The target audience for the media product was 16-25 year old males and females interested in chart music, R&B, and hip hop. Focus groups with this target audience provided feedback to help design a product that would appeal to them.
To attract both male and female audiences, neutral dark colors like black and red were used throughout. While more details targeted male interests, female music icons and a double page female spread helped attract females. The front cover used a bold, bright design with "exclusive" content to draw attention, while the male model's neutral pose could appeal to females.
The contents page featured three different models and stories to attract readers with exclusive content presented in an unstructured, free-flowing
1. Evaluation question 4 and 5
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
AND
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE
2. TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for my film was:
• 16-25 both males and females
• Interested in chart music/ RnB/ hip hop
• Regular music listeners
The focus group was used in the process of my production as they contained people within
my target audience thus their opinions and views could be used to help me produce a product
which would focus at their target audience.
3. ATTRACTING MY TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience consisted of both males and females alike.
The colours I used are mainly neutral dark colours of black and a bold red, both are neutral
and not associated with any gender so can attract both genders. Research showed me that
within my genre of magazine that males tended to heavily dominate it thus explains why I put
more detail within attracting the male audience yet with the other colours of red and white also
kept some sort of female attention as well as using female music idols such as Rihanna in
there which in turn is enough to attract a female audience. I used a multiple number of models
which were heavily largely males but the double page spread consisted of a female model and
that page was a bit more female targeted as I wanted to attract the female audience, therefore
adjustments to the layout and text were made to grab the eye of the female audience.
4. FRONT COVER
My front cover is very bold and quite bright instantly
catching the eye and separating it from other
magazines. The colour scheme of red, black, and
white is relatively neutral and is a convention of this
genre of magazine and reflect the type of audience I
want to attract. The word “exclusive” suggests this
magazine has something other magazines do not,
this in turn draws the attention of the reader. The
male model used also has a neutral pose which
goes against the hegemonic norms of aggression
associated with some types of magazines in this
genre, this allows it to attract a female audience as
well as a male one which would not of been
possible if the model went with the hegemonic norm
of aggression
5. CONTENTS PAGE
My contents page contains 3 different models to
Attract the readers as each one has a different
Story associated with them and shows that this
Magazine has a lot of exclusive content that other
Magazines do not. The layout of the contents is
Unstructured like most magazines you see, as it
Gives more of a free flowing type of effect which
Can be correlated with the free flow of the music
Genre of hip hop. The colour scheme is also
Important as it is relatively neutral compared to
The heavy male dominance of the photos so
Therefore keeps females attracted.
6. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
This page was mainly targeting the
female audience s both the
contents page and front cover were
heavily aimed at the male target
audience. The words “from Poland
to la stardom” entices the person to
read on as they may be interested
in the story as many hip hop artists
have inspiring stories so it kind of
follows the hegemonic norms. Yet it
kept with the colour scheme as it is
used within all the magazine to still
keep males intrigued as well as
females. The quote at the bottom is inspiring and mainly targeting
the female audience to keep their interests and gives it a
personal connection to the reader as they gain in depth
information into the models life, giving it exclusivity other
magazines may not have.
