How did you attract or address your audience?
It is key to keep the audience and their best interests in
mind. Attracting them to your magazine is the key to
success, this needs to be done consciously when creating a
front cover. I took into account how professional front
covers did this and tried to apply them to my own work.
Colour Schemes
The flames were then used throughout the front cover to add to
continuity, also they were reflected through my colour scheme it was
key not to make them look out of place. The colours used nicely
contrast with each other making viewing pleasure as best as possible
for the audience. I tried to keep the colour scheme basic and not over
complicate the viewing of it, I tried to keep it to a maximum of three
this would enforce a sense of brand identity the flames back this up it
gives the audience a sense of danger which is what most young people
enjoy and look for within music. The use of three colours gives a more
sophisticated viewing I thought the use of too many colours would
appeal to a younger audience than what I was aiming for.
Masthead
I found the key to success is to have a powerful masthead that is clear
but concise, something that will turn the heads of the target audience.
Instead of the standard bold font I thought it would be good to go for a
different approach and incorporate some flame effects to the
masthead in order to really stand out from the competition I thought I
would add something new and modern in order to appeal to my
audience.
Cover Lines
The use of cover lines were used to attract the audience with
summarising points that would hopefully appeal to them, the images
and these cover lines should compliment each other and work
together in order to interest audiences. The cover lines stand out from
the background so the audience can clearly see them and know what
they expect to see within. The use of prepositions suggest to the
audience that they are getting more than they paid for making the
magazine seem value for money and hopefully securing sales.
Main Image
The use of the midshot really captures the models concentration in his
work, It is conventionally the largest image and deliberately one that
would appeal to audiences. The use of his guitar really shows the
audience what they would expect to find within the magazine.
I kept the brand identity running through my contents page, the
colour scheme is exactly the same as used on the front page as well
as the font this is so it is familiar to the audience and keeps the
magazine consistent. Some of the pages on the contents have
footnotes in order to keep the audience interested and so that they
know what to expect on such pages, the same is done with the
images.
Images
Like most contents pages I tried to insert as many images as
possible in order to appeal and attract the audience as i didn't want
them to be overwhelmed with text. The images are anchored with
page numbers so that the audience can easily find what they want
to read. Also I included an image of the editor and his views on the
week to make the magazine seem more personal to the audience
and as if he personally was addressing them this is emphasised
through the signature.
Layout
I adopted the layout of my contents from other magazines, I chose
to use the grid layout for ease of viewing on the audiences behalf,
the use of columns break up the text and makes it less of an eye
sore for the audience, also the images break up text well.
Colours
The colours used again are to enforce
the brand identity so the audience still
feels apart of the same magazine, the
colours reflect the masthead of the
article through their striking contrast.
The colours nicely contrast each other so
that the article is easily legible.
Pullout Quotes
The use of pull out quotes break up the text so
that the audience isnt overwhelmed with
masses amounts of text. Also i chose to use the
pullout quote that would be most appealing to
my target audince as it is what most people
aged 17-25 are in to this would then hopefully
make the consumer read the whole article.
Costume
As the rock industry is predominantly male
I decided to challenge the stereotype by
using an attractive female, hopefully
appealing to the audience more. Her
costume should be symbolic of the genre
as many artists are renown for their iconic
leather jacket and their dark attire.
