4. Progression and Learning
Images, The image used for my preliminary task front cover is very dull and has not been edited very well.I changed
This when taking images for my final production by taking a variety of bright and colourful pictures for my contents
Page as oppose to just using one.I spent time planning where my photos would be taken and it taught me how to
Understand how to use the cameras ISO aperture efficiently. This made the images a much better quality and gives
A proffessional feel and look. Throughout the process I learnt how to use photoshop well and learnt how to adjust
Brightness and contrast and do things such as edit the models eyes and edit out door handles to create a more
Appealing mise en scene.
The text in my final production has improved a lot from the
Preliminary task. The masthead on my preliminary front
Cover was not bold and had no drop shadow effect. The
Fonts on my preliminary front cover also weren’t very easy to
Read and made the cover look messy and unprofessional.I
Used photoshop to edit my fonts to give my front cover and
Contents a professional and tidy look.
5. Progression and learning
Masthead for the preliminary task and final production, The mastheads on both magazines
Are not similar at all, the preliminary masthead is simple and not eyecatching whereas
The final production piece has a bold masthead that stands out from the page due to
The drop shadow effect used.
By looking into the codes and conventions of magazines and having a better knowledge of
Photoshop the layout of my magazine became more complex which would appeal to my
Audience. I learnt how to use layers on photoshop to make the page look better and add
More things to it.
6. I also applied all the skills I had learnt making my front cover and contents page
To make the double page spread the best it could be
7. Progression and learning
• Images using a digital SLR I took images at various inside locations after using
tutorials on how to use the camera to get the best outcomes. I then manipulated
the images using photoshop adjusting the settings so the images looked of a
professional quality.
• The layout of my double page spread is very similar to the ones I researched in my
codes and conventions (Q magazine for example ) This information helped me
produce a double page spread with a flowing and interesting conventional layout.
• Text ,I used text in different ways to make the page look interesting I used the
convention of 3 columns and used a variety of fonts and sizes to make the page
look interesting.I also used drop shadows to make the text stand out .
• I learnt many new skills from my preliminary to the production of my final product
these skills helped me create my double page spread and improve the layout and
images.
8. Conclusion
• In conclusion the professional outcome of my final product had hugely improved
from my preliminary task due to the techniques I used and learnt. This included
using a digital SLR camera and learning how to use it properly ( using tutorials )
and by also using tutorials to discover how to use photoshop to manipulate images
to look there best.If I had not learnt these skills and techniques my magazine
would not have had a professional consistency and when researching my codes
and conventions I would not have learnt how to do my design and planning before
hand.
