The Story Of Julian Herbs. Most People Go Through A Trying
The Story of Julian Herbs
Most people go through a trying phase where they decide to take a harder look at their lives they are
living and get the feeling that it could be better. Such thoughts may lead one into a psychological
crisis characterized by a lot of stress and anxiety due to the dissatisfaction with one's life (Schriver,
2004). Mr. Julian Herbs, a 50–year–old, has been going through this phase where he felt dissatisfied
with his life despite the achievements he has been able to accomplish in his life. He is a married
man with a son and a daughter who has been able to achieve financial security. However, he feels
like his relationship with his children has deteriorated and has had the thought of having an affair
with a younger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Herbs is likely to be experiencing this phase because of the things that are happening in his life.
His life is surrounded by loneliness and lack of fulfillment especially because of the changes that he
recently experienced. His daughter graduated and moved to Atlanta while his son got a job in
Chicago. His separation from his children may have contributed to his concentration on his
achievements and the decisions he has made through life. He gave up his college education to be
fully committed to his family and now that they have all grown and become successful he wishes he
could have done more on his personal achievements. Additionally, the older he gets, the closer to
death he feels. His father had always talked about dreams but he dies suddenly from a heart attack.
Therefore, Julian may be feeling stressed by the fact that he is moving closer to death yet he has not
achieved all the things he wanted to achieve in life.
Erik Erickson's Stages of Psychosocial Development According to Erik Erickson, people go through
eight stages of psychosocial development from the time they are infants to their adulthood (Sokol,
2009). During each of these stages, the person may experience different psychosocial crises that
affect their personality development positively or negatively (Sokol, 2009). Mr. Herbs is currently at
the generativity vs. stagnation stage of

Primary And Secondary Circular Reactions
The second and third stage is primary and secondary circular reactions. Throughout these stages,
babies repeat entertaining actions concentrated on their own body. The primary stage usually
appears when they are between 1–4 months old (McLeod, 2010). This is when I started to
continually kick my legs a lot, and I sucked on my thumb even more. Supposedly I smiled a bunch,
and I loved looking at myself in the mirror (Personal archives, November 23, 2015). I also had my
baptism during this stage; it was exactly a month and a week after I was born. Being the cereal lover
that I am today, I learned that I had my first cereal when I was only 4 month's old. The secondary
circular reactions stage usually occurs from 4–8 months old, and I started using more objects to
keep myself entertained. My first tooth appeared when I was 6 months' old. The fourth sub stage
takes place from 8–12 months of age, the stage of co–ordinating secondary schemes. During this
stage, babies start showing signs that they can use knowledge to reach a goal (McLeod, 2010). This
was a really huge stage for me in my life. At 8 months, I was able to sit without having any support
from anyone. At 9 months old, I started to crawl, and then I took my first step at 10 months. Finally,
I started to walk on my own at 11 months. The last two sub stages, tertiary circular reactions and
symbolic thought is basically when the baby develops more knowledge. They may try putting
broken toys back together, and this is

Portrayal Of ' Attila '
Portrayal of Attila
As we know, being a leader requires being influential or being a charisma, whether its in a positive
or a negative way.
Though, scrolling through the pages of history, we sometimes see the portrayal of leading figures
that have been depicted differently in numerous descriptions. When it comes to one of the most
dreading military leaders throughout history, Attila, who unified and ruled over the the barbaric
nomadic called the Huns. Many accounts depicted such leader in different or similar horizons but
with numerous approaches and backgrounds. Prosper, a Christian reporter; Jordanes, an official in
the Roman government; a Greek writer known as Priscus; lastly Ammianus Marcilinus together a
Roman soldier and historian all depicted the leader, who would later be granted with the name
"Scourge of God", depending on their perspectives and the way they were treated.
If we look and evaluate the accounts on Attila, there are differences and similarities. However, they
are not entirely opposite; in fact, they share some definite commonalities. The most obvious
similarity that we can easily tell about the accounts is that their authors arose inside the Roman
empire. Also, they all want to focus solely on the facts about the leader not other unnecessary
information. The Roman Empire which was recognized for its civilized culture, innovations and
social organization, was the most competitive rival for the Huns, and the Empire saw Attila as a real
threat having

The Dangers Of Self Esteem
In today's society, I believe that there are many possible hazards if we focus too much on
heightening the self–esteem of children. One example is that children with very high self–esteem
could have a lack of motivation in regards to academic assignments and exams. They may not feel
the need to study or put in the work to try their best due to the fact that they have the mentality of
"I'm so smart, so I don't need to study." Another example is that high self–esteem could lead
children to losing respect towards authority. When children become too arrogant, they develop this
"know–it–all" attitude. They feel that they are better than the authority figure and there is no reason
to respect them. All in all, too much focus on heightening self–esteem can cause children to lack
high goals and expectations and influence them to disrespect authority figures. Instead, we should
focus on developing a secure self–esteem in which children feel comfortable and happy about
themselves. We should teach children the idea that not everyone is perfect and that they should
accept their flaws. When children realize that they are not perfect and can still make improvement,
they can set goals for themselves and establish determination to get better.

A caterpillar is kept captive inside a chrysalis for months or even up to two years ("Butterfly Life

This film is about a forty–three year old man, Jean–Dominique Bauby, who was the editor for Elle

publishing contract to write his book on a 19th century tale, until one day he found himself waking

Jean–Dominique suffered a severe stroke, that led him to a rare neurological condition called,

The Locus of Control Contsruct Essay
Locus of Control, originally conceptualized by Julian Rotter (1966), has been found to be critical to
numerous studies. Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the
forces that determine reinforcement. Individuals with internal orientation perceive rewards as
contingent based on personal behavior, whereas those with external orientation attribute
reinforcement received to external factors such as chance and powerful others (Levenson 1981).
This essay examines the nature and significance of this psychological construct, especially in
academic achievement and health domains. Additionally, it has been argued that high internality is
positively associated with leadership while high scores of powerful others ... Show more content on

The creator, Leveson (1972), found that participants with chance orientation shared traits which
could not be distinguished by the P or I scales. Further, the study in anti–pollution activism also
support the validity. Responses from participants demonstrated that involvement was different for
those having high scores on the P scale, compared with the Chance scale (Levenson 1974).
Therefore, the Levenson Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate.
As an important predictor of health behaviors, generally, Locus of Control construct supplies health
problems and treatments with essential insights. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring
high on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of
recovery (Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients' participation in health
treatment cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are
more likely to engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self–control
which are pivotal determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978).
Critics might argue that the correlations between Locus of Control construct and health issue are not
significant. Some researchers, however, suggest that this construct has low predictive power since it
fails to predict some aspects of health, including survival rates with regard to cancer patients,
controls of metabolic in diabetes

Analysis Of A Simple Heart
Taneka .D.G. Evelyn
ENG–212–042
Dec.12th, 2011
The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in
literature provided in–depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave
Flaubert's "A Simple Heart," he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes
(middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich
woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth–
century France.
The first sentence of "A Simple Heart" gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite.
It states "Madame Aubain's servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont–l' Évëque for half a
century"(2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader
wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman.
What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on
happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women "ladies" would bring a great deal of
doubt to the reader.
Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed
description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite
was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described "She rose at
daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was
over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the
Evelyn 2
log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her
hand"(2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing
important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with
being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was
bounded to the house.
Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end.
According to

What And How Does It Affect Your Managerial Effectiveness?
Executive Summary:
Responsibility is a part of life where humans react physically or psychologically to favorable and
unfavorable conditions. The attitude of the individual at that instant defines how he/she would react
to the challenges of daily life and repercussions of decisions made to overcome these challenges.
Such decision are results of the one's locus of control at that moment.
The types of Loci of control that affect me personally are high internal locus of control in turn
driving me to assume responsibility in all cases. This affects both positively and negatively
depending on the result.

