The document discusses the planning and inspiration for a movie poster and magazine. It describes how the poster and magazine will feature a split face to represent the movie's theme of a character with two faces and a split personality. Black and white was chosen for the color scheme to subtly represent the movie's themes and match the black and white edits used in the movie. The magazine cover was designed to incorporate motivational messages to entice readers, inspired by magazine covers from TIME and Science that use typography effectively. The simple and clean design of the magazine cover took inspiration from magazines TIDAL and PAPER to feature a bold masthead and image in a box.
2. Inspiration
My movie trailer is about a character being two faced
towards his friend and having a split personality, so straight
away I had an idea of what the magazine and poster will
feature. For inspiration I checked for examples of posters
involving split faces to execute the design at a high level.
The magazine Dazed and Confused usually does magazine
covers of full faced images, but this one was different.
The colour of the poster and magazine covers were going to
be black and white because I love the subtlety of tones that
black and white images can have and also to play on the
movie name. the movie is called True Colours but I’ll be using
black and white even though they're not colours because the
characters don’t display there true colours. Also in my edits I
use cutaway shots with black and white edits, therefore I
wanted to stick to a colour scheme.
3. Inspiration
My movie trailer has powerful messages inputted into the
video. Magazine front covers functions are to entice readers to
buy a magazine and to tempt readers to buy what they see, so I
thought it will be inventive to incorporate messages into the
magazine cover to either motivate readers or prompt the
audience to see what the magazine cover is about .
I searched up for typography magazine covers which have been
published. I found that the TIME and Science magazine with an
example of Typography.
Typography creates visual logic and directs users to the many
messages that marketers need to deliver. Typography is a tool
that can add emotion, drama and personality to the printed
matter, making it more visually appealing. It can subconsciously
embed the message in the mind of the reader, making it easier
for them to understand, grasp and comprehend the presented
information.
4. Magazine design
Here you can see my design of my magazine cover which
involves inspiration from a few sources. The aim of my
magazine cover was to be simple and have a clean finish.
The simple design of a bold masthead and having a image
in a box was inspired by the magazine TIDAL. TIDAL is
known for having print magazines that focus on fashion,
lifestyle, and culture and every page you see has
something beautiful: fashion that’s approachable,
entertaining stories that are fun and inviting, and
celebrity profiles that are interests of those of my target
audience. Then I used the magazine PAPER to also help
with the colour scheme and the box design.
