Media evaluation q6
1. IPad - we used the IPad to record our voiceovers and
then we put that into our final finished opening
sequence. This was because it had a more clearer
quality compared to the film camera, where we initially
filmed our voice over before deciding that the quality
wasn’t high enough.
Tripod – we used the tripod screwed onto the camera
when filming our opening sequence to ensure that we
set up good shots and camera angles, and that the
camera didn’t move around and make the footage
shaky.
Camera – we used the camera to film our final
sequence on, which had a spare battery with it in case
it ran out whilst filming. We could zoom in and out and
the tripod also allowed us to pan across whilst filming.
Macs- using the macs were extremely important for
finishing our final piece, it had garage band and final cut
pro on so we could edit the footage and create the
diegetic and non diegetic sound needed for our final
media product. I had never used a mac before so I
learnt from scratch how to use final cut, about using
shortcuts to make the editing process quicker like using
the ‘B’ key on the keyboard to get a blade tool, and
syncing sound up to the right moment on the footage.
2. These are screen shots from the editing process of making our final
opening sequence. In the first image shown is when we first moved our
clips over to the mac in final cut so that we could use them for editing. I
learnt that you had to highlight the ones that were our favourites, so all
the ones we didn’t highlight that were poor footage or just wasteful,
weren't sent over into final cut, which made our editing process more
organised and less cluttered. We put them in a general order and then I
learnt how to cut down the clips using the blade tool shortcut, which made
it a lot faster and meant we could achieve continuity editing faster.
In the second image we learnt how to add a video we had already created
into the final cut project, in this case it being the company idents. We
downloaded the ident onto the computer and then from the desktop
moved it over to the project and put it into the opening sequence. This
saved time having to make a new ident, so we could use that time to do
more editing on our project. We had begun to add our own sounds into
the sequence, and I learnt that they had to be placed under or over the
existing footage. We could make them louder or quieter, there was a
volume control and if it went into yellow then it would sound distorted so
we would make it quieter. We could also fade the sound in and out.
In this final screenshot, There is a lot more sounds added, I learnt how to
download them and then move them over from the desktop into the
project by dragging them over from copyright free sites so it was legal to
have in the sequence. I also learnt how to layer sounds over each other,
which was good for scenes where there was many diegetic sounds that
added realism, so we could have many diegetic sounds like footsteps and
breathing at the same time, layered over each other. I also learnt if you had
footage that you wanted to hear but not see, you could put it above the
clips of footage where you wanted to hear the sound, and so that would
stop the clip showing but you could still hear the voices, which is effective
for voiceovers.
3. Pearl and Dean – this was a useful website because it helped us establish
our target audience which is an important part of distribution , as that’s
who your selling the film to in the market place and who your angling the
marketing towards too, which you have to budget if it was a real film. By
looking at films that had similar genres and themes to them, we looked
at their audiences data and who went to see it, like the age groups, and
what age group it was most popular amongst. There are also cookies on
websites like Facebook that help distributors establish a target audience,
however we couldn’t use that so Pearl and Dean was very helpful in
simulating this as close as possible.
Epidemic sound – this was a very important website for helping us find
our diegetic and non diegetic sound. It had no copyright issues so we
could easily download sounds/backing tracks and insert them into our
project.
SlideShare – this website was very good for recording our target
audience research and other things do to with recording the editing
process, planning and evaluating the final media product, because you
cant put a PowerPoint presentation directly into a mahara journal entry.
Using SlideShare we could upload our PowerPoints then get a source
code that we could use to embed the slideshow directly into our mahara
journals.
Prezi – I had never heard of or used Prezi before we had to make our
opening sequence, and it’s a very easy but a lot more detailed and
aesthetically pleasing way of presenting our research or evaluations. It is
just like a PowerPoint except it is a lot more animated the way each bit of
information is presented and appears on screen, and it already has a
source code so it is a lot faster and easier to embed directly into our
journals.
