2. ‘Main task jingle’
That was our jingle for our news bulletin for our
main task. It is very welcoming as the news jingle
is very upbeat. It tells the audience, what they are
listening to and what time it is and then Harry
comes in and says, ‘Hello, this is Harry
Broughton’. So he introduces himself and
welcomes the audience, telling them the time and
it is very relaxed as he says ‘hello’ instead of
something less informal and brings in the
audience and makes them want to listen.
3. ‘Oldham community radio’s jingle’
Now that was Oldham community radio’s opening. The
news jingle was very upbeat like ours and it had someone
saying Oldham community radio over the top like ours did
as well. But then the welcoming from the presenter was
very serious and it was from the sky news people. That’s
why it says ‘sky’ but it was really quite serious and not
really that friendly and for me I wouldn’t really want to
listen to that so maybe they should do what we did and
make it a little friendly and then they’ll target the audience
then. That’s pretty much it as far as openings are
concerned. I am now going to play you a bit of Oldham
community radio’s news bulletin to show you about the
scripting of it.
4. ‘A part of OCR’s news bulletin’.
In this news bulletin they use the inverted triangle as
they start of with the 5 w’s, who, what, when, where
and why? They say that the who is the man who was
arrested, why he was arrested was because of the
racist gesture, what’s happening- he’s being released
and when- it was during the match. They then go on
saying more important things after it and then it ends
but they do the who, what, why, when, where first and
then the other stuff after it. I will now play a part of my
news story and you should see that I also used the
inverted triangle and the five w’s when scripting my
bulletin.
5. ‘part of my news bulletin’.
As you can see we also used the inverted triangle and the 5 w’s
we said, who it was, when it happened, where it happened and
what happened as well. We didn’t quite get onto why but that’s
ok I think we did say what was happening after that- the less
important things from the inverted triangle and then we went onto
interview police officer who wasn’t involved in the thing but
obviously he’s a police officer so would know about it. We used
the three words per second rule when working out how long it
should be in the script I’m not sure whether Oldham community
radio did this but I am sure at the same time as most radio
stations have to do this and that’s probably it when it comes to
the scripting of this. I am now going on to talk about our
presenter who is Harry and the sky news and Oldham
community radio’s presenter. I will now show you a part of
Oldham community radios first and then I will talk about Harry.
6. ‘A part of OCR’s bulletin’.
The news presenter was very formal and he
speaks really seriously as it is serious news most
of the time but he has a very interesting voice to
add emphasis and makes it more interesting in
that way and keeps the audience interested. He
speaks with the three words per second rule but
he doesn’t speak too fast, he speaks just right
which perhaps we don’t quite do in our as you will
see next.
7. ‘Part of our news bulletin’.
As you can see our presenter doesn’t speak quite
as clear as there presenter or as loud but he did
do a really good job and he did try really
hard, because....he did really good job really it’s
just he could have spoken a little bit slower so
people could listen to him better. Also our
presenter is just 16 (or 17) years old whereas the
presenter on Oldham community radio is probably
a lot older and more experienced in this matter.
8. We had three news stories the first one was about the
two policemen who were injured in the hit and run the
next news story was about the pride of Oldham and
his nomination of Jeremy Broadbent and the next one
was the sports story about Oldham athletics. These
are all very close to home to the people of Oldham
whereas at Oldham community radio it was more
national and applied to all of the country really and
therefore isn’t as close to home as ours but it was still
quite relevant to Oldham and it was very interesting
news stories as well and current aswell.
9. Both are rather equal in pace and speed and the
length of them are quite simalar as well they are
both are about four minutes long and therefore
this shows ours is very similar to Oldham
community radio in that way as they are both very
similar in that aspect which keeps the audience
interested as it doesn’t go on for too long and it
can change the subject quit often so it is bringing
as many news stories in the short amount of time
that it can.
10. In our news bulletin we have interviews with people inside
and outside of the studio. The Jeremy Broadbent interview
was inside the studio as he came to us. The PC Neil
England interview was outside of the studio as we went to
him. We also had vox pops for the Jeremy Broadbent
news story as well as the Oldham Athletic news story. This
is to show a wide range of views in it and views of the
audience in the news bulletin so that would attract the
audiences attention as they are having their views shown
wheras in Oldham community radios bulletin they only did
interviews from outside the studio- I think. Which I don’t
really like because I think that they should include vox
pops to get the audiences views on the thing. So in this
instance I do actually prefer ours to Oldham community
radio because we used the audiences views.
11. We used a lot of editing in ours including sound bites
and vox pops background sounds to make it sound
more real because a lot of our stuff couldn’t have
happened outside of the studio – especially the vox
pops so we had to make it sound like we were wereas
with Oldham community radio they were outside when
they needed to be outside so they didn’t need to do all
of them things but they did also use some editing like
the voice over at the begining of the jingle and all of
that. I think it sounds really good. So we did do more
editing but they didn’t really need to do the editing so
it was equal in that respect.
12. So overall we did stick to the conventions of a
news bulletin as we used th 3 second rule we had
a jingle in and one out we used the 5w’s and the
inverted triangle and we did all this to make it fit
with the news conventions.