3.1. Most people don't realize the extent to which accidental happenings control their lives.
3.2. There really is no such thing as luck.
What and How does it affect?
Research has found that an internal locus of control is not a universal solution for all management
problems. Internal locus of control is not always a positive attribute. For example, individuals with
an external locus of control have been found to be more inclined to initiate structure as leaders (to
help clarify roles). Internals are less likely to comply with leader directions and are less accurate in
processing feedback about successes and failures than are externals. Internals also have more
difficulty arriving at decisions with serious consequences for someone else (Coleman et al., 1999;
Wheeler & Davis, 1979). It is important to note that locus of control can shift over time, particularly
as a function of the position held at work, and that external locus of control does not inhibit
individuals from attaining positions of power and influence at the top of organizations. Hence, it
does not matter what your internal and/or external score, you can be a successful manager in the
right setting, or you can alter your locus of control. (Whetten & Cameron, 2016.)

Analysis Of The Book ' The Hunger Games '
In the book The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year old girl, living under a
totalitarian government that demands a boy and a girl to be sacrificed each year. The children are
sent into an arena to fight to the death. Katniss is chosen and against all odds she wins, by an act of
rebellion, along with the boy tribute from her district. During her time in the arena she helps to fan
the flames a rebellion against the government, putting herself and others in danger. However, she
ultimately overthrows it. In the television series Alias, Sydney Bristow is a graduate student who is
secretly a spy for the CIA and a double agent in a terrorist cell called SD– 6. Before joining the CIA,
Sydney worked for SD–6, under the impression it was the CIA. However, her fiance was killed by
the leader of SD–6. This is when she found out that SD–6 was actually a cell of a terrorist group
called the Alliance, not the CIA. In retaliation for killing the love of her life, Sydney joins the CIA
to sell secrets and thwart the Alliance. Eventually, Sydney destroys the entire Alliance group, SD–6
and all of the other cells.
These two women have something in common. Both are iconic tough women. The gap between the
airing of Alias and the release of The Hunger Games is relatively short. A mere three years. There is
no real time for Katniss to have evolved to the next level "tough womanhood." Especially,
considering that the book would have been written while the show aired regularly. So,

Three Characteristics: The Three Types Of Calendars
There are many types of calendar, which have many purposes. These calendars kept track of time,
months, seasons, and religious events. Some calendars are more accurate than others, they all have
different descriptions and backgrounds to them. Most of them are based on deeper family roots and
traditions. Some are so alike which is phenomenal. However, I chose three types of calendars in
which i believe are the most captivating and interesting to know, calendars such as the
Stongehendge, the Mayan calendar, the Church calendar, and the early egyptian calendar. Such as
the Mayan Calendar and the Apocalypse. Ancient calendars could be found in most parts of the
world. With every having the same or almost the same ideas about calendars. Such as the Mayan

which is extraordinary. The National Geographic knows how important and valuable these antiques
are, they are intriguing. These antique items are sometimes in poor conditions, one because the
ancestors didn't have the adequate preservation materials or the climate adequate for these objects.
As these objects are antique, scientists may take many years to understand them. The discoveries
that they make are fascinating and interesting. I think that people don't really know much about the
Mayans. if there is research on them its on books and many people don't like reading books, people
are sometimes not well informed of what is important or antique. They would rather focus on more
recent things and technologies. We still know little about the

Julian Bond Analysis
Andrew B. Lewis asserts in his book, The Shadows of Youth, that Julian Bond is one of the many
significant figures of the civil rights movement. Throughout his time being an activist he had to
overcome several hardships. Furthermore, he was involved in controversial events as an activist but
always stayed true to his very own opinions. Between the 1950's to present day, he made many
accomplishments for young blacks in society, making him both an admirable and a key figure in the
civil rights movement. With Horace Mann Bond being a professor, the Bond household was
thoroughly dedicated to academics. During high school, Bond was enrolled into George School,
which was a white boarding school perceived to have a rigorous atmosphere that gained his parents
approval. Being the only black student at school, he did his best to fit in. He wore his letterman
jacket on the weekends when he took his white girlfriend into town. With an unapologetic display of
racism the school asked him to no longer wear the jacket in public, implying that they didn't want a
black person to represent their name and create controversy with the locals. Perhaps this scenario is
what sparked Bond's curiosity with the civil rights movement. He then attended Morehouse College
in Atlanta where he was immersed with pop culture and its commitment to the African–American
teen. Bond began to express his second class status with the use of poetry. He composed a spin off
poem to Langston Hughes's

External Forces In My Hero Academia, By Izuku Midoriya
There are moments in one's life that can be attributed to external factors or internal factors, or a
mixture of both. However, people have a tendency to reason either external forces or internal forces
more than the other for outcomes. Julian Rotter called this dimension locus of control, the extent to
which people will perceive outcomes as internally controllable or externally controlled (Myers,
2013, p. 57). If a person attributes outcomes to mostly his or her own control, he or she is said to
have an internal locus of control; if a person attributes outcomes to mostly external forces, the
person is said to have an external locus of control. In the anime, My Hero Academia, the main
character, Izuku Midoriya, displays primarily the external locus of control. The main idea behind the

that all of these people already have practice and control over their quirk and are ready to put it to

Andrés Segovia is known to have brought the classical guitar from its previously low reputation.
The guitar was known for centuries as the peasants' instrument; Segovia's arrangements and
performance style made this beautiful instrument into one of artistic importance on the concert

public esteem. As a student myself, I owe my deepest gratitude to Segovia. He has left monumental

Asturias (Leyenda), one of his most famous arrangements, is a part of every developed classical
guitarist, including myself. Having listened to many recordings, very few people play it like the
arranger himself. Although it is different in the first place because it was originally composed for
piano, performers often change the tempo and include, accents and robato to give the piece a very
Romantic feel. These same restrictions can be found in another piece called Torre Bermeja by
Albeniz as well. There are similar styles in the way Segovia plays both of these pieces. I believe that
it is because of Segovia not being able to be creative and open minded to the multiple ways a piece
can be played. "Some flavor is lost here, as the impression the listener receives from m. 1–15 of
Segovia's recording is more of a mysterious impression rather than allegro, which only takes effect
on the introduction of the triplet motif. The effects of Segovia's alterations to articulation in the first
section become evident in the recording, but are inevitable. Although the notes on the guitar do not

Secular Humanism: The Question Of Identity
The Question of Origin Secular humanist believe the starting point of life is nothing breathtaking.
The Human life is a result of a great many years of advancement that can be explained through the
theory of evolution. There is no god who made life, and that religion is nothing more than the fears
of mankind. Secular humanist utilize science, intelligence, and individual feelings as the answer for
life's most troublesome questions. "In contrast to the secular humanists' belief that humans have

every living creature. Christians are certain that "God spoke everything in to existence". (Version

Question of Identity Secular humanists trust that humanity is a very developed creature, and are
continually looking for essential truth through test and perception. "To the secularist, we are nothing
more than an advanced animal." (Weider p.57) Since man was developed from creatures, we are not
above them and ought to treat all of existence with the same regard. However, opposed to the
secularist thoughts that we are yet negligible creatures, the bible lets us know that we are a unique

The Impact Of Mentoring On Counseling Programs
The Impact of Mentoring on Counselors
There are many different facets to counseling training programs. One of the most interesting parts of
this program is mentoring. This overview of mentorship will incorporate what mentorship is, the
function of the relationship during mentorship, and different roles of mentee and mentors.
Additionally to that, this overview will examine how mentorship is handle in counseling programs,
and when proper mentorship is given to mentee, it can lead further future endeavors which are
mentee becoming mentors or find success in careers. When mentoring relationships are impactful
and successful, it can create this domino or ripple effect of change not only for the student and
mentor, but it can affect his or her future performance as counselors. By applying more ideals from
mentoring into counseling programs, students get a more enriched experience and education while
working towards their goals of becoming counselors.
Looking at Mentorship
What is Mentorship? A mentor is a person whom has greater professional authority. It is a person
whom is several years old than the person that he or she is mentoring. He or she also needs to have
more experience in organization or field. This person acts as guided into the aspiring occupation.

