2. UNITAR Series of e-Courses on International Environmental Law
Objectives and Expected Outcomes
The aim of this Series of e-Courses on International Environmental Law is to provide a broad introduction to international environmental law, introducing its fundamental
principles, law-making process, main actors, implementation and compliance procedures, and negotiations of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEA) based on the current
legal challenges in international environmental law. At the end of the four e-courses, participants should be able to: (a) Identify the sources, principles, concepts and law-making
procedures framing international environmental law; (b) Differentiate the role of main actors involved in the development of international environmental law who can negotiate
and conclude agreements and formulate policy instruments; (c) Identify the techniques and procedures to further improve compliance and enforcement of international
environmental obligations at national level; (d) Describe and explain the international environmental law negotiation process and (e) Examine and interpret the content of MEAs.
Series of e-Courses on International Environmental Law
The Series of e-Courses on International Environmental Law consists of 4 courses. Each one of the four courses is completed in two week time.

e-Course 3: Techniques and Procedures in International Environmental Law e-Course 4: International Environmental Negotiations
Duration and Workload
The duration of the entire series is eight weeks, with a workload equivalent to a ten day face-to-face training workshop. During this time, participants are required to read all
compulsory reading materials, consult further readings and links, answer to the case studies, prepare short written assignments, take part in weekly discussion boards and take
the module self-assessments.
Methodology
The e-courses are delivery through UNITARâs virtual platform and it provides the participants with a) online compulsory reading materials; (b) additional reading materials and
references; (c) glossary of terms; (d) instructor-moderated discussion boards; (e) instructorâs feedback on the answers to case studies; (f) instructorâs feedback on the written
reports; (g) community tools for email exchanges among participants and with instructors and (h) self-assessments.
Certificate
UNITAR attests that the bearer of this certificate has successfully completed the fourth e-course of the Series, International Environmental Negotiations , and has fulfilled
all course requirements including: reading and assimilating all course lessons and resources, taking all course assessments, participating in the discussion board forums and
obtaining a grade of 70% or above on all assessments activities.
