The document describes the steps taken to manipulate an image for use in a men's hair dye advertisement. The manipulations included removing blemishes from the subject's face, changing the color of the subject's hair and eyes to purple and blue respectively, altering the color of half of the subject's hoodie, adding inner shadow effects, replacing the background, and moving the central image down on the page to allow space for advertising text. The end result was an edited image achieving the goal of featuring a subject that could be used to advertise hair dye.
2. Introduction
In this task, I was asked to manipulate an image that would be used within
an advert. This PowerPoint will show the steps I took in reaching the final
image and what image manipulation techniques I use to reach this. I am
attempting to create an image that will be used for a men’s hair dye,
advert.
I am aiming to have a final image that would be used in the product shot
of a hair dye advert.
3. Blemish Removal
The first step I took when manipulating
this image, is that I used the spot
healing tool to remove any blemishes
on the subjects face. I also used the tool
to remove scattered facial hair on the
subjects face.
Spot Healing tool
4. Hair Colour Changing
Using the quick selection tool
I highlighted the subjects
hair and this in term isolated
it from the base image.
I then went to the bottom
right and selected the
effects bar which brought
up the following options.
From these options I
selected ‘hue & saturation’.
5. Hair Colour Changing
After picking the ‘hue &
saturation option’, the following
colour bar settings appeared, I
selected colorize and proceeded
to pick my chosen colours.
I ended up with the colour
purple which blended into his
hair.
6. Eye Colour Changing
Once again I used the
quick selection tool to
highlight an isolate a part
of the subject’s face.
I then went to the
bottom right and
selected (……..) which
brought up the
following options.
From these options I
selected ‘hue &
saturation’. The end
result was the changed
eye colour which was a
greyish blue colour.
7. Eyebrow
At this point I went onto select the
healing brush tool and straightened and
removed blemishes around the subjects
eye brows.
8. Clothing Colour Changing
I also aimed to change the colour of
half of the hoodie. In doing so I had
to use the quick selection tool and
use the minus setting to have exactly
half of the hoodie colorized and the
way I went around doing this was
again selecting the (..…)
9. Adding Effect’s
In this section I went ahead and
added effects to the layers that
comprised of the subjects body.
The effects that I added were
specifically Inner shadow effects
which were added to give the
base image more depth and to
make it look slightly more natural
on the background
10. Background Removal
At this stage I went on to use the
quick selection tool to isolate the
background and then remove it.
After this step I then went on to
select a new background, and then
merged all layers of the subject
(the effects and original parts of
the original image of the subject)
and then added the new back
ground behind the merged layer.
11. Moving The Central Image
At this stage of the
manipulation of this image I
merged all layers related to
the central image and then I
moved the image down. This
was done mainly because
hair dye products have the
image of the model usually
moved down to make space
for the name of the company
and other information that
goes around and above the
main model.
12. End Product
As we can see by the end of this process, facial blemishes
were removed, the colour of hair and clothing as well as the
subjects eyes was changed and the background and are the
subject takes up on the image were also changed and the
result is the central image for a hair dye product advert.
Overall I believe I was able to achieve the desired outcome
using the Photoshop tools I used, as I mentioned before I
aimed to make an image that would be used in a hair dye
advert as the face of the product, I used tools such as the
effects bar to bring up the options to play with the hue and
saturation of the image which then allowed me to change the
colour of certain parts of the image such as the subjects hair,
hoodie or eyes and In addition to this equally as successful I
used the spot healing tool in order to remove certain
blemishes from the subjects face and to straighten out his
eyebrows and this was in order to get him closer to “the
model look” and in addition to other tools I used in this sense
I believe I was able to successfully use Photoshop tools to
achieve my desired outcome. Looking back possibly the
magic wand tool to remove the light left over lines around
the subjects hair or even change the brightness/contrast on
him and this would have help further blend him into the
image and give it a more natural look.