Another factor affecting peoples perception could be their locus of control, Rotter (1954) made
distinctions between beliefs of people with an internal and an external locus of control: people who
are said to be 'internal' are thought to believe that their own actions can change the outcome of
situations, making these situations under personal control, however 'externals' are seen generally to
believe that the outcome is beyond their personal control, believing that their actions are unrelated
to the events. Therefore if someone has an internal locus of control they believe that they have a
significant say in how their lives are run, whereas a person with an external locus of control believes
that 'fate' has already decided upon the events of their lives. Niven (2000) suggests that people who
have an internal locus of control may be more highly motivated to take action concerning their
health; however they are less likely to adhere to medical advice. This may be due to the fact that
internals feel that they have a choice and say in the outcomes of their health and can decide not to
adhere when it is appropriate. For example in Susan's case when she spoke about having a bilateral
total knee replacement, she said that when the doctor had advised having

beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe that they
have a level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example, some people
have lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of external
factors.
Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and superstious
belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an internal locus of
control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an external locus of
control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This concept is associated
with the 'Learned helplessness explanation' (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier & Seligman, 1976). What
this explanation proposes is that participant's attribute the uncontrollability of a situation to internal
dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by extension, denote failure as a
result of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly, individuals who don't succumb to
the learned helplessness effect are those who place failure outside the realms of their own self. I.e.,
they present an external locus of control. This has been validated by Dudley (1999), who found that
participants with a higher level of superstition demonstrated less of

Scales of Construct for Human Behavior
Research psychologists developed scales of the construct to have a better understanding of the
human behavior. Scales such as the James' internal–external locus of control scale, Reid–Ware's
three–factor internal–external scale, multidimensional multiattributional causality scale, the
Nowicki–Duke scale(Jerry), Rotter's internal–external locus of control scale, and Levenson's IPC
Scale were widely used in research, with the latter the most commonly used measure (Halpert).
Rotter developed the internal–external, which refers to the extent to which individuals believe their
actions are controlled by their behavior, capacities, skills etc. Levenson then created a developed
scale of Rotter's. A study suggested that it would be better to use Levenson's scale over Rotter's due
to the latter's lack of performance (James r. Lumpkin).
Questions were raised concerning the validity and reliability of each scale. Sapp and Harrod argued
that Levenson's locus of control scale was reliable and valid but that other researchers should also be
conducted on other scales. They also argued that the broadness of the construct enables other studies
to keep questioning its validity (Sapp and Harrod).
Loci of control scales were applied in conducting many psychological researches in a variety of
fields such as heath, parental, academic, age–specific, cultural, ethical etc. Results of the studies
proved the importance of the construct and the scales used to measure it.

An Example Of Personal Listening
Listening is one of the most important processes in any sphere of life, such as business, education
and relationships. Listening is more than just hearing voices and noise, listening means
concentrating, giving attention to someone talking, be open minded, attending in the discussion
(Schilling, par.3), and understanding what the person is actually interpreting, using body expression
and words (Giang, par.1). These skills are required for success and a good life. They give the
solution of conflicts and difficulties, develop correctness, guarantee comprehension and create
reliable relationships (Schilling, par.1). Considering all this, it will be presented an example of
someone's listening skills by an observation and an analysis and the ways of improvement of my
personal listening skills.

I observed the negotiation from an outside angle for about half an hour at my uncle's office. During
the discussion, I absorbed if the customer was a good listener. I tried to figure out his bad and good
habits in his listening skills regarding the information I learned in class and the material I read.
During my observation, I noticed a few things which I considered as important for a successful
business and working time, such as their suitable clothes and professional standing. In the
beginning, the customer appeared as a good listener. As Dianne Schilling said, facing the person
talking, having eye contact with him and keeping an open mind are important habits for an effective
listening (par.2, 4). Most of the time, the customer faced my uncle and had eye contact with him
showing the good habits of a listener. Indeed as Vivian Giang said, knowing and following what the
other person is saying considering the verbal and nonverbal indications has a huge impact in
effective listening (par.1, 14, 15). The customer did follow my uncle while talking, but there were a
few cases he felt lost in the discussion. The reason, he felt lost, was that

Jean Arp : The Sculpture Of The Classical Sculpture
Painting, sculpture, and architecture are considered the major forms of the fine arts. They have
attracted many of the most ambitious artists. One of them being Jean Arp, the sculpture of the
"Classical Sculpture." This art piece is the Subject of the paper, and is located in the Dallas Museum
of Art. It was released to the public in 1960, and has been favorite ever sense. The piece has such a
deep meaning and so did his life.
Jean Arp is a famous sculptor, painter, and poet. He spent the early years of his life writing and
publishing poetry. After writing poetry for nearly thirty years Jean found something that sparked his
interest. This new–found passion was art. After discovering this new passion, he turned all his focus
onto his art. Jean moved to Paris to attend the academy of Julian, an art school centered on sculpture
and painting. Julian was the first of many art schools he would attend throughout his life. After
attending Julian, he began a partnership that would last a life time. Jean and Sophie became head
collaborators on their new art creations. Together they created abstract multimedia works. They
called these works Duo–collages. They later married, and remained married for 21 years. However,
a death ended their partnership. Sophie died January 13th 1943. After her death Jean decided to
dedicate his work to her. This is why most of his art works after January thirteenth are of the
abstract female nude. Including the sculpture "Classical Sculpture."

Psychoanalytical Theories That Show How Healthy Development
Christos Vagenas
Azusa Pacific University The stages of development are psychoanalytical theories that show how
healthy development in an individual should be from the age of adolescence to adult–hood as
described in the Invitation to the Life Span by Kathleen Berger (Berger, 2010). I interviewed an
eighteen–year–old female who is currently a freshman at a four–year university, the youngest in her
family. In addition, I interviewed a man in his early fifties who has two kids and a wife. This
individual owns a business that he started thirty years ago. These interviews and responses coincide
and differentiate in many ways. This portrays a contrast in their developmental stages, while
including how their faith has been a key factor in their development.

Art in the Movie Basquiat Essay
Art in the Movie Basquiat
Walter Benjamin projected the future of art in the age of mechanical reproduction, providing the
basis of aesthetic evaluation for photography, film, digital and reproducible art. In the film Basquiat,
directed by Julian Schnabel and starring Jeffrey Wright, Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper, and David
Bowie as Andy Warhol, the art world is explored in the midst of defining itself in light of the
changes brought about by the technology of the twentieth century.
Benjamin stressed the Marxist democratization of art through digital reproduction, a media which
allows for de–emphasizing the original work of art. Throughout the history of arts, particularly

Bruno tells Jean of painting, "It doesn't matter how much you worked on them. It matters how much

quitting smoking. It will address both psychological and sociological ideas and will attempt to apply
each idea in order to understand people's lifestyles.

