4. PROGRESSION AND LEARNING
The first key progression is the images
used and simplicity of the preliminary task.
The image used in the preliminary had no
focus on mise en scene, lighting, angles or
camera shots. This would contrast with my
final production which heavily focused on
these elements. Moreover I edited my
images and manipulated my images while
adding different lighting whereas in my
preliminary I simply just cropped the photo
and dropped it into the page while doing
same with the text. This happened due to
my knowledge gained through tutorials
which helped me learn to use my camera
better for better shots as well as improve
my editing on Photoshop which can suit my
intentions for my final production
On top of the image I wanted to improve the text
and layout. The preliminary contained very
standard with there being very little text and was
very simple. There was no focus on the text and
no focus on any fonts or contents. In my final
product I used a bold font to go with the
conventions of my genre and there was more
focus on the content as well as the layout of the
text instead of just placing it anywhere..
Furthermore there were a wider variety of bodies
of texts and more than just two fonts were used
therefore giving it more detail. For example the
masthead and the cover lines were differently
structured as there was focus upon them and
acknowledging that the masthead should be s
different size to the cover lines.
5. PROGRESSION AND LEARNING
Another key improvement would be how I
layout my magazine. The layout of my
preliminary was very basic with no complexity
or focus to detail. However in my final
production I had gained more knowledge and
skills with Photoshop and became more
comfortable with layering and editing, which
created a more complex and creative
magazine. Through tutorials on YouTube I
could edit the photos on the front cover which
I did not do on the preliminary as well as
editing the text with different colours. This
therefore added a more professional look to it.
Researched showed me how vital the
masthead was in making the
magazine stand out. I had learned
how to make it more bold and
colourful therefore making it more
eye catching, this was not visible in
my preliminary. The ability to
manipulate images and letters
allowed me to create better spacing
and height to produce better features
like the masthead which gave me a
more eye catching and professional
final product.
