Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this lesson an audio will be use to support
the presentation and exposure of the students to the teaching issue.
Seating arrangement: students will be seated in their desks in groups of five
or six. At some point of the lesson they will change the group.
Cooperative work: at this age children may experience difficulty sharing
materials and working cooperatively to accomplish the task therefore activities
3. 3
have to be very simple, short in time and reachable for every kind of learner.
Possible problems/difficulties and their possible solution during the
class: at this stage the main problem that may emerge is that students do not
understand the directions in English, therefore sometimes after giving the
direction in the target language students may need an explanation in their
mother tongue. Timing is another issue to pay attention to. This is a 30 minutes
class therefore activities have to be dynamic and sometimes the teacher needs
to consider that, according to the class mood, the lesson would be given totally
or partially. Readaptation of contents during the class should not be discarded.
Potential problems students may have with the language: Not always but
sometimes students do not understand why do they need to learn another
language. At higher levels the teacher may try to explain this in a more rational
way but in kindergarten this is not possible. I believe the key to success is to
teach them things that they are interested in through the target language. Make
it more attractive. Use current issues such as characters, games, films etc. The
teacher is the one who have to adequate her/his vocabulary to be
comprehensible for the kids. For example when the teacher says “This is a ……”
It may be necessary point the figure or draw it on the board or help the
students to draw it in their notebooks.
Assessment: what will be asses and how: I will check students comprehend
and identify different shapes, colors and numbers. I will also check hoe they
respond to my commands and if they understand them. Process will be assess,
not product. At this stage there are no final or partial exams.
-Routine 5´
Purpose: to start with the lesson and get closer to the students in order to start
working.
I will enter the classroom and greet students. Hello children! How are you today? To
start with children may have not known the answer to this question, at least in the
target language or they might have forgotten how to answer it, therefore a little help
would be useful. I will use some cards to help them answer this question.
Happy! Sad! Tired! Sleepy! Hungry! Angry!
Then I will ask:
T: How are you today? (And I will show them the pictures and I will help them with the
pronunciation)
4. 4
T: Are you happy? (Making a big smile)
Ss: Yes/ no happy!
T: or maybe…..are you sad?
Ss: Yes/no sad!
T: or maybe…… tired?
Ss: Yes/no, tired!
T: mmm are you sleepy? (Making a yawn) I think some of you need a pillow
(pointing to my head and to the pillow in the picture)
Ss: Yes/ no sleepy!
T: Well I think by this time you may be……hungry? (Pointing to a watch and to my
stomach)
Ss: Yes/ no hungry!
T: Tell me how are you, angry maybe?
Ss: Yes/no angry!
Transition:Well donekids! You did it excellent! now lets start working!(thisactivity
shouldnottake more than 5 minutes, ithasto be dynamic)
Warm up 5´
Purpose: to start with the lesson and introduce the vocabulary
-I will start the class by showing them different objects, a red, yellow, blue and
green triangle, circle, square and rectangle.
- I will prepare those shapes for them to have on their tables. There will be four
shapes, and colors and numbers (from 1 to 4) because the class is already
organized in four groups.
- I will give the children a set of shapes done of paperboard:
Group number ONE
Group number TWO
Group number THREE
Group number FOUR
5. 5
- I will name all the shapes and colorsand I will show them to the class by saying:
T: Look atthis! It is one green rectangle! Repeatwith me!
Ss: Onegreen rectangle!
(Andsoon withthe four shapes)
- Then I will name one shape and the group that has it will show the shape to the
class.
- T: Ok children now you have to show me where are the shapes (if it is necessary
the direction will be given also in their mother tongue)
- T: Let´s see….! Show me the yellow square!
- Ss: here here! ( students will show the figure)
- T: ok excellent that is the yellow square! Now show me the green circle!
- Ss: Here here! (students will show the class the green circle)
- T: Excellent children! You are great! Well now show me three triangles. The red,
the blue and the green triangles!
- Ss: Here, here!
- T: Well done! Excellent! Now to finish show me the four rectangles!
- Ss: Here here!
- Excellent! Well done!
-
Transition: well done children! Now we are going to relax and enjoy the next
activity. You will need to be quiet and make silence! (Directions are always supported
by repeating them in their mother tongue, body language, voice tones, miming, face
expressions etc. otherwise children may feel unmotivated if they do not know what to
do)
Presentation 5´: To introduce the lesson I will play a video about shapes and
students have to watch it.
They are going to watch it twice. The second time they are going to trying to
repeat the words that they already know such as square, triangle, rectangle and
circle. I will emphasize pronunciation.
T: All right children now you need to make silence. Sit down, relax, and be quiet. I
will turn the lights off and you will watch a nice video. You will watch it once and
then we are going to sing it together!

6. 6
Transition: Well done children you sang beautiful! Now we are going to play a
funny game!
Practice 10´:
In the practice stage what children will do is to create a picture. The picture
they have to create is the same of the song.
Materials: All the material is done in plush with velcro to make it easy when
children add the shapes.
7. 7
-The teacher will give them a sample of the picture and she will also give them
different shapes (rectangle, triangle, square and rectangle) because they will
need to complete on the board another picture with the missing shapes.
-On the board there will be a poster like this:
The teacher explains the activity:
-T: Ok children there is an empty picture on the board and you have the full picture on
your desks. We are going to complete the figure.
Who have the squares?
Ss: here here squares!
T. Ok put them on the poster. (they will use the full picture to guide them where to put
the squares)
T: Excellent! Now who have the rectangles?
8. 8
Ss: Here here!
T: ok good! Put them on the poster. Excellent! Now, the circles!
Ss: Here here!
T: Excellent! Let´s paste them on the poster! Bravo!! Now the last ones….the triangles!
Ss: here here!!!!
T: Excellent children you did it right! Well done! (The teacher will add the rest of the
figures that they don´t learned yet, diamond and oval)
Transition: Excellent children you did it beautiful! Now you are going to create your
own pictures. Children have already created a picture with the teacher guidance and
monitoring now it is time to leave them to create their own outcomes.
Production 5´: The teacher will give the students an empty sheet of paper and
some figures made of paper for them to create their
own landscapes.
T: Ok children now you have to draw a landscape and I will give you some shapes to
add to your work. I will also give you some glue that you need to share with your
mates ok?. It is a free activity you do it as you like it.
Homework: I will give them homework. Doing homework is new for then
therefore it is a kind of pilot activity. I will see them again after a week so I
think it might be useful to revise at home what they have done in class.
Homework is not a new activity. It is review and reinforces knowledge from
the class.