According to the Department of Health (2003), Cancer Research UK (2010) and the Office of
National Statistics (2004), despite of the drop of statistics of smokers, there are still individuals who
would try smoking especially the young people between the ages of eleven to sixteen. In the report
of the three offices they listed the main reasons why young people smoke and these are
experimentation, to look mature or part of their image, there are older people smokes around them,
especially their parents, and peer pressures (DH, 2003) (ONS, 2004) (CR UK, 2010).
This experimentation can be attributed through social learning theory, where psychologists and
theorists Julian Rotter and Albert Bandura describe it as how we learn from others. Watching others
can provide information on which kind of behaviour leads to what consequences (Adams and
Bromley, 1998). Parents have strong influence among us. If we are surrounded by our family who
smokes, there is a strong possibility that we will imitate them. We also looked at other people such
as our peers, actors and singers. Seeing these people smoking can also lead us to emulate them and
try smoking. Once we learn to smoke, we keep smoking until it will be hard for us to stop.
Another motive in experimentation among the young people came from advertising. One example
from one Tobacco Company which says "I am no longer my mother's

Essay On Failures Of Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar, once leader of the Roman empire, is often debated about over whether his ruling was
a success or a failure. Caesar was born on July twelfth in 100 BCE (Mark, 2011, para. 1). His father,
also named Julius Caesar was a praetor, and mother, Aurelia Cotta was an aristocrat. Both felt
strongly about Roman politics, which explains how Caesar got where he did (Mark, 2011, para. 1).
At sixteen years old, Caesar's father died and, believing it was in best interest to his family, became
priest to the god, Jupiter (Mark, 2011, para. 2). This was his first step in becoming a leader. Through
a series of events such as being kidnapped by pirates then escaping and having them killed, saving a
life in battle, etc. Caesar proved himself to be smart, strong, determined, and a good speaker (Mark,
2011, para. 3–4). Believing that only a sole ruler could end the violent factions, Caesar decided to
rule as king without the title, as monarchy was prohibited (Hunt et. Al., 2013, p. 163). Although
some think he was a failure in his time as dictator, Caesar was successful because he conquered an
enormous amount of land, created the Julian calendar, and ruled his people victoriously. One of
Julius Caesar's biggest accomplishments during his reign was the tremendous amount of land he
conquered, and how he expanded the Roman empire. His biggest conquering was the acquiring of
Gaul. Realizing the wealth that could be gained from this conquest, Caesar and the legions departed

Ancient Calendars
Accepted systems for the division of time into days, months, and years, calendars reflect a human
effort to measure and order extended periods of the future. Scholars divide calendars into three
general categories–lunar, solar, and lunisolar–depending upon whether their temporal divisions are
principally based upon the movements of the moon or the sun or on a compromise between both.
Regarding Western forms of chronology, in which solar reckoning of time predominates, historians
have studied calendar reform, which encapsulates many scientific advancements and cosmological
debates of the Renaissance and Enlightenment. In their studies of other parts of the world, where ...

Building upon the work of the astronomer Christoph Clavius, whose calculations had produced a
closer approximation of the tropical year, the Gregorian Reform removed centurial leap years,
except for those divisible by 400. While the reform was rapidly accepted throughout Catholic
Europe, Protestant countries were resistant. Over time, new scientific discoveries concerning the
mechanics of the universe were brought to light, causing astronomers, regardless of religious
persuasion, to acknowledge the errors of the old system. Notably, as the work of Sir Isaac Newton in
the seventeenth century effectively annihilated the last remnants of the ancient and flawed Ptolemaic
cosmological model and presented a new vision of the universe, resistance began to erode.
Eventually the German states fell into line by 1699, in large part due to the lobbying efforts of
Newton's contemporary, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Still, the change was not accepted until 1752 in
England, where, tradition has it, the loss of 11 days in the calendar sparked protest–the so–called
British time riots–throughout the

Internal And External Locus Of Control
In the context of locus of control, internal and external locus of control are two characteristics that
influence students' success and failure. Those characteristics have been explained by some experts
and there are some comparisons which have been done related to the aspects of internal and external
locus of control. Obviously, there is no specific hypothesis related to aspects of locus of control, but
Burger (1983:76) categorizes three factors as the aspects of locus of control: perception of internal
control, perception of controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance. However,
Gihonsooly and Sihirvan (2011:240) have summarized some researches about locus of control
related on individuals behavior in some aspects such as anxiety, academic procrastination and so on
in table 5 below:
Those comparisons above represent the three aspects of locus of control; perception of internal
control, perception of LOC that is controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance, which
can be differentiated into 5 sub–aspects such as ability, responsibility, change, environment and
stress (student's stress). Those sub–aspects above will be the indicators of locus of control. ... Show

The Behavioral Theory Of Depression
Depression is a mood disorder which is categorised by low mood and a wide range of other
symptoms, which will inevitably differ depending on the individual. This mental health illness can
either progress at a fast rate or steadily. Many scientific and medicinal professionals view
depression as a defence mechanism that the body implements in order to escape from stress.
Seligman (1973) discussed depression in terms of it being like a 'common cold' of psychiatry, due to
how frequently it is diagnosed. The behaviourist approach accentuates the significance of the
environment in regards to determining an individual's behaviour. To behaviourist theorists, our
behaviour does not relate with our internal unconscious struggles or suppressions. However,
psychologists in this field use ideologies of the learning theory to explain human behaviour.
According to the behavioural theory, dysfunctional behaviour such as depression is learned and so
because of this, psychologists propose that it can also be unlearned. This perspective focuses on
behaviour which is observable and the circumstances in which a particular individual has learnt that
behaviour. As a result, depression is therefore seen by behaviourist theorists as a result of an
individual's contact with their environment.
Classical conditioning would suggest that depression is cultured through the connotation of certain
stimuli's' with undesirable emotional states. Operant conditioning believes that depression is
instigated by

Comparing The Gregorian Calendar And The Mayan Calendar
Since the beginning, people have created calendars for order and to value life. Calendars have
provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout our existence. They have
evolved from picking up more information from other ideas and ancient cultures. These include the
Egyptian calendar, the Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) and the Mayan calendar.
Historically, the creation of a calendar that provides both a satisfactory representation of time and
practical value for the ordering of life has proved a vexing problem.
Such problems began with the length of the day, the basic division of calendrical time. Technical
difficulties associated with measuring time on Earth and ignorance of the true structure of the solar

The origins of the calendar in the West can be traced to the astronomical reckoning of the ancient
Egyptians, who devised a system based upon a year of 360 days with an additional five–day
intercalation. This system was then adopted by the Romans in 45 bc to replace their flawed calendar.
Forwarded by Julius Caesar under the advisement of the astronomer Sosigenes, the Julian Reform
called for an abandonment of lunation and for reliance on a completely solar calendar. The resulting
discrepancy produced significant conflicts between calendar dates and the observable seasons over
the course of the ensuing centuries. Nevertheless, the new system proved vastly superior to its
predecessor. It was accepted throughout the Roman world, and in 325 ad made the official doctrine
of Christendom by the first Council of Nicea. The system instituted the leap year, adding one day to
the calendar every four years, but even with the leap year fix it was unsatisfactory–the Julian year
was still 11 minutes and 14 seconds longer than the tropical

