and of what
should not happen – Campaign along the Lines of the
highly successful Lavasa Photo Competition.
Hand Over Pamphlets at Gate creating Awareness
Let Security Staff intervene where necessary
32. CONCLUSIONS
LAVASA is all about healthy living and having fun – this
should continue to be encouraged. There are however
some down sides and these have to be managed:
EXCESSIVE Garbage and Litter especially on
Weekends. Solution:
Provide Extra Bins in the more used locations
Security should provide Guidance when required
Initiate Poster Campaign – also hand over Pamphlets
at Gate
Provide Dedicated Picnic Area
Lavasa Management MUST Regularly Clean Up
Accumulated and Floating Garbage in Water Bodies
33. CONCLUSIONS (CONTINUED)
CROWD MANAGEMENT – Excessive
Crowds Need to be Managed in a
Polite and Persuasive Manner:
By Subtle Demarcation and Signage
Through Polite Intervention of Security Staff
Through a ‘Keep Lavasa Clean’ Awareness
Campaign
34. NEXT STEPS
Release to Group for additional suggestions
(already approved by Senior Core Group
representative)
Finalize for Presentation to Lavasa Management on
24th April (They have already been made aware and
Rajiv Duggal has instructed staff to take note and
cooperate)
Implement – with Lavasa Management and
Volunteers for Lavasa Home Owners
Make this an example of what can be achieved
through dialogue followed by time-bound and
concrete action
