Day 3 Lesson Plan/ASSURE
Day 3 – Movement
Students will participate in a hands-on activity with a partner, most likely a parent, for
homework the night before we begin this lesson. They will be instructed to roll three
different sized balls, each with a different weight, down a ramp. Then they will measure
how far each ball rolls. They will record the weight of each ball, the distance that each
ball traveled, and why one ball traveled farther than the other. They will also be asked
how the weight of the ball affects the distance that it travels. Students will record their
results, and have them ready at the beginning of the lesson in class on this day.
A- Analyze the Learner
I will be teaching this unit plan to a group of 22 first graders. There are 11 boys and 11
girls. There are 21 white students and 1 African American. Most of my students come
from middle upper class families, however there are several students that come from
families of a lower socioeconomic status.
S- State Objectives
My students will demonstrate knowledge of movement after listening to a podcast,
participating in a hands on activities, and discussing/recording their results by the end of
the day with 85% accuracy.
S- Selection of Media, Method, and Material
I will instruct students to listen to my podcast and complete the activity as homework the
night before we begin this lesson in order to build prior knowledge. They will be using
three different sizes of balls, a ramp, and a ruler.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
In the activity from the night before, students would need to use three different sizes of
balls, a ramp, and a ruler.
R- Require Learner Participation
To begin the lesson in class, we will discuss the podcast and the activity from the night
before. Students will each discuss their results and read their answers to questions from
2. the podcast. Then, we will continue our lesson, and I will explain why weight affects
distance. Once again, we will record in our journals.
E- Evaluate and Revise
The following rating will be used to evaluate students’ knowledge of holiday traditions.
1. Students followed directions from podcast.
2. All results were recorded, and all questions answered.
3. Results were shared with the class.