Julian Of Norwich Showings Analysis
Julian of Norwich was an anchoress, who took on the life of piety for Jesus Christ. She devoted her
life to prayer, contemplation and spiritual teaching. Julian of Norwich Showings is a wonderful
fourteenth century translation that is intensely personal and spiritual. Showings, as she called them
were visions from the Lord that were full of secrets she received while she was deathly ill.
Throughout her life, there were at least three outbreaks of bubonic plague. Dr. Chris Elwood, in
class discussion, stated "the first outbreak claimed the lives of approximately forty–five percent of
the city of Norwich's population." Some believe this played a major influence on her spiritual
understanding of God and suffering and the grace that supervened. For Julian, it seems that the
mystery of God was unveiled in thoughtful review that was discovered in the Holy Spirit. Overall, it
appears that the love of God manifested itself in the human flesh of Jesus Christ and simultaneously
revealed the Trinity through his suffering, according to Julian. Dale T. Irvin and Scott W. Sunquist,

Facilitator : Therapeutic Recreation Interventions Essay
What is a facilitator? What are the primary tasks of the facilitator in Therapeutic Recreation
interventions? (10 points)
The facilitator is someone who has obtained the skills to help an individual obtain their personal
goals through helping them achieve the tasks necessary; on their own and through the skills the
client has developed. They help the client by assisting, guiding, and providing information that
further assists them on achieving their goals based on their needs. For example if helping the client
increase their range of motion in their upper extremities; the facilitator could do a demonstration,
use hand over hand, or even just give them verbal feedback to help the client improve. As a
facilitator the person has to be a special kind of person. They must be non–judgmental this meaning
they need to be open–minded and never say the individual is wrong. Also having active listening
skills such as: clarify, paraphrase, pay attention, perception checking and attending are very
important. These skills are vital for the client to know they are actually being heard and understood
correctly. The facilitator must not interject, be trusting, and use self–disclosure when needed to a
certain degree. Having one people talking at a time and not interrupting the individual will allow the
client to fully state what they need too and creating the trusting and supportive environment its helps
the client feel safe. Obtaining these skills to be a facilitator for implementing

Essay about Locus of Control and Social Behaviour
Imagine, you just recently came down with a cold and you are feeling really sick. How did you end
up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were
stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter's social learning theory, the two
different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life
events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they
have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with
external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus control
concept of internal versus external control can be used to understand ... Show more content on

Freedom of movement in this case is taken to mean "...a person's generalized expectancy that
any...related set of behaviours will lead to need satisfaction" (Crowne, 2009). Evidence suggests that
the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need values to be
multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is still considered
inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge role in determining
whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if expectation of
satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The concept of
external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for situations that
involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept involve activities
that require one to make judgments about one's own skill or aptitude in a task. If one does not
believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any difference, than
activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people with external
control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based, because the
expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than ability based
activities. Consider the

Entrepreneurial Ideas' in which she observed that most intention–based models contain at least one
of the following two dimensions: i. rationality versus intuition (Bird, 1988). On the one hand
entrepreneurs base their decisions with rational, analytic, and cause–and–effect–oriented processes.
The development of a business plan, resource acquisition, and goal directed behaviour, are examples
of rational intentions. On the other hand, intuitive, holistic, and contextual thinking influences
entrepreneurs' intentions and consecutive actions. Entrepreneurs have a vision about their venture, a
feeling that their venture will succeed. The entrepreneurs' vision is often based on this intuitive
thinking. ii. Dimension of location– The internal locus is the entrepreneurs' intention and the
external locus can be the market environment, governmental regulations, etc. Successful

that he wrote it for Lennon's son, Julian, about when Lennon left his son and wife for Yoko Ono. To
many kids, this could be a traumatic experience; Julian was not an exception to this. Having a

Position Statement Of Julian Rotter's View On Social Behavior
Evaluation: Position Statement
Learning is a social process that we gather through interaction with others in our everyday life. As
human, we develop different learning mechanism that helps shape our personalities from our
environment, imitation, and behavior. Personality psychology has been able to attempt and continue
to explain the complex organism of a person's behavior that guide ones direction and pattern of a
person's life.
Evaluation: Validity and Accuracy
Over a period of time, human beings have developed different skills to help organize a different
event that has occurred in their life to help contribute to their achievements based on his or her

