Legal and ethical
1. How this effects my print product?
Copyright/intellectual property rights Intellectual property refers to any intellectual creation,
such as literary works, artistic works, inventions,
designs, symbols, names, images, computer code,
etc.
Intellectual property law exists in order to protect the
creators and covers areas of copyright, trademark
law, and patents.
In order to make sure that I stay in line with the law I
must make sure not to copy any other ideas out there
already and not to copy any other style of cd cover or
advert.
Slander/libel Defamation is an area of law that provides a civil
remedy when someone's words end up causing harm
to your reputation or your livelihood. Libel is a written
or published defamatory statement, while slander is
defamation that is spoken by the defendant.
In order for this not to affect my product I must make
sure to choose my words carefully so doesn’t affect
my reputation so doesn’t affect the sales of my
product.
Royalties A sum paid to a patentee for the use of a patent or to
an author or composer for each copy of a book sold
or for each public performance of a work. In order to
avoid paying any money I must make sure that I use
all my own new ideas.
Violence Violence law says that your music must not be a
direct threat to other people in your lyrics and must
not encourage other people to commit acts of
violence as well. This can affect me because my song
titles could come across as violent so must make
sure they are not.
Offensive language/behaviour/material Section 5 makes it an offence to use “threatening,
abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly
behaviour” or to display “any writing, sign or other
visible representation which is threatening, abusive or
insulting” within the hearing or sight of a person “likely
to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby”.
Once again I must make sure my tittles are not using
any of this language.
Public interest Public interest is a common concern among citizens
in the management and affairs of local, state, and
national government. It does not mean mere curiosity
but is a broad term that refers to the body politic and
the public weal. Therefore my titles and photos must
be considered before printing to make sure it does
not concern anyone.
