1. In both the prelim and main product we filmed people walking, however in the main product we
wanted to emit a certain mood to the audience and so we have changed the lighting to a more
lowkey atmospheric mood as I learnt that that can make things more mysterious which is perfect
for our genre, and we have cooler tones to make it more cooler and scary/thrilling, which I didn’t
know could affect the audiences emotions in the prelim task so didn’t focus on lighting or how
the audience were going to view it.
This is a perfect example of using knowledge of continuity editing that I learnt on the prelim
task. We made sure when filming that we used the right hand on the door and that the next
shot didn’t show the door at the wrong angle. In the second one we made sure that we were
using match on action so that each clip flowed together effectively so the audience wouldn’t
notice the editing. I had learnt more about using final cut pro and so found the editing process a
lot more easier and could also have parallel editing where the stalkers are following her, because
I had learnt how to put different clips in different places and cut them down effectively.
In these images the focus is on the face, but in the main product I had learnt that the camera
angle can highlight focus on a certain character, and so in the second image from the final
product it’s a low angle shot angled upwards towards Shania's face as the main character,
which puts more focus on her character and the audience will look at her first to see her facial
expressions which can show what is happening on screen . We also made sure to stay on one
side of the 180 degree line that we learnt about in the prelim task so that nothing looked out
of place and the audience became aware of the editing. The lighting is more atmospheric in
the final product screenshot because I had learnt that it can affect the audience.
Compared to the prelim task, the final product had a lot more planning and preparation to put in. We had to plan every single shot we did using a shot list, which also had the
location of each shot planned as well. We also researched films of similar genres so that we knew the conventions of the genre and we could use them in our opening
sequence so the audience could establish the genre. We had to plan in detail when and where we were going to film each clip as we were under much more of a time
constraint in our final product than the prelim task.