The Story Of Julian Herbs. Most People Go Through A Trying

  • 1. The Story Of Julian Herbs. Most People Go Through A Trying The Story of Julian Herbs Most people go through a trying phase where they decide to take a harder look at their lives they are living and get the feeling that it could be better. Such thoughts may lead one into a psychological crisis characterized by a lot of stress and anxiety due to the dissatisfaction with one's life (Schriver, 2004). Mr. Julian Herbs, a 50–year–old, has been going through this phase where he felt dissatisfied with his life despite the achievements he has been able to accomplish in his life. He is a married man with a son and a daughter who has been able to achieve financial security. However, he feels like his relationship with his children has deteriorated and has had the thought of having an affair with a younger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Herbs is likely to be experiencing this phase because of the things that are happening in his life. His life is surrounded by loneliness and lack of fulfillment especially because of the changes that he recently experienced. His daughter graduated and moved to Atlanta while his son got a job in Chicago. His separation from his children may have contributed to his concentration on his achievements and the decisions he has made through life. He gave up his college education to be fully committed to his family and now that they have all grown and become successful he wishes he could have done more on his personal achievements. Additionally, the older he gets, the closer to death he feels. His father had always talked about dreams but he dies suddenly from a heart attack. Therefore, Julian may be feeling stressed by the fact that he is moving closer to death yet he has not achieved all the things he wanted to achieve in life. Erik Erickson's Stages of Psychosocial Development According to Erik Erickson, people go through eight stages of psychosocial development from the time they are infants to their adulthood (Sokol, 2009). During each of these stages, the person may experience different psychosocial crises that affect their personality development positively or negatively (Sokol, 2009). Mr. Herbs is currently at the generativity vs. stagnation stage of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Primary And Secondary Circular Reactions The second and third stage is primary and secondary circular reactions. Throughout these stages, babies repeat entertaining actions concentrated on their own body. The primary stage usually appears when they are between 1–4 months old (McLeod, 2010). This is when I started to continually kick my legs a lot, and I sucked on my thumb even more. Supposedly I smiled a bunch, and I loved looking at myself in the mirror (Personal archives, November 23, 2015). I also had my baptism during this stage; it was exactly a month and a week after I was born. Being the cereal lover that I am today, I learned that I had my first cereal when I was only 4 month's old. The secondary circular reactions stage usually occurs from 4–8 months old, and I started using more objects to keep myself entertained. My first tooth appeared when I was 6 months' old. The fourth sub stage takes place from 8–12 months of age, the stage of co–ordinating secondary schemes. During this stage, babies start showing signs that they can use knowledge to reach a goal (McLeod, 2010). This was a really huge stage for me in my life. At 8 months, I was able to sit without having any support from anyone. At 9 months old, I started to crawl, and then I took my first step at 10 months. Finally, I started to walk on my own at 11 months. The last two sub stages, tertiary circular reactions and symbolic thought is basically when the baby develops more knowledge. They may try putting broken toys back together, and this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Portrayal Of ' Attila ' Portrayal of Attila As we know, being a leader requires being influential or being a charisma, whether its in a positive or a negative way. Though, scrolling through the pages of history, we sometimes see the portrayal of leading figures that have been depicted differently in numerous descriptions. When it comes to one of the most dreading military leaders throughout history, Attila, who unified and ruled over the the barbaric nomadic called the Huns. Many accounts depicted such leader in different or similar horizons but with numerous approaches and backgrounds. Prosper, a Christian reporter; Jordanes, an official in the Roman government; a Greek writer known as Priscus; lastly Ammianus Marcilinus together a Roman soldier and historian all depicted the leader, who would later be granted with the name "Scourge of God", depending on their perspectives and the way they were treated. If we look and evaluate the accounts on Attila, there are differences and similarities. However, they are not entirely opposite; in fact, they share some definite commonalities. The most obvious similarity that we can easily tell about the accounts is that their authors arose inside the Roman empire. Also, they all want to focus solely on the facts about the leader not other unnecessary information. The Roman Empire which was recognized for its civilized culture, innovations and social organization, was the most competitive rival for the Huns, and the Empire saw Attila as a real threat having ... • 4. The Dangers Of Self Esteem In today's society, I believe that there are many possible hazards if we focus too much on heightening the self–esteem of children. One example is that children with very high self–esteem could have a lack of motivation in regards to academic assignments and exams. They may not feel the need to study or put in the work to try their best due to the fact that they have the mentality of "I'm so smart, so I don't need to study." Another example is that high self–esteem could lead children to losing respect towards authority. When children become too arrogant, they develop this "know–it–all" attitude. They feel that they are better than the authority figure and there is no reason to respect them. All in all, too much focus on heightening self–esteem can cause children to lack high goals and expectations and influence them to disrespect authority figures. Instead, we should focus on developing a secure self–esteem in which children feel comfortable and happy about themselves. We should teach children the idea that not everyone is perfect and that they should accept their flaws. When children realize that they are not perfect and can still make improvement, they can set goals for themselves and establish determination to get better. 4. When making an important hiring decision for a business, understanding Rotter's concept of locus of control can be helpful when evaluating the candidate and what is his or her contribution to the team. • 5. The Diving Bell And The Butterfly A caterpillar is kept captive inside a chrysalis for months or even up to two years ("Butterfly Life Cycle"). The 2007 French film, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was directed by Julian Schnabel. This film is about a forty–three year old man, Jean–Dominique Bauby, who was the editor for Elle Magazine. He was valuable to the fashion world. He has reached the top of his career and had a publishing contract to write his book on a 19th century tale, until one day he found himself waking up on a hospital bed in Berck–Su–Mer Hospital ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Synopsis"). Jean–Dominique suffered a severe stroke, that led him to a rare neurological condition called, "locked–in syndrome," (Glenn 50). This is where all the voluntary muscles are non existent (paralyzed), except for the eyes, in this case only his right eye (Glenn 50). By analyzing the cinematography and music we can appreciate Bauby's perspective in life, which allows us to have a distinct connection to his emotional and physical condition. A title is one of the many main focal points that draw an audience's attention. With a title one can surmise if a movie is a horror movie or a romantic movie. For example, "The Exorcist" sets off a creepy vibe because of the word "exorcist." When one looks at the movie title, "P.S. I Love You" one can suggest that this movie is a romantic movie because of they are words one may choose to express to a significant other. However, a title may also contain a symbolic ... • 6. The Locus of Control Contsruct Essay Locus of Control, originally conceptualized by Julian Rotter (1966), has been found to be critical to numerous studies. Within psychology, it is considered to be a generalized expectancy regarding the forces that determine reinforcement. Individuals with internal orientation perceive rewards as contingent based on personal behavior, whereas those with external orientation attribute reinforcement received to external factors such as chance and powerful others (Levenson 1981). This essay examines the nature and significance of this psychological construct, especially in academic achievement and health domains. Additionally, it has been argued that high internality is positively associated with leadership while high scores of powerful others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creator, Leveson (1972), found that participants with chance orientation shared traits which could not be distinguished by the P or I scales. Further, the study in anti–pollution activism also support the validity. Responses from participants demonstrated that involvement was different for those having high scores on the P scale, compared with the Chance scale (Levenson 1974). Therefore, the Levenson Scale is more sufficiently reliable and appropriate. As an important predictor of health behaviors, generally, Locus of Control construct supplies health problems and treatments with essential insights. There is evidence to suggest that patients scoring high on the I scale might be better suited to ameliorative and preventive treatment for the sake of recovery (Strickland 1974 cited in Levenson 1981). Additionally, patients' participation in health treatment cannot be emphasized more. Individuals that view themselves as masters of destiny are more likely to engage in better adjustment since they have positive expectations and self–control which are pivotal determinants with regard to health outcomes (Wallston and Wallston 1978). Critics might argue that the correlations between Locus of Control construct and health issue are not significant. Some researchers, however, suggest that this construct has low predictive power since it fails to predict some aspects of health, including survival rates with regard to cancer patients, controls of metabolic in diabetes ... • 8. Analysis Of A Simple Heart Taneka .D.G. Evelyn ENG–212–042 Dec.12th, 2011 The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in–depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert's "A Simple Heart," he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth– century France. The first sentence of "A Simple Heart" gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states "Madame Aubain's servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont–l' Évëque for half a century"(2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women "ladies" would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader. Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described "She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the Evelyn 2 log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her hand"(2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house.

