2. WHAT IS FILM DISTRIBUTION
• Film distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. The most important
strategic decisions a distributor makes are when and how to release a film in order to optimise its chances.
Through a combination of market knowledge, commercial experience, statistical research and professional
judgement, distributors gauge the audience for each film. When distributors have estimated what a film may
earn, they prepare a budget to release it.
• The job of a distributor is to create visibility and to raise enough awareness and interest in a film to persuade
potential audiences to buy tickets to go and see it at the nearest cinema at the earliest opportunity, eschewing
all other entertainment options at the time. The marketing plan – produced to complement the overall
distribution plan – is designed to navigate a route to market that allows interest to peak as the film opens in
cinemas.

4. OUR FILM VS REAL LIFE
• Our opening sequence that we based and compared are film to is Submarine which is directed by Richard
Ayoade Produced by Mary Burke Mark Herbert Andy Stebbing, with a budget of $1.5 million and a box office
profit intake of $3.8 million. The film was produced by Warpfilms and Film4productions.Submarine was
Distributed by Optimum Realsing (United Kingdom) and The Weinstein Company (United States)
• Film that The Weinstein Company have also distributed is Southpaw, Paddington and The Imitation game. As our
opening sequence/ soon to be a film is a different genre and one that is not produced as the most popular
however this is because it takes a lot of skill and clever plot lines for a teen drama to work which is what I think
we have produced therefore I would say from my research of The Weinstein Company that they would be
interested as they distribute a wide range of genres.
5. AUDIENCE APPEAL
• Would our film appeal to just a
United Kingdom audience or wider?
I would say that our film has a wide
audience appeal as there is nothing in our
plot restricting our audience in different
countries from watching our film. Also if
understand the language is a problem
then this could be easily helped with
subtitles as our film doesn’t have a lot of
dialogue and speaking, it is a very visual
film with the plot easily portrayed though
image.
6. MARKETING STRATEGIES
• A marketing strategy that I have come up with to distribute our film is that I
would realise the film on august the 1st as this is middle of summer which is
when people start to get bored for children of there summer holidays and
etc. Therefore 12 days before the film is realised which would be 20th of July.
Each day of those 12 days we would realise a teaser trailer clip only a clip
that’s 10-20 seconds so people get more of a fill for the film and what its
about. Rather then going to see the film paying all that money to see it and
then not enjoy it because they did not really know what it was about, that
would just have a negative effect on us as The Boy Behind The Blog would
get a bad reputation for the wrong reasons.
