6. Favourite Magazine
I like this masthead due to it
being red making it stand
out and grab your attention
straight away.
Having exclusive in a box
makes it stand out,
ensuring the reader sees it,
as ‘exclusive’ attracts
people to read.
The list of artists helps attract a larger
audience as their star appeal brings
people to read it. Having a list of them
means more people are targeted as
the different artists have different
fans.
The artists name in large at the top is effective as its
clear for the reader to see even if they are flicking
through the pages.
This quote has been blown up and put in a more
attractive font. This is so the article looks more
attractive, enticing people to read it.
Having a full photo page is important as it breaks up
the text and personalises the article for people who
aren’t aware of who the artist is.

10. Printing Quotes
I am going to print 20,000 copies of the magazine, this is not
a very large number but it is still a lot of magazines to get an
idea of whether or not it is going to sell. My magazine has 28
pages, and a front and back page, to print a magazine of this
size it will cost £1903.76 altogether
11. Distribution to retailer costs
• I'm going to distribute my magazines in large supermarkets such as
Sainsbury's and Tesco as well as retailers like WH Smith. The
reasoning for this is because they are all well known retailers who
have stores across the country, this means I can sell more magazine
through them and get to as many of my target customers as possible.
• When selling via large supermarkets or chains they take around 60%
of profit, this is something I need to take into consideration when
working out my profit and loss account.

12. Advertising Revenue
• In my magazine I'm going to have 10 full page advertisements, this
means that I’m going to make £30,250 (10 x £3025)
• I'm also going to have 5 half page advertisements, this means I'm going
to make £7560 (5 x £1512)
• So altogether from advertisements I'm going to make £37, 810 (£30,250
+ £7560)
13. Profit and Loss breakdown
Overall Costs
• Staff and Equipment = £782,475.20
• Printing = £1903.76
• £782,475.20 + £1903.76 = £784,378.96
Overall Revenue
• Advertising = £37, 810 (see previous slide)
• Sales = £2.99 x 20,000 = £59,800
• 40% = £23,920 (60% taken by retailers)
• £37,810 + £23,920 = £61,730
Profit
£61,730 - £784,378.96 = -£722,648.96

18. Target Audience
Both my magazines are of the same genre, therefore the target market for both magazines will be the same.
Hartley’s Theory
Age: the age would be around 15-40 as most people between this age would be interested in current music which is
what my magazine will have, the majority of older people would be more interested in music from their time.
Gender: the target gender will be male, as my magazine is going to be rap/hip-hop which is mainly listened to by
males
Katz’s Theory
Inform and Educate: The reader will learn about what the artists are doing or what they are promoting in the
magazine.
Personal identification: The readers may relate to the artist or their stories if they are talking about having nothing
then working hard to gain fame, which may inspire people who have nothing to go out and make a name for
themselves.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
The audience for this theory I think would be caregivers as the people reading the magazine want to read the
articles about artists they like and sympathize with struggles they are having or something similar.
Socio-Economics
The majority of people buying the magazine would be from C1 or C2 as the magazine costs quite a lot for what it is
so lower classes may not be able to afford it. Also people of higher classes have a taste in different music like
classical which isn't covered in Q magazine