For example, individuals with an external locus of control have been found to be more inclined to initiate structure as leaders (to help clarify roles). Internals are less likely to comply with leader directions and are less accurate in processing feedback about successes and failures than are externals. Internals also have more difficulty arriving at decisions with serious consequences for someone else (Coleman et al., 1999; Wheeler & Davis, 1979). It is important to note that locus of control can shift over time, particularly as a function of the position held at work, and that external locus of control does not inhibit individuals from attaining positions of power and influence at the top of organizations. Hence, it does not matter what your internal and/or external score, you can be a successful manager in the right setting, or you can alter your locus of control. (Whetten & Cameron, 2016.) The Locus of Control Scale in the Skill Assessment section helps you generate a score showing the extent to which you have an internal or external locus of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During her time in the arena she helps to fan the flames a rebellion against the government, putting herself and others in danger. However, she ultimately overthrows it. In the television series Alias, Sydney Bristow is a graduate student who is secretly a spy for the CIA and a double agent in a terrorist cell called SD– 6. Before joining the CIA, Sydney worked for SD–6, under the impression it was the CIA. However, her fiance was killed by the leader of SD–6. This is when she found out that SD–6 was actually a cell of a terrorist group called the Alliance, not the CIA. In retaliation for killing the love of her life, Sydney joins the CIA to sell secrets and thwart the Alliance. Eventually, Sydney destroys the entire Alliance group, SD–6 and all of the other cells. These two women have something in common. Both are iconic tough women. The gap between the airing of Alias and the release of The Hunger Games is relatively short. A mere three years. There is no real time for Katniss to have evolved to the next level "tough womanhood." Especially, considering that the book would have been written while the show aired regularly. So, ... • 13. Julian Bond Analysis Andrew B. Lewis asserts in his book, The Shadows of Youth, that Julian Bond is one of the many significant figures of the civil rights movement. Throughout his time being an activist he had to overcome several hardships. Furthermore, he was involved in controversial events as an activist but always stayed true to his very own opinions. Between the 1950's to present day, he made many accomplishments for young blacks in society, making him both an admirable and a key figure in the civil rights movement. With Horace Mann Bond being a professor, the Bond household was thoroughly dedicated to academics. During high school, Bond was enrolled into George School, which was a white boarding school perceived to have a rigorous atmosphere that gained his parents approval. Being the only black student at school, he did his best to fit in. He wore his letterman jacket on the weekends when he took his white girlfriend into town. With an unapologetic display of racism the school asked him to no longer wear the jacket in public, implying that they didn't want a black person to represent their name and create controversy with the locals. Perhaps this scenario is what sparked Bond's curiosity with the civil rights movement. He then attended Morehouse College in Atlanta where he was immersed with pop culture and its commitment to the African–American teen. However, people have a tendency to reason either external forces or internal forces more than the other for outcomes. Julian Rotter called this dimension locus of control, the extent to which people will perceive outcomes as internally controllable or externally controlled (Myers, 2013, p. 57). If a person attributes outcomes to mostly his or her own control, he or she is said to have an internal locus of control; if a person attributes outcomes to mostly external forces, the person is said to have an external locus of control. These same restrictions can be found in another piece called Torre Bermeja by Albeniz as well. There are similar styles in the way Segovia plays both of these pieces. I believe that it is because of Segovia not being able to be creative and open minded to the multiple ways a piece can be played. "Some flavor is lost here, as the impression the listener receives from m. 1–15 of Segovia's recording is more of a mysterious impression rather than allegro, which only takes effect on the introduction of the triplet motif. Secular humanist utilize science, intelligence, and individual feelings as the answer for life's most troublesome questions. Another factor affecting peoples perception could be their locus of control, Rotter (1954) made distinctions between beliefs of people with an internal and an external locus of control: people who are said to be 'internal' are thought to believe that their own actions can change the outcome of situations, making these situations under personal control, however 'externals' are seen generally to believe that the outcome is beyond their personal control, believing that their actions are unrelated to the events. Therefore if someone has an internal locus of control they believe that they have a significant say in how their lives are run, whereas a person with an external locus of control believes that 'fate' has already decided upon the events of their lives. Niven (2000) suggests that people who have an internal locus of control may be more highly motivated to take action concerning their health; however they are less likely to adhere to medical advice. This may be due to the fact that internals feel that they have a choice and say in the outcomes of their health and can decide not to adhere when it is appropriate. For example in Susan's case when she spoke about having a bilateral total knee replacement, she said that when the doctor had advised having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Investigating the Relationship Between Superstious Belief... In times of uncontrollability, there is evidence to suggest that individuals tend to invoke superstious beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe that they have a level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example, some people have lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of external factors. Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and superstious belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an internal locus of control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an external locus of control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This concept is associated with the 'Learned helplessness explanation' (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier & Seligman, 1976). What this explanation proposes is that participant's attribute the uncontrollability of a situation to internal dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by extension, denote failure as a result of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly, individuals who don't succumb to the learned helplessness effect are those who place failure outside the realms of their own self. I.e., they present an external locus of control. This has been validated by Dudley (1999), who found that participants with a higher level of superstition demonstrated less of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Scales of Construct for Human Behavior Research psychologists developed scales of the construct to have a better understanding of the human behavior. Scales such as the James' internal–external locus of control scale, Reid–Ware's three–factor internal–external scale, multidimensional multiattributional causality scale, the Nowicki–Duke scale(Jerry), Rotter's internal–external locus of control scale, and Levenson's IPC Scale were widely used in research, with the latter the most commonly used measure (Halpert). Rotter developed the internal–external, which refers to the extent to which individuals believe their actions are controlled by their behavior, capacities, skills etc. Levenson then created a developed scale of Rotter's. A study suggested that it would be better to use Levenson's scale over Rotter's due to the latter's lack of performance (James r. Lumpkin). Questions were raised concerning the validity and reliability of each scale. Sapp and Harrod argued that Levenson's locus of control scale was reliable and valid but that other researchers should also be conducted on other scales. They also argued that the broadness of the construct enables other studies to keep questioning its validity (Sapp and Harrod). Loci of control scales were applied in conducting many psychological researches in a variety of fields such as heath, parental, academic, age–specific, cultural, ethical etc. Results of the studies proved the importance of the construct and the scales used to measure it. If we are surrounded by our family who smokes, there is a strong possibility that we will imitate them. We also looked at other people such as our peers, actors and singers. Seeing these people smoking can also lead us to emulate them and try smoking. Once we learn to smoke, we keep smoking until it will be hard for us to stop. Caesar was born on July twelfth in 100 BCE (Mark, 2011, para. 1). His father, also named Julius Caesar was a praetor, and mother, Aurelia Cotta was an aristocrat. Both felt strongly about Roman politics, which explains how Caesar got where he did (Mark, 2011, para. 1). At sixteen years old, Caesar's father died and, believing it was in best interest to his family, became priest to the god, Jupiter (Mark, 2011, para. 2). This was his first step in becoming a leader. Through a series of events such as being kidnapped by pirates then escaping and having them killed, saving a life in battle, etc. Caesar proved himself to be smart, strong, determined, and a good speaker (Mark, 2011, para. 3–4). Believing that only a sole ruler could end the violent factions, Caesar decided to rule as king without the title, as monarchy was prohibited (Hunt et. Al., 2013, p. 163). Although some think he was a failure in his time as dictator, Caesar was successful because he conquered an enormous amount of land, created the Julian calendar, and ruled his people victoriously. Regarding Western forms of chronology, in which solar reckoning of time predominates, historians have studied calendar reform, which encapsulates many scientific advancements and cosmological debates of the Renaissance and Enlightenment. In their studies of other parts of the world, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Building upon the work of the astronomer Christoph Clavius, whose calculations had produced a closer approximation of the tropical year, the Gregorian Reform removed centurial leap years, except for those divisible by 400. While the reform was rapidly accepted throughout Catholic Europe, Protestant countries were resistant. Over time, new scientific discoveries concerning the mechanics of the universe were brought to light, causing astronomers, regardless of religious persuasion, to acknowledge the errors of the old system. Notably, as the work of Sir Isaac Newton in the seventeenth century effectively annihilated the last remnants of the ancient and flawed Ptolemaic cosmological model and presented a new vision of the universe, resistance began to erode. Eventually the German states fell into line by 1699, in large part due to the lobbying efforts of Newton's contemporary, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Still, the change was not accepted until 1752 in England, where, tradition has it, the loss of 11 days in the calendar sparked protest–the so–called British time riots–throughout the ... • 32. Internal And External Locus Of Control In the context of locus of control, internal and external locus of control are two characteristics that influence students' success and failure. Those characteristics have been explained by some experts and there are some comparisons which have been done related to the aspects of internal and external locus of control. Obviously, there is no specific hypothesis related to aspects of locus of control, but Burger (1983:76) categorizes three factors as the aspects of locus of control: perception of internal control, perception of controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance. However, Gihonsooly and Sihirvan (2011:240) have summarized some researches about locus of control related on individuals behavior in some aspects such as anxiety, academic procrastination and so on in table 5 below: Those comparisons above represent the three aspects of locus of control; perception of internal control, perception of LOC that is controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance, which can be differentiated into 5 sub–aspects such as ability, responsibility, change, environment and stress (student's stress). Those sub–aspects above will be the indicators of locus of control. