2. Overview-
Plot/story- The story of my music video is one full of adventure and exploration. The video heavily involves the
motif of the flame present in the lyrics. The video will involve 4 girls who have ‘returned to primality’ and have
once again gone to live with nature and it follows the trials and tribulations of these girls as they attempt to
successfully live away from modern society, I will be showing these girls doing things such as: building a fire,
hunting for food and looking for shelter, these girls will all be shown trying to live in the forest among nature as
their previous lives were not fulfilling their individual needs.
Genre- The genre of this music video will be indie/rock, much like the song and it’s lyrics. I enjoy this genre as it
envelop many different kinds of music and music videos.
The music video will require 4 female actors, who I have already scheduled dates and times for filming with. I
will be using the assistance of the actors: Madeleine French, Holly Jefferies, Alice Dawkins And Katherine
Richards, all of these girls are able to meet up at the selected time and ill all be wearing the costumes and
props provided to them.
Song choice- I chose this song specifically because of the fact that I largely enjoy this song and the fist moment
I heard it without the music video I had a clear image of the kind of video that I wanted to make. I also enjoy
the genre of the song and its imagery very much, I think that by choosing this song I an make a video that I
genuinely enjoy.
3. Locations-
The locations in my video will mostly be in public places- the forest clips will all be
filmed in Blaise castle, I truly believe that this is the best location for the parts of the
music video that require some sort of natural scenery, this is a public domain and
does not need permission to film on, I will be going Saturday to enquire about certain
potential filming spots and will take some pictures and mark them on a map of Blaise
castle woods that I have printed out. On problem I need to take into account when
filming in a public domain is that other people may wander into shots without
knowing, this means that I need to take into account the timing of my filming with
the amount of people that visit Blaise Castle at that selected time. Furthermore I
have to take into account the fact that I will need to build a fire in the woods,
therefore I am going to film in an open area for the fire shots and will have a way to
put out the fire on hand. (My dad will be helping me with the safety aspect of this
filming.)
For some parts of the song I will be utilising the stage in Marlwood school to use to
create the image of a band, I already have permission to use the hall and the schools
facilities. I will take some pictures of the spots at M
Marlwood I will be using and will film some practice footage in the spots I will be
filming in.
I will also be using various places in and around Pilning as there are some very good
spots to get some extra footage to improve the length and quality of the video.
4. Characters and Actors-
I have 4 main characters featuring in my music video, The actors are: Madeleine French, Holly
Jefferies, Alice Dawkins And Katherine Richards. The characters they are playing are four
anonymous/nameless girls who are all aiding each other into their venture into the wilderness.
All our actors were chosen because they have good availability and are also have the image that I
want in my video, they all largely suit indie/rock clothes and all are willing to wear what I ask and be
in the video, they are all very focused when it comes to school work so I believe that I will be able to
make a god quality video efficiently and in the time provided.
These characters are all very indie/rock influenced, hence the reason for their very abnormal venture
into the wilderness, they are all girls who are fed up with society, which can be seen as the
stereotypical indie attitude, while I don’t want to validate the stereotypes of indie people, I want to
make a video that many people can relate to whilst also being enjoyable. These characters are all
appropriate for my genre because they are all included in the indie/rock genre and are all very indie
influenced in their presentation(clothes).
The characters will all be wearing tribal/indie clothes and will all be sporting tribal face paint. This
matches the theme of the video and the images presented in it.

5. Storyboard/ Filmmaking Techniques
The storyboard I have made for my music video is so far very much just an initial draft but it has largely helped me
recognise the shots and the plot I want for my music video. In my storyboard I have denoted how long each of the
frames will be and have decided on the exact things that will happen in the frames. He storyboard has largely helped
me to understand how I am going to film my video and the frames that I will be using. I’m going to use my storyboard
to help organise my video and the footage I will be recording. I have also made a separate storyboard and have
grouped the shots I will do for each different day and time that I have scheduled, for example I am going to film the
first and last shots on the same day as they both end with the same location and while using the same props,
therefore I believe it will be easier to film these on the same day.
I am going to pay close detail to the techniques I use in my filming, I am to use as many filmmaking techniques as
possible to diversify my filming. I have already included a plethora of filming techniques on my story board such as
over the shoulder shots and deep focus shots, these are all techniques that can be used to improve the quality of my
media piece. I have also decided to use some slow motion shots in my media, this will be used very well when I use
the slow motion on the flame at the start of the media piece, I am going to use this shot to ‘set the scene’ and denote
to my audience the genre this media piece falls into.
I have practiced many of these techniques already in my filming, I believe that I am already quite proficient with these
techniques but I will need to practice them some more before my final piece.
I have also purchased a steady cam stabilizer to help when filming my final piece. This will be a good help to decrease
the amount of shaky cam shots that I have previously encountered. This is also a good way to reduce the amount of
static shots used in my filming, as I cannot move freely and fludily with a tripod.
6. Scheduling.
My scheduling has been relatively difficult with the amount of people that I am attempting to use in my music video, I
am currently using 4 actors and they all work at varying times in different places, I have however been sent everyone’s
shift times so I can find a day and time that suits every one of my actors, I have decided upon various practice filming
days so that I can become more familiar with the shots and filming times that I will be using in my final piece. To
ensure that I can start my final piece I am going to create a full schedule for everyday and every time that I can film
and what I will be doing each time I film. However I do need to take into account the fact that plans can change
because of thins such as weather and unexpected events that may happen while filming. I will take into account these
things and will plan to film on days that are forecasted with my ideal weather, however again I need to take into
account that the weather may not be what is forecasted.
Another problem I have had is the scheduling of the Marlwood school hall, as we get closer to Christmas the hall is
being rented out to many people already and it is hard to find a time that works for me that also works for the school,
I am in the process of booking the hall for a couple of hours so I can efficiently film the clips of my product that
require a stage, I am also in the process of requesting a teacher be on site when filming to help with the lighting in the
hall, I aim to use some high key lighting with some colourful undertones, the colour lights attached to the ceiling will
need to be operated by a teacher and I am currently trying to find someone that will help with this. Furthermore the
last problem I have encountered is the purchase of props and costumes, I am using some very diverse and hard to
obtain costumes(tribal outfits). I have also encountered the problem of finding the perfect props for my filming, such
as the instruments used in the onstage shots. I have requested the use of the music departments instruments in the
use of my filming but I need to finalise whether I can in fact use them.
