Welcome...
ENVIROMENT---- (SLIDE3)
I have got images ofthe computer an apple mac where I have produced my magazine and where
my presentationwill be shownfrom. I have also got an image of a slide changer,so that I don’t
have to stand by the computer. Lastly, I have got an image of the interactive whiteboard where
my presentationwill be showedfrom.
PROPOSAL--- (SLIDE 6)
Genre--R&B/UKGrime.
-A lot ofyoung people are interestedinthese genres.
Title-
I want to make sure that my magazine masthead iseye-catchingto the reader.‘SimplySound’is
short and snappy therefore rememberable.
I have also includedalliterationwithinthe masthead of my magazine, using alliterationwithinthe
masthead almost givesthe masthead rhythm therefore itis a lot easierto remember.
Content-
-Reviewsfromthe publicon recent albums.
-Up-comingevents,suchas festivals, concerts.(Aswell as usingpuff promotioninvitingthe public
to win tickets to a concert).
Interaction withthe readers-
-informationon upcomingevents.
-Facts/gossipon popularartists.
-Images.
Price for both my magazinesare £3.25 each.
TARGET READERSHIP ---~(SLIDE7)
Compared to Q music magazine my target audience are goingto be ages 15-18+, for BOTH MY
MAGAZINEIDEAS as I think they wouldenjoythe type of music my magazine covers, when it
comes to the socio-economicdemographicsmy target audience wouldfit into category E and
whenit comes to their psychographicsthey wouldfit into ‘Aspirers’because they‘SEEK STATUS’.
This means materialistic, acquisitive orientatedtoimage and appearance personaand fashion.
Attractive packaging more important then contents.Typically youngerpeople, clerical and sales
jobs. Whenitcomes to my theory my magazine bestfits into Hartley as I am basingmy magazine
on around age, gender,and ethnicity.
MASTHEAD AND HOUSE COLOURS ---(SLIDE8)
Schemes-Mymaincolour schemesin my magazine are going to be grey and yellow. The reason I
have pickedthese two colours is because I want my magazine to appeal to both girls and boys. So
therefore the grey side of the magazine is for the boys and the yellowfor the girls,so that my
magazine is coveringboth genders.
‘SimplySound’ isshort and snappy therefore rememberable.Ihave chosentocall my magazine
‘simplysound’because my magazine is simplygoing to basedround music which creates a ‘sound’
as well as thissome people use the word ‘sound’ as describingsomethingwhichis good.I have
also includedalliterationwithinthe masthead of my magazine, using alliterationwithinthe
masthead almost givesthe masthead rhythm therefore itis a lot easierto remember.
SIMPLY SOUNDVS SOUND KEY----(SLIDE9)
As you can see both my magazine ideas are quite similar, the main thingI have change in the
house colours, the reason why I didn’twant to change a lot whenit comes to the layout is because
young teenagersI feel aren’tmassive attracted to the layout of the magazine and more to the
colours and who is the star artist.
MARKETING AND ADVERTISING MY MAGAZINE---- (SLIDE10)
My magazine will be competingagainst ‘Q music magazine’, the reasonfor this is because I was
inspiredby some of the featuresthat Q magazineusessuch as the placementofthe logo, and the
differentsizedfonts. the price of my magazine is going to be a lot more cheaper, compared to ‘Q
music magazine’the reasonfor this is because my target audience are a lot youngerthan Qs target
audience therefore ifI kept the price as the same as Q’s price I feel that my target audience wont
be able to afford it because they wouldeitherbe employedorhave a small job that doesn’tpay a
lot unlike Qs target audience.
ADVERTISING---- (SLIDE10)
One way in whichI am going to advertise my magazine isvia the social media
I am goingto advertise my musicmagazine via social media-
• Facebook.
• Twitter.
BenefitsofSocial mediaadvertising-
• Cheap.
• Mass audience- therefore mymagazine will become more popular.
• Typically a quick response as everyone isonline.
• Communicationand interaction withmy target audience directly, therefore buildinga
relationshipwiththem therefore gatheringmore ideasfor more magazinesto come.
PRODUCING SIMPLY SOUND---- (SLIDE11)
Firstly,I began with a plan which drew out ruff sketchesofmy front cover and double page
spread. Once I had gatheredmy ideas for my front cover, and decidedwhat house colours I
wanted to use I beganto create my magazine using‘Photoshop’using tools such as the quick
eraser tool, blendingoptionsand the paint bucket tool.
I then gatheredsome of my own images, inpreparation for the main artists cover on the
magazine. After this I workedon my magazine cover more adding all the conventionsthat I was
inspiredby in ‘Q musicmagazine’.
PLAN OF PRODUCTION--- (SLIDE12)
Here I have createda 3-4 week planof what I am going to do leadingup to the release date ofmy
magazine.
PRE-PRODUCTIONMATERIALS--- (SLIDE 13)
Whendecidingwhat font I want in my magazine, I want to make sure that it isconsistent
throughout. I have also made sure that my font looksinterestingas it would appeal/addressto the
target audience.I have chosenseveral fonts that will be usedin my magazine, because some are
easierto read than otherswhen sizeddifferently, althoughIdidn'twant my magazine to contain a
lot of differentfontsas it could justconfuse the reader, and become messy.
DRAFT INTERVIEW AND HAND DRAWN DRAFTS---(SLIDE14)
This image demonstrateshow I have hand drawn 2 ideasfor my front cover and double page
spread, I didthis so I had a ruff ideaof how I wantedmy magazine to look. Afterplanning I began
to write up the interviewwitha seriesof questions.I beganto draft questionsbefore finalizing
what I was actually going to write,I didthis so that I wasn’t just asking closedquestionslike ‘Yes
or No