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 33. Personal Narrative: An Interview With Mr. Baldwin Introduction The following paper is an interview I conducted of a 97–year–old Caucasian male whose name will be changed to Mr. Baldwin in order to maintain confidentiality. Mr. Baldwin has never been married and has no children and is a very proud lifelong native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I asked Mr. Baldwin about his home and he informed me he has owned his single family home as long as his old brain will let him but that he is worried that he is close to possibly having to go into a nursing home because of his health problems. Mr. Baldwin used a lot of humor when talking and I could tell he has accepted that he is coming to the end of his life cycle. When I asked about his Truck which is a newer model he replied with "I figured I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Baldwin spoke about this time in his life as the most impactful time in his life, On June 6th, 1944 Mr. Baldwin was part of the invasion on Normandy where he parachuted into Nazi occupied France. He spoke in great detail about the events that took place during his service in the war. He faced many highs and lows during this time where he said he recalls only three of the men that he went to basic training with survived the drop into France. The other men he jumped with never had a chance to put their feet on the ground. Mr. Baldwin spoke with strong conviction when talking about what he went through while serving overseas. During a night raid Mr. Baldwin to take a small town that was along a supply route an enemy tank spotted his squad and fired a shell that struck close enough that it rendered him unconscious and caused him to be riddled with shrapnel. After his injury Mr. Baldwin spent close to months recovering from his wounds which resulted in him being medically discharged from the Army and sent home. He described the feeling as one of disappointment. He stated that he had dreams of spending 20 years in the service and traveling the world once the war was over. The discharge left a void in his life that he thought could never be filled. Upon his return home he said he struggled with drinking and felt he gave up on his friends and there was nothing to stop him from drinking and partaking in destructive behaviors. • 34. The Behavioral Theory Of Depression Depression is a mood disorder which is categorised by low mood and a wide range of other symptoms, which will inevitably differ depending on the individual. This mental health illness can either progress at a fast rate or steadily. Many scientific and medicinal professionals view depression as a defence mechanism that the body implements in order to escape from stress. Seligman (1973) discussed depression in terms of it being like a 'common cold' of psychiatry, due to how frequently it is diagnosed. The behaviourist approach accentuates the significance of the environment in regards to determining an individual's behaviour. To behaviourist theorists, our behaviour does not relate with our internal unconscious struggles or suppressions. However, psychologists in this field use ideologies of the learning theory to explain human behaviour. According to the behavioural theory, dysfunctional behaviour such as depression is learned and so because of this, psychologists propose that it can also be unlearned. This perspective focuses on behaviour which is observable and the circumstances in which a particular individual has learnt that behaviour. As a result, depression is therefore seen by behaviourist theorists as a result of an individual's contact with their environment. Classical conditioning would suggest that depression is cultured through the connotation of certain stimuli's' with undesirable emotional states. Operant conditioning believes that depression is instigated by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Comparing The Gregorian Calendar And The Mayan Calendar Since the beginning, people have created calendars for order and to value life. Calendars have provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout our existence. They have evolved from picking up more information from other ideas and ancient cultures. These include the Egyptian calendar, the Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) and the Mayan calendar. Historically, the creation of a calendar that provides both a satisfactory representation of time and practical value for the ordering of life has proved a vexing problem. Such problems began with the length of the day, the basic division of calendrical time. Technical difficulties associated with measuring time on Earth and ignorance of the true structure of the solar system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The origins of the calendar in the West can be traced to the astronomical reckoning of the ancient Egyptians, who devised a system based upon a year of 360 days with an additional five–day intercalation. This system was then adopted by the Romans in 45 bc to replace their flawed calendar. Forwarded by Julius Caesar under the advisement of the astronomer Sosigenes, the Julian Reform called for an abandonment of lunation and for reliance on a completely solar calendar. The resulting discrepancy produced significant conflicts between calendar dates and the observable seasons over the course of the ensuing centuries. Nevertheless, the new system proved vastly superior to its predecessor. It was accepted throughout the Roman world, and in 325 ad made the official doctrine of Christendom by the first Council of Nicea. The system instituted the leap year, adding one day to the calendar every four years, but even with the leap year fix it was unsatisfactory–the Julian year was still 11 minutes and 14 seconds longer than the tropical ... • 36. Julian Of Norwich Showings Analysis Julian of Norwich was an anchoress, who took on the life of piety for Jesus Christ. She devoted her life to prayer, contemplation and spiritual teaching. Julian of Norwich Showings is a wonderful fourteenth century translation that is intensely personal and spiritual. Showings, as she called them were visions from the Lord that were full of secrets she received while she was deathly ill. Throughout her life, there were at least three outbreaks of bubonic plague. Dr. Chris Elwood, in class discussion, stated "the first outbreak claimed the lives of approximately forty–five percent of the city of Norwich's population." Some believe this played a major influence on her spiritual understanding of God and suffering and the grace that supervened. For Julian, it seems that the mystery of God was unveiled in thoughtful review that was discovered in the Holy Spirit. Overall, it appears that the love of God manifested itself in the human flesh of Jesus Christ and simultaneously revealed the Trinity through his suffering, according to Julian. Dale T. • 37. Facilitator : Therapeutic Recreation Interventions Essay What is a facilitator? What are the primary tasks of the facilitator in Therapeutic Recreation interventions? (10 points) The facilitator is someone who has obtained the skills to help an individual obtain their personal goals through helping them achieve the tasks necessary; on their own and through the skills the client has developed. They help the client by assisting, guiding, and providing information that further assists them on achieving their goals based on their needs. For example if helping the client increase their range of motion in their upper extremities; the facilitator could do a demonstration, use hand over hand, or even just give them verbal feedback to help the client improve. As a facilitator the person has to be a special kind of person. They must be non–judgmental this meaning they need to be open–minded and never say the individual is wrong. Also having active listening skills such as: clarify, paraphrase, pay attention, perception checking and attending are very important. These skills are vital for the client to know they are actually being heard and understood correctly. The facilitator must not interject, be trusting, and use self–disclosure when needed to a certain degree. Having one people talking at a time and not interrupting the individual will allow the client to fully state what they need too and creating the trusting and supportive environment its helps the client feel safe. • 38. Essay about Locus of Control and Social Behaviour Imagine, you just recently came down with a cold and you are feeling really sick. How did you end up getting sick in the first place, was it just due to random chance, or was it because you were stressed and not watching your health? According to Julian Rotter's social learning theory, the two different mentalities people have about how much influence they themselves have on their life events can be categorized into two different groups. Those with internal control believe that they have control over their own behaviour and the subsequent outcomes. Conversely, those with external control more often tend to believe that outcomes are beyond their control. The locus control concept of internal versus external control can be used to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freedom of movement in this case is taken to mean "...a person's generalized expectancy that any...related set of behaviours will lead to need satisfaction" (Crowne, 2009). Evidence suggests that the relationship between expectancy (freedom of movement) and reinforcement or need values to be multiplicative, but an ampersand is used instead because data on the relationship is still considered inconclusive (Crowne, 2009). Note that in both cases, expectation plays a huge role in determining whether behaviour occurs. Regardless of how big a need or reinforcement, if expectation of satisfaction in a given situation is zero or low, behaviour is unlikely to happen. The concept of external and internal control can be thought of as having low or high expectations for situations that involves personal commitment or action. The primary concerns of this concept involve activities that require one to make judgments about one's own skill or aptitude in a task. If one does not believe that they are skilled, and that any choices they make will make any difference, than activities that are mostly skill based are highly unlikely to occur. Instead, people with external control will be inclined to participate in activities that are more heavily luck based, because the expectancy for reinforcement (rewards) or a need fulfillment tend to be higher than ability based activities. In 1988, Bird (1988) developed a model of 'Implementing Entrepreneurial Ideas' in which she observed that most intention–based models contain at least one of the following two dimensions: i. rationality versus intuition (Bird, 1988). On the one hand entrepreneurs base their decisions with rational, analytic, and cause–and–effect–oriented processes. The development of a business plan, resource acquisition, and goal directed behaviour, are examples of rational intentions. On the other hand, intuitive, holistic, and contextual thinking influences entrepreneurs' intentions and consecutive actions. Entrepreneurs have a vision about their venture, a feeling that their venture will succeed. The entrepreneurs' vision is often based on this intuitive thinking. ii. Dimension of location– The internal locus is the entrepreneurs' intention and the external locus can be the market environment, governmental regulations, etc. Successful entrepreneurs distinguish themselves from less successful ones by the interaction of their internal and external ... The main meaning behind "Hey Jude" has never been released, but everyone has their own ideas of why McCartney wrote it. One interpretation and the reasoning McCartney claims is that he wrote it for Lennon's son, Julian, about when Lennon left his son and wife for Yoko Ono. To many kids, this could be a traumatic experience; Julian was not an exception to this. Having a person's dad's best friend trying to comfort them and tell them that everything is fine makes any situation a little easier.
